Originally my party and I went as they sent us a coupon to redeem. However, upon trying to type it in, it didn't work. And in asking a staff member, he explained that they've been trying to tell the company to stop sending out discounts as the store doesn't accept any. So that was a little disappointing. We just order a regular matcha ice cream and we felt that it was a little stronger in matcha in the past - not sure if recipe changed.
Soft Noodles on top was a bit too sweet but I did like the matcha soft serve very creamy & intense matcha taste. Service was quick especially on a weekend it was packed on this food court. Be sure to keep an eye out on the table where they put the orders that are done, they come out fast.

This spot has the best matcha and mochi I've had since Japan -- no exaggeration. The mochi is unbelievably soft, light, and just melts perfectly with every bite. And the matcha!!! So good. It's rich, earthy, and actually tastes authentic, the kind that immediately transports you back to a quiet café in Kyoto. Their mochi ice cream is a must, their matcha green tea is flawless, and the Mont Blanc ice cream is straight-up dreamy. Honestly, everything I've tried from here has been top-notch, delicious, amazing, and just superb all around. If you're craving a little taste of Japan, this is the place to go. Highly recommend!

I love all things matcha, but I don't like how this place makes you pay by card or tap-to-pay if you're using a phone. Please try out this place when you're in Costa Mesa.

There were staff available (not busy with other orders), yet I still had to use a self-serve kiosk since I had a question if there's a cone upgrade. When there's no crowd why not just take the order directly? I ordered the Hokkaido milk sesame soft serve, and it fell short. It wasn't creamy at all, and they were very stingy with the black sesame topping (see photo). The sesame was more of artificial dip-coating NOT grounded paste. The coating only covers the top with nothing at the bottom so the remaining portion was literally vanilla. For $7, the portion was small and definitely not worth the price. The one saving grace was the friendly server who handed me the drink -- they were kind and polite. But unfortunately, good service alone couldn't make up for the underwhelming soft serve and overpriced for small portions. I very rarely regret trying desserts so this is the first. Probably not worth coming back.
After shopping at Mistuwa Marketplace I ordered me a Matcha Ice-cream on a cone $7.43. You place your order on their kiosk (card only). The Matcha Ice-cream was pretty tasty. You can definitely taste the matcha.
Not too good. Not too bad. The bean paste tasted too much like red bean and not enough matcha. I hope they add more matcha powder to it! The warabimochi was alright as well.

I finally got the chance to checked out this matcha soft serve spot that's tucked inside Mitsuwa's food court. Since I wanted more of a chill experience, I came on a weekday around 4pm. I highly recommend if you're not into crowds. There was only one person ahead of me and ordering was super easy through the kiosk. I went with the matcha and the hokkaido milk swirl on a cone. First bite, I tried the milk side on its own, and I loved how light it was. Not overly sweet. Then I tried the matcha by itself. It tasted earthy and had that matcha flavor. When I combined the swirl together , the matcha definitely took the spotlight. It kind of overpowered the milk swirl but I didn't mind it because I'm a matcha lover. It still balanced out nicely. Just more on the earthy matcha side. Oh, and let's not forget about the waffle cone. It was perfectly crunchy and tasted so good with my soft served. Also, shoutout to the employee who handed me my order. He was super friendly, welcoming, and all smiles which always makes the experience better. read more
matcha mont blanc ($9.2) - this is just a low quality diluted matcha mont blanc that doesn't taste satisfying nor does it taste like what it should be - the matcha isn't strong but too milky and light - mont blanc also wasn't thick enough with the flavor - super expensive for such a small cup and low quality - below average and would not recommend rating: 2/5 - this was below average with everything tasting diluted and low quality - ambiance is noisy and casual since it is located inside a supermarket IG: @nom.noms.only read more

