The next place we tried was 17th Street Deli. I actually found this spot on TikTok while looking for a good deli before heading to the beach with my wife and our friend. It was a sunny day and nothing hits better than a cold sandwich before the beach, so this place came through perfectly. The staff here was super sweet and the girl at the front was incredibly helpful. I basically rapid fired questions at her asking what she recommended and let her choose for me. She pointed me toward the Italian cold sandwich, and she did not miss. I added jalapenos, pepperoncinis, and pickles, and the whole thing was phenomenal. The French baguette had the perfect crunch while still being airy inside. The meats were loaded with flavor and had that perfect salty bite. Paired with the pickles, lettuce, and the dressing they use, it just came together really well. I was honestly impressed. Eating that sandwich on the beach with a full ocean view on a hot day made it even better. It felt like the perfect moment. I am glad we found a new go to deli spot for beach days or even just for a quick lunch. We are used to higher costs living in Orange County however the roast beef au ju sandwich was good flavor but wildly expensive for what you get. My recommendation isn't about the food, rather the ambiance. I've eaten in there and because there's just lots of tall windows, it gets super bright in there, which makes it a bit uncomfortable to sit in. I ordered a Reuben, premium pastrami brisket slow steamed, (3 hour steamed time) on plain rye, russian dressing, sauerkraut and Swiss cheese. I substituted sourdough bread for rye. Although, all the sandwiches looked good, I was craving a Rueben! It just didn't hit the spot, I was hoping that this would be the deli sandwich I could rave about. It just wasn't. It was dry, didn't have a lot of flavor and was it bits that did not cover the bread. It left a lot to be desired for a sandwich that costs about twenty bucks by itself.
