Wow. Phenomenal service felt welcomed to try all the flavors if I wanted! Had the seasonal flavor with huckleberry oat on a waffle cone. Dear son got strawberry coconut water sherbert! Only a couple benches outside. Would be five stars if there was tables and chairs to sit.
This location is wonderful! The sweet server who helped us was so incredibly patient and thoughtful, suggesting so many flavors because we didn't like any of them... She helped me narrow it down to the safe lavender and honey, which is so delicious! Of course salt and straw is known for their crazy flavors, but chewing bread in chocolate ice cream was a new one for me. The inside is super clean and minimal, but there is no seating inside or outside. It's great to stop by after dinner or before an event!
Salt & Straw is constantly mentioned on social media and has a pretty large following. Known for their rich, high quality ice cream which contains the highest fat ratio legally permitted for ice cream at 17%. Their ice cream is made in small batches, with a low overrun (air whipped in) which gives it that rich, velvety smooth texture. They offer vegan ice creams and along with their permanent flavors, have constantly rotating new flavors which are all very unique. Overall, the richness, texture and mouth feel is comparable to other super premium ice creams I've had. I still found theirs to be a little too sweet and had too much going on to say it's my favorite. That's just personal preference though. For ultra rich ice cream, I prefer a more simple flavor profile and less sugar. Customer service was great though and they encourage you to try as many flavors as you like which is awesome!
I visited Salt & Straw on a Friday evening with a couple of friends with the intention of trying their new limited-edition Berries Series: Birthday Cakes & Blackberries, Strawberry Pretzel Salad, Goat Cheese Marionberry Habanero, Huckleberry Oat Crisp with Foraged Porcini, & Raspberry Marzipan Princess Cake. We sampled all of the new flavors & I also tried their Pear & Bleu Cheese. After a difficult decision--since I genuinely enjoyed every flavor--I opted for a split single of the Chocolate Gooey Brownie & the Birthday Cakes & Blackberries. I appreciated how friendly & knowledgeable the worker who helped us was--she walked us through each of the flavors & even shared some of her personal opinions. I love Salt & Straw for their uniquely innovative flavor combinations & I'm already excited for my next visit!
Melissa was absolutely wonderful. She served our party of 7 with such patience, kindness, and professionalism, and made the whole experience feel extra special. It was my birthday, and her warm, caring presence and beautiful smile truly stood out. She was attentive, gracious, and so genuinely kind throughout our meal. Melissa made us feel welcomed and celebrated, and we are so grateful for her outstanding service. We appreciate all the warm, good vibes , it was my birthday. She had no idea how she made the evening even sweeter thank you MELISSA.
The Tacolate was pretty small, but I think it was worth trying at least once for those who miss the OG. The flavor was unique as it incorporates some spiced flavors. Service at this location is always great. Even when busy, they always let me try whatever I want and give good recommendations based on my personal preferences. There's no seating inside, but there are some benches in the plaza outside. Can be busy at night, but it doesn't take long.

