My group and I walked in and spent about 2 minutes looking over the menu, trying to decide what to order. Without any warning or polite notice, an employee abruptly shouted "we are closed" at us and told us to leave. The tone came off as rude and unwelcoming, especially since no one had mentioned they were closing when we first walked in. I completely understand businesses needing to close at a certain time, but a simple and courteous heads-up would have made a big difference. Best corn dog ever... here's why: I've been coming here since high school, so this place has been around for a long time and it's still one of my favorite quick stops in Newport. Look at the pictures. This corn dog comes out perfectly golden brown with that deep fried batter all the way around. When you bite into it the outside has that crisp crunch, but the inside is soft and fluffy like fresh cornmeal batter should be. The hot dog in the middle is juicy and cooked just right, and the whole thing is big too, not one of those skinny little ones you get at other places. If you want to dress it up, they've got a little condiment station where you can load it up however you want. Ketchup, relish, mustard, onions, jalapeños, different spices, all that kind of stuff. What I also like about this place is they've got everything. hot dogs, funnel cakes, banana splits, all the classic snack stand stuff. Perfect spot when you're walking around Newport and want something quick that actually tastes great. We were walking around after dinner and there was a long line for the other ice cream shop so we came across this one. About 2 people in front of us but they were quick to get their corn dogs and funnel cake so we were able to order quickly. My son got 2 scoops of chocolate ice cream and was content with the serving size. He actually liked this ice cream better than the competition around the corner because he said their ice cream melts too fast. He said he would definitely go back for ice cream here. Not worth $5 for a microwave corn dog. Also, the discrimination was sickening. For one, there were no signs saying cash only. And we noticed people prior to and after us paying with card/tap. they clearly have a debit machine that says they take square, both at the register and outside in the door. but after we ordered, after we got our food, for us, the cashier said cash only. We had to go to the ATM outside to get cash out. When asked why the people before us paid with their card, he said "no, for YOU, cash". & continued to ignore our questions for his reasoning. This place is the bomb! Located at the Newport Beach Pier right next to the chili restaurant. You can park and pay for parking or park somewhere else and walk down. They have a variety of snacks and small foods here: ice cream, frozen banana, corn dogs, hot dogs, fries, etc. The corndogs cost $5 for one and I paid cash. No tax was added while paying cash so that was great. You can find a ketchup and mustard dispenser along side the window with some napkins. They make the corndogs fresh and they're really good! Overall: 6/10, nice for latenight snack but steep for the food, if you're a couple drinks in it'll be really good though. If you're sober, it's just really mid. Good, definitely not great, but most certainly not worth $5 for a corndog (I might not be educated on price of corn dogs). Went there pretty late, around like 12:30am, had no line or anything and got 2 corndogs for $10.50 so $5.25 per corndog. Food tasted like it was kept under a warm light, definitely not fresh, my assumption is the made them over 30 minutes ago, which is very iffy for me if im paying $5 for a corn dog and they don't take long to make. Now the corn dog is a good size, a bit too heavy on the batter and because it was left out it was soggy, but had a good fry (minus it doesnt matter because its been out for so long). If I'm paying $5.25 for a corn dog I would want them to be like, actually made to order not kept warm. I would compare it to a costco hotdog, even the batter is a little sweet and the dog is pretty sizeable. Super small store, no inside sitting but they have a bench and the pier outside, people don't know how to funnel out of the building and decide to clutter the inside, can't teach common sense, but it blocked all the condiments. I saw a girl on the pier eating a corn dog that looked way too good to ignore, so I asked her where she got it and that's how I ended up here. I ordered the World Famous Fresh Hand Dipped Corn Dog, and wow... it truly lives up to the name. It was made fresh and hand-dipped right on the spot, then cooked immediately. You can absolutely taste the difference perfectly crispy on the outside, soft and flavorful on the inside, and piping hot. Nothing frozen or premade about it. I also ordered the funnel cake with strawberries, which was another huge win. It was freshly made, golden, crispy, and topped generously with strawberries. Sweet, warm, and totally satisfying perfect for sharing, but I honestly didn't want to. The location is super convenient, just a short walking distance from the pier, making it an easy stop while strolling around Newport Beach. The service was amazing friendly, fast, and welcoming. My family has been coming here for over a decade. It is consistently good. You might not expect much from a small establishment on the beach that exclusively sells fried food, but the corn dogs here are so good. I showed up at around 1pm in the afternoon on a Friday, there was no line, the guy working there was really nice and the corndog and cheese stick was really good. So I had been a loyal customer for a few years driving all the way from Cerritos just to get some corndogs. About 3 weeks ago I went and got corn dogs and cheese on a stick and I don't know what happened but the cheese on a stick batter was still uncooked, and so was the batter on two of the 4 corn dogs. Years without any issues and then this? I didn't give 1 star because until this last trip you had been perfect. Don't think you need to dip the food more than once, that might help. Also, change that oil more often. Disappointed that we had to toss out most of what we got, and now after years of loyalty will have to find a new place to get corndogs.
