Visited this restaurant a few weeks ago for breakfast and give this place a 10! It was my first time here. Starting with the service when we walked in, it was friendly and welcoming. After we made our order with the server our food was delivered quick and hot. My breakfast was amazing! I had the Eggs Benedict and one of the best I have ever had. My experience there was top notch. I believe I've already given a huge thumbs up to the Newport location and since I'm talking about it, we took my 87 year-old mother there for her birthday the other day and the food was absolutely fantastic and the service was awesome. They are extremely well traveled and have been to the finest restaurants around the world and they absolutely loved it. They're not easy to impress. I'm talking about the Costa Mesa location, the outside patio is awesome and inside is some combo of retro plus old Newport plus new Newport plus old and new Costa Mesa. It's cool and thought out. Service was well on point. The food, though, was incredible. The style gave retro diner vibe with earthy tones. Everything was pretty clean, & it wasn't overly decorated to where it felt cluttered. * Service: was good. We were a walk up & seating immediate in a partial booth/chai. It took a minute after we got seated to have the waiter bring water, but after that he was pretty attentive, in addition to being knowledgeable about the menu. * Food: surprisingly good on my end. We started with a half order or truffle Parmesan fries, which ended up being shoe string, & were well coated/flavored. I also ordered the sangria which was OK, while the BF got the chai espresso martini which he liked. I opted for the French Toast and he got the Short Rib Breakfast Tostada. I liked my FT as it was extra fluffy, with the syrup on the side. The BF liked his tostada but I think he preferred refried beans over black beans. * Final Thoughts: cute place with a non-overwhelming menu with a mix of classic & new dishes. I was introduced to Eat Chow by a close friend and overall had a pretty good experience. Their service was surprisingly quick, the food came out in 15 minutes from the time we ordered. The iced horchata matcha latte leaned much heavier on the horchata flavor, so don't expect a strong matcha taste if that's what you're looking for. The best thing we ordered was definitely the Chow Chorizo Burrito. It was fully stuffed, the chorizo was seasoned really well, and the avocado balanced everything nicely. I'd absolutely order this again or even pick up to-go for a full beach day. We also got the Strawberry Haute Cakes, which were massive, fluffy pancakes topped with fresh strawberries. Definitely a good option if you're sharing. A couple of things to note - parking is pretty limited, which is honestly expected for this area, so just plan ahead. The interior also feels a bit cramped for the amount of seating they try to fit in, but the space is at least nicely decorated and has a cozy vibe. I had the prime breakfast burrito and it was delicious. Often times places under season the individual ingredients in burritos, and that was not the case here. The meat and potatoes were perfectly seasoned to the point you didn't need salsa to elevate the experience. Although I did add it because of the spice level. Eat Chow is one of those places. That is such a great surprise, it's a little hole-in-the-wall place down a side street but is definitely worth the visit. One of the things I love about this place is it's very casual atmosphere, that really feels like you're eating at a friend's house for breakfast. The place is well kept, has plenty of outdoor seating if you choose, and inside. Has a very pleasant tasteful decor that is very casual and warm and inviting. I have not eaten here for lunch, as it's always been a breakfast place for me. Everything on the menu is stellar. And I've never had a bad experience here at all. This particular trip, I wanted to try something that I had never had before so I opted for the chow prime breakfast burrito... Which has strips of prime rib, hash browns, two eggs, onions and peppers, and is served with this amazing homemade salsa. The homemade salsa should also be a controlled substance, because I had three of them and I could probably take some home. I am a big fan of coffee, and their coffee does not disappoint. Super tasty. Just strong enough and unlimited refills. Their weight staff is absolutely perfect. If you go there, ask for Alex, super chill guy, attentive without being overbearing, and ready to make suggestions. He was definitely part of the wonderful dining experience. Bottom line? When you are in Costa Mesa and you are looking for a place to have breakfast, you owe it to yourself to go to Eat Chow. Used to come here all the time when I worked in the area, so made a trip over to see if it held up. The hole in the wall has expanded to a decently sized 50s diner aesthetic restaurant and the quality has remained solid. Had a quite excellent burger with a salad and a bowl of French onion soup. Service was pleasant and attentive for my group of four. Happy to see the place is as good as I remember. Now just have to hope they could bring back The Fried Egg breakfast plate, that was amazing and I miss it. But sadly I think it's lost to time. read more

Service was attentive, overall ambience was great (not too loud), plenty of areas for parking, and of course, the food was delicious! One thing I want to point out though is that I ordered crispy potatoes on the side and was served tater tots (not sure if the ran out, or if this location is different)...was a bit let down as I LOVE the crispy potatoes at the Newport location but these were still good. I am an original Eat Chow enthusiast. Been loving this place since they opened. I will always and forever claim they have the BEST SALMON SANDWICH anywhere. I moved away from Orange County many years ago but must always come back here to get a taste of home away from home. I am disheartened that they changed their salad dressing recipe. My boyfriend and I stopped in here on our short stay in Costa Mesa. It had some indoor and outdoor seating. Very cute retro vibe. Here's what we got: macadamia nut latte, cheesy tots and the chow prime burrito. I did originally want to order one of their matcha drinks but the server was nice enough to recommend something else as the powder was being revamped. The latte was enjoyable, the cheesy tots were WOW! Cheese lovers will be in heaven with those. The Chow Prime was quite average in my opinion - not much flavor, the salsa was the best thing about it. The flight came with 4 different flavors, a good option to share with a friend. The breakfast sandwich was pretty good. The brioche was super soft and the egg was cooked well and not too messy to eat. Cute brunch place with good drinks and food! We came here on a Sunday around noon, we're easily able to get in. Parking is street but there was plenty of that when we came. There is indoor and outdoor seating but we sat indoors since outside was crowded. Since it was the weekend they had brunch menu. For drinks we got the brown sugar espresso martini and chai espresso martini. For food I got the shrimp tacos and my fiancé got the chicken sandwich with salad on side. Brown sugar espresso (8/10)-glad I got it less sweet since it was perfect sweetness didn't get he brown sugar as much but not overly strong or weak. Chai espresso martini (8/10)-light in chai but not overly spicy and not too sweet either. Shrimp tacos (8.5/10)-large tacos good price for $18! Side of the beans were okay but the shrimp was plump with fresh salsa! Chicken sandwich (8.5/10)-juicy and flavorful, the bacon and cheese crisp made it unique! We just ate lunch here today and hadn't been in a while. Love the atmosphere and food and service was exceptional! We started with French Onion Soup which was delicious and very flavorful. My husband had the protein bowl and it was delicious! The sausage was cooked perfectly and sweet potatoes had so much flavor. The portion was really big for the $! I had the Newporter salad and it was one of the best salads I've ever eaten. The chicken was flavorful and the dressing was delicious. So customer service was poor but the food was amazing! Fabulous if I could say so myself. However, they brought our dishes without utensils. We also asked for an extra plate they forgot. We asked for hot sauce and they brought it out 20 mins into our meal so we ate it without the hot sauce. They also took 15 mins to come over to take our order.
