mochi matcha ice cream
Jasmine H.

I got the mochi ice cream and while the mochi was delicious, the quality of the matcha ice cream inside was pretty average. I did also get a strawberry matcha daifuku, which was enjoyable! The worker was very friendly. The place itself is in the Mitsuwa food court, so it's quite busy (depending on the time). I would need to come back to try more of the menu, which I am happy to do in the future.

Soft Noodles on top was a bit too sweet but I did like the matcha soft serve very creamy & intense matcha taste. Service was quick especially on a weekend it was packed on this food court. Be sure to keep an eye out on the table where they put the orders that are done, they come out fast.

Hojicha soft serve

This is a dessert spot in Mitsuwa with various dessert options. I tried the hojicha soft serve and it was just ok. The hojicha flavor wasn't very strong which I was a bit disappointed about. The hokkaido soft serve also wasn't as creamy as I anticipated -- it had an icy feel more than a milky feel.

My family and I used to LOVE the strawberry daifuku mochi and were repeat customers . But now the price is almost $5 PER mochi, and they're quite small. Just look at this one we ordered- ridiculous!! how small the strawberry is. It is a quarter slice of the mochi, but you can still see how ridiculously small the strawberry is. So disappointed. Will not be coming back anymore

I love matcha soft serves and was excited that this was near where I was hanging out. However, the soft serve was disappointing as it did not have too strong of a matcha taste and the soft serve texture was not what I normally expect. It was about $7 or so for the soft serve. I came at the tail end of the night so maybe that was a factor. Don't think I would be coming back though.

Matcha Mont Blanc Soft Serve

We came to Matcha Ren after having dinner nearby in Costa Mesa. Matcha Ren is located inside Mitsuwa Marketplace's food court. I was skeptical to try it at first since the rating was not high, definitely trust the reviews. As a matcha connoisseur, I thought that Matcha Ren fell short of my expectations. -- Matcha Mont Blanc Soft Serve [3/5]: The matcha taste was not strong enough and too milky for our liking. We shared the matcha mont blanc soft serve, but we ended up not finishing it. Having tried many other matcha soft serve places, Matcha Ren was not worth the price.

This spot has the best matcha and mochi I've had since Japan -- no exaggeration. The mochi is unbelievably soft, light, and just melts perfectly with every bite. And the matcha!!! So good. It's rich, earthy, and actually tastes authentic, the kind that immediately transports you back to a quiet café in Kyoto. Their mochi ice cream is a must, their matcha green tea is flawless, and the Mont Blanc ice cream is straight-up dreamy. Honestly, everything I've tried from here has been top-notch, delicious, amazing, and just superb all around. If you're craving a little taste of Japan, this is the place to go. Highly recommend!

Very, very little sesame coating (NOT ground paste) on my soft serve that barely has the taste or texture of sesame.

I really wanted to like Matcha Ren (located near the entrance of Mitsuwa Marketplace's food court), but the experience was disappointing overall -- especially given the high prices. I should had "consulted" with recent Yelp reviews so I could lower my expectations. :((( First off, the ordering process felt impersonal. There were staff available (not busy with other orders), yet I still had to use a self-serve kiosk since I had a question if there's a cone upgrade. When there's no crowd why not just take the order directly? I ordered the Hokkaido milk sesame soft serve, and it fell short. It wasn't creamy at all, and they were very stingy with the black sesame topping (see photo). The sesame was more of artificial dip-coating NOT grounded paste. The coating only covers the top with nothing at the bottom so the remaining portion was literally vanilla. For $7, the portion was small and definitely not worth the price. The one saving grace was the friendly server who handed me the drink -- they were kind and polite. But unfortunately, good service alone couldn't make up for the underwhelming soft serve and overpriced for small portions. I very rarely regret trying desserts so this is the first. Probably not worth coming back.

Matcha ice-cream on a cone

After shopping at Mistuwa Marketplace I ordered me a Matcha Ice-cream on a cone $7.43. You place your order on their kiosk (card only). The Matcha Ice-cream was pretty tasty. You can definitely taste the matcha.

Not too good. Not too bad. The bean paste tasted too much like red bean and not enough matcha. I hope they add more matcha powder to it! The warabimochi was alright as well.

Located inside the mitsuwa market, Matcha Ren is poppin!! I went for the sole reason of trying out the very instagram worthy matcha noodles which are actually made out of red beans! Soft serve was amazing too, with full matcha flavor. Even my not-so-matcha-fan bf was turned into a matcha fiend after trying this! Definitely recommend.

