First time at Stowaway last night, loved the tropical tiki vibe! Place was packed when we got there around 6 pm. FREE parking available right in front. The shareable small bites were incredible--the Poke Bombs were indeed da bomb (pun intended), and the Tempura-battered Spam Musubi served with a sweet teriyaki-esque glaze and sriracha-mayo is an absolute must-order. Both items were so good that we ended up ordering them again. The drinks were great -- Three Dots and a Dash, Smoking Rita and the Lava Flow instantly transported me right back to Hawaii. Came here today for lunch and had a great experience! We loved the decor and theme. Had a 2:30pm reservation in the cabana. Our waiter was so nice too. We sat in the cabana near the cave, but the whole place is so cute. The food was good we got the edamame, spam musubi, coconut crusted tofu, poki bomb, loco moco, chicken tenders and fries and macaroni salad. The drinks were pina colada and the flamingo. Celebrated my brother's birthday here with our family and friends! We got a booth area with our big group and it was cute! The interior is dark and gives off the vibe of being in Hawaii! The drinks were flavorful, sweet but still strong! I love the martinis we got (dragon lady, treasure box, and vitamin D) and definitely recommend trying one or ALL of them! My friend and I were suffering from back-to-real-life after a vacay in Maui. The antidote? A stateside tiki bar! From the outside, The Stowaway is entirely deceptive. There's a sign at the door that hints at the theme within, but really, it was so delightfully shocking to walk into this immersive tropical paradise. The lighting, the decor, the music, and the total vibe of the place was so....Tiki bar! Reservations are greatly encouraged, and I made mine on Yelp. We were seated at the bar which worked out perfectly for us. We were greeted by a friendly, wonderful bartender (I *think* his name was Danny? Sorry if I got this wrong!) who created our tasty Polynesian themed cocktails for us. It didn't take long for us to release the tension in our shoulders, laugh a little more, and ease into relaxation here. Going for the full experience, we also had reservations at their speakeasy, The Belly of the Beast. We were well into the Hawaiian spirit as we moved into that delightful space next (also reviewed). We weren't really ready to head home yet, so we were able to be reseated back at the bar. Our new bartender was fantastic, too! He made what might be my new favorite drink for the now, "The Bitter End". The Stowaway had been on my radar for a while, but I'm IE and it's OC, and it's easier to get to Maui. Loved this place!!! Not only did it have beautiful design and fun drinks, the food was so good! I would recommend to make a reservation or join the waitlist on the way over, we thought we could just walk in but it was an hour wait that ended up only being around 30 minutes! The front door staff was kind and she explained the 2 hour strict dining policy as she walked us to our table. I was blown away by the beauty of this place, it reminded me of an adult version of the rainforest cafe. My friends and I started off with a few drinks-- mai tais and the dole whip drink they have. Both were really good but the dole whip is out of this world. For food we shared wings, poke bombs, coconut shrimp, spicy edamame, and fries. The portions are decent for the price but it makes sense because the food is so flavorful. My favorite item was the spicy chili wings. Definitely recommend reservations and parking can be tight. I recommend parking behind the building. (Update: the staff was very nice and let me know that the other side might tow on weekends!) Even though I don't drink alcohol, I thought it was very cool with the Hawaiian themes and there were so many cool cocktails. Apparently there's a speakeasy in this bar too. Well here we go we attended our first Rum tasting event and to kick things of right it was at Stowaway . The night was going to be memorable since as soon as we walked in we were greeted by the host and she explained to us the event and we shared tables with another great couple that was already there . Ambiance : yes a tiki bar but not just any tiki bar it's Stowaway the decor lighting and atmosphere were great from people having some great drinks at the bar to a lively crowd waiting for the 151 tasting to start . Food : for a bar you would think that their food is regular bar food not really there for the food and just the drinks . Needless to say you guys have to try the spam nachos and coconut shrimp we had both and totally amazing . Drinks: now