A popular spot serving up various bingsoo flavors that definitely hit the spot on a hot day. We ordered a large Black Sesame ($14.25) which came with sliced almonds, red bean, and little mochi pieces. The black sesame shaved snow was creamy with a very subtle black sesame flavor. I was actually hoping it would have packed more of a punch, but it was still tasty and I like how they swirled the red bean throughout the bingsoo as opposed to only scooping it on the top. I liked the addition of the mochi pieces and only wish they weren't so hard in texture. The large is perfect for sharing and definitely seems like a better value for your money in terms of portion size compared to the small size. I didn't know that they had another location in the Irvine area and it was such a pleasant surprise to get as dessert after lunch! The store was quite small but had a decent amount of seating inside. I tried the Mango Paradise Bingsoo, which was super refreshing and tasted very fresh (and not too sweet). I also tried their Ube Mochi Waffle, which may have been my favorite thing here. It was such a yummy texture and was warm and the ube flavor was nice too. The Injeolmi Latte was decent and helped cut the sweetness of the other stuff but I don't think I would order it again as I felt the drink got diluted really quickly, even with the additional espresso shot I added. Bomb korean shaved ice!! Came by on a Sunday around 930pm and the place was still poppin. We had a group of 6 people so we ordered Ube mochi waffle, choco oreo large, Melon lime breeze large, black sesame large. Took about 25 min for everything to come out. Inside had a club vibe but way too hot so we ate it outside. The details and presentation were nice/ beautiful. I can see why it took a bit of time to come out. This is the best Bingsoo in Koreatown. The seasonal fruit selection is good although they ran out of mango last time which is my favorite. The shaved ice is powdery delicate and absorbs the syrups very well. Condensed milk on top just makes it perfect. First of all, this place can get PACKED!!! My friend and I stopped by on weekend evening, and there were just so many people both inside and outside the shop!! Staff is super kind, but man they are BUSY and you can see them frantically working! We also ordered a side of rice balls. Our order came out fairy fast. What I like about this bingsu is their portion is perfect for singe serving. A great spot for something refreshing. Overall their flavor selection was not super big, but they had and interesting seasonal flavor, grape jasmine! In addition to their bingsoo options they had mochi waffles and drinks. I wish for the bingsoo there was a size in between their regular and large. I got the large and it was a lot for one person. The jasmine portion was a jasmine jelly insert hidden inside. The ice cream on top actually tasted like lime and then they had fresh grapes and grape shave ice. I thought the ube mochi waffle was a nice item to have with it, it rounded out all the zesty refreshing notes, and gave me something warm and mellow in favor to balance it. It could have had a more ubi forward flavor though. They have seating inside I sat closer to the door because further in I was smelling a burning plastic smell. Maybe it's the machine shaving ice starting to ask for a break from how busy they are. Everyone was nice, they did have a mix up with my order and ended up taking a pretty long time to get me my bingsoo which was a bit of a bummer since my waffle started getting cold. I really wish Heybings had more locations outside of Orange County! I used to be an Oakobing girl, but this might officially be my new favorite spot. The shaved ice here is unbelievably soft, infused with condensed milk, and absolutely delicious. We shared the Mango Paradise, which came with mango purée, fresh mango, and vanilla ice cream and it was so good. My husband usually avoids dessert for health reasons, but even he made an exception and happily shared both the shaved ice and the chewy ube mochi waffle with me. Yum! I was honestly still so full from lunch that I couldn't finish my corn latte, but it actually tasted super refreshing the next day after sitting in the fridge overnight. However, I don't like how they come with ice cream and the mochi is pretty small/not fresh and chewy. Also, I love red beans and theirs is not nearly as good as Sul & Beans (soft, tender and good mouthfeel). The individual portions are kinda pricey for very little shaved ice and more fruit/topping. Desserts: We each shared two Ube Mochi Waffles and a single Choco Oreo. The waffles were lightly chewy from the mochi, and the ube flavor was subtle. They weren't overly sweet. The Choco Oreo is a cookies n cream flavored infused ice. It tasted exactly as described. The crumbs gave it a nice texture, and the ice cream on top made it creamier. It wasn't overly sweet either. I'm surprised I haven't been here before since I'm a frequent visitor of Sul and Beans but this place is so much less crowded for the same great quality of bingsoo. I absolutely adore this place!! They are dog friendly and the service is wonderful. I absolutely loved their shaved ice as well. It is on the sweeter side, but it's the perfect icy treat. My husband and I shared the mango bingsoo (large size). We weren't sure if it was going to be too big for two people, but the cups/bowls for the regular size look hard to eat out of without making a mess. The large size ended up being perfect for the two of us. The ice texture is more like snow, super light and fluffy. They are also SOOO generous with the amount of mangos, and there is even more mangos at the bottom of the bowl! The dessert was perfectly sweet and so packed with mango flavor. There's several tables inside, but I can see it getting packed in the evenings/weekends. I like that it's easy to order via kiosk, and our snow came out right away. This might sound a little weird, but part of me was genuinely worried that I might have cursed Heybings. After seeing several bingsoo places in the Bay Area close shortly after discovering them, including my all-time favorite (still bummed all of these years later), I couldn't help but fear history might end up repeating itself here. So, needless to say, I was pretty stoked to see this place was not only still alive and kicking, but thriving based on how much busier they were my second time stopping in! Now, at a glance, not much about Heybings immediately stands out (though, the decor is cute), but it's such a cozy spot to grab a nice, cool treat. At any given time, their menu has almost a dozen different varieties of their bingsoo to choose from, including their classic and specialty/seasonal flavors, as well as a half dozen types of mochi and liege waffles. What's more, they also have a mix of specialty drinks and coffees to offer, ranging from your basic sorts of espressos, like Americanos and cold brews, to matchas (including ceremonial grade) and a super interesting mix of lattes (ube, black sesame, injeolmi, houjicha, etc.). -- MATCHA STRAWBERRY - Matcha Base with House-made Strawberry Puree, Fresh Strawberries, Condensed Milk, and Matcha Ice Cream This may not be super unique, but there's a reason why it's so classic - the strawberry and matcha complemented each other so well! Plus, not only were the two flavors really well balanced, but this wasn't nearly as sweet as I thought it was going to be. -- JASMINE GREEN GRAPE with Lemon Sorbet, Green Grapes, Green Grape Puree, and Jasmine Tea Jelly As good as the Matcha Strawberry was, I actually thought this was even better! Rather than just a chewier waffle, this was like a glob of mochi crisped into a waffle. That said, I wish this had a stronger taste of sesame and peanuts to it (just had flecks of them in the mochi). Beyond how much we enjoyed their bingsoo and waffles, the other thing I love about this Heybings is their service. Across both visits, the workers have always been super friendly and relatively quick with getting orders out, even when they've been somewhat busy. Plus, their location is super convenient, as they're not hard to find and the complex has tons of parking spaces. Heybings - I'm so glad you guys helped to break the curse! A little overwhelming for me, but I am easily overstimulated, plus we were next to a table with small children who were definitely on a sugar rush. Bingsoo is such a nice dessert, and Heybings makes a really dank one. I liked the seasonal Jasmine Grape with a bit of lemon sorbet. It was just super refreshing, and hit the tart notes that I crave after a heavier dinner. And can't forget about the jasmine jelly layered beneath the snow to add some texture and floral flavors. I will say, the grape syrup drizzle was soooooo good. Definitely want to get it again before it's gone. Service was good, although I didn't end up getting a text when my stuff was ready.