I loved the coffee love the most but I had to get some of the sherbet tonight. They have amazingly creative flavors and a lot of gluten-free options.
Service was quick and friendly. We stopped by to try the new chef creations! I got the sweet potato one and hubby got the HK milk tea flavor. I thoroughly enjoyed my choice as it truly tasted like I'm eating a sweet potato, with a little crunch. Hubby however didn't enjoy his HK Milk tea flavor...for some reason it was salty?? Even though the description did not include ingredients that could make it THAT salty. I tried a few bites and couldn't eat more...all is well though since we came in knowing salt n straw flavors are pretty "experimental". Samples the cheesecake yuzu flavor as well and that one was even saltier, though it makes sense since it's made with miso. Not your average ice cream shop after all. Come in with an open mind!
I've always seen this place and never tried it but it was a hot day on Friday so I decided to try it! Walking in the place smells really good and the inside of the store is very clean! Service was also great! I ordered the white chocolate raspberry and I thought it was good and it's more on the creamy side! They had a lot of flavors and even some combinations that intrigued me that I might have to go back and try!
I love salt & straw and this location is great! Love that we can try as many flavors. We loved the brownie flavor last time we went. I will say the Tacolate is so small!!!! It cost $7 and it is tiny - not worth it. Skip it.
We love visiting Salt & Straw and other ice cream places, but when we visit OC, there's almost nothing available besides the Salt & Straw in Downtown Disney, which has the most inconvenient parking situation. However, when we learned that there's a new location that opened in Newport, we were ecstatic! Now when I come to the area, I always stop by with friends and family to try seasonal flavors and enjoy classics. Service is always friendly and efficient even with the long lines, plus the shop never fails to exhibit their vintage, classic interior design of their branding. The shop itself is kind of small and the line extends out the door like most locations, but everyone has a fun time. You're lured in with the smell of waffle cone batter and the unique ice cream flavor combinations! I love a kid's scoop on a waffle cone or a split scoop in a cup. The best months to go for their flavors: January for Dairy Free Decadence series, March for Cerealously series, June or July for their Berries series, September for the Apple series, and October for the Halloween series!
You can never go wrong with salt & straw! We were excited to try the Thanksgiving flavors. I loved the koginut squash & pomegranate! Squash ice scream, who would have thought? Split scoop with chocolate brownie and it was amazing! Staff is always friendly and happy to have you try as many flavors as you want.
Salt & Straw has so many flavors it almost makes it hard to decide, but the samples the girl gave me behind the counter, helped a lot. I ended up with chocolate almond gold bar and chocolate brownie together and that was a good call. The chocolate almond gold bar is creamy chocolate with little almond bits and caramel mixed in, kind of like a frozen candy bar. Then the chocolate brownie scoop is deeper and richer with soft brownie chunks all through it. Eating them together works really well because one is smooth and sweet and the other is heavier and fudgy, so every bite tastes a little different. I also tried a sample of the honey lavender which was really good, just felt like going more dessert style today. Definitely glad I went with these two!
Nothing like Salt & Straw on a hot (heatwave) socal day Had to come in to try their seasonal flavor, wild forged berry slab pie, which i've been seeing all over my fyp. And let me tell you, it did not disappoint! I LOVED the berry jam with the salted vanilla ice cream. And the pie crust chunks, perfection. For our second scoop we got the vegan hazelnut cookies and cream which was also very yummy. It had a coconut base, which honestly you couldn't really tell because there were so many mix ins. i've been to this location a handful of times, and i'm always surprised to find parking since the lot is pretty small and i tend to come weekend nights. the interior is clean and the workers are always so friendly, from whoever is chatting w the group waiting at the front of the line and the people scooping ice cream for you. they always feel like real people and the ice cream picking experience doesn't feel rushed the seasonal flavors change on a monthly basis but not always at the beginning of the month. i appreciate that there's always a vegan flavor, but it tends to always be coconut-based which becomes a bit of an overpowering flavor. this is a qualm w the franchise and not the location, but i'd love more non-coconut based vegan options (like that raspberry marzipan princess cake flavor). prices are kinda expensive but when the flavor hits it hits read more
First, great tasting ice cream!! But you expect and want that and this delivers! Creamy, interesting flavors as well as more traditional ones. But customer service is a real plus. The lines can be long but the wait is worth it. The workers take their time and make sure each customer is taken care of. There are many options and they are willing to let you try as many samples as you want. They have real metal spoons the samples come on- this means more work for the staff. But that is part of a customer oriented store. It is also pet friendly! So come when you want to be treated right, take your time and enjoy unique flavors for something out of the ordinary or enjoy a flavor you're more familiar with. My friend and I came here after dinner at Fashion Island--they're super close, so we were really looking forward to having ice cream in the cold weather. We got there around 10pm, and the line wasn't too long. I got their sea salt and double fold vanilla ice cream, which was the perfect combo, and let me tell you why! The sea salt ice cream itself is pretty salty because of the Guatemalan salt they use, but the caramel is strong and has the perfect sweetness, giving it that sweet-and-salty balance. Since I found the ice cream a bit more on the salty side, I wanted something sweeter, which is why the vanilla was the perfect addition. This is hands down one of the best vanilla ice creams I've had because I could really taste the vanilla bean flavor (it's called "double fold" for a reason). Their ice cream doesn't disappoint--it's rich, creamy, and really lives up to its flavors. read more

