It was ok. I like the customer service but I ordered the real Hawaiian shaved ice. It's not really real. They had vanilla effing ice cream...at the bottom. It should be macadamia. I think that was like $8. I may not get it again. The rest of shaved ice is just your generic shaved iced. It didn't standout to me. read more

This restaurant is nice and convenient since it is right next to the beach by the pier. There is also some outdoor seating tables. The food here is well priced and yummy. I got the BLT and it was good, my only note is that there was a little too much lettuce and mayo for my liking. The pineapple and vanilla swirl kids soft serve was delicious and I'd recommend it. read more

We chose this restaurant because the website looked good and had fairly good reviews. We were disappointed. Our burgers were severely undercooked - we could not even finish them. The fries were very greasy, the orders were messed up. Everyone seemed quite confused as to what was the orders were supposed to be. The images on the website should be made current to show how run down the place actually looks. read more

Ah Pipeline, a Balboa classic where drunk people congregate and the food is mediocre (except for the soft serve) which was great! Service was okay and was quick, although my burger took a while to come out and it was okay at best too. $8 was wasted that night. Won't be back here but it's worth checking out. read more

Eh, okay. I wanted fish and chips. We were at the pier. The boyfriend thought I'd choose a sit-down dining option. After 2 hours of whale-watching, I just wanted some grub and a nap. Enter Pipeline. I may opt not to do it again, but their cod was good. The onion rings are better than the fries. Service was notable. Great location--when it's warm enough to sit on the picnic benches. read more

Waited 43 minutes for a burger with no orders in front of me or behind.... and still waiting. Not worth it.

This one goes for the great customer service. Mason was very patient and helpful when choosing our dessert. Grab a drink, food, ice cream, etc to start walking on a nice sunset day... if you are coming back, get refreshed with their drinks. Public parking close but hard to find them. read more

Great service! Great food! Would highly recommend. We come here for tocos every Tuesday!!

Came here for one of their dipped cones with a topping, which was very reasonably priced around $4 and you get a discount for checking in on Yelp! The ice cream tasted like a standard ice cream bar, but the dip was pretty good, it was a chocolate covering and I decided to get crushed Oreos with it, so it was coated in a nice crunchy bite. Overall a pretty decent place, not too special outside of its convenient location and fair prices. read more

Great location! Excellent place to stop and get a burger or a delicious dipped cone on your beach bike ride. LOVE this place!

Food was good and service was great. However, I observed a female with glasses who seemed to be the manager interacting with an employee, and there attitude was less then ideal. While they seemed knowledgeable about what the employee was saying, their tone came off as dismissive and impatient. The managers lack of empathy and understanding towards their coworkers concerns created a tense atmosphere. read more

Admittedly I've only had the soft serve ice cream so far from here. But they're friendly and quick and patient. The cones were fresh and crunchy and even with lines they move through fast so you're not left waiting long. The perfect treat after walking the boardwalk or cruising the beach in and out of the water. Don't skip Pipeline! read more

Saturday was a hot day, lots of people wanting ice cream & water. You had 2 employees working your 2 open windows to service customers. The lady seemed to know what she was doing, her line was moving quickly. The young guy with glasses, not so much. He acts like he moving fast, but In actually he's not! It was finally my turn and all I wanted was a drink. All of a sudden this guy disappeared!!! He started helping the lady fill her next order? I said excuse me, where did this guy go! The lady then said ohhhh sorry what can I get you? I said all I need is a drink, but where did this disappear to? I then see him running around in the kitchen with an ice cream. I just shook my head, grabbed my drink, paid & left. Please train all your employees of how to provide customer service. You can't just disappear when you still have 2 lines. read more