where is where it gets interesting. The 151 tasting by itself was certainly something to remember . But the drinks in this place are amazing we had hurricanes and. Zombies and cobra Fang definitely all strong but delicious drinks . Wow! This place was amazing! As soon you enter you're instantly transported to a Tiki Oasis! The decor of this establishment is next level, so rad! We ordered the pineapple fried rice, deep fried spam musubi and a Loco Moco! When in Rome, actually Tustin I had to try some of their recommended drinks! I started off with a Rum Runner which was served in a surfing chango cup and finished off with a Zombie that was in a totally rad deep sea fish angler cup!! After a farewell dinner to/at Gulliver's Prime Ribs Of Beef, our party of six continued the evening several miles away at Stowaway for some light bites and libations. Personally, I was all about the Hawaiiana tiki culture and tried to live it every day. Founded by co-owners Leonard Chan and Dominic Iapello, its current home of barely three years in a former dive bar came about when they unceremoniously had to leave the original location. With its proximity to Disneyland's Enchanted Tiki Room and the very niche underground-like society of tiki culture, they found their footing with a consistent customer base and the thrill of island escapism through colorful cocktails, pleasurable pupus, and tropical trimmings. Would I stow myself away somewhere inside and never leave!? PURCHASE(S) Don Q Punch Bowl ($38.00): Made with Don Q's Cristal Silver, Anejo, and 151 Gold Rums, respectively, peach brandy, passion fruit, pineapple juice, and citrus juices, this flaming concoction was rumtastic in every way possible as the tropical juices just made it that much sweeter. The service at Stowaway is exceptional! I bring this up first because Danny was an excellent server who made the finest drinks for me and my friend. At one point, I accidentally spilled my drink and he cleaned it up but reassured me I wasn't the first customer to make that mistake. Stowaway's staff is friendly and they are generous with the servings! Overall, I'm a fan of the Tiki theme of this bar. Every drink is served in a unique container and has a unique blend of ingredients. There's certainly a drink on the menu for every customer who comes here! The interior of the bar is clean and there's usually plentiful parking right outside in the plaza. Stowaway just rolled out five new drinks for summer with a summer camp theme. This enticed us to come back and try the new drinks after our last few visits were subpar. You can make reservations on Yelp, and there is also a Yelp live wait list. We visited during happy hour (Tuesday thru Friday from 4pm to 6pm) to take advantage of their food specials. We had the coconut shrimp ($12, but $7 during happy hour) which are always good. We also had some fries ($7, but $5 during happy hour). They were good and a generous portion. She wanted to try the vegan (cauliflower) salt & vinegar wings ($14, but $9 during happy hour). They were breaded and fried well, but had very little flavor. There was just a light sprinkle of a salt & vinegar seasoning. More salt and a dash of malt vinegar on them, or a side of malt vinegar would have made them a lot better. The happy hour food was a good value and got something in our stomachs. My first cocktail was the Wilderness Badge (Tequila, Lemongrass, Basil, Bergamot, Lemon, $17). This was by far my favorite. I love Italicus liqueur and this drink had great bergamot flavor up front with a light basil flavor from the basil infused tequila. It was very balanced and I would have never guessed this was a tequila based cocktail. She started out with the Sasquatch Sighting (Jamacian Overproof Rum, Cynar, Mango, Molasses, Lime, $17). This was balanced, with a light bitterness and light sweetness with mango flavor. Next, I tried The Lost Camper (Demerara Rum, Thai Green Tea, Pineapple, Coconut, Lime, $16). It was a pineapple bomb with a hint of coconut. I didn't like it at all and actually sent it back. I did think the skeleton arm and hand swizzle stick was cool. It is served with the hand at the bottom, but I took the picture with it sticking out. Instead, I had the Black Sands from the regular cocktail menu (Bali Hai Pineapple Rum, Diplomatica Reserve Rum, Pineapple, Orange, Guava, Lime, Coco, charcoal, $18). It is served with a flaming lime and sugar cube. I've had this several times and love it. It has a great funky complex flavor. Next, she had the Naked & Afraid (Mezcal, Campari, Smoked Pineapple, Serrano, Passionfruit, Lemon, $17). This was