I can't remember his name, but he mentioned he was from Virginia, and his friendly service really stood out. The tiki drinks were delicious and had a beautiful presentation--almost too pretty to drink! Their happy hour is a fantastic value, and we also tried the chicken skewers, which were very tasty. This was my first time at Twisted Tiki, and I really wanted to like it because I love tiki bars. It's a fun little place, and we enjoyed the two drinks we ordered. They were both tasty. I ordered the Zombie, which was really good and came with a cool zombie hand. We also had a nice time talking with the bartenders. Unfortunately, the air conditioning wasn't working that night, and it was really hot inside. We sat in the corner at the bar, and one of the bartenders was nice enough to turn the fan on the bar toward us. I appreciated the effort, but at that point it was basically just moving warm air around. We also ordered French fries, but they never came. We asked about them and were told the kitchen might be backed up. After we finished our drinks, we were ready to leave because of the heat, so we asked about the fries again. They went to check, but there still wasn't an answer as to when they'd arrive, so we canceled the order. I don't want to be too hard on the place because the drinks were good, the bartenders were friendly, and the broken AC may have just been an unfortunate situation that night. We actually went to Twisted Tiki because Mission Control wasn't quite what we remembered, so I'm not sure I would make a special trip just for Twisted Tiki based on this visit. That said, we're fans of tiki bars, so if we're in the area again, we'll definitely give it another try. Hopefully the AC is working and the French fries make it to the table next time! read more

Overall a fun experience. It's a tiny little bar tucked away in a quasi food-court building near downtown Santa Ana. Service was good. Ambience was ok, it was a bit dark and the music was nice but they cranked the volume halfway through our visit so we had to yell at each other even at the same table. Prices were fair and the drinks were amazing. Highly recommend the whiskey cocktails. Late review I came back in February and I stopped in on a Friday afternoon and it was already poppin. I came alone as I was working remotely in this area and I had been wanting to visit since I saw it went I came to this plaza last year for the upstairs arcade. I just grabbed 1 drink at the bar. The staff was supper friendly and checked on me several times. My drink was nice and strong so one was enough . I did pair it with some water before I headed out. I can't remember if they validate but closest parking near by is the parking structure across the street. Had a blast at Twisted Tiki! Shaun and the rest of the crew were so much fun and crafting up delicious tiki cocktails. When I made reservations, I made them for the larger, non-bar room which was fine, but the bar is where you want to be and I highly recommend sitting at the bar. So much fun in such a compact space. A great hidden gem. Went with my brother, his partner and some friends. We had a nice corner area right in front of the bar so we got to watch all of the action. They offer small bites, the bao buns were tasty and fairly reasonably priced for two. The drinks were dangerously delicious. I say dangerously because you could not taste the alcohol. Not super sweet, just right. The rum flight was good, nice to have a variety bit next time I for sure am getting a drink drink. The staff was great, very welcoming as well. We visited Twisted Tiki earlier this year and planned to return at some point. I have followed their account on Instagram for a long time, but it was never very active. Shaun is a new bartender there, and he is now posting new content regularly. His video about their Black Friday "buy one, get one free" Tiki mug offer prompted a return visit. The first time we visited, we sat at the bar in their main Tiki bar area. This time, we wanted to check out their "Lava Lounge" room across the hall from the main bar. This room has a mix of a nautical theme, lava and lava rock, and some Tiki elements. I would say this room seats about 15 people with a combination of three high top tables, several chairs facing a small bar top against the wall, and a few padded benches surrounding a crate in the middle. The room is dimly lit, and there is a big screen TV on the wall that normally displays flowing lava or the deck of a ship in a storm, but it was turned off when we visited. We were actually greeted by Shaun, and he described some of their current special off-menu drinks. We placed a drink order and I went to get a pizza and some tacos from the food court to bring back in. My first cocktail was an off-menu concoction which I would call "Shaun's pandan special" ($18). He mentioned that some of the ingredients were white rum, overproof rum, pandan syrup, and brown sugar. It has a great green color and he described how he made the pandan syrup himself. It is definitely boozy at first and finishes with a great nutty brown sugar flavor. Her first cocktail was also an off-menu Ube Pina Colada ($14). It has a great purple color and is garnished with two ube flavored cookies. It had a good pina colada flavor with ube in the mix. For my second cocktail, I was split between the Monkey Paw and Crystal Cove. One of the other bartenders actually let me try a little taste of the banana whiskey and mezcal to help me make my choice. I ended up going with the Crystal Cove (lime, orange, simple syrup, orgeat, dry curacao, mezcal, Guatemalan rum, $15). The smokiness from the mezcal was at the perfect level, and it was balanced well with the rum and other flavors. Her second cocktail was the Humuhumunukunukuapua (coconut, mango, lime, pineapple, blanco tequila, coconut shavings, $14). The primary flavors were coconut and pineapple and it had a light sweetness. It was nice to check out the Lava Lounge, but we were the only ones in there the whole time. From now on, we will sit on the main Tiki bar side. I definitely enjoyed my drinks more on this visit, and the Black Friday special for the Tiki mugs was a bonus. Keep up the good work Shaun, your efforts are very noticeable. read more

