This is my go to place for comfort food. My friends and I ordered the famous dutch baby to share and I also got the Sante fe eggs Benedict. Everything was cooked to perfection and the staff were all very nice. Service was good and the restaurant itself was fairly clean. It's a great place to catch up with friends and chill. Would definitely recommend.
Wow! I can see why this place is so popular we finally tried it for the first time, and the breakfast food here does not disappoint. You have a choice of eating outdoors or inside. We were able to get seated quickly for a party of six, come early because after we got done eating there was a line already. Tons of parking and located in the corner area. The inside of the restaurant is very modern, and the service was good. The food was a burst of flavors and quite unique in form of presentation and taste. The Famous Dutch Baby was a major hit for our table, and the Lumberjack Stack was quite interesting as you get pulled pork in every pancake layer with crispy onions chips. The service was very attentive, we did not have to ask for refills they would just come by our table and start asking if we wanted more.
Dutch Baby: 4/5. Enjoyable. This was an item our table was looking forward to the most, and it delivered. We added berries for an extra $6 (without berries, it's $20), and it was worth it. This breakfast dish was tasty and comforting yet not heavy, and the berries provided refreshing flavors and textures. Hangover Burger: 2/5. Disappointing. I feel like for being called a "hangover" burger, it should've been very satisfying and had more of...well, everything XD The size of the burger and the portion of fries were both small, and the burger patty seemed dry and unseasoned. It could have used a sauce, some seasoning, a different cheese, or a juicy patty. The fries were yummy, but again, I just wished I got more for being part of the hefty $26 price tag. Despite our entrees being a little lackluster, the atmosphere is nice for a group brunch, and the interior is cool and trendy. Service was ok - a little slow, hard to flag down, and not as welcoming as I thought they'd be for a popular brunch restaurant. Parking in the small lot is tricky as it can fill up quickly during the day. Luckily we got there right when Plums Cafe opened at 8am, so there were lots of available spots.
Im sure you've heard about their ginormous cinnamon roll. We got the pumpkin spice seasonal one, and surprisingly, for such a huge dough, it was very moist. Best for larger groups because it is hefty and sweet. The breakfast I got was average, nothing special about the potatoes or sausage. Likely would try a new dish next time.
We came here on a weekend, maybe brunch-ish time? Thank god for reservations because goodness is this place hard to get into. Almost just as challenging as finding a parking spot. We were sat outside, which wasn't terrible because it's shaded but really maybe get some fly spinners for the tables outdoors? We ordered tons of food for two people. We asked the server for her advice on the pistachio latte- two which she gave her honest opinion, only if you REALLY like pistachio. Boy was she not kidding, it wasn't bad it just wasn't mixed throughout, because the concentrate was so settled at the bottom the top portion of the drink was mild only to find the bottom had not been mixed and that's where all the pistachio flavor was. The food overall was good, heavy, but good. Could have gotten by with ordering less. But we tried it and we know now how to gauge for next time.
The interior is cute modern with a bar. There's a big outdoor patio area with lots of seating. Our server was busy but managed to still be attentive and helpful if needed. We ordered the cinnamon roll latte that came with a small cinnamon roll on the side and the banana twist latte that came with honey rock candy. Both were pretty okay. The banana flavor was also lacking but they were presented nicely. We got their famous Dutch Baby that came with lemon syrup and powdered sugar with fresh berries and a nice crispy crust. Inside bottom layer kinda soggy. I got their sante fe eggs Benedict. That was tasty! Eggs were packed well and sauce was yummy. Slight spice. We got sides of shoestring fries (same as McDonald sized fries, not shoestring :( and the Plums potatoes which is just shredded potatoes similar to hash browns. Their hash browns were cooked amazing thought. Overall it was a decent experience. Bathrooms were also very clean.
I stopped by Plums Cafe after work and was pleasantly surprised by my breakfast. The restaurant was bustling and indoor and outdoor seating was filled with hungry patrons. The wait to sit wasn't too long. If you were interested, they do to-go orders too. For breakfast, I got the eggs and meat order with overeasy eggs and sausage. The sausage was my favorite part of the meal. The texture reminded me of Filipino longanisa and the actual taste of the sausage was so good!! I ordered hashbrowns instead of potatoes but was given potatoes. My server was so sweet about the mix-up. Next time I'm back, I'd like to try out the Dutch baby pancake with a side of sausage of course.
Oh my goodness..,I've been wanting to try this place for months. It did not disappoint. We were greeted by a lovely hostess. Very cute patio setting. The drinks (full bar) were superb. Our group visited Plums Cafe early in the morning, so it wasn't too busy when we went. All the food sounded so good that we had trouble deciding even with the help of Yelp pictures. We knew for sure we would be getting the Dutch baby to share, but it was the separate entrees we couldn't decide on. Our waitress was super patient while we went through the menu. Boysenberry, Bacon, and Brie Grilled Cheese - If you like boysenberry, this dish will not disappoint you. It was extremely generous with boysenberry jam on it. So much that I actually removed some to try with the Dutch baby. This works very well if you can do sweet and savory flavors together as the bacon brings out a bit of saltiness. Vietnamese Pork and Egg Bowl - My cousin ordered this so I only got a small bite. The pork was so soft and tender. I love grilled pork too, so this tasted amazing. Dutch Baby - We tried a bite of it plain. We like things more on the lighter side, so we were okay with how little sweetness it had. Then we squeezed lemon over it and added powdered sugar like our server recommended and man the lemon was the magic. It's like biting into two completely different things. As plain, it's like a soft and super thing pancake. With the lemon? It really brought out a strong citrus flavor complemented by something fluffy and light.