really good with a great complex mix of smoke and bitterness with a little heat. She gulped it down, and I was lucky to get a few sips. We decided to share the last new cocktail, the Scouts Honor (Vokda, Peach, Mandarin, Orgeat, Lime, $16) so we could say we tried them all. It looks nice with a bright orange color, but it was very sweet and peach forward with a hint of orange. Our server Crystal was great, very friendly and provided great service. We started collecting mugs recently, and we bought the Belly of the Beast Monstro mug ($62) to take home. BOTB is their Pinocchio themed speakeasy in the back (separate reservation required). They also have several other Stowaway branded mugs available. This visit was definitely better than our last few. As far as the five new Summer Camp cocktails, two were excellent, one was good, one was ok, and one was not good. The food was good, and is a great value during happy hour. read more

A decade ago, I sometimes went to a tiny tiki bar at the District in Tustin until one day, to my disappointment, it vanished. Recently, while reading a tiki bar review by Raven R., I noticed it had the same name as the place I used to visit and, after a bit of investigation, realized that they had moved to this larger space. They'd been in business for a few years at this new location and I just now found out! I immediately made reservations (recommended). We were seated in one of the tiki booths, shown a QR code to access the menu, and reminded there is a two hour time limit due to limited seating. We started with a couple of appetizers - angry edamame and chicken skewers - as they were a happy hour deal. The edamame, made with sriracha, garlic, and ginger, were at the edge of my spice tolerance (which is very low), but I loved them, while the chicken was tender with a delicious miso sauce. The big reason to come here is for their magnificent variety of cocktails. I had a Kona Coffee (spiced rum, macadamia nut liqueur, espresso, and coconut) which was fantastic, definitely on my list of favorites. Later I had a Rum Runner (Hamilton West Indies rum, blackberry, banana, pineapple, and orange) which was fruity and sweet, served in a surfer-monkey mug. I really like this one too. As a main dish I got the grilled pineapple teriyaki chicken sammie, which was a festival for the taste buds, although a bit messy. The accompanying fries were excellent. This place was a 10 out of 10. Food was amazing, drinks were awesome, and the ambiance transported you the moment you walked in. You can tell the owners really have the right passion for tiki bars with vintage cups and tiki mugs, flame drinks, curated umbrella drink decor and a rum list that had about 100 different types. The pineapple rice was delicious and well flavored with pineapple and ham, the coconut shrimp was perfectly cooked and the egg rolls were cut fairly for a table appetizer. The dipping sauce was perfect too. I had the Vitamin D in a coupe, my sister had the flamingo which needed simple syrup which they brought and took care of that, my husband had a coffee drink after ordering a green iguana which they didn't have. My wife and I finally made a long-overdue trip back to one of our favorite Tiki bars, Stowaway. We've been coming here since its Tustin District days, and every visit feels like an experience from the moment we walk in. With this ridiculous heat wave, stepping into the A/C was already a win . Add the beautiful decor, great atmosphere, friendly staff, and delicious food, and it reminded us why we love this place. There is, however, one thing that has always been missing for me: the drinks. I love a good Mai Tai, but Stowaway's has always been too sweet. I knew that going in, but decided to try it again and asked our waiter to make it more "funky"--meaning more Jamaican rum-forward. Unfortunately, it still tasted overly sweet. I even did something I've NEVER done at a Tiki bar before: I sent it back . I tried their version of a Navy Grog instead, which was better, but eventually ordered a soda because there wasn't anything else on the menu I hadn't already tried or been disappointed by. That's my biggest--and really only--complaint about Stowaway. Everything else is fantastic. The food, staff, decor, and even the clean, beautifully designed bathrooms are all great. You can tell a lot of thought goes into the experience. I also appreciated how accommodating the staff was when there was a misunderstanding about a reservation I thought I had for Belly of the Beast, the speakeasy inside Stowaway. They were incredibly helpful and still managed to get us in. Belly of