    Broken salsa.
    Mary E.

Rest in peace to what used to be my favorite beakfast taco. Please fix the salsa. Not sure what happened to it. I ordered breakfast today and it was not fresh. I got four to go and they were all watery and seemingly days old and you can tell. The taste is not the same at all, was hard to get through the first taco with it on it. Didn't end up putting it on the second and this is one of my favorite salsas ever- it literally makes the foods It's usually so fresh. I'm so lost as to why it was so different today. The taco itself also fell short- something seems off like the tortillas aren't the same or ingredients aren't the same ? Damn I'm burnt. The avocado was also just not fresh.. hash browns are not crispy by any definition. This was extremely sub par for the price.. I hope you are day dotting your salsas. This was not cool. Without a good salsa this breakfast is just not worth it.

I stopped by Rooster Cafe on the way home from LAX en route to San Diego. It was about 9:00am, so we ordered a breakfast burrito, avocado toast with fruit, and two coffees. The staff were friendly and welcoming, and the place had a down-to-earth vibe. We sat outside on the patio under an umbrella. The breakfast burrito was pretty good. I really like that it was overly greasy at all. It has a good balance of eggs, hash browns, sausage, and cheese. The salsa was decent--essentially pico de gallo--but it was pretty nice when you added both the salsa and Tapatio. The avocado toast and fruit were nice, although I feel like getting one slice of toast with a smear of avocado is a bit disappointing at the price point. Don't get me wrong, I know avocado is expensive these days, but two pieces of toast with light smear or one that had a larger portion would've made a much better impression. Overall, I give the food 4/5 stars and the service 5/5. It's a decent spot and I'll try it again on another LA-to-SD jaunt someday.

Stopped in bright and early to get breakfast before a conference. This is my 2nd time here and I will always come back to this cute place. You walk up to the counter to place your order and then take a seat. Your food is delivered to your table. There is bar, indoor and outdoor seating. This time around I had the breakfast tacos which where fabulous. The house salsa has just the right amount of spice and the avocado brings the creaminess to these delicious breakfast tacos. The side of potatoes is a little underwhelming but I did appreciate the spice mix on them. My friend had the French toast which also looked decadent with strawberries and bananas. I also love the Mexican Mocha here. Not too sweet and just the right amount of cinnamon and spice. Definitely not a place to miss if you are in Costa Mesa.

Both my husband and I were extremely hungry as we took grandkids to the airport and wanted to eat somewhere nearby. I read about this place. It was a little hard to find as the sign is on one side of the street but the address is not. But we found it obviously. You go up to the counter and you order your food and they have a pretty big menu. My husband ordered the breakfast quesadilla and he said it wasn't quite as good as some. I ordered the breakfast tacos, the spice was just perfect. I wish they had them in Carnitas that would've been fantastic. They came with potatoes which they had onions or something, just your normal potato. I had a large coffee and one of the servers came by and got me another cup which I really appreciate it. Service was friendly place is small and you can eat outside also.

Great little breakfast spot. Parking was great and the atmosphere is open and bright. Food was excellent. Eggs came prepared perfectly with huge portions. The service was good. It's the kind of place where you order at the counter so this service doesn't feel as personal as when they come to your table, and still service was great.

Amazing toast. Service took a while on a Sunday, getting seated was ok but for the food it took a while. Steak was ok

It's just okay... the food was fresh. The prices weren't crazy. The value for the cost was what got me... one slice of avocado toast in an order? It's more like guacamole toast too. The Texas Toast aka French toast was solid. The servers were fine. There are umbrellas outside that will help keep half the party in the shade. It's an okay setting. Would I go back? If a friend really wanted to go there, sure... but not if the spot to have breakfast was up to me. I can't speak to the lunch menu. It could be good I may give it another try and get something different on the menu.l to see if it was just the morning.

We were originally heading to Work In Progress for coffee and breakfast, but ended up parking right across from Rooster Cafe and noticed it was packed. That always catches my attention. I quickly looked them up on the walk over they had mixed reviews but I was feeling a little adventurous so I convinced my bf we should eat here instead after coffee. Lol. He's easily swayed so here we are! We grabbed seats at the bar, and the first thing I noticed was there's no physical menu just an order from the board situation. Not ideal for me blame my bad vision! Also, this is very much an order first, pay first setup, so don't expect traditional table service. Food-wise, my bf ordered the French toast and said it was nothing special. I had the veggie scramble and would probably say the same. It was decent, but a little on the bland side. Portions are generous and the food comes out fast. Overall, it has that casual SoCal diner vibe with a slight Cali-Mex twist. I'm glad we gave it a try, but it's probably a one and done for us.

