Busy Saturday at peak brunch time, but we were greeted and seated quickly. The environment was casual-chic with a focus on chickens (eggs?), and the space was well laid out and easily navigable. The food was excellent. We had the protein omelette and the breakfast burrito. The protein omelette was strong, and the Jurassic pork (sweet and savory seasoned bacon) stole the show there. Toast and fruit was well made and fresh. The burrito was where things went to the next level. Steak AND bacon in a burrito in this economy? Unbelievable. It was so rich and heavy I almost couldn't finish it. They didn't overcompensate for a lack of meat and eggs with a bunch of potatoes. The whole burrito was well balanced in that respect. The beans were excellent, and the cherry on top was the fresh made red chile salsa. It tied the whole experience together perfectly. Finally, the coffee was excellent as well, the only caveat being that we actually got our food before our coffee (only one barista was behind the bar and she was pretty backed up). We absolutely love Breakfast Republic, especially the UCI location, which is why this experience was so disappointing. Unfortunately, we received poor customer service from our server, Maria T. Shortly after we were seated, my brother ordered the Oreo pancakes. After waiting for our food, we were instead served an Oreo latte. At the time, the restaurant was relatively quiet--there were only about five other parties dining inside and outside around 9:30 a.m. on a Friday. When we politely explained that he had ordered the Oreo pancakes, Maria seemed visibly irritated. Rather than create an issue, I simply told her I would keep and drink the latte. Another server later brought the correct pancakes and was very kind, but Maria never came back to check on our table or see if we needed anything. The only time we saw her again was when she dropped off the bill. We genuinely enjoy this restaurant and hope this was just an off day at this location, because the food is consistently great. Parking is behind the restaurant and can get full by 10 am on the weekends, so plan to go earlier if you want to try a weekend brunch date. Final take. Really really cute small breakfast spot! I ordered the Portuguese Linguisa Sausage Omelette and it was so flavorful! I love how they had a generous amount of butter and jam for your toast. I ate at this location of the breakfast chain on a weekday morning. They have a parking lot behind the restaurant which has plenty of spots but I see how it can get full on weekends. I was seated right away; it wasn't very busy. My eyes quickly moved to the french toast section of the menu. The french toast consisted of two pieces which were folded over with gobs of peanut butter inside of each. We love coming here for little brunch dates when he happens to be off work and the kids are at school... although we definitely still come on weekends with the kids too. One of our favorite things on the menu is the pancake/French toast flight. You can mix and match any three flavors, which is honestly genius because who really wants to commit to only one type of pancake or French toast? Although, we are that couple that orders different things everywhere so we can split and try the best of everything. It's also surprisingly perfect for our kids. We have two autistic children (one nonverbal), and the flight option gives them variety without overwhelming them with huge individual plates. The Crab and Crawfish Cake Benedict was marvelous. I was a little confused by the blackberry jalepeño jam on the menu description, but it turned out to be a delightful addition that added a sweet complexity to the flavor profile. To me, the turkey bacon had a strange flavor and the eggs were anything you could cook yourself at home. I did really enjoy the protein pancakes though! They were slightly bland, but the toppings and syrup help and it's amazing how much you get for the macros! Plus, the chia and fruit on top tastes really fresh and this isn't something you can get elsewhere! Other than the for a craving of their pancakes, I'm not sure Id come back because the service was pretty slow as well. Host and server were very nice. We were told a true estimated seat time and, when we were seated, we checked up on a fair amount of times. We waited no more than 15 minutes upon arrival on a Sunday morning. I got the bacon Mac and my +1 got a scramble with potatoes and pancakes as a side.