the Beast This was a cool, completely different experience. I tried the Farewell Jimminy, a delicious mango-forward cocktail, and really enjoyed it. My only suggestion would be to make the atmosphere more immersive. Since the music was the same as in Stowaway, different music--or even no music--could create a more unique feel. Adding growls, rumbling, or other sound effects would also make you feel more like you're inside the belly of the beast. There's a lot of potential there! With all that said, we still absolutely love Stowaway and will definitely be back. I just hope they revisit their Mai Tai recipe and add a few more classic Tiki OG cocktails. I'd love to see Stowaway's incredible atmosphere and food matched by a cocktail menu that gets me just as excited. Still one of our favorite spots. read more

It's a tiki bar, but I was so glad the drinks weren't overly sweet or loaded with sugar like at many other places. I tried the loco moco, which came with mac salad and was really good. What a super fun bar and restaurant this is! The theme is Tiki and they have a very vast menu of really creative drinks! Their Happy Hour Menu runs Tuesday-Friday 4pm-6pm and it's great value both for drinks and food (our Angry Edamame was half priced at $5, instead of $10) Also all skewers are $2 off. Is it as high end and bougie as Strong Water? No. Does it tickle your fancy and offer a wonderful experience that even your kids can enjoy? Absolutely! Kids- yes they are welcome. In fact mine had the time of their life. Just don't be those parents and bring them after 7. It is a tiki bar after all and unless they follow the rules of Arrested Development then let them chill at home with grandma and grandpa or maybe their weird Uncle Joe. Drink- Delightful. Very fun themed glassware. Presentations were beautiful and well thought out. Our server did a great job at recommending drinks that built on top of the previous one. Food- the weakest part of the experience. While certainly not bad however when compared to the rest of the experience it just was a bit lacking. The Loco Moco looked very nice. The patty was quite dry though. Yes there's gravy but that's not an excuse for a dry patty. Mac salad was very nice. Stowaway fries were fun and tasty. For appetizers, we ordered the coconut shrimp, the spam nachos, and the wings. The coconut shrimp with sweet chili sauce was good, the wings were also very good. But the spam nachos were not as great, however that can just be a personal taste preference. For our main entrees, we ordered different things, their burger, onion rings, local plate, etc. They were a mix of good and mid dishes. We did love the onion rings and fries. We went for a birthday celebration and had a great time on August 2. We had dinner, fun drinks in really cool glasses, and even got to experience some magic. Everyone ordered something different, both food and drinks, and everyone was happy with what they got. The pineapple fried rice was fantastic! So was the Zombie! The drinks come in some really fun glasses, and yes, it costs extra if you want to take the glass home, but we thought it was totally worth it. We love having our Zombie glass at home now. We've been coming to Stowaway for a few years, and it has always been a delight! The Saturn has to be my favorite cocktail, a nice and tart gin-forward drink that a waitress recommended a few visits ago. The only complaint is the parking situation. Can be difficult, if not impossible, to find parking, and Stowaway doesn't offer suggestions on alternatives (you can park in the plaza behind Stowaway, but be warned that that plaza does have the right to tow) read more

My friends and I needed a place to go to trauma bond and we wanted to check this place out. Placed a reservation to sit at a Tiki Hut but we were sat somewhere else, but no biggie. We all decided to go for the Zombie since the Angler tiki mug looks awesome. We also ordered the Pineapple Fried Rice and the Poke Bomb. The PFR was the best! The Cococano was the next drink we ordered. Super explosive! Not too strong but tastes really good! Definitely need to come back and book the Belly of the Beast!!!! read more

Great tiki bar! From the outside this place looks like a dive, but once inside, it's like a completely different world-- they decorated well and there is a positive energy noticeable from the hostess stand. Stowaway has amazing ambiance with knowledgeable and nice staff. There are so many drink options, I'm planning trips just to try more. First time we came, we went to Beast and saw how cool Stowaway was, that we came back. Food options were theme based and really good. Whether date night, or out with friends/group, Stowaway is a great place to at least stop into get a drink. However, would argue that you could spend the evening here and still want to come back. read more

