OMG!!! What a hidden gem in Costa Mesa. All my friends kept recommending I come here and now I finally took them up on their offer. How to Order: When you walk in there are ordering slips. You grab a pencil and fill out your order. Once you're done you leave it on the deli case. After the sandwich is made the staff will call you name & then you pay. Love how it is customizable. Parking: It can be tricky with the other shops in the strip mall. I would say try to say come early or avoid rush hour food times. Food: Soo yummy and lots of options. I ordered the turkey sandwich on Ci Si Bon bread with lettuce, pickles, and mayo! I will definitely be coming back again to try all the meats and bread selections. :) read more

First time at Ruby's but will not be my last. I found Ruby's by luck and boy do I feel lucky. I ordered the roast beef sandwich and was not disappointed. The bread was soft and delicious, and they are not stingy with their ingredients. This sandwich brought a smile to my face it was so good. Their service is old school where one has to write down their order, but the staff was friendly and helpful and they didn't make me feel bad for being a first time customer. They have a casual ambiance and speedy service. I cannot wait to go back! read more

Ruby's was a great find! Wanted a fresh and tasty sandwich and found exactly that at Ruby's. A busy spot that is frequented by many locals that seem to know the young ladies working behind the counter. Service was friendly and fast. The sandwiches were made to order with fresh ingredients. The chicken noodle soup was hot with noodles that seemed to be homemade. The dining area at Ruby's is small and clean with tables and a bar area to sit. Over all, a nice lunch at a spot I would definitely stop by again if I'm in the area. read more

I've been told that Rubys Sandwich Saloon is a popular location for the locals and students of Newport Harbor High School to come visit. I've been here many times but this is my first review. It's a shop that specializes in sandwiches. When you walk in, grab one of the paper slips to fill out and customize your order. Turn that slip up to the front and they will prep your sandwich while you pay. There's a cute chip corner if you want to add a bag of chips. I'm a classic tuna on wheat kinda gal, so that's what I always get. The squaw bread however is nothing like I've ever tasted and my boyfriend likes to get that for his sandwiches. Small eatery but they have plenty of seating. Saw a ticktock with someone saying this was her fave sandwich so I had to give it a try. So glad I did. Our sandwiches were BOMB! On first entry the ladies explained how to get the pad & order your own custom sandwich. Looks to be an all female staff. Very friendly. Delish food. Turkey meat was so fresh. Probably the best deal around for a deli sandwich, and it puts the chains to shame. At $8.35 for a sandwich, its hard to beat around here. The sandwiches are well filled with meat and good sized. Friendly and prompt service is also a plus. The order slip gives you about a dozen options, as well as choice of bread, condiments, and garnishes (avocado is free). I recommend getting your sandwich on a C'est si bon roll if you want a roll. Worth it to search out this little gem. read more

Lived here 15+ years and never knew about this place. It's hidden and unassuming but a treasure. It's like stepping back into time. The food is well priced, fresh and small town friendly customer service. I had a whole egg salad sandwich and my husband had a hot pastrami. Very tasty and soft breads. Step back in time to Ruby's! There's nothing like a delicious, classic sandwich. It's a great deal when you consider avocado or sprouts as part of the veggie options you can pick without an additional charge. We ordered four sandwiches 2 turkey, 1 tuna, and 1 turkey/ham...there were no complaints from my group of picky eaters. The online ordering was hella easy and ready on time. I always go for the Hot Barbecue Sandwich roast, or the Tuna one. Ruby's is a great Sandwich place in Orange County only. They have huge portions of sandwiches as well, so bring a big appetite with you. Sandwiches are delcious. They come with drinks and all. Despite the strange combination I ordered today, I was surprised at how much I liked the sandwich. I conveniently ordered everything online. The menu is straightforward - you choose your choice protein, cheese, veggie + condiments. For myself, I ordered all of my favorite things...but these favorite things don't necessarily belong in the same sandwich. What I concocted was a salami sandwich with provolone cheese, topped with avocado, pepperoncinis + sprouts on squaw bread. None of these ingredients belong today, but magically they did for this one small moment. It's not fancy here, but their ingredients are top notch. Order any combination - I have first hand experience - and you will be pleasantly surprised at how good everything tastes. There is real quality to the attention that is given to the individual ingredients - this makes for a really good sandwich. read more

The roast beef was stacked in there, super juicy, with all that melted cheese just covering everything. You can see the mushrooms and peppers mixed in, and it all kind of blends together in every bite. It's messy as heck with all the juices soaking into the bread, but soooo good. Service is always good as well. There are a few girls that worked here today, always smiling, great attitudes, just a really good vibe.

If he looks at the picture of the breakfast burrito on this Yelp and compare to my burrito, you'll see that the one in the Yelp pictures got twice as many ingredients not mostly tortilla as you could see on the left of my picture. Pretty disappointing.

Hands down... This is my favorite lunch spot! This sandwich place is better than Tummy Stuffers, Junior's Deli, or any other pretentious cafe. I go here when I want a nice-sized sandwich for the right price. The ordering process is simple, and if you're in a rush, it's easy as 1-2-3 to call it in and pick it up. When you walk in, you take a notepad from the counter and check off the ingredients you want in your sandwich. You get the choice of bread, meat, cheese, 3 vegetables, and condiments. I always get the roast beef on squaw with mustard, jack pepper cheese, avocado, tomato and lettuce. In my opinion, it's the best sandwich I have ever laid my bear claws on. Overall, I highly recommend this place to anyone who enjoys a good 'ol American sandwich. read more

The ambiance is what you should expect, a sandwich saloon with saloon vibes of the old west. It has that family/local sandwich spot where only locals visit, or a Yelp reader reading this review! Service is awesome! Walk up to the front, grab an order sheet, and mark down what type of bread, meat, veggies, condiments etc., pass it onto the friendly staff. Behind the counter is where the magic happens and then they call your name... Oh baby, lunch is ready!
