Parking is pretty bad around the area but there is a small lot that I got princess parking for so that was awesome. Mostly street parking. Line was pretty long getting there at 6pm but I feel like it moved pretty fast! I would recommend if you're with someone else they go find a seat while you order. Food: - TRI TIP WAS THE BEST - WAGYU melt in your mouth you HAVE to try this. 10/10 - Ribs - I loved the bark on them. However, maybe it was not as tender and some seemed a little dry but some were tender. 3/5 - Beef Cheek - 1/5 - I wanted to like it but it just felt like it had a weird aftertaste. It was VERY tender though. - Pork Belly Burnt Ends - These were delicious and super tender. Make sure to eat it while it's hot! 5/5 - Pickles - I loved the pickles they gave us. This place is such a small hidden gem and if you ain't local you won't hear about it. Very cute and roomy place the bbq is a bit different, but it's amazing. The service is self checkout but they will bring it the made to order foods. The menu is simple but yet effective. Got the family platter that feeds 4-6 people, pork belly burnt ends, and Mac and cheese. The family platter consist of beef cheek, brisket, ribs. smoke chicken, pulled pork, sausages, 6 sides, cornbread and rolls. Each meat tasted delicious and the beef cheek stole the show for me. Super tender and it just falls apart and has so much flavor. Not a fan of the chicken, it was a bit dry. All the meats were perfect. 5/5. This place has such a very welcoming and modern look to the restaurant. Plenty of tables inside, there is an outdoor and indoor section. First come first serve on tables. Everything is pretty much self serve. Came here Friday evening, their parking parking lot is small, so you will have to be prepared for street parking. You order first then grab any available table. The staff is very nice and the food was worth the long wait. My family and I waited about 25 minutes to order so it wasn't too bad and the crowd kept coming. We ordered the platter that feeds 4-6 people which came with chicken, pulled pork, sausages, brisket, beef cheek, and the six sides. Since it was our first time and we didn't really know what to order. For extras we ended up getting the Mac and Cheese, along with the Pork Belly Burnt Ends. Honestly, the flavoring was pretty good and moist. I wasn't a fan of the chicken though it was dry to me. Excellent BBQ that was legit and the real deal! I had the chicken which was actually a half since I love both white and dark meat. It was excellent and the bbq sauce was delicious too! I also tried the pork belly burnt ends and they were fabulous! The sauce was so amazing and the order was perfect for sharing. I would absolutely recommend this dish and can't wait to try it again. Super tender, juicy, and packed with rich flavor without being overly heavy. You can really taste the quality of the meat. The turkey sandwich was also impressive -- smoky, moist (not dry at all), and really well balanced. We shared a half pound of tri-tip and half pound of pulled pork, both cooked perfectly. The tri-tip was sliced thick and flavorful, and the pulled pork was juicy. We also got the cheddar jalapeño sausage which was the perfect balance of smokey and spicy. The mac & cheese was creamy, comforting, and exactly what you want as a BBQ side. Sauce-wise, the Honey Bear and Cali Gold were our favorites -- both added the perfect extra layer of flavor without overpowering the meat. The space itself is trendy and welcoming, with great covered outdoor seating that makes it perfect for groups. The employees were genuinely friendly and helpful, which made the experience even better. For the quality of meat and portion sizes, the price point felt more than fair. Decided that it was finally time to try Harper for their 1 year anniversary where ribs were $1 each and happy hour was all day. We didn't get to try the happy hour menu, but everything sounded so good. Our favorite meat cut was the beef cheek, super tender and a smokey rub. My favorite side was the cornbread, literally so moist and flavorful. Today was their one year anniversary. Happy hour was all day and you could get pork ribs for a buck each limit five. I got my five ribs, some beef cheek, fried pickles, and the bratwurst sandwich. Like my last review, the ribs had a bit of a tug. They need more time on the smoker. The beef cheek melted in my mouth. I love bratwurst, and theirs was really good. The beef cheek ($19/half pound) was definitely fatty, but the flavor was a bit too strong, maybe too umami. My favorite meat item was the wagyu tri