Yu Cake is an upscale dessert shop located just outside the Saks Fifth Avenue front entrance on the lower level of South Coast Plaza. Prices are expensive but the cakes are refined and delicious. They make excellent mille crepe cakes (as good as Lady M, seriously!) and they are available in many flavors. Shown in the picture here is my top favorite - the Tiramisu. Matcha and hazelnut chocolate are also very good. Their newest additions are yogurt mille crepe cakes, which I have yet to try - which give me good reasons to come back and indulge myself again! There are plenty of fruity teas to go with your dessert such as peach, strawberry, grapefruit, and my favorite, lychee. The teas all have bits and pieces of real fruits in them, which make the tea very refreshing.

Give a blonde curly hair in the cake yesterday. The staff was really polite & asked if we want to trade it in for a new one or grab another cake. We traded it in as the strawberry matcha cake looked better than it tasted - we got the tiramisu which tasted a lot better. Creamy but not airy as we would've liked. Ample tables & chairs outside & inside. They've a lot of cute cakes but it's a one-time for me.

I was excited to try this place since the pictures of the cakes looked really good. This is located right next to Saks, and there's both indoor seating as well as seats outside the store in the main mall. Overall, was quite disappointed since the cake flavors were not strong at all. I got the hazelnut cake and the yogurt matcha and both flavors were very subtle. Good thing is the cakes were not too sweet, but there really wasn't much kick to it either. The yogurt matcha had more yogurt taste and really no matcha. The hazelnut itself also didnt have a strong hazelnut flavor. For the price (each were about $10 for the slice) and what you get, not worth.

Stopped by while shopping at South Coast Plaza for their Mango Grapefruit cake, which is apparently one of their most popular cakes. It was delicious and not too sweet! The fruit tasted fresh on top and the cream/cake below was soft and smooth-- almost like tiramisu.

Mango milk latte amazing: strong mango flavor and sweetness can be adjusted. I also recommend Watermelon tea and Soybean Coffee. Their egg sandwiches have corn: you can give it with imitation crab (labeled as seafood) or ham. The ham egg is better. Service is fast, but very unfriendly and upset or bored. The store needs elevator music or any kind of ambiance sound. I will come back to try desserts

Was at the mall and wanted a small sweet treat so found this place. Right off the bat the prices are a bit high for most pastries. I wanted to try the mango mousse cake but it was sold,so I settled with the matcha mousse for 10$. Overall it tasted alright, nice mousse texture, not overly sweet, matcha had a nice flavor but I don't think I'll be coming back though.

It's a cute cafe located right next to Saks on the bottom floor. There are various options for cakes, puddings, and drinks. Service is quick. Cafe itself is clean and is a nice place to study or chat. The pastries itself? Disappointing. Looking at the flavors, they were all so unique and interesting. I wanted to try them all! But when I did try them, I was left with the feeling that I was not going to return at all. What we got: - Tiramisu latte (3.5/5): It was meh. Not that memorable. Just your standard latte with some tiramisu type of foam. - Lychee Rose Crepe Cake (2/5): Man I was so looking forward to this. But I literally could not taste any rose, and lychee flavor was there too I guess? For a cake, it really even lacked sweetness to it. I know this is preferable when you pair it with a drink. However, for the price, I really wished that it taste like anything. - Mango Grapefruit Coconut Pudding (3/5): This one had more flavor, but still somehow kinda bland? The fruit lacked any sweetness or tartness. I only knew it was there because of the texture.

We decided to stop by and grabs some cakes and drinks because it looked so pretty and delicious. Well, the cake cost $11 a slice but it tasted more like $1. It tasted so cheap that we couldn't even finish them. It's not just the taste that was cheap, but they wouldn't even give a us a cup of water when we asked when we had purchased 2 cakes and 3 drinks. Don't waste your money.