Matcha Ren is not bad. They are convenient for some fast dessert when you're at Mitsuwa, but I wish Mitsuwa had better dessert options. They are fast, overpriced, and quality is not really worth the price in my opinion. We tried a chocolate filled mochi with strawberry and Hokkaido milk soft serve. The Hokkaido milk soft serve was rich and creamy, but not worth the price. The mochi was okay. Overall, I'd come back only for convenience if I wanted dessert after having a meal at the delicious food court.

Naomy V.

Very excited to try it since it looks similar to the matcha in Japan! It was pretty good, the top noodle looking things have a slight almond taste since it's a month blanc. Not sure if I would be back but I glad I tried it. Wasn't too sweet which is great.

The matcha mont Blanc is so good. Please consider putting some kind of matcha Affogato on the menu!

The atmosphere is calm but not dead, which makes it easy to focus without feeling isolated. Food-wise, everything I've tried has been solid. Large party and they were very accommodating. Their crepes themselves have been very good. The day that it was ok, was on a Friday. They got our order wrong and it took about 25 minutes to remake it. It was a bistecca chimichurri and was a good steak (soft and juicy) but the sauce was just okay. Would have enjoyed more seasoning. $15 Le Salmon was good, solid but not amazing. Salmon itself was solid but not great $15 The omelette was overcooked dry and didn't have melted cheese- only feta. Was disappointing. Overall, still would return but I think there are good days and bad days, good orders and bad ones.

Anyway, it was worth seeking out. Our party of 5 swamped the poor guy working there. We ordered a lot of food, like a double brunch, because we were hitting the road for a long drive back to Northern California. So this one French guy (Yes, he really is French. He moved to Orange County from Paris, hence the name.) This French guy had to make us a couple of sandwiches, an omlette, and about 7 crepes. I felt sorry for him when I found out he was making the crepes one at a time and bringing them out as soon as each one was ready. I think he said his help has Mondays off. These crepes are like the best ever. We didn't want to tell him to stop because every one he brought out was absolutely fabulous. I'm pretty sure it was 7 crepes because we started with 4, and then my daughters and niece asked him to make 3 more. It was a good thing we weren't rushed for time. This is one spot we will definitely return to. We also learned that he is available and does crepes for corporate events. He brings his equipment and sets up in whatever location you want. That would make for a fun company event.

Oh my gosh! This place is amazing!…read more I came across this place on a random Yelp search while in the area, and man am I thankful that it did! This place doesn't have 4.9 stars @ ~300 reviews for no reason, trust me, they've earned it! :) I've had Egyptian cuisine before, but I've not had feteer until this evening. Calling it an Egyptian pizza is the easiest way to describe it, but I don't feel that does it proper justice. The various cheeses make for a complex flavor that matches well with the meat and creates a wonderful consistency with the double sided dough. It may appear small in size, but it's so full of cheesy, meaty, veggie, doughy goodness that one of these can easily feed two hungry adults no problem. On the owners recommendation we ordered a Halal Beef Soujok Kiri, and my son wanted to try the Beef Shawarma. He offered to add spice, so I had him add a bit to the Soujok and it really added as wonderful depth of flavor to the mix. Both were incredibly tasty though, and my family loved them! I also ordered a mixed "sweet pie" that had a row of Nutella, Lotus (Biscoff Cookie), and Sugar and Milk mix which allowed us to try all three flavors. My fam really loved the Nutella, but I enjoyed the Lotus more overall. Regardless, be sure to make room for dessert when you come here, because it's delicious! We also got a side of the spicy vegetables, which was a bit much for the kids, but my wife and I really enjoyed it. The owner also threw in a few Egyptian sodas - my kids loved the Orange flavored ones, but I recommend the Apple flavor as it's malted, which really gives it a unique flavor! :) The service was amazing! It was the owner holding the place down when we got there, but he was friendly, patient, and more than happy to explain everything and guide us to something that everyone was sure to enjoy! The ambiance is that of a small, family owned eatery. Some seating in the front with some music playing, and a small window into the back where you can see the magic happening as he whips up his wonderful creations! This place is top-shelf for sure! Even if you've never experienced Egyptian food before, I assure you this is one of the better ways to try it! The prices are reasonable, the owner is a great guy, and the food is amazing! I promise you won't be let down! We'll most certainly be returning, and I hope to see you there! :)
