Chow Short Stack
Grace H.

This is a small brunch spot with a large menu and lots to offer! We had a large party that they were able to accommodate. We got everything from the sweet to savory options and lattes. Each plate was prepared well. The sandwiches were very filling and the I was stuffed after 2 out of 3 of the pancakes. The churro French toast was the most unique and the tostadas were our favorite thing we tried!

Their drip coffee is on point!

Eat Chow is one of those places. That is such a great surprise, it's a little hole-in-the-wall place down a side street but is definitely worth the visit. Parking can be a little bit tricky, but if you get there early enough you're in for a treat. One of the things I love about this place is it's very casual atmosphere, that really feels like you're eating at a friend's house for breakfast. The place is well kept, has plenty of outdoor seating if you choose, and inside. Has a very pleasant tasteful decor that is very casual and warm and inviting. I have not eaten here for lunch, as it's always been a breakfast place for me. Everything on the menu is stellar. And I've never had a bad experience here at all. This particular trip, I wanted to try something that I had never had before so I opted for the chow prime breakfast burrito... Which has strips of prime rib, hash browns, two eggs, onions and peppers, and is served with this amazing homemade salsa. The homemade salsa should also be a controlled substance, because I had three of them and I could probably take some home. I am a big fan of coffee, and their coffee does not disappoint. Super tasty. Just strong enough and unlimited refills. Their weight staff is absolutely perfect. If you go there, ask for Alex, super chill guy, attentive without being overbearing, and ready to make suggestions. He was definitely part of the wonderful dining experience. Bottom line? When you are in Costa Mesa and you are looking for a place to have breakfast, you owe it to yourself to go to Eat Chow. I'm not saying it'll change your life, I'm just saying it will change your life.

Tried this location as I love the one in Newport and safe to stay, it's just as amazing! Service was attentive, overall ambience was great (not too loud), plenty of areas for parking, and of course, the food was delicious! One thing I want to point out though is that I ordered crispy potatoes on the side and was served tater tots (not sure if the ran out, or if this location is different)...was a bit let down as I LOVE the crispy potatoes at the Newport location but these were still good. Also recommend to get chipotle aioli/ranch on the side for the potatoes!

Used to come here all the time when I worked in the area, so made a trip over to see if it held up. The hole in the wall has expanded to a decently sized 50s diner aesthetic restaurant and the quality has remained solid. Had a quite excellent burger with a salad and a bowl of French onion soup. Service was pleasant and attentive for my group of four. Happy to see the place is as good as I remember. Now just have to hope they could bring back The Fried Egg breakfast plate, that was amazing and I miss it. But sadly I think it's lost to time.

I am an original Eat Chow enthusiast. Been loving this place since they opened. I will always and forever claim they have the BEST SALMON SANDWICH anywhere. I moved away from Orange County many years ago but must always come back here to get a taste of home away from home. I am disheartened that they changed their salad dressing recipe. My little family of 3 enjoyed our brunch on a cool, sunny afternoon on the patio. Always friendly and attentive staff and tasty food. Highly recommend!

My server gave me great recommendations! Both my appetizers were great. And I love the 1950s diner vibe.

So my Mom is a vegetarian but my Dad is a meat lover who only likes American and Italian food which makes going out to eat with my parents difficult since basically we can go to Italian or American restaurants and in this part of Costa Mesa that's pretty much Nicks or Eat Chow and everyone in my family actually prefers the food at Eat Chow! They have really good food here! I'm always pleasantly surprised that whatever I order is delicious - especially the soups, salads and artichoke appetizer. My mom loves the cauliflower too.

1st time at the restaurant! Very nice experience. Friendly staff from start to finish. Enjoyed lunch for coworker's birthday! Food was so delicious. Highly recommend Eat Chow. I will be back soon.

The menu has changed since we last visited. Disappointing. A couple of menu items we came for are no longer offered even though still listed. Just ok now.

I try Mediterranean Bowl, It was very delicious! The service was amazing by Alex and Rogelio thank you so much for your attention!

Solid brunch choice in the Costa Mesa Newport area! Came here with a friend on New Year's Eve late morning. We had a reservation at 11:00 and were seated right away; they did not seem super busy considering it was NYE. I ordered the breakfast brioche sandwich and a mimosa flight to share. The flight came with 4 different flavors, a good option to share with a friend. The breakfast sandwich was pretty good. The brioche was super soft and the egg was cooked well and not too messy to eat. My dish came with a small side of breakfast potatoes that were really nicely cooked and had some parmesan on them as well. Prices are moderate, and portion size is okay. The decor inside is really cute, kind of like a nicer diner vibe.

Excellent staff. Outstanding service. Clean restrooms. Super cute and warm decor. Great food! Perfect spot to grab a bite and then attend Newport Beach Holiday Light Parade in the bay. Highly recommend. Western Burger, Butternut squash bisque w pesto drizzle, truffle fries, mac & cheese, Tres Amigos all excellent. And the sangria was the best I have had ANYWHERE..(blueberries whole were a treat) including famous wineries in Napa, Sonoma and Temecula. Blown away! We will be back. Thank you

The food was excellent, but our server Gabriel really made the night. He was attentive, funny, and gave great recommendations while answering all of our questions. We started with the prime beef tartare, shrimp ceviche and roasted cauliflower. All three were delicious. For entrees, we ordered the grilled octopus al pastor, short rib ravioli, branzino, and the 24 oz ribeye. Every dish was flavorful and well executed. The ribeye with mashed potatoes and mushrooms was cooked perfectly, but the standout for me was the short rib ravioli. I had heard of it before but never tried it until this visit. The pasta to filling ratio was spot on and every bite was excellent. For dessert, we ordered the espresso crème brûlée, which was rich, creamy, and well balanced. Gabriel also surprised us with a baklava cheesecake on the house, and our group could not stop talking about it. Combining baklava and cheesecake was a game changer. Definitely a place I would come back to.

(Does anyone work anymore!? ) The longest I waited was an hour but that was 3 weeks after opening. And I can tell you, as long as you have the time it will be worth it. The overall aesthetic is coastal cowboy meets rustic modern. There is a ton of seating with a great outdoor patio. Parking in the back is pretty slim, so your best bet is street parking. You can either get lucky or park around the block, depending on the day / time. My absolute favorite coffee is the Hawaiian Cowboy. It flavor profile is a nutty tasting honey that's refreshing yet not overly sweet. You can actually taste the espresso without it being too powerful. This coffee is worth the wait. Their other drinks are also good, but this one takes the cake. They have a pretty expansive food menu as well, so it's much more than "just a coffee shop". And you can't forget about their baked goods. O M G. It's from a local bakery (sift bakery) who makes the best non basic treats around. The Prime Skirt Steak looked appealing but was just average. It lacked flavor. What really left a bad impression was the issue with the seabass portions. My daughter arrived later & ordered the exact same Chilean Seabass dish, but her piece was literally about 1/3 the size of mine. We politely asked our server about the obvious difference. Eventually, a manager came out with a condescending tone insisting everything is weighed equally. The extra piece he brought out was basically the same small size as the first one my daughter received. At that point, the experience was already soured. We didn't even bother taking the extra piece or her leftovers home. Good cocktails & a few strong dishes, but the inconsistency & dismissive customer service would make us think twice about returning.