Yu Cakes is located inside South Coast Plaza and right across from Macy's Men. I came to Yu Cakes to try out their Mille Crepe Cakes. Inside the dessert shop was nicely designed and clean, and gave a luxury feel. I got three slices: matcha, hazelnut and tiramisu. And here is my breakdown of these three cakes: 1) Matcha Mille Crepe: The crepe cake lacked sweetness and felt a bit bland. I could definitely taste the matcha, but it didn't have a strong tea flavor or any sweetness to it. The cake felt dense and I could not feel the texture of the crepe layers. It felt like I was eating a mousse cake, but not as dense as a cheesecake, but it was definitely close to it. 2) Hazelnut Mille Crepe Cake: This cake was sweeter, but it had the same issue. Felt dense and could not feel the texture or layers of the crepe, felt more like a mousse cake. 3) Tiramisu Mille Crepe Cake: This cake was probably the best out of the three. I'm not sure what they did this one, but I could actually feel like I was eating a mille crepe cake. Flavor was good and I can actually taste and feel the layers of the crepe cakes. Also these mille crepe cakes are not cheap and are on the more expensive side at $11 to $12 a slice. I do share in the same opinion that customer service isn't at the top here, the staff don't seem to greet you as you enter. What is one big positive, I would day is they have a great variety of flavors for their mille crepe cakes and they do have other types of cakes. It's unfortunate as I expected a lot more from here given the price point and it seems they fall short. Overall, it wasn't the best mille crepe cake I have had, but if you want to try, get their tiramisu mille crepe cake if I had to recommend something, but I don't think it was that amazing that I'd personally come back.

These reviews are def paid. took a bite of each and couldn't eat it no more. cake price is too high and not worth it

Taste of food. There was not quality of taste considering how expensive it was. please focus on the taste instead of ambiance

I'm a dessert person and I know I'm in a good dessert shop when I struggle to make a choice. This place had SO many kinds of cheesecake and some interesting boxed desserts. I love floral flavors and berries so I struggled to choose between rose cheesecake, rose/oolong milk based boxed dessert, and a blueberry cheesecake. I ended up going with the rose cheesecake - it was dense but really good! They had SO many other flavors that also looked amazing too, and plenty of seating/little tables right there in the store so you can eat or take your cake to go (comes in a cute little box). Would absolutely come here again if near south coast plaza and wanting dessert - it's an adorable little shop!

When we ordered the cinnamon roll, there was no option to heat it up, so we thought they would have done it already. When it was served, it was rock solid. So, we asked them to heat it up. However, after a few minutes, it still wasn't that gooey and the inner core was still pretty tough. Perhaps they could have warmed it up so that it was evenly softened. Overall, the cinnamon roll was alright. It was a brioche roll so you would think it might be lighter and fluffy, but ours was pretty dry. However, the cream on top was insanely good. It carried the roll. The hazelnut twist was kind of what you would expect. A twisted pastry but with a hefty amount of hazelnut-chocolate spread thru the layers. We sat in a little nook, where there was a magnetic black board, where there were word tiles you could rearrange in any way. It was a nice place to just look around at all the sentences the community wrote. Chess tables were also available as extra seating. Overall, the service was good, but could be better when warming up pastries, so that the customer can enjoy them properly!

The location of…read morethis well-known Japanese/French bakery was unusual in that it's isolated in a corner of the El Camino Plaza. I had expected the business to be in a more high volume area, however a benefit of their corner spot was that the parking lot had plenty of spaces. There's no indoor seating, but outdoor tables were set up along the north and east perimeters of the building. I was by myself at this latest visit, and it was close to the end of the day so the inventory was quite depleted. There was no line at all which was not a surprise. The famous Strawberry Croissants and prepackaged items were on refrigerated display to the left when you walked in. As the service counter rounded a corner, there were more fresh baked goods on display before you reached a register. Across from the registers were shelves containing bags of fresh bread products. I bought a Strawberry Croissant, a Sticky Bun, a Ham and Cheese Croissant, and an Apple Croissant. The quality of the pastry dough was very good, and I could see why the Strawberry Croissant was a favorite with the customers. The croissants were light and flakey, and the powdered sugar added a delicate topping to the strawberry version. If I were to rate on just the Strawberry Croissant, then it would be five stars. My overall rating was downgraded because of the customer traffic flow. The lines can be optimized so that if you wanted to buy a six-pack of the Strawberry Croissants and/or anything prepackaged, then a separate queue should be arranged for those customers. The cafeteria trays were of limited use if you were not getting a large number of items. As you advanced in the queue, other products had to be requested from a worker behind the counter and then those were not placed on the tray. Ultimately, I think they can configure the operation to more efficiently handle the higher volume periods of the day.

