I've had shake shack before when I was in New York City, and was pleasantly surprised when I saw one open up in Costa Mesa. They do have them where I'm at in Las Vegas, but I have yet to visit any of those establishments. I was super hungry and thought I want to go try that rib sandwich. Place is easy to find right off 17th Street. You really can't miss it with that big sign. And the building is definitely unique as well so you shouldn't have any problem finding it Inside you can either choose to go digital and and skip talking to a real person. I'm old school, I actually like engaging with people. So I went to the counter. I ordered the rib sandwich without looking, and was a little shocked by the total. The sandwich itself is 15 bucks, I ordered a small fry which was $4.50, and a small drink which was $4. With a 15% tip my total came out to $28. Definitely a little shell-shocked by that. Now let's talk about the sandwich. It came to the table and at first glance it looked very small. When I picked it up there was a very generous portion of rib meat inside like a big chunk of rib meat. Huge pickles and a lot of sauce. It was a great sandwich. Do not get me wrong, what I ordered again? Maybe. They don't really have a meal deal that includes fries and a drink so it's sort of all a la carte. Now let's talk about the taste. The fries were perfectly cooked, and the sandwich itself was a solid 10. That being said, I would definitely feel more comfortable paying $12 for this sandwich, as I think 15 is a little exuberant. And you don't really get that many fries for $4.50. I can't imagine what the meal deal would have been, but I'm sure people would absolutely balk at that price. I would have given it a five-star review, but that is way too much for that sandwich. As delicious as it was, I just don't feel right spending that much for a sandwich. If it could be reworked, and the price dropped down I would be all in in a heartbeat. Bottom line? If you've been wanting to try it, I say go ahead. Just be warned that you could be unpleasantly surprised unless you know what the prices are you're getting into. read more

first and foremost, I want to say the staff here is incredibly awesome! As soon as I walked in, mostly all the stuff greeted me. They were so kind! The restaurant is well lit and extremely clean. I ordered a cheeseburger, fries, and cheese on the side. I also ordered a puppy patty with no salt for my dog. Oh also, I ordered a vanilla milkshake because my coworker told me to order one and it was really good! The wait time was pretty average. About 5 to 8 minutes or so. They were kind of busy with in person and online orders I believe. I did not mind waiting. Naturally, I was starving so I kind of wolfed down the whole meal in like less than five minutes lol. I have always been curious why almost every Shake Shack location has a three star rating. I love a good burger, so I finally stopped by their Costa Mesa location to give them a try for the first time. All orders are placed at one of three kiosks just inside the front door. Take one of the stands with a number on it, enter that number on your order, and then a staff member will deliver your order to your table when it is ready. The inside of the restaurant is somewhat small, with just three booths and four tables. They have a nice patio outside which with about ten tables. Half of the tables have an umbrella over them, and there are also a few heat lamps for when it is cold outside. I ordered the Avocado Bacon Burger. It had a nice soft bun, and all of the ingredients were in plain view. I took the first bite and it was delicious. The proportion of ingredients was perfect, and I could taste them all in every bite. I wasn't super hungry, so I only ordered it with a single patty. I think next time I would order the double patty to get a little more of the beef flavor in the mix. This burger was very good, even with just a single patty. I also ordered a side of onion rings which were very good. The serving size was average, and they were nice and crispy and not oily. They have several dipping sauces which you can add to the order for free. My friend enjoyed his double ShackBurger, crinkle cut fries, and banana custard shake. I had some of the fries and they were fresh and crisp, and they obviously just came out of the fryer a very short time ago. Yes, they are a little on the expensive side, but there aren't a whole lot of bargains out there for a good burger. I've been to other locations of Shake Shack, but this was my first time at the Costa Mesa location. They're located on busy 17th street so you can't miss it! Lots of parking available in front and on the sides. I pulled up right when they opened at 11am and there was only one other person who came in after me. I ordered my food to go and they put it in a box so I could eat it in the car. The order taker was not very friendly - just matter of fact. I don't expect much but a smile would be nice. I ordered the ShackBurger which comes with cheese, tomato, lettuce & Shack sauce for $7.99. It's a good burger but the bun is a little rubbery to me. I also got an order of crinkle fries for $4.49, which were way over salted. There are better burger places out there, but if you're in the area and craving a burger, this will do. read more

I had dinner here today, 8/30/26, and everything was good. The store was clean and the burger and fries were prepared well and hit the spot. My review is really about the young man who waited on me. His name was Kai. When you enter the store the first thing you see are several computers for placing your order. I hate these. Perhaps if you ate here often enough you could breeze through the process with a few strokes. Being on the older side, I'm use to the old fashion way of giving my order to a real person. Just then, Kai asked if he could help me with my order. This young man was clean cut, bright eyed and very respectful. So much so, I feel he deserves some special recognition. But overall the burger was juicy, delicious and the fragrant truffle came thru in every bite so no complaints there. I love going to Shake Shack up in Brea, so I was keen on going to the Costa Mesa one since we were nearby. Overall my experience was a pleasant one! I always enjoy the Avocado Bacon Burger with double patties and their regular hamburger as well. The crinkle fries are good as well! This time I tried two products, the hot dog and ice tea lemonade. I was expecting the hotdog to be a little bit larger according to how I visualized the menu and as for the taste, it was pretty generic. The ice tea lemonade is more of a refreshing vibe, but if you prefer a more sweet taste, maybe need to add sweetener. I really enjoy that they have the calories listed on their online menu, for those who like to calorie count ^^! As always, I love Shake Shack haha. But plenty of seating outside, including umbrellas for shade. As usual, the regular Shack Burger with just a single patty hit the spot. I tried the BBQ Cheese Fries this time. There's BBQ powder sprinkled on top and optional BBQ sauce drizzle as well. It was fine, but I prefer the bacon cheese fries. I tried the Chocolate Salted Caramel Shake and didn't really care for it, so then I got a plain vanilla shake, but that was too plain. So next time I'll get the Cookies n Cream Shake. The onions were steaming and overall good burger. On the saltier side and doesn't have any veggies other than onion. There are non gender neutral bathrooms here as well but parking is tight. Expect to spend over $40 for two people if you're getting drinks and fries with your burgers. Stopped by last night , location on a busy street. Decent parking . I was warmly greeted by their staff upon arrival. Asked the front Clem to give me a few recommendations.. I wanted to see what the hype was all about , I ended up with a double shack burger and fried pickles and cheese fries and regular fries.. the smash burger was good I liked the concept and flavor and they use me whole lettuce versus shredded , the meat was seasoned just right and buns were buttery and toasty . They forgot my fried onions but it was not a deal breaker . Fried pickles were perfect .. great flavor on the batter and crust and it comes with ranch dipping sauce. Cheese fries and regular fries lacked .. that WOW factor for me tbh . They did have other seasoned items right now due to summer which is like to try on a future date . Well, not sure if it is this location, but the quality of the food is quite poor. Puny hamburgers for the price paid. Overcooked patties, very greasy. A total disaster. You expect to be eating a higher calorie meal when you get a burger, but for the quantity of food it seemed higher than it should be, making me think that everything is very processed/ not fresh.
