Having lived in Southern California for a very long time, I had seen Pancakes R Us when they were located down the street on 17th. The place they are currently residing in used to be one of those belt driven sushi bars, but now it's pancakes. Which could have been fun with a belt drive system. But I digress. I had never eaten at this restaurant, but had always wanted to so today seemed like the perfect day to do so. Parking is definitely a little bit limited. I can imagine when it gets busy that it's tough to find parking, but I got here early enough in the morning so I was able to find it. If I'm being completely honest, the inside feels like an upscale IHOP. With a modern twist. The booths are nice and comfy, and the syrups are on full display much like IHOP. Wait staff was friendly and attentive, so I ordered the steak Skillet which came with a 7 oz steak, two eggs, potatoes with peppers, mushrooms and cheese, as well as half a biscuit and two buttermilk pancakes. I was very impressed with the steak, I'll be it a little bit tough, it was still a good size steak and very tasty. The skillet potatoes were amazing and the pancakes were very good. My only complaint about the service was I had to ask for my milk two times. Again, it wasn't that busy to wear. It would be easy to forget, but I will slide them some gray so, give them four stars instead of three. Bottom line? The food was delicious. I would definitely come here again. If you happen to be in Costa Mesa and you are craving some good pancakes, this place should definitely be on your list! read more

My husband and I have been coming here for the past 14 years (in their old location) and now bring our children here when we are in the area. We live in San Clemente, but always make time to get over to Pancakes R Us. We love the delicious food, big portions, and expansive menu. 9/10 times we visit, Noemi is our waitress. She is always so sweet and takes the best care of us. She makes the experience even better. Some of our menu favorites: Meat lovers omelette Biscuits and gravy Hash browns (so crispy and flavorful!) Kind. I found this great breakfast place about 6 months ago. Great simple breakfast. Hot coffee. Always a warm welcome when I walk in. Today, distracted with a lot on my "plate", I spilled my full coffee all over the table and on myself. Ugh. Figured this would be a safe bet for some good pancakes. Boy was I wrong. The man who seated me seemed annoyed and didn't seem to understand when I asked if they have a counter. He grumpily seated me and I just figured he was having a bad day. Pancakes were raw batter in the middle and tasted like boxed mix. I ate around the edges then my waiter noticed my plate with the mushy pancakes. He brought me another pancake even though I said no thanks. It's was hard and super thin. Inedible. Perhaps the kitchen was proud of the first plate and took offense, sending out the cardboard-like replacement for revenge. Ridiculous. My girlfriend's meetup group organized a pancake breakfast. We were a smaller group than usual, only 4 of us. Pancakes R Us seated us in a booth in the middle of the restaurant. Servers came to take our drink orders and returned to get our food after we had time to look over the menu. Lots of breakfast options. My girlfriend choose the pork chops and eggs, which came with 3 pancakes. I had the cinnamon roll French toast with eggs, bacon, and hashbrowns. Apparently i made a better choice. My girlfriend's pork chops were very thin and came out dry and tough. She likened them to beef jerkey. She ended up leaving most of them uneaten on her plate. She commented that the pancakes were very tasty but fairly heavy. She couldn't finish them. I enjoyed my bacon, eggs, hashbrowns, and cinnamon roll French toast. We probably won't return. Breakfast was good, not great and it's about 25 miles from our homes. read more

Quick service and clean. Got here on a Sunday morning by 9:00am and it was fairly empty, but picked up by 10am. Was going t get the Country Fried Steak & Eggs, but got the pork chops instead. Huge mistake. Menu says Two 4oz pork chops which should've been a red flag right there but I ignored it. They looked good but not only were they difficult to cut, but it was so dry that it was like eating beef jerky. Pancakes were delicious and filling. Prices were average but you get good size portions. If you're not a big eater, you can take home leftovers. Overall, huge selection on their menu and lots of great chooces. read more

I have been here before at their previous location and tried their new one. Pancakes R Us is a staple in this city and I've eaten here enough to know what's good: 1. Breakfast of course. They make great omelets, pancakes, and French toast. Everything breakfast is fantastic. 2. Senior deals for those 55+ and frankly a lot of the customers are within this age group One thing I can't say I'm a fan of is the dinner entree of fried fish aka fish and chips. It was hard to eat, but you can never go wrong with breakfast for dinner. I'd definitely come back again and try a different dinner entree or just have breakfast again. read more

Don't believe any of these one star reviews. This simply is the best breakfast place i've ever eaten at. First off, where do I start OK?Let's talk about the menu, which is the most extensive breakfast menu you will ever see. It's like four full pages and the options are endless. Secondly, the food is amazing. When you order two scrambled eggs it's like getting four eggs. The bacon, sausage and ham are great. They cook it however you want it. Their sausage gravy is amazing. And they have multiple choices of pancake syrup , blueberry, boysenberry, pecan and strawberry and of course heated maple. The coffee is also hot and they give you a carafe so you can serve yourself and you don't have to wait on coffee. Folks you simply will not find a better breakfast spot anywhere. read more