First time at The Twisted Tiki and my mind was completely blown! Tucked inside McFadden Public Market, stepping inside feels like escaping into a tropical paradise. The drinks are phenomenal--they clearly use top-tier spirits rather than cheap alcohol, Shaun was very helpful and funny! I visited on a Tuesday for Tiki Taco Tuesday, and the tacos paired amazingly with the two drinks I ordered: the Sangre de Luna and the Zombie. Do not skip the Guacapoke--it is to die for! Twisted tiki is a fun bar on the bottom floor of a food market in downtown Santa Ana. It has two sides and is fairly small, definitely a hole in the wall vibe. There can be quite a wait so definitely make a reservation if possible. The Kilauea bowl came with a fire feature which made for a very festive drink, but the flavor itself was ok and there was quite a bit of ice watering it down. The Luau bowl had much more flavor and I would go back for that one instead. This is a fun spot for something different! read more

During the day it's not a dark tiki bar because the front is open and let a lot of light in so it doesn't really give you that dark tiki bar vibe that I like a lot interior is still pretty cool. Maybe I just need to go check it out at night for those dark tiki bar lives service was pretty good. They were pretty attentive. We didn't try any of the food. We did get some drinks. Drinks were OK. I don't drink alcohol, but I do drink mocktails and the cocktail that I got was a painkiller but for some reason, it didn't taste like a normal painkiller. Went here with my family on a Wednesday night and it wasn't very busy. I had the Mana Tai but tried the other drinks my family ordered. Everything was really good and we could tell they put time into making the drinks! We were able to bring in Mexican food we ordered from inside the market but I saw they also had some tiki bites. My friend and I arrived at the same time, I did street meter and she did garage; she paid 75 cents for 3.5 hours and I paid $7.75 for the street meter ($2 per hour) The structure was marked city of Santa Ana on outside and the pay structure indicates first hour is free So it being Orange County and it not being a beach city, I've never loved that Santa Ana has paid parking so it's a knock against twisted tiki location wise. Like if I'm gonna get charged for parking and go to a tiki bar, I might as well go to Trader Sam's. It's inside the McFadden public market food hall,2 With a barcade conveniently located upstairs. There's two seating area- one is a room with the bar and booths, while we were seated in the other small room that felt like we were inside a ship. It's a really cool speakeasy-kinda place, with creative decor. As all tiki drinks typically are, it's very sweet. I only drank one to avoid hangovers from all the sugar. You scan the QR code for the menu. We ordered a drink similar to a Pina colada, and another one with whiskey with other fruit juices. Forever on the hunt for new tiki bars, we put on our best and headed over to Twisted Tiki in Santa Ana! Arrived at around 9 and were able to get seated right away. The set up in this place is interesting. Split into two sides, makes the place seem more intimate, which was great for date night. For food, luckily Twisted Tiki is located in the McFadden public market and we were able to snag some grub from the food court inside. I love having options so this came in clutch. Ok to drinks! We had the Sandy chi chi, The Mai Tai, the purple Polynesian sunset, the Humuhumu, and of course had to take a mug home which included one drink in it I can't remember. All were fabulous! The bartender seemed to be riding solo on this Tuesday night at 5pm and he handled like a champ! With such an intricate beverage menu I must say he was impressive. We just so happen to visit for happy hour and their top menu items were offered. I'd highly suggest The Purple Polynesian Sunset and the Mana Tai, they are tiki themed and on a sweeter side but absolutely delicious. It is a smaller spot located inside a dinning hall type experience in downtown Santa Ana. There is a small paid parking lot behind the market and there is a public parking structure a block away that's paid or free depending on the time and day. It's pretty convenient that you can get food at the market and then come here for drinks after. ZOMBIE ($15) - this was strong but easy to drink which made for a dangerous combination. It was fruitier than other zombies that I had. 3.5/5 HUMUHUMUNUKUNUKUAPUA'A ($14) - the name was too long so I just told the bartender I wanted the "humuhumu drink". It's a tequila-based drink and you can tell it's there but it was mild in pungency. It had a hint of tartness and coconut and is definitely for tequila lovers. 4/5 KILAUEA ($35) - this was a shareable drink that we mainly got because of the fire show. It tasted like punch and was slightly coconut-y. It had lots of liquid but we didn't think it was super strong. 3.5/5 This bar is on the smaller side with only about 15 seats and there's extra room across the hall. Even though there's tiki decor all around, it didn't feel as immersive as other tiki bars. read more

The Twisted Tiki is an old favorite of mine for OC tiki. It's a very small place but they have good drinks on the menu. You can order food in from some of the places in McFadden if you want and Mission Control is conveniently upstairs. My personal favorite is the Purple Polynesian Sunset. The place maybe fits 16 people or so so seating can be limited. Service is usually great consequently and they have a nice tiki vibe going on. read more