Salt and straw always has the best flavors. They may sound like crazy names, but the combinations hit every flavor just right. For the price, I'd say good portions and quality. This was our first time coming to this Salt & Straw location, we've been to the one at Downtown Disney before this. It was nice to come in with no crowded lines and we didn't feel rushed while we were sampling all the flavors. The employees were so kind and really helped us narrow it down what we wanted to get. The only downsides were that the waffle cone wasn't crunchy as it's supposed to be, it was pretty soft. Also, the ice cream I got wasn't frozen as it should've been, it started melting at a fast rate the moment I received it. Love salt and straw, it never ceases to disappoint! My favorite flavor is the honey lavender, they just do it best. It's a permanent flavor so even if the rotating monthly flavors don't quite do it for me, this is my go-to. When I went in April the rotating flavors were just so-so imo, but I got my staple and one of the "leftover" march flavors which had lucky charms in it (thought that was fun). The staff were friendly as always and the line was long but moved fast (also as always). Just overall one of the best places to get dessert in SoCal (or other parts of the east coast) imo :) read more
Amazing ice cream! If you like sweet and savory combos, they have this one perfected with the sea salt caramel flavor! It's so good that we went twice in our 3 day weekend trip. They offer some very different obscure flavors that are also tasty and I'm always impressed by shops that venture from the normal flavors. They let you sample as many as you'd like and use little metal spoons which is a nice touch as well! The staff was all very kind and the smell of the shop alone is enough to draw you in. We also got the Salted, Malted Chocolate chip cookie dough and the cinnamon Snickerdoodle to go with the salted caramel and is was the best combo. They let you split flavors on the scoops, so keep that in mind if you're indecisive like me haha. read more
i was really excited to try the limited edition cereal flavors, but i was honestly really disappointed :( it was my first time trying salt and straw, so i wasn't sure what to expect... maybe my taste buds aren't mature enough for the unique flavors, but i sampled a handful of them and didn't like any. we ended up getting a cinnamon snickerdoodle shake. my bf described it as "if horchata made a second movie... horchata 2." he liked it, but it was pretty average to me. read more

I've never really been a fan of Salt & Straw until my recent visit to this location. When you step into the store, you are immediately hit with the scent of vanilla and waffle cones in the air. The inside is buzzing and hard to imagine this place ever empty but the line moves pretty quickly. The staff here are the friendliest I've ever encountered at a Salt & Straw and were so patient when we were sampling different flavors. Recently, my favorite flavor is the honey lavender. It is so unique, floral, and creamy. My new favorite discovery was the strawberry coconut sherbert (which is vegan btw)! A refreshing bite that reminded me of the strawberry glaze smoothie at Erewhon for some reason. There's a good amount of parking out front and some nice benches outside. They're open pretty late too! read more

Cute, homemade ice cream spot we tried after dinner next door. I haven't had homemade ice cream in years! It was a line but it moved pretty fast. I tried the sea salt with caramel ribbons and it did NOT disappoint! My honey had the chocolate gooey brownie. He loved his! The service was great, we had Brisa and she was very friendly. I did a sample of the seasonal cucumber ice cream because I'm a cucumber lover and I was curious lol... I wasn't a fan. But at least I can say I tried it, lol. Unique ice cream flavors, big scoops and super friendly service! You can literally try all the flavors you want and the best part is the workers are actually friendly and happy to let you try. The ice cream is a soft and creamy & really does have a bold taste matching the flavor name. The line can be long, but worth the wait, on a friday night waited about 30 mins. read more

I always check their instagram for what's new and this week they dropped a special strawberry waffle cone. It was so delicious and paired perfectly with their seasonal strawberry pretzel flavor. I wasn't sure about the whole pretzel thing initially, but our scooper recommended it and it was so much better than expected -- definitely go try the flavors you're curious about. I just love a nice thick ice cream with a bite and fun monthly flavors is also definitely a plus. Service is always friendly and welcoming. Safe to say I'm a Salt and Straw fanatic. read more