The hostesses were extremely rude. There were two girls at the front who didn't even greet us when we arrived--no "hello" or "good morning." They simply walked us to our table without a word. When we left, they were standing around with unfriendly expressions, no smiles, just a cold attitude. They also didn't look presentable, which added to the poor impression. Our server, however, was very nice, and a few staff members seemed pleasant. Unfortunately, most of the team lacked warmth or professionalism. Wow first time here and I loved it! When we first walked in the vibes were nice and cozy and our server was very nice and considerate! He did a phenomenal job! My wife loved the Nutella Crepe with bananas. She didn't care for the syrupy strawberries. The country fried steak was not homemade. It was alright. Next time I'll ask for the shredded hash browns to be cooked well done. Or I'll try their other potatoes that come with their skillets. Unfortunately, my experience at this establishment was pretty terrible. We weren't really greeted upon entry, just told "come here" and so we followed. Service was fast, but not friendly or anything. I'm not sure what the vibe is for this place, I thought it was a sit down restaurant, but it felt more like fast food where they bring it to your table for pizazz lol. The food was BAD tho. I'm not sure how pancakes can be tough, but they did it. My knife didn't want to cut through it, I should've taken it as a sign... also my eggs were dripping wet. Wet with what? I don't know. 4.5 stars: This place is cute. Funky lighting, dated booths, clean and homey - just what you want in a little diner. The staff is so sweet and the food service was incredibly fast. I specifically went here because I noticed their vegan options and I was excited to try their vegan scramble (hash browns, black beans, veggies, avocado, comes with a side of power (vegan) pancakes), but they were out of vegan pancakes and apparently haven't had them for a while. I subbed for sourdough toast and while it wasn't a pancake, it was still great. Give it a shot, they have a ton of options for different dietary needs, and it's clearly a family friendly place. We stopped in for breakfast the other day and were surprised by how much food you get for the price! They have big portions, so you'll most likely have leftovers. I like that they have a couple of syrup options. We actually like the boysenberry flavor best! The meat lovers omelet was great-they really packed in a lot of meat and did not skimp out at all! Solid choice for breakfast. It's exactly the diner you're expecting when it comes to pancakes, French toast, and eggs. The corned beef comes in a can so I would avoid that. Joel was the hardest worker I've ever come across in a restaurant setting. He was the host seating customers, taking drink and food orders, serving the food, bussing the tables, being the cashier, handling the DoorDash orders and also cleaning up the restaurant. Pancakes R Us moved to a different location recently and we really like the new spot! It's more of a diner style or a Denny's. Parking is not as ideal, but we found a spot easily. Also, service is great and the servers are proactive and friendly. We could tell that there were a number of regulars that came in because they greeted them by name at the door. We ordered the chorizo which came with pancakes that I upgraded to pumpkin flavor as well as the chicken fajita omelette with French toast as the side. The chorizo dish was delicious and the pumpkin pancakes were good. They are tasty, but not as fluffy as I usually prefer them to be. The chicken fajita omelette was also great and the French toast was amazing. Funny enough, we thought the French toast was better than the pancakes. Overall, the experience at Pancakes R Us was great. We'd definitely go back for breakfast or even a late night snack. read more

My family went to eat here and it could've been better. If we could give it 0 stars we would. My family got seated and the bus boy brings them waters but doesn't just sit it down, he slides it down the table, one hit something and the other one spilt all over them. My mom then orders a steak and it was quoted as "bland and no flavor whatsoever". My stepdad then tried it too, also said there was no flavor. The employees felt terrible and asked if there was anything else they would've wanted, so they decided to order the turkey bacon. Very tasteless, like paper almost. Me and my boyfriend dined here on a Wednesday night in December. It was dead which made me sad because I thought it was so clean and cozy here. The man working who I'm assuming was the owner was so friendly and helpful. Our food was fast and fresh. Absolutely so delicious. You didn't offer us a nice table you gave us a table in the corner behind the hostess (honestly I hope people will actually look at that spot and picture him trying to seat 7 people there!) They were customers that had been there MANY times and now will never go again because of the way you spoke over them and disregarded what they were saying. We would have gladly waited 30 minutes for a better table and told you that much.. and the girls we suggested you move still had menus and didn't even have water yet, so their food was not coming, or else we obviously wouldn't have suggested that. You are a bully and good luck to you. Was very excited to eat here but I've never encountered such a rude owner in my life. I would never ever eat here and give him my hard earned money. This is one of my go to breakfast joints and it never disappoints! It's a nice cozy dinner with plenty of seating! I always walk in and am greeted and seated immediately it's absolutely awesome!!! I I mostly get their Country fried steak and sunny side up eggs and the gravy and mash are just phenomenal!!!