I tried the Vietnamese Pork & Egg bowl based on the online recommendations. It was beyond delicious! The pork is slow cooked to perfection. There is a good amount of fat but it has been prepared so that it melts in your mouth. The flavor is not overly sweet or over seasoned. It pairs well with the carrots and cilantro. I got mine over a bed of sautéed spinach. I am glad I did, considering the fat content. It came with sourdough. I usually don't care for bread with my meal. Except, they provide the most amazing berry jam and whipped butter. I thought about asking for more of the butter. I was excited to see that other patrons around me ordered the same thing. The service is relaxed and friendly. They were super busy on a weekday lunch. Their artwork is Pacific Northwest themed. There's a couple pictures of Oregon. I came here once before and tried just the sausage and eggs. I bragged about the breakfast sausage to other people. It's amazing. Also, great coffee with unlimited refills.

Tasty brunch vibes in the OC. Went for a Saturday brunch. Was super packed - make sure to make an RSVP beforehand. The vibe was pretty casual, but the food all looked very good. We came here for Mother's Day brunch expecting a nice experience, especially considering how popular this place is, but unfortunately it did not live up to the hype or the price point. For 3 people, the bill came out to almost $200, which would've been understandable if the food quality matched the cost -- but it really didn't. I ordered the steak medium rare, but it came out closer to medium and was very dry. On top of that, the kitchen absolutely overloaded it with garlic to the point where it completely overpowered the flavor of the meat. The potatoes on the side were also disappointing -- burnt, hard, and packed with way too much rosemary. All that disappointment for $55 dish! The atmosphere was busy and energetic for Mother's Day, which we expected, but the food itself felt rushed and inconsistent. For the prices they charge, I honestly expected much better execution and quality control. Overall, not the experience we hoped for, especially for a special occasion brunch. read more

We waited about 35-40 minutes on a Saturday for a party of 2. We ordered the shirred eggs, eggs benedict, and lemon blueberry pancakes. Everything was absolutely delicious and worth the hype in my opinion. Portions are HUGE. I want to come back for the giant cinnamon roll. The service was good despite the place being packed. We thought it wasn't going to be very good because of how big it was but it was fresh, hot, goey and crispy, great flavor. Ordered some biscuit meal and it was not very good. It was basically a stuffed biscuit with cheese, potato, bacon, and eggs. Way too much cheese on there. So much cheese that it kind of ruined the dish. I stopped by for breakfast early on a Sunday morning. I am sure it gets packed on the weekends, but fortunately we had an easy time getting a table at around 8:30am. Parking was easy with many open spots in the lot. There were plenty of options to choose from, but I decided to order the spinach and feta cheese omelette. In addition to the aged feta and sautéed spinach, it consisted of baby tomatoes and olives. It came with bread and I also opted to add a cup of berries. The omelette itself was very delicious. I like how this place allows you to make reservations for big parties! We came in as a group of 10 on Valentine's Day and we all enjoyed our food and drinks. Our waiter was very kind and funny. We got our orders quickly and the outdoor ambience felt relaxing. I wanted to try the Dutch Baby pancake and it was good but I would definitely add fruit next time. Service could be a lot better, both on the hostess end and server. Our server seemed a lot more attentive and kind to the table they were handling next to us. Hostess also just stared at us as we were leaving the restaurant, no "Thank you" or a simple "Have a nice day." There was no one waiting outside anymore at that point. I know it's extremely busy and overwhelming, but it didn't feel that welcoming despite how respectful and patient we were. I empathize with the pressure of such a busy work environment, but service should be equal and balanced to every table you serve, not solely towards customers who may be more high maintenance/expect more. It makes the customers who are understanding feel dismissed and unimportant. Food made up for it luckily and everything we ordered (Oregon Trail & Breakfast sandwich) tasted good. But overall experience was just ok. If you do come, definitely make a reservation if you can, gets very crowded. read more