I think the pipeline is the classic surf Food shack. The food is good and the prices are great. Great memories for the whole family every time we visit. Still, biking from the Huntington Beach pier down to Newport Beach's is always a great ride. And, just as we always have before, we stop at Pipeline's for a soft serve. However, finally after my having written my first Yelp review six years ago and having always simply had soft serve anyway, some visiting buddies of mine thought to give Pipeline's burgers a try. I mean, there we were just relaxing and enjoying the sunshine. Why not, right? (Opportunity's always knocking!) Before all else, across the board and around the picnic table, the onion rings were the highlight. You'll want to try a few of those, especially if all you're looking for is a quick snack to share. The cheeseburgers and fries, they were delicious as well, but nothing super special about them. They were what we'd expected, but they certainly hit the spot, and no one complained. Besides, right out front of Pipeline's is a a small, picnic bench seating area, perfect for giving your pedal a rest, soaking in some sun, and enjoying the beach. With this kind of kick-back, I would imagine nothing could really ruin your day. And Pipeline, well, with a few smiles, they're going to be complementing that. read more

There are so few soft serve ice cream places in Orange County these days. This is my spot! Anytime we're down on the strand in Newport, we always stop and get a cone (sometimes my daughter mixes it up and gets Italian ice.) read more

BEEARE CUSTOMERS On 6/30/23 Rosemary Olivarez and I purchased an (1) ice cream from Pipeline for $5.06. As we left the girl who waited on us ran after us and said she accidental charged $80 for a tip and would return it to Rosemary's card after it cleared even though it cleared immediately. A day passed, no return of the unauthorized tip, then the following day we called Pipeline and spoke to a manager, Allyson. She said she would reverse the charge back to my card. Several calls later and empty promises. A mistake was made then Pipeline kept the $80 fraudulently charged tip. Watch it folks and check your receipts especially Senior Citizens. My Credit Union states it is a fraud transaction. read more

CAUTION: Unsanitary. Use bare hands to serve food. Not just one person but all of the guys that work there. Ordered a hotdog waited over 15 min so I had time to watch the guys prepare the food. NO GLOVES used when making food. Felt disgusted so we just walked away. Keep the $5. While in line, other customers complained about the ice cream they served. Someone said it tasted like water. read more

I've eaten here a handful of times since I ride the beach bike trail. The food is standard beach-front style diner food, but it's still pretty good. I am fond of the double bacon cheeseburger and chili cheese fries. I recently tried the chicken sandwich and it was good, but probably will go back to the cheeseburger next time. There's been a couple of small "oops" moments (asked for no onion/no tomato) but nothing crazy. I'll still come back and enjoy the food. read more

The Balboa bar with the works and vanilla cone was our order. Good ice cream and good customer service.

Cute little shop that serves burgers, fries, and hot dogs but my boyfriend and I stopped here for their Balboa Bar with the works (basically just a vanilla ice cream bar dipped in milk chocolate and covered with graham crackers, oreos, peanuts, and sprinkles). Diabetes in my mouth for sure. I was telling my boyfriend how I think it would be better if they prepared the ice cream in advance and kept it frozen in a freezer because the ice cream was already beginning to melt when I took my initial bite. It was quite messy but delicious. So delicious in fact that my nose wanted a taste of chocolate too. Would come back for more =) read more

Don't order the "original Hawaiian Shave ice";" it is nothing like the shave ice found in Hawaii. The texture was more akin to ice chunks...no beautiful melt in your mouth shavings here. Consequently, the whole thing was hard to eat. Much of it fell to the table, and was therefore inedible. There are few flavors to choose from, and the flavor of those flavors was just okay. Definitely did not satisfy a shave ice craving. read more

What's a day at the beach without Shave Ice???? Well, look no further because Pipeline has it and it's fairly light and somewhat fluffy. I say somewhat but in all honesty it probably compares to most shave ice here. Guess I'm spoiled by the real stuff in Hawaii. LOL They've got a pretty large menu for being such a little place and the wait was not long at all. We didn't eat any food other than the ice but boy, oh boy, those onion rings were huge and looked amazing. Stop at Pipeline for a treat and some people watching. read more