tip, it was good quality, definitely fat marbled. Came back again, this time with my wife, trying to keep things a bit healthier with the holidays right around the corner. I ordered the wedge salad, and she went with the farro bowl with steak plus the jalapeño cornbread roll. The wedge salad was good, but noticeably smaller than last time (see photos). The farro bowl was just okay--missing that "wow" factor or any real pop of flavor. The cornbread is still solid, but no honey butter this time... which feels like a small but important miss. Park on the street or in the small lot. Meats: I've been a few times with friends and family. We've ordered the ribs (fan favorite), pulled pork (yum), tri-tip (yum), beef cheek, chicken, and sausage. Sides: definitely get the Mac and cheese! The beans and potato salad are also good, they are just vinegar based so if you're not into that then it might not be for you. We also tried the banana bread pudding and it was delicious! Wow, I highly recommend getting beef cheeks and ribs. Those two were the absolute best imo. My friends think the Picahana is the best though. I think its good but I definitely liked the beef cheeks better. You can try all three and see what you like best! The beef cheeks were so tender they literally fell apart when we tried to stab a fork into it. So yummy! The ribs fall right off the bone when you bite into them, amazing! We got a platter for 4-6 people. None of us really touched the pulled pork, it wasn't that good. The sausage is sausage, nothing to say about it. The chicken was just good. I would avoid the tri tip. It was very tough for me, maybe I got a bad cut? I let all my friends try the tip ;) and they also didn't like it. I personally was not a fan of any of their sides except the mac n cheese which was pretty good while the cornbread was hella amazing. So fucking addicting and good! (The cornbread has cheese in it for you lactose intolerant people). The sides we got: 2x salad (the whole thing is brussel sprouts no lettuce..), chili (good as far as chili goes, but I don't like chili), coleslaw (same feeling as I have towards chili), rice salad, and I guess another chili? One had cheese on top and the other didn't. I didn't choose the sides so no idea what that is. We also got their pitcher of Oktoberfest beer and it was good! I enjoyed it. They do have a lot of outdoor and indoor seating, which is is nice. The BBQ was pretty good i would have to say the pork rib rub is a little sweet but i did find it didn't really need Bbq sauce to taste good which in my opinion is great! Only downside here is the ordering. You order in a chipotle style manner, each station takes a little while depending on what you order so the line gets backed up. One orders at the front and my group selected several items to share. We ordered about 1/2 lb. of several meats each. Beef Cheeks ($36 a lb.) - This was the best thing I ate here. The beef cheeks were falling apart and so flavorful and smoky. Tri Tip ($36 a lb) - This was probably the biggest let down of any of the meats here. It didn't have much in the way of BBQ flavor and was a little tough and chewy. Picanha ($36 a lb) - While the picanha was tender, juicy, it didn't have much in the way of BBQ flavor. Jidori half chicken ($9) - This was one of my favorite meats here. It was super tender and had great BBQ flavor. Potato salad ($6 - small) - This consisted of potatoes, mustard, brown butter and capers and had a strong tangy taste to it. It was definitely different then a traditional potato salad. Farro salad ($6 - small) - This consisted of farro (similar to quinoa), chopped pistachio nuts, dates, and Moroccan spices. All of this provided for an extremely unique and well executed side. Overall I found the sides to be unique here compared to other BBQ spots. Pricing is on the higher side here. The beef cheeks were impressive and I really liked the chicken. Amazing new BBQ spot that I'll *definitely* be returning to. Came in on Sunday at around noon and my party beat the crowd. As we were eating, we saw that the line was out the door but moved quick due to the super efficient layout and Chipotle-style ordering line. We ordered a 4-6 person platter, which came with ribs, brisket, chicken, sausage, cornbread, rolls, and 6 sides -- we decided on 2 potato salad, brussels sprout caesar salad, slaw, chili, and beans. Starting with a recap of the meats, every cut was tender. The ribs, quite literally, fell off the bone as I prodded at it with my fork. Brisket was moist. Brisket isn't my favorite choice when getting BBQ, generally speaking, so