I saw the hype about the two pound cinnamon roll on social media. I was skeptical - but i had to find out. I found out. Best cinnamon roll in California! Easily!!! I also found out that this is a gorgeous full service restaurant - not a bakery; that makes sense because this cinnamon roll is something you have to sit down to enjoy. They even serve it with a steak knife so you can cut through it without smashing it too much. The cinnamon roll is delightfully chewy and NOT overly 'doughey' - even tho there's a lot of dough. The dough-to-cinnamon ratio is perfect! So much cinnamon! - and sooo many layers, because they work hard to make the dough sections THIN - the = more surface for cinnamon! It is so worth it. But even two people couldn't finish it... The omelet was also good and the coffee was also on point. The cafe is beautiful and there must have been 60 people seated in the restaurant called Plums Cafe between the indoor and outdoor seating. OOOH! And i have to tell you this! They have one of the NICEST and coolest men's bathrooms I've ever seen. Picture excludes the urinal cuz that's just too much - but a cinnamon roll that good deserves to exist in a place with a. Wow. I was really impressed with this little breakfast restaurant down in Costa Mesa. I was visiting the area this past weekend from West LA and chose Plums because I had heard great things. I can confirm that it is really great and it was honestly better than I was expecting. What makes this place unique is that they have really unique menu items and everything is executed really well. It's in a small shopping center so there's plenty of free parking right out front and it's quite large on the inside. They have a lot of tables inside, and also have outdoor seating that is dog friendly. Our server was very polite and although the wait times are not as fast as a diner, we didn't have to wait very long for our items. I will say this is one of the best breakfasts that I've had this year, everything was seriously delicious. I started off with a Cinnamon Roll Latte and thought it was fantastic. It had great flavors and was pretty strong. Next we split the Giant Cinnamon Roll and it was amazing. It was way larger than I was expecting but somehow it was gooey and perfectly sweet throughout. It was not overly hard, or crunchy. For my breakfast I chose the Santa Fe Eggs Benedict Server Style, which means they swap out the ham for bacon and add avocado. This was absolutely fantastic. I especially liked the hollandaise, you can tell it was fresh and homemade and it had great flavoring. The eggs were also cooked perfectly and the bacon was unique and very peppery. It almost tasted like candy bacon it was that good. Overall a fantastic breakfast option and I would say it is one of my very favorite breakfast spots in all of Orange County. I would highly recommend to anyone in Orange County or even to anyone in Los Angeles or San Diego because it really is worth the drive. read more

I thought this place was overhyped but after coming here more than once, I'm realizing it's not! I've tried both their sweet and savory dishes and I've enjoyed everything I've gotten (top picks: French toast, eggs Benedict, skillet eggs). They have a large portion so my friends are I typically share. What I really commend them for is their excellent service and how knowledgeable they are about what's vegetarian friendly. Also our server saw I was Muslim and informed us of which items had meat which I super appreciated. It does get busy so I recommend trying to come between 9-10 am to avoid the brunch/lunch rush. There are plenty of small tables of seats indoors and outdoors. I think they can also seat larger groups but I would recommend calling in. read more

