The service and food here is great. I got the asparagus ricotta frittata and shared a pancake flight with some friends. I'm not a fan of pancakes, but the pancakes were fluffy and had interesting options. We ordered the churro, bacon, and upside down pineapple cake which were all delicious. My friend ordered the chilaquiles which was the best dish on the table. We went right before the overland expo and we honestly did not have a great experience. The host was very rude to my friend when she tried to put our names on the waitlist. He asked if our whole party was there and she said they're parking at the moment, and he proceeded to lecture her saying we can't seat anyone if the whole party isn't there. My friend then asked if the table was ready and he said no. So all the fuss he made, and our table wasn't even ready. The food was mediocre - nothing special. Our food took a while, and our drinks were pretty watered down. Parking is very limited. I would probably not return especially with how the service was. read more

Hi, This morning we ate at Breakfast Republic in Costa Mesa. This is a "interesting" breakfast place, kind of quaint, with excellent service! Unfortunately the excellent part ends with the service. We ordered and shared the pineapple upside down pancakes and the brioche French toast. Photos of each attached. I have to begin with both orders we barely luke warm when they arrive at the table. Add to that, cold syrup, and both breakfasts were cold from the first bite! The least they could do would be to warm the syrup! We ordered the pineapple upside down pancakes because of the clever, appetizing, description on the menu. Basically it was three pancakes, a very small portion of crushed pineapple and some whipped butter. A huge disappointment! The French toast was even more uninspiring! Four half pieces of French toast on a plate and a very small container of syrup. Nothing else. No butter. Nothing! Every Denny's does better than this! Basically I am giving this restaurant 2 stars. Our "waiter" seemed irritated that we were there. But we figured out later that he was a bus person who was helping the waiter. However, he still needs a lesson in customer service. He also needs to be taught not to handle trash cans and our food plates with the same gloves on. One coffee was served in a cup with a large crack going from top to bottom, AND bright pink lipstick. I don't wear lipstick. Neither does my son. Our food was delicious. So no complaints there. The real server stopped by once to check on us and was pleasant enough. He was serving a table of 15 and 3 other tables of 2 guests each so he was busy and I get that, so no complaints on his service. I do prefer the Irvine location for ambience and especially for parking, but I was closer to this one and was starving. I'll still eat here as I really enjoy the food and the selections. read more

Ordered my pancakes with banana foster that was pretty weak. Expected some flavor from the foster sauce but don't think it was cooked long enough. The seasonal French toast was pretty good. I really wanted to like this breakfast spot, but my experience wasn't great. The ketchup on my table was sour and clearly old. The bottle was nearly empty and the taste was off as soon as I poured it on my potatoes. I let an employee know, and while he did take the bottle away, that was it. No offer to replace my potatoes, no discount. I even grabbed a full bottle from another table just to compare, and the difference was obvious. Besides that issue, the chicken omelet was actually really good, but the lack of care from the staff over something so simple made the whole visit disappointing. Went to Breakfast Republic on a Sunday morning and was seated right away. We brought some out-of-town visitors, who were impressed with the diverse menu choices. We had breakfast jambalaya, chilaquiles, Portuguese linguisa sausage, and shrimp and crabcake benedict. Everything was DELICIOUS and portion size left us full, saying we didn't need to eat for the rest of the day. Although the restaurant was short-staffed that morning, our server did everything possible to give all the customers exceptional service. He was friendly, courteous, professional and very attentive. Parking area is good, we were immediately greeted and seated even without out our full party. When seated we were told our server would be Alex! She was very attentive. Here's the order - 2 Eggs Benedict w/crab cake and crawfish & an order of the chiliquiles Both were Good! Vibes here are great lots of Cute deco & spots to take a cute selfie! Definitely hipster vibes. We'll be back to try some other options. I am a connosuir of Eggs Benedict and try them at every breakfast spot. This version was good and I'd be happy if I had it again but it wasn't anything super special. Next time I will order one of the Pancake flights or french toast options. Ah, Breakfast Republic, how much I love thee! We were first introduced to BR down in San Diego. Since that introduction four years ago, we have stopped at one during every trip we make to So-Cal. The atmosphere here is fun (Walkens Only), (go to the bathroom and pay attention to the stereo). We always have friendly staff, but sometimes they are just so busy that you have to stop someone to get drink refills. As a heavy drinker (of iced tea and coffee), this takes a star away for me. But the food is great! I haven't had any food here that I didn't like. Mexican Mochas are delicious! The only thing that I don't like here (please don't cancel me) is the house ketchup. It must not be the norm as people seemed to be packing in this place. I had a dirty chai and the protein lover scramble. The dirty chai was good overall- lots of cinnamon, it's good that I like cinnamon because there was a good layer of it. Sadly it was mildly warm. My neighbors potatoes looked so good - I thought they looked crispy and seasoned so I was super excited. They were cold, not crispy and not seasoned. The whole plate was pretty cold unfortunately. My friend who is a vegetarian was excited about the vegan and vegetarian options. But her plate was super cold too. Neither of us finished even half of our food. We had lunch on Saturday. There is much parking, though the entrance is technically off 17th Street, a tough turn on a busy day. (I wrote "technically" because we drove in from the exit. We had to back into a parking space.) The food was good. My son had the shrimp and grits, which was pricier ($18) but smaller than my sausage scramble ($13), which was tasty and filling. Well, to start the service was lacking. I got the bartender at a regular table for some reason. I asked for home potatoes. I told the server right away but they didn't get replaced until my meal was nearly finished. Now let's talk food. I orders the steak and eggs. The eggs and toast (had to ask for butter) were perfect and the potatoes when they finally came out were good but had a bit too much sage for my liking. The steak lacked seasoning and was cut with the grain making an already tough cut very tough. Which is sad because it looked to be cooked a perfect med-rare. The chimichurri sauce was a weird choice for a breakfast steak and wasn't very good. They had no A1 steak sauce either so I ate a tough under-seasoned steak. Went to Newport for the 2025 OC Marathon and ended up going to Breakfast Republic the day before the run -- food, service, ambiance all on outstanding!!! The place was so good that we ended up going the next day after the marathon for a second round!!! Our server Katie who waited on us Saturday was super helpful, she made some great suggestions, and provided overall top-notch service. We wanted to sit in her area on Sunday when we went back with the whole family but she didn't have any large open tables so we ended up siting in James' section. We were bummed, but James was also awesome and we were equally stoked on day 2... Food, service, dinks... I think we tried most everything in the menu (and made a few changes to the standard configuration, but Katie and James were super cool about not even flinching despite being so busy).