Matcha Ren is not bad. They are convenient for some fast dessert when you're at Mitsuwa, but I wish Mitsuwa had better dessert options. They are fast, overpriced, and quality is not really worth the price in my opinion. We tried a chocolate filled mochi with strawberry and Hokkaido milk soft serve. The Hokkaido milk soft serve was rich and creamy, but not worth the price. The mochi was okay. Overall, I'd come back only for convenience if I wanted dessert after having a meal at the delicious food court. read more
While at Mitsuwa Marketplace, I was craving matcha and something cold and stumbled upon Matcha Ren. It's located right in the middle of the bustling food court, so there's plenty of communal seating available. A long line had already formed, which made it clear this spot is popular. I ordered the Matcha Mont Blanc and the Matcha Soft Serve Shake. The shake was refreshing, and the matcha soft serve was especially creamy. The Mont Blanc came topped with bean paste--I originally thought it was some kind of cream, so the taste threw me off a bit since I'm not used to the bean paste. Still, it wasn't bad. Overall, it's a busy spot great for a quick sweet treat. I'd come back again if I'm in the area and want matcha-flavored desserts. read more

Located in the Mitsuwa food court, Matcha Ren is a matcha-centric dessert establishment. The menu is pretty straightforward with a variety of options and different swirls to choose from. I always opt for the matcha soft serve here. The matcha flavor is on the stronger side with a slight bitterness. Service is usually quick and efficient. However, I do wish there was more than one ordering tablet. The setting can be quite hectic as the food court is a popular spot. Be prepared to be wait a little longer during peak hours. read more
The matcha soft serve was so yummy! It had an interesting texture which I enjoyed. It also has caffeine in it, so be ready to feel a bit of the caffeine hehe. The mochi crepe was good too, it had a creamy filling. The staff was friendly. They had indoor and some outdoor tables to enjoy your treats. read more

It is located inside Mitsuwa. There is a self order tablet that takes your order. There is only one person working so even though it is just ice cream the wait can be a bit long. I got the matcha and milk swirl for $6.90. The milk flavor was very yummy. It was rich and complemented the swirl really well. However I did not enjoy the matcha. It was grainy and I have had much better matcha ice cream before. This is a good spot for a late night snack since they stay open fairly late but it is not a place I would go out of my way to return to. read more
Lots of matcha dessert options, but I always come here for the Hokkaido Milk. I love anything Hokkaido milk and I'm glad I don't have to travel across the earth to get something similar. I believe they also use Hokkaido milk for their matcha so it will taste slightly different from the matcha you are accustomed to. read more

On a Saturday afternoon, it's not too bad of a wait anymore. It used to be very crowded and busy when they first opened, but now, it's better of a wait. They also changed it to a self order kiosk. The only confusing thing is the pickup is also where you order, so it might get a little squished and confusing. Got their Matcha Mont Blanc Soft Serve with the matcha and Hokkaido milk swirl. - Matcha Mont Blanc: Getting it, it looks great. You can choose the flavor of soft serve (I got the matcha/Hokkaido milk swirl), not sure if there's a charge though. The soft serve is a nice consistency, creamy, and not strongly matcha, but it's not bad. This is what people originally stopped by for when they opened. If this peaks your interest, I'd say it's not a bad choice. Overall, it's a good dessert spot for when you're in the store and want ice cream that's convenient. I think that for the size and quality that this is, it's quite on the pricier side. Might be a bit of a wait if they're understaffed, but when I went, it was not too bad (10 mins max). I don't think that this would be a place I'd go out of my way to go to though. read more

Ordered the parfait and I liked half of it - the matcha, fruit, and cream were the best part. Hidden in the cup were some pieces of mochi and the other half of the cup was the jelly. The jelly had no flavor and felt like a filler, so I'm taking a couple stars off my review. I probably would order something different next time but am glad I tried it. read more

I decided to try this place out while hanging out with my niece and nephew. I got the strawberry Mont Blanc, matcha drink, and a Hojicha shake. Overall, it was easy to place the order on the machine. There was a line but overall there wasn't a long wait. The drinks were good. The strawberry Mont Blanc was a great dessert. Not too sweet. There was seating available in the food hall area. read more