Bottom Line Up Front: Plums Cafe is one of my favorite upscale (or as upscale as you can get for a) breakfast joints. The Food: We have been here several times and the food never disappoints. However, this review will focus on our most recent order: crab omelette. It was delicious. It comes with asparagus, dill, and hollandaise sauce. We selected the potatoes as the side instead of tomatoes and upgraded the toast to rosemary cheddar scone. The Setting: The restaurant itself offers a relaxed atmosphere that's clean and modern, with decent space between tables despite being a not-that-large establishment. There is plenty of outdoor seating, which is more ideal for larger parties. Note: Plums is located in a small strip mall with a small parking lot with small parking stalls. During the weekend when it's packed, olks with SUVs and minivans will have difficulty sliding in and even harder time opening your door to get out. The Service: The entire staff is warm, friendly, and quite helpful. Grade A training from management. The Complaint: For the first time after several visits, we actually have a reason to gripe. Our scone had a hair that appeared to be baked into it. Not sure if they're made in house or purchased from a vendor, but it kind of ruined our breakfast, which was for our wedding anniversary celebration. Our server was apologetic and got us a new scone, but I was a little disappointed she didn't give us a complimentary dessert or a discount on our bill to make it up to us. The Conclusion: Plums is a fantastic breakfast place and -- aside from the slightly higher prices and the one hair incident -- will be our go-to spot for special occasions. read more

The service was over the top as they got right over to us took our order and shortly our food arrived. The food was great. The insides are nice and a lot of friendly people. Lovely service and it was packed at 9am on Sunday. Definitely recommend reservations because we only got seated thanks to a no-show reservation. Parking is decent and dogs were allowed in the patio. The dutch baby is just like the one at The Original Pancake House which is also delicious and very filling. They came out quickly and offered plenty of syrup and powdered sugar. They offer Rishi with a cute cast iron teapot if you want hot tea. Overall, a little noisy but lovely place to have brunch. Lots of boutiques in the area too. read more

I am extremely disappointed and outraged by this restaurant. It was the only place open on Thanksgiving in the area, and we were actually excited to dine here. But what happened afterward was shocking. They discriminated against Asians. They didn't give us water or plates--nothing was provided unless we specifically asked for it. We ordered the Dutch Baby with berries, but what they served was completely plain. When we asked the server where the berries were, she brought us an extremely small portion of fruit, and didn't even give us any syrup. Later she asked if everything was okay--I said of course not--and she said she would "add a little more fruit." I also ordered orange juice. Every other table received a normal-sized glass, while I was given a tiny one. Only after I asked why it was so small did she bring me a larger glass. When we checked out, they charged me $10 for that one glass of orange juice. You might as well just rob people at that point--should I be grateful you at least gave me a cup of juice? Their attitude was terrible from beginning to end. We hadn't even finished eating when they came over and started clearing our plates, clearly trying to rush us out. Please, do NOT come to this restaurant. Their behavior is absolutely disgusting. read more

Plums is one of the best brunch spots in OC. The food is creative, fun, and always delicious. According to my husband, they also have the best cinnamon roll he has ever had. Fun fact: if you ask, you can try their cinnamon roll challenge. You have 30 minutes to finish their massive cinnamon roll on your own. If you succeed, you win a fun free T shirt. My husband actually won the challenge, which made the whole experience even more memorable. The cinnamon roll is enormous and definitely big enough to share with the table. Next time we go back he wants to order it again, but without the time limit so we can enjoy it together. I ordered the salmon breakfast dish and it was superb. Everything tasted fresh and well prepared. If you go, make it fun and try the cinnamon roll challenge, or simply order the cinnamon roll to share. Either way, you will not regret it. read more