Rooster Cafe (established since 2005) is a casual dinner restaurant that specializes in breakfast items like breakfast burrito, breakfast tacos, and huevos rancheros. I came here because Nate's Korner in Santa Ana had an issue with the payment system and it was a no cash establishment, so I had to find an alternative breakfast spot and ultimately ended up here. [Parking]: The cafe is located near The CAMP and The LAB Anti-Mall which make find a public parking spot extra difficult during busy lunch or afternoon hours. However there is a small private parking lot for Rooster Cafe and parking should be pretty easy if visitors come here early for weekday breakfast. [Amenities]: The restroom is located outside and around the back. There are 6 indoor tables, 4 bar seats, and 6 outdoor tables. [Menu]: Breakfast burrito is the most popular item here. Customers can choose bacon, Portuguese sausage, or half & half. Wet burrito option is also available. The person in front of me ordered like multiple breakfast burritos with Portuguese sausage. Customers can upgrade to wet burrito upon request. *** Breakfast burrito half and half (Scrambled eggs, hash browns, shredded Cheddar cheese wrapped in a large flour tortilla - half & half aka half bacon and half Portuguese sausage - $13.75): I ordered it to-go and was ready in 15 minutes. House made salsa wasn't too bad but not amazing either. Hash brown didn't taste super crispy and the burrito was missing an extra dimension of flavor profile. Burrito was also not too big and not too small. *** Given its price tag, I just had a higher expectation. I still prefer breakfast burritos from Glee Donuts & Burgers and Ham 'n Scram.

We were looking for a more "affordable" brunch spot in the Costa Mesa/Newport area, and Rooster Cafe was one of the cheapest we had found on Yelp, we also live nearby. It definitely isn't cheap but it's cheaper than a lot of other brunch places around. The breakfast tacos were good especially with the avocado and large portions! We also had pancakes, a side of hash brown and the two eggs with (5) pieces of bacon great deal if you love bacon like me! It was very busy but we were able to luckily get a spot in the small parking lot and find a seat outside...there weren't that many tables overall but with the flow of people coming and going it works. It's an order then sit down system so it's super efficient and the food is brought to you.

Five stars for the services and the FOOD!! Holy Moly!! That Elvis Presley French toast was *chef kisses*, not too sweet or under, perfect with the fruits over whipped cream and peanut butter and banana, all it's missing is some rum and lit that thing on fire to make a flambé Elvis Presley French toast. 10/10 Heck I would come back just for that but another star is their omelet my bestie build her own and that was really good. It has spinach, mushroom and cheese forgot what cheese she added but it was fluffy and fill. Only thing we didn't like was the hash brown it has a freezer burn smell. But other than that, services were quick and smooth, didn't have to wait in line that long. Keep in mind this was on a busy Saturday , last week of summer before school started and our fourth place, we had went to three other places and the lines were out the door and no mobile order was allow. So come early, they do get busy and seating is limited. It's free parking by the way, we snatched street parking since The Camp and The Lab was nearby so it's BUSY.

$19 for a breakfast burrito? Is there filet mignon in there?

    Any gluten free options?

They have amazing Portuguese Sausage and Eggs if you're considering avoiding carbs and gluten altogether.

Just wondering... Do you still charge for refills on coffee?

    We got free coffee refills.

    Do they take reservations?

No. You also must wait in line and order your food and then get your table. There are signs and you'll be directed.

Can you bring dogs on the patio?

    Yes you can!

    Do they have Wifi?

I’m sorry, we don’t have public WiFi.

    Is the coffee good?

Yes. The coffee is good and so is the breakfast sausage and red potatoes.

Does this restaurant have a dog friendly patio?

Yes, dogs are allowed at sit on the ground at any of the tables outside. There is quite a bit of foot traffic around these tables, so as long as your dog is fine being around people, he/she will be happy.