I've had quite a few matcha soft serve and this one is not on my top favorites. The does have a nice thick and creamy texture which is really good, but the flavor is just straight matcha. Slightly bitter (which I'm okay with) but not sweet at all. I like my ice cream to be a little sweet, this was just straight up match tea, so it didn't taste like soft serve or dessert at this point. Worth a try if you don't like sweets. I just like my matcha soft serve to have a good matcha taste and a good "ice cream"/soft serve flavor. You order through the tablet/ipad and the worker makes your order for you. She seemed nice. This place is located inside Mitsuwa so it's bit loud during lunch rush hour. read more
I have been meaning to try Matcha Ren for such a long time. I live closer to their pop up in downtown, but I found myself to be in the Costa Mesa area yesterday and I immediately thought to finally try out this spot. First off, I'd like to say that this spot is inside the Mitsuwa grocery store. Some people may be confused about that. I love that is inside though! There's so many seating areas and they even have a bar wrapped around the little pop up. I got the Montblanc Matcha Softserve and it was the creamiest matcha I've ever had in my entire life!!!! It literally made my day yesterday and I'm so glad I got to try this spot. They also had these delicious looking crepes that I wanted to so bad, but definitely the next time I come, I need to try them! read more

This place is located inside Mitsuwa market. Great desert option after indulging in some yummy Japanese food at other stalls. They offer all sorts of deserts but I really just want to see the quality of their soft serve. As far as taste the matcha can be a lil stronger and the Hokkaido milk tasted just a simple vanilla. I highly recommend the Hojicha Hokkaido milk soft serve! The roasted tea flavored drizzle goes so well with Hokkaido milk soft serve. The Strawberry matcha crepe was also yummy. The sweetness levels of both are perfect since the flavors advertised do come through. The wait time wasn't bad when I came in the afternoon, but it's definitely crowded since it's in the middle of the food court side of Mitsuwa. Parking could be a challenge as well. If I ever crave soft serve ice cream, I'll definitely be here! read more
Trust the reviews on this one! Ordered 2 desserts to share and we were not impressed with either. The items we planned to get were sold out (we were told the machine was broken). Every item is way over priced and serving size is small. This matcha spot is located in the food court area of Mitsuwa Marketplace. Location is great, but that was about it. Pictures on the screen when ordering should be how an item is served. My friend and I were sharing these desserts and if a crepe shows as served on a plate, that is what we expect. Instead, it was rolled up and handed to one of us. Luckily they had a to go box we were able to use to unwrap the crepe and cut it up. Overall, taste was lacking. Very light in flavor except strong, grainy and bitter matcha of the matcha mont blanc. Service was average and took less than 5 minutes to receive our order. read more
STEPH JUDGEMENT: Delicious and fresh matcha goodness. We were looking for dessert after lunch and my niece wanted to try this place. I got the matcha soft serve and my niece got the matcha crepe with banana, strawberry, ice cream, and choco syrup. Everything was delish! This place is my go-to every time I'm at Mitsuwa in Costa Mesa. I'm obsessed with their Matcha Mont Blanc -- it reminds me so much of the ones I had in Japan. It's actually kind of hard to find this dessert done right, but Matcha Ren nails it. The flavor has that perfect earthy matcha taste -- not too sweet, super smooth, and just really fresh. I usually get the one with Matcha soft serve and Hokkaido milk soft serve, and it's the perfect combo. The matcha on top has this silky, almost noodle-like texture that blends perfectly with the creamy soft serve underneath. It's honestly something I look forward to every time I'm here. If you love matcha or just want to try something different, you have to get this. Five stars, hands down. read more

First time trying Matcha Ren--I always see them have long lines when I visit Mitsuwa so I've stayed away :,) Today I came in at 8pm; no line. I saw they specialize in matcha however I decided to opt for their Hokkaido Milk since I had never tried that before. I ordered the Black Sesame Hokkaido Milk and it was pretty good! For $7.10 you get a soft serve ice cream made with Hokkaido milk, along with black sesame drizzled on top (which hardens from the cold ice cream). It's not too sweet which was perfect for me. I can't say much about service but they seemed friendly and my order came out promptly. I'd definitely come here again to try something else. Maybe the matcha next time. However, I have heard that their Hokkaido milk is the best. read more