Not sure if we hit them on a weird day or if it just did not live up to the hype for us, but that latte might be the only thing I go back for. I ended up ordering the Hangover Burger, even though it sounds funny at a brunch spot, but it actually was pretty good. The burger itself was cooked perfectly medium rare, super flavorful, runny egg, bacon, good onions, all that. I paired it with their hash browns and that part was kind of a bummer. Hash browns were soggy, not crispy, which is the whole point of hash browns. I had to throw ketchup on there just to revive it a little. My biggest complaint though is the English muffin they use as the bun. Nah. It got soggy right away, fell apart, especially with the egg. It just does not work as a burger bun. If they switched it to a regular bun, that burger would be way better. I would order it again, but it is not something that would make me say we need to come back here. Now the thing everyone talks about is the Plums Famous Dutch Baby. This thing comes out looking insane. Like five inches tall, huge, full of berries, looks like a masterpiece. Then you take a bite and it is literally just a giant dough ball with no flavor. We literally had to ask the waitress how you are supposed to eat it because we were so confused. She told us to use the berries, squeeze lemon all over it, then sprinkle powdered sugar on top. Once we did that, it was actually good. But by itself? Not it. It tricks you with the looks for sure. My wife's experience was rough too. They messed up her food three separate times even though we clearly asked for scrambled eggs. Each time it came back wrong. The waitress was super sweet and apologetic, but they never comped anything which was kind of surprising after three mistakes. The one thing that absolutely slapped though was the banana twist latte. Full 10/10. Perfect sweetness, great banana flavor without being fake, still tasted like coffee, plus the little rock candy on top was a fun touch. Overall Plums Cafe was good, not great. We stopped by for brunch on Saturday and it was busy (as expected) but our wait was only about 20 minutes. This location is in a small strip center so be prepared for very limited parking. We sat on the patio and as we were walking to our table, we noticed several parties enjoying the popular giant cinnamon roll. It looked delicious, but we opted to pass this time. Our server was nice and attentive. We ordered the Boysenberry, Bacon & Brie Grilled Cheese Sandwich and Tuscan Chicken Sandwich, both with fries. The Boysenberry, Bacon & Brie Grilled Cheese Sandwich was spectacular. Sourdough isn't typically my first choice of bread, but this bread was perfectly grilled and packed with so much flavor, each bite melted in my mouth. Highly recommend. The Tuscan Chicken Sandwich came on a baguette and was drier than expected so I think a little more pesto would've helped. The onion dipping sauce that came with the fries won us over. It somehow tasted like a really smoky BBQ sauce to me, which is why I finished both ramekins. More please! We also tried the Lavender Dream Lemon Drop. I felt the lavender flavor was nonexistent. It just tasted like triple sec and no sugar rim was provided. I'd skip this one next time, but their house lemonade was really refreshing and tart. This review is for their gigantuous cinnamon bun and their breakfast burrito. My first time at plums cafe about 10 years ago wasn't Yelp worthy. I remember the cinnamon bun being mediocre and dry. But I recently returned and attempted it again and it was the total opposite! Warm, gooey and sweet, it was dessert for breakfast. Not to mention the size of the bun was bigger than Sasquatch's head. I ordered the breakfast burrito as my main. They grill the burrito so it keeps its formation and add a light crunch as you bite into the halved burrito. There is this creamy cheese sauce they add and it binds the eggs, rice and tortillas very...VERY well. Not one morsel fell from the burrito! The crispy potatoes on the side gave a delightful crunch. I believe they make their ketchup in house so dip dip away! I also loved the robust, savory salsa sauces that comes with this burrito dish. Reviewing this food item is actually making me crave it again! Service could have been better. We came on a weekday and had reservations for 7 but when we arrived 10 mins early, they informed us that they gave our table away to another group and they were waiting for that group to leave ...? They quickly made up another table for us but the restaurant patio wasnt even half full so I didn't appreciate the lack of thought in our reservation. read more

We went on Mother's Day and unfortunately they didn't have regular menu. They had Mother's day brunch menus which we didn't feel the value in. We ordered the hangover burger with fries. The fries had too much parsley and that's all we could taste. Burger was solid just wasn't expecting to pay $55 for the meal plus a drink and a cookie. I ordered the berry waffle which was good like a standard waffle not a $45 waffle. Our daughter ordered the famous Dutch baby which was really good, she did say some of the berries tasted like they were starting to go bad but that was only a couple. It was flavorful. FYI berries aren't included, we had to pay an additional $6. Most of the food was ok. We got there early and got seated very quickly. Seems like a nice place and everyone was friendly. Took my lively wife and daughter to enjoy a nice breakfast. It's been a long time since i have been to plums and it did not disappoint. We all truly enjoyed our meals and the service was great. It packed out quite fast, but still very pleasant and clean. Breakfast is my favorite meal of the day, so i look forward to place like Plums. I appreciate good service. Even once it became a full house, they still served us well. You can see the food, and while i don't suggest a single person eat that whole roll, it was very tasty. Highly recommended. read more