A month ago we started milling our own flour at home and realized how hard it is, and how short the shelf life is, which made us appreciate Eller even more! Recently we came in for breakfast (which runs us $100+ for a family of 4) and asked Mickey (the guy in charge up front) if ALL of their pastries use fresh milled flour to which he responded "Yes everything uses fresh milled flour. This is the healthiest place you'll eat." Something was weird the way he said it though...he sounded almost defensive. Then we were eating outside and we saw a bunch of 25lb bags of flour stacked inside through the window. Obviously those were not fresh milled (and they didnt even say organic). Something smelled off. The next week we came in again, this time we were determined to get answers. We asked the cashier when they run the giant flour mill that's displayed next to the register. He said usually at night, but it wasn't working right now. Then we asked if they use 100% fresh milled flour in their pastries, to which he replied "Yes, everything up here uses freshly milled flour." Hmmmm. Then we asked if the mill isn't working, how are they getting all the fresh milled flour? He started stuttering, thinking what to say, then said they get the flour from someone else who's milling it for them. Oh ok... Then we asked about the giant stack of 25lb bags of flour sitting behind him, and he starting stuttering even more, then finally said "Well...not everything uses fresh milled flour. There are some changes going on right now. Only the items that say 'Heritage' use fresh flour" (which was 3 of the 12 or so items on display). We asked if these were short term changes and if they would go back to fresh milled flour to which he replied "No, these changes are permanent. That's all I can say right now. Sorry." So....TWO different employees lied to us about the ingredients they're using. Obviously the 2nd person had been coached on what to say. Now we are wondering how long this has been going on, and if they were ever using 100% fresh milled flour?!? I don't know what's going on at this place but, when it comes to food, honesty and transparency are MANDATORY. Had they been upfront about this I wouldn't have come to write this review. But if you're going to lie to customers faces, especially ones who have promoted you over the years, well, here's your review. Fingers crossed they wake up and start being honest with the people supporting them.

I could go on and on about them... seriously. This time we had to come try their collab with Cake Picnic, which was the golden hour grey donut. Let me tell you, it was bomb.com. The orange flavor was phenomenal and I have no notes. We also got the strawberry donut and hot chocolate with almond milk, both obviously very good as well. It was my first time getting the hot chocolate and I was honestly surprised with how yummy it was. It was not too chocolatey and not too milky. It was the perfect balance and the perfect pairing with the donuts.

Truly the only way to eat churros- enjoying the simplicity of the light and airy crunch pastry and the rich bitter-sweet chocolate. We stopped by the location at the Mercado Market- the place was amazing and truly worth a visit. The stall was located across the market's bakery. You have a view of the people cooking the churros and preparing your order. Given that the stall in inside the market, it was vibrant and lively. I would pick up lunch at the market, grab churros and hot cocoa or coffee for dessert at El Moro and then shop at the market and bring home more goodies!

The people were friendly and the Churros were delicious! Fast forward to today 5/5/26....haven visited for a while but what happened? All the friendly experts are gone. The people working there don't know what they are doing at all, the line was relatively short, about 4 people in front of me, but somehow it took longer than it did before. I placed my order with sugar only, no cinnamon, like I have since I was a child. The person at the window calls my name and hands me a bag, I check the churros they have cinnamon, I explained that I ordered with sugar only. She rolls her eyes and hands me another bag with plain/naked churros, no sugar. I again explain to her that I ordered churros with sugar but without cinnamon. She "dumps" the churros out of the bag into the sugar, breaking one of them, I asked her to replace the broken one, I again get attitude and flips me off when she thinks I'm not looking. This is not the service I am used to from Le Moro or Northgate. I do have to say that every other employee of the store was helpful and friendly, but employees at El Moro need additional training. I wonder if all the good ones were pulled to their new location in LA. I will have to find out, even if I have to drive you won't see me standing in line at this El Moro again. It's a shame that such a wonderful jewel brought from Mexico is not being managed to their reputation. Sad

Parking lot is small with the post office and a handful of other businesses all sharing the same few spaces. So be prepared to circle the lot or park on the street and walk when you visit. I ordered a 9 inch ham with provolone, had lettuce, tomato, sprouts, mustard and mayo on the fresh baguette. Solid sandwich it had enough meat and cheese to satisfy me which was a little surprising. The baguette was light and tasty, the veggies were fresh and crisp. Overall the sandwich was a solid 9 out of 10, and I am something of a sandwich snob. Tables and chairs outside in the area between the buildings were convenient seating to eat our sandwiches. I'm very impressed and will definitely return the next time I am in the area and looking for a sandwich.

Service was fast & friendly throughout the visit. I ordered the chicken curry salad & was a little underwhelmed. The flavor itself was good, but it could have used more dressing and definitely more chicken. The Thai tea was really tasty though. Overall, still interested in coming back to try the sandwiches and baked goods since those looked especially promising.
