One of the coffees that truly surprised me was the Mint Mojito Coffee at Philz Coffee. Most coffee shops differ in things like bean quality, milk, or how strong the coffee is. But the Mint Mojito Coffee is in a completely different league. It's unlike anything I've ever had. If there were a Philz Coffee closer to my house, I would honestly buy it every single day. It's easily one of my all-time favorite coffees. The Philz Coffee across from South Coast Plaza in Costa Mesa can get pretty busy, so parking isn't always easy during peak hours. Luckily, you can order ahead on the mobile app and simply pick it up. My favorite part is taking that very first sip while it's freshly handcrafted before putting the lid back on. That first taste always makes me happy. The friend I brought with me ignored my recommendation and ordered a cold brew instead. After a few minutes, I convinced them to try just one sip of my Mint Mojito Coffee... and that was the last sip I got. They loved it so much that they practically claimed the rest of my drink. The staff are friendly, and while there isn't a lot of indoor seating if you're planning to work on your laptop, there is a nice patio where you can sit and relax. It's a great spot to catch up with friends over an amazing cup of coffee. If you're visiting Philz for the first time, do yourself a favor and order the Mint Mojito Coffee. I love stopping at Philz whenever I travel to California. I was introduced to them back in the day when I was chilling in San Francisco. I love the quality of their beans. I was driving from Newport to Huntington Beach and came across this location in Costa Mesa. The store is a little hidden from the main road and not very spacious. But the drinks and customer service were great as always. I went in wanting to try something new, but defaulted as always to my longtime favorite Ice Mint Mojito. Phil Jaber founded Philz Coffee in 2003 and spent years experimenting with various coffee beans from around the world to create over 30 different unique blends. Each "cup of love" is custom made in front of you and finished off with their signature mint leave. The Philz baristas make sure your drink is to your liking before you pay. One thing that is unique about Phiz is that they don't do lattes or cappuccinos. The Mint Mojito Iced Coffee is their best seller and still my personal favorite. Honestly, this is truly such a great place to stop by get a tea or pastry. Love the drinks and love the food. Although I mainly go for tea right now and my family likes the food and sometimes coffee drinks. The pastries are really quite tasty. They have great coffee sticks which I might try next time too. I waited a while for her to acknowledge me and even when I walked up she had a bad attitude. I only asked for a clear cup and told me with a snarky voice "it's only for the matcha, I don't make the rules" like, you couldn't simply just give me or hell, SELL me a clear cup? I don't mind the fact that she wouldn't have been able to give me the cup, that's not big deal (though I hate when companies do this. Over little things such as freaking clear cup LOL) But the fact that she had such a shitty attitude from the get go, that's VERY disappointing. Hire better people Philz. For my first time I decided on trying their iced oatmeal cookie coffee and it was perfect. I asked for their lowest possible sweetness and it was just right. Also tried their egg bites and they are so much better than the ones from Starbucks. The only downside was that it was a bit of a longer wait time to get my drinks-but it was a busy Friday morning around 7:45 am. Parking can be tight and the wait for your order can also be a bit longer. Next time I will order ahead on their app. Also they do not offer any type of rewards at the moment. Happy to say I've officially visited all the Philz locations in the OC area! Since Philz originated in the Bay Area, I love supporting every location whenever I can. Each store has its own unique vibe, and some even offer slightly different menu items. This particular spot is spacious, located near South Coast Plaza, and--bonus--it's not inside the mall. Parking is easy and convenient, if you want to order ahead or pick up quickly. They indoor and outdoor seating. This location tends to get busy probably because it's by the mall and John Wayne Airport, so I recommend ordering through the app. You can grab your drink at the counter without waiting in line. Plus, you get a complimentary upgrade when you download the app for the first time, and you can start earning rewards right away. They also rotate seasonal drinks. I'm still hoping they bring back the Spiced Vanilla Soul--I tried it here and it was so good: smooth cold brew topped with little bits of cinnamon. I also remember getting a burrito here. It was a decent size and tasted pretty good; the hot sauce definitely made it better. If you're hungry and want a quick snack, it does the job. As an Uber Eats driver, I frequent this location a lot. Every time I've picked up orders from here, I am waiting for atleast 5 minutes with no acknowledgment from staff. Today, in particular, as I entered the cafe, a staff member smiled at me but did not offer assistance. It wasn't until a few conversing staff members made their way from the stock room to the front, that I was acknowledged and that happened minutes after they came to the front. Their backs were turned and they proceeded to handle their own tasks instead of prioritizing their customers. I LOVE all things Philz coffee. My 3 star review is not the quality of the coffee but the quality of the service I received here. I frequent the Orange location often and that place is perfection! They are kind, welcoming, and very helpful. This branch was not the same. The baristas were short, they didn't give eye contact when interacting with their customers. It also took so long to be helped when ordering. I was the only person in line and it took almost 3 minutes to get my order started. During my visit, it seemed they were having some sort of technical issue with their iPad registers, so there was a slight delay in taking our orders. It might also have been due to the steady flow of mobile orders, which kept the baristas constantly on their feet, preparing the next coffee. The coffee shop has a surprising amount of seating, both in open areas and tucked away in small nooks. However, every seat was taken that Wednesday afternoon. Really good coffee. Really good service. But really pathetic seating for someone in a wheelchair. It's just facts. All of your stools sit way higher than a wheelchair would sit. So try sitting at a lower level like a wheelchair to get an idea and see if you're comfortable. Your tables come up to my chest. I feel like a little kid at the adult table at Thanksgiving. It's not. I would really like to sit inside and enjoy my beverage, but I can't. But good coffee. The fix is so simple. Sure, there are lowered tables outside. But sometimes the weather isn't good to sit outside. If you could get a table like one of the outside tables, that is the same level on the inside, there's your solution. Spacious interior with plenty of seating. Outdoor patio right across the street from South Coast Plaza. Huge parking structure with 2 hour validation! Passcode for the restroom is posted by the register, and the employee will validate for you up there as well. Also, this location is hands down quicker at getting their drinks out than the fullerton location due to a larger format with more staff members working, which is a plus! I usually like to hit up moms and pops but have added Philz to my coffee rotation. I like the Philtered Soul which has hints of hazelnut maple and caramel, unsweetened, and medium cream. I have to admit, I need to branch out and try other coffees on their menu. When something is already so perfect, it's hard for me to try something else I order by app and pick it up before 7:00am so parking is not an issue.