this was solid but not my favorite. Chicken was also tender and well seasoned, even for being breast meat. The sausage was one of our favorites -- flavorful with a great snap on the casing. Sides were also good compliments to the dish. Potato salad was heavy on the dill flavor, which I enjoyed but some others weren't as keen on. Cornbread was moist with whole kernels of corn sprinkled throughout. Because my family are rather robust eaters, to say the least, we ordered 2 more cuts of meat on the side (lol) -- the picanha and the burnt ends. The picanha was stellar. It had a nice bark with lots of whole peppercorns and seasonings. Super tender and delicious. The burnt ends were on another level. This was the unaninous favorite. Usually, I'm wary about burnt ends at BBQ. They can be try and bland sometimes, but the burnt ends here were melt in your mouth, tender, and sweet and savory with a hint of crunch from the scallion garnish on top. Actually unreal. Wow what a phenominal find for BBQ. My boyfriend found this place through instagram and it was such a fantastic, newly opened and one-of-a-kind restaurant. All bbq is served by the half pound and you're able to order a quarter pound too. I went here about 4 times before writing this review. Its very good, but can make your pockets hurt pretty quick lol. The best things that I think everyone should try once would be: 1. Smoked picahna pastrami - closest thing to brisket in my opinion 2. Tri-tip 3. Banana cream pie - aka banana pudding (better than Lazy Dogs!) 4. Root beer float You can add rolls to you order which is not advertised on the menu. They're like Hawaiian rolls. After looking at Yelp, I knew we had to try the beef cheek. It was very tender, but extremely salty. The flavor reminded me of beef jerky. This place was bomb. I went today. I expected no parking and a terrible line, but was pleasantly surprised with a spot in their parking lot and a line that moved quickly. I had tri-tip, the brussel cesar salad, Mac and cheese and we also asked for rolls. Oh and pickles. The pickles were bomb. When ordering, I asked if the beans were spicy and they gave me a little sample- and ya they were a little too spicy for me. The rolls weren't on the menu, but we asked for them and they were great. I've been going to Austin Texas for seven years, so my standards for barbecue are quite high. every time a friend of mine tells me that a place in California has a good barbecue, I try it and I'm utterly disappointed. Pastrami: 7/10 The flavor was good, but needed To be sliced a little bit more thin; what we received was slightly chewy. Potato Salad: 8/10 not your typical salad, has a modern twist my husband really liked it: Coleslaw: 7/10 felt like there was a lot of vinegar You help yourself with the bbq sauces, the Cali gold was probably the best, wish they served a spicy bbq sauce. If you have food allergies, I did email them and they did tell me that they can't accommodate due to the risk of cross contamination. They did just open up, and I am willing to try it again! -Harper bbq- officially opened on 3.27.25! we stopped in to try all the things & anticipated a wait. We were there around 3:30 on 3.28 & waited about 15 minutes or so to place an order. It was their second day being open, so we showed up knowing that we might not be able to try all the items on our list. When we got there they were out of a few of their meat selections & sadly their kitchen was closed from 3-5. We ordered Tri-tip, Jidori Chicken, Harper Slaw, Brussels sprouts Caesar, Pit Beans & the Jalapeño Cheddar Bratwurst as well as a few rolls. Both the chicken & Tri tip were full of flavor & the cheddar bratwurst was cheesy with a hint of jalapeño. My favorite side was the Brussels sprouts Caesar. I'm not a big fan of slaw & I did try it and felt like it was just okay. Loved the pit beans & the Calibama sauce that they coated then chicken in was amazing! The rolls were plain, kind of stale, totally something I'd skip next time we go. The interior has seating & a bar section with tvs. There is outdoor seating on both sides of the restaurant with a good amount of booths. There are two individual restrooms & an outdoor sink if you just needed to wash your hands! We are so glad we a had an opportunity to try some items on their menu as I anticipate the wait/lines for this spot will be insane on the weekends! When we come back we want to try their sandwiches & their Mac & cheese as well as a few of their desserts! Sad we weren't able to this visit, but totally understandable since they do need a few kinks to work out! read more
