My bf and I have been to Outpost twice now and loved it both times. We've only been on Saturdays, prob one of their busiest days, but we still managed to get a table without reservation each time. Outdoor seatings are popular and usually very loud if they have large groups, we opted for inside today. Emily was our server, and she was super nice and awesome! Honestly, if people don't come here for the food, I would come here for the service because everyone is so nice! I love their food here, ingredients are fresh and their coffee and matcha are delish! I had my matcha both unsweetened and sweetened a bit and they were so good! We have our favs, like the protein bowl, steak, Super Bowl, avocado toast, and Aussie scramble, which we tried for the first time today just to support Oscar Piastri wining Pole position again in a race (Sprint Qatar today!!). I'm extremely disappointed by my experience at Outpost Kitchen. I ordered the Protein Power Bowl, and it was extremely, extremely salty--so salty that I simply could not eat it. It honestly tasted like I was having a spoonful of soy sauce. I told the server it was overwhelmingly salty and that I couldn't eat it. The restaurant did allow me to order a replacement meal, which I appreciated. What really upset me was what happened afterward. A gentleman who I later learned was the owner/chef came to my table. I initially thought he might be coming over to apologize or acknowledge that the dish simply wasn't to my liking. Instead, he told me, "I just wanted to say that we do not use salt or soy sauce in your dish." I explained that I was simply describing how the food tasted. I was never claiming to know the exact ingredients in their recipe. My point was that it was so salty it tasted like a spoonful of soy sauce. He explained that they use tamari, which I later learned is a soy-based seasoning and high in sodium. What I found particularly inappropriate was that he then suggested something might be wrong with my taste buds or that something I had eaten had caused me to perceive the food as salty. He looked at my table, where there was only water and coffee, and suggested that perhaps the coffee had triggered something in my mouth that made the food taste extremely salty. At that point, I simply said, "Okay, sorry, but whatever it was, it was extremely salty. I couldn't eat it." I wasn't arguing about the ingredients. I was simply explaining that I could not eat the dish. He also told me that no one had ever sent it back before. My replacement meal hadn't even arrived yet, and I was sitting with friends I hadn't seen in a very long time. Instead of feeling like my concern was being acknowledged, I felt questioned and made to defend my own taste. I wasn't making a scene or demanding anything unreasonable. Do I really need to know the exact ingredient in a dish to tell a restaurant that it is overwhelmingly salty? I was describing the taste, not claiming to know the recipe. I would have expected something as simple as, "I'm sorry you didn't enjoy it. Let me take care of that for you." Instead, there was no apology, and I actually found myself apologizing because I didn't want the interaction to ruin our long-awaited breakfast. I have honestly never experienced something like this at a restaurant before. The replacement meal was provided, which I appreciated, but the way the owner/chef handled the situation left a very bad impression. Customers should be able to say that a dish is too salty for them without being made to feel embarrassed, dismissed, or as though something is wrong with their taste. The hostess was nice and friendly and our server was great. The inside is nicely decorated. Very modern and chic. They have a variety of drinks: coffee, tea, smoothies, juices and cocktails. My dad has his coffee refilled and the servers were all very nice and attentive. We ordered the date mate salad, the blueberry pancakes and the eggs, sausage and avocado skillet. Everything was so delicious. I don't even like pancakes normally, and gluten free pancakes are even more of a turn off for me, but I saw a table next to us had it and they looked good so we ordered it. They weren't necessarily fluffy or cakey, but I wasn't mad. The combination of blueberry and lemon sauce and pistachios was exquisite. For $16 for two pancakes (or $20 for 4), it's a little on the pricey side, but I'd come back for these! The date mate salad was also surprisingly good. It had a LOT of chicken. My other friend ordered the ribeye and eggs and she left half her plate, the steak was the thinnest cut, more reminiscent of asada and while she ordered it medium it was very much well done, besides that the flavor didn't make up for the overcook so also a pass from her. I ordered the blueberry pancakes and millionaire bacon. The pancakes were the only star of the entire meal really nice flavor on the pancake itself and the sauces with the pistachio and blueberry toppings were a great accompaniment. The bacon however was flabby and not at all the quality I would expect from a restaurant. The staff when we were being helped were all kind but they scarcely checked up on us and based on where we were seated they didn't pass by often for us to be able to flag anyone down. This resulted in empty drinks the majority of the visit as well as us having to go inside to request the check.
