One of the coffees that truly surprised me was the Mint Mojito Coffee at Philz Coffee. Most coffee shops differ in things like bean quality, milk, or how strong the coffee is. But the Mint Mojito Coffee is in a completely different league. It's unlike anything I've ever had. If there were a Philz Coffee closer to my house, I would honestly buy it every single day. It's easily one of my all-time favorite coffees. The Philz Coffee across from South Coast Plaza in Costa Mesa can get pretty busy, so parking isn't always easy during peak hours. Luckily, you can order ahead on the mobile app and simply pick it up. My favorite part is taking that very first sip while it's freshly handcrafted before putting the lid back on. That first taste always makes me happy. The friend I brought with me ignored my recommendation and ordered a cold brew instead. After a few minutes, I convinced them to try just one sip of my Mint Mojito Coffee... and that was the last sip I got. They loved it so much that they practically claimed the rest of my drink. The staff are friendly, and while there isn't a lot of indoor seating if you're planning to work on your laptop, there is a nice patio where you can sit and relax. I love stopping at Philz whenever I travel to California. I was introduced to them back in the day when I was chilling in San Francisco. I love the quality of their beans. I was driving from Newport to Huntington Beach and came across this location in Costa Mesa. The store is a little hidden from the main road and not very spacious. But the drinks and customer service were great as always. I went in wanting to try something new, but defaulted as always to my longtime favorite Ice Mint Mojito. Phil Jaber founded Philz Coffee in 2003 and spent years experimenting with various coffee beans from around the world to create over 30 different unique blends. Each "cup of love" is custom made in front of you and finished off with their signature mint leave. The Philz baristas make sure your drink is to your liking before you pay. One thing that is unique about Phiz is that they don't do lattes or cappuccinos. The Mint Mojito Iced Coffee is their best seller and still my personal favorite. There is plenty of seating, which makes it easy to stay for a while, and the customer service has always been good. My favorites are the iced Mint Mojito and Honey Haze. I also like their pastries. I tried the vegan option and it was good, but not something I would order again, while their butter croissant is usually very good. I did have one unfortunate experience where I found a hair in my pastry. I immediately called the location to share what happened, and they took care of the situation right away, which really shows that they care about what they offer to their customers. I was already at work, otherwise I would have gone back, but everything was handled professionally over the phone. I waited a while for her to acknowledge me and even when I walked up she had a bad attitude. I only asked for a clear cup and told me with a snarky voice "it's only for the matcha, I don't make the rules" like, you couldn't simply just give me or hell, SELL me a clear cup? I don't mind the fact that she wouldn't have been able to give me the cup, that's not big deal (though I hate when companies do this. For my first time I decided on trying their iced oatmeal cookie coffee and it was perfect. I asked for their lowest possible sweetness and it was just right. Also tried their egg bites and they are so much better than the ones from Starbucks. The only downside was that it was a bit of a longer wait time to get my drinks-but it was a busy Friday morning around 7:45 am. Happy to say I've officially visited all the Philz locations in the OC area! Since Philz originated in the Bay Area, I love supporting every location whenever I can. Each store has its own unique vibe, and some even offer slightly different menu items. This particular spot is spacious, located near South Coast Plaza, and--bonus--it's not inside the mall. Parking is easy and convenient, if you want to order ahead or pick up quickly. They indoor and outdoor seating. This location tends to get busy probably because it's by the mall and John Wayne Airport, so I recommend ordering through the app. You can grab your drink at the counter without waiting in line. Plus, you get a complimentary upgrade when you download the app for the first time, and you can start earning rewards right away. They also rotate seasonal drinks. I'm still hoping they bring back the Spiced Vanilla Soul--I tried it here and it was so good: smooth cold brew topped with little bits of cinnamon. I also remember getting a burrito here. It was a decent size and tasted pretty good; the hot sauce definitely made it better. If you're hungry and want a quick snack, it does the job. During my visit, it seemed they were having some sort of technical issue with their iPad registers, so there was a slight delay in taking our orders. It might also have been due to the steady flow of mobile orders, which kept the baristas constantly on their feet, preparing the next coffee. The coffee shop has a surprising amount of seating, both in open areas and tucked away in small nooks. However, every seat was taken that Wednesday afternoon. Spacious interior with plenty of seating. Outdoor patio right across the street from South Coast Plaza. Huge parking structure with 2 hour validation! Passcode for the restroom is posted by the register, and the employee will validate for you up there as well. Also, this location is hands down quicker at getting their drinks out than the fullerton location due to a larger format with more staff members working, which is a plus! Really good coffee. Really good service. But really pathetic seating for someone in a wheelchair. It's just facts. All of your stools sit way higher than a wheelchair would sit. So try sitting at a lower level like a wheelchair to get an idea and see if you're comfortable. Your tables come up to my chest. I feel like a little kid at the adult table at Thanksgiving. It's not. I would really like to sit inside and enjoy my beverage, but I can't. But good coffee. The fix is so simple. Sure, there are lowered tables outside. But sometimes the weather isn't good to sit outside. If you could get a table like one of the outside tables, that is the same level on the inside, there's your solution. As an Uber Eats driver, I frequent this location a lot. Every time I've picked up orders from here, I am waiting for atleast 5 minutes with no acknowledgment from staff. Today, in particular, as I entered the cafe, a staff member smiled at me but did not offer assistance. It wasn't until a few conversing staff members made their way from the stock room to the front, that I was acknowledged and that happened minutes after they came to the front. Their backs were turned and they proceeded to handle their own tasks instead of prioritizing their customers. I also noticed the line was getting backed up and patrons also did not receive assistance from some time. Please acknowledge those who need service. It can impact someone's schedule.