I suggest you order the cococano with the full fire show! You'll be glad you did. The whole bar joins in on the fiery volcanic experience. And the drink tastes pretty good too! I was so happy to finally check out Stowaway that I forgot to take photos! A cardinal sin! The phone should ALWAYS eat and drink first. Shame on me. Anywho, if you're a tiki fan, Stowaway is a must-try. My friend found this cool place! Then I came to visit twice in the same week lol. Love how the entire place is decorated.. makes you feel fully immersed in the theme. This place has an extensive menu of drinks and food. I ordered the blue Hawaiian, dole whip and dragon lady .. drinks tasted pretty good and not too strong. The drinks with the skull next to the name are super strong I was told. We also ordered wings, onion rings and edamame to go with the drinks. We didn't make a reservation before we went so luckily they had spaces open but it's on the high top. If you make reservation you get seated at a nicer table with couch seating, more comfy chairs etc. place gets busy towards night time especially on a Saturday. Plenty of parking in the plaza is a plus. Definitely will check this place out again the next time I want to grab drinks. read more

A nice place for something a little different. The drinks are excellent. The Singapore Sling was generous and the Blue Hawaiian was fantastic. We got quite a bit to share. Poke Nachos, Pork Sammie, Stowaway Burger, Coconut Shrimp, Macaroni Salad and Fried Span Musubi were very good as were the fries and aioli that accompanied the sandwiches. It's got a cozy and dark ambiance nicely decorated in a Tiki style. As Shag fans, we appreciated the Shag print at our booth. Service was overall good. Order taken promptly with food and drinks coming out fresh and fast; my only small gripe was a neighboring table kept our waiter at their table for at least 10 minutes. Cutest tiki bar I've ever been to! This is a fairly small location which means limited seating so I do recommend getting a reservation if you can. If not you can join the waitlist but even the waitlist can build up quick so do prepare to wait. My friends and I got lucky and joined the waitlist and waited less than an hour. Theirs a 2 hour limit once you are seated. Their menu is so cute and all the drinks looked and sounded delicious. I love a good espresso martini so when I saw the Kona coffee I had to get it. My friend got the Crystal Cove and after I tried it, I had to get it as my second drink. The Kona Coffee has: Spiced Rum, Macadamia Nut Liqueur, Espresso, coconut. It was creamy, sweet, and the rum wasn't too overpowering. The Crystal Cove has: Vodka, lychee, guava, coconut water, lemon. If you love sweet and fruity drinks, I highly recommend this! We weren't super hungry so we ordered dishes that we can snack on while we were catching up. We got the poke bombs, spam spam nachos and the stowaway fries. Everything we ordered was honestly delicious. Out of the three, my favorite had to be the stowaway fries and the poke bombs! We had a great time and I'd definitely come back to try their other drinks and food! read more

Make reservations. Not much of a line on Sunday but you get the sticky aftermath of Saturday haha. The new bar busser dude has his heart in the right place, he is enthusiastic and checks in, but there is a difference in customer interaction skill level. The bartenders are extremely talented and do make pretty strong drinks so you are getting your worth. Instead of the pool tables now they have more seating and decorated areas so it is more separate groups and private booths than a mingle experience. There are bag hooks at the bar seats. Hot take, but im actually not much of a rum drinker, and this place is knooown for rum, but it is a close good speakeasy. They even have seasonal cocktails. So we asked for fruity sweet drinks per usual. The coconut coye was super refreshing and really didnt taste like any alcohol. The Bahamas mama was stronger and had the alcohol taste. The fries this time were more thick cut and fluffier. The second round of water kind of tasted off. But overall, I appreciate the servers effort in making us feel welcomed and how well the drinks are made/variety offered. Overall, huge menu with cocktails and bites. Might need some cleaning/ventilation maintenance. But a great speakeasy overall. read more
