Went out to eat dinner at Northgate a little while back and came here for dessert. The line was pretty intimidating, esp for a Sunday night (it was a holiday weekend though, so that might have been a big factor as to why it was so busy there that night)...but even with the long line, it went by pretty quick. Love the simple decor and vibe of this place. You can see the churros being made to order, which is cool. Ordered a bunch of churros for our group; the condensed milk is def my favorite dipping sauce, but the chocolate and I think the other one is caramel...is good too. Tried to eat all the churros we ordered cuz I don't like them when they're not fresh. So needless to say, I was pretty filled up with churros by the time we were done. The milk chocolate shake and choco milk were a hit with the kids as well. Not a TON of tables and chairs to eat right where the spot is at, esp with a big group, but there are tables inside Northgate..again, if it's not crazy busy, you should be able to find a spot. It was towards the end of the night when we hit up El Moro, so we all moved our cars close together in the lot in front of where the churreria is located and hung out there. Parking - It's the Northgate market, so it can get crazy busy, esp during dinner time. Service - Very friendly and patient, esp since it was our first time there. read more

I made a stop at El Moro Churreria today after Lunch for the very best churros in town. They are an original from Mexico City. Founded in 1935 by Spanish immigrant Francisco Iriarte. If you'd like more info check out my previous reviews of El Moro. They churros are made as you order them. They are always fresh, hot and deliciously crunchy on the outside and soft on the inside. A must. You can watch them make the churros through a large window. They also just introduced a Mazapan shake that i have yet to try. It is basically a peanut butter shake. They now have 2 locations in SoCal. This one in Costa Mesa inside the Northgate market and another one in Echo Park (Los Angeles) Delicious Churros, great service, Lively spot. MUST TRY I SIDE NORTHGATE COSTA MESA! I had the iced Mexican chocolate and a churro. The churro was made to order and was delicious. At a price of $3 per churro it did not seem like a bad deal. You can also get an iced chocolate and churros with dip as a combo! The service was quick and efficient even though it was made to order! Yum yum yum!!! I visited once and now it's been 3 times since discovered last month. Northgate has so much to offer. The Churreria specifically has delicious churros, hot cocoa, and dipping sauces. I like to get the churro bites and 2-3 sauces to enjoy. There's a seasonal sauce right now guava which is delicious! I'm a chocoholic and always have to get a chocolate and caramel sauce. The line gets very long, as it should, since it is so popular. Once your order is in, you'll have time to wander the bakery and gifts sections to kill time. Personally, I like to watch the staff make the churros. It's fun to see how the magic happens with the machines and twirling. Northgate is great for everyone! It's huge, plenty of seating and even family friendly. Often folks go to the tv/dj area with multigenerational families to enjoy whatever big sporting event is on. It made me wondered if these churros are good when reheated. I only got the smallest order since I wanted to try them fresh, but I might order more next time to see how they reheat. Date of Visit: 6/7/26 Time of Visit: 1:30pm We were in Orange County and craved some fresh churros. My wife had heard about a churro place inside of a very large Gonzalez Supermarket in Costa Mesa. We walked into the market, and it was absolutely huge! It resembled a food hall inside of a regular market. We travelled through the store and made our way to the churro stand, which was right next to the market's bakery. After waiting in line for a few minutes, I ordered the churro bites since it easy to share with my wife. After paying for the churros, you can actually watch at the window the process in wish the churros are fried up. It was a sight to see for sure. The churros bites were super hot and fresh. The server totally blanketed our bites with yummy cinnamon sugar. Each churro bite was a crispy on the outside and chewy on the inside. It was really, really good. I will want to try the full size churros next time for sure, and perhaps try some dipping sauces. Cute churro shop in Northgate! It alwaysssss has a line so we decided to try it. They have seasonal flavors and snacks which look so good. During Christmas, they had gingerbread churros with egg nog ice cream! We came today for the mango ice cream sandwich but ended up doing chocolate. The sandwich itself was super doughey and undercooked. It was dripping oil and was so hot that it made the ice cream melt fast. For the caffeine sensitive people, they have decaf espresso! I got an iced horchata latte with decaf. Not as creamy & full bodied like authentic horchata as I hoped for, but it was a yummy sweet treat. Next time I will ask for less sweet and/or an extra espresso shot because I think it only comes with one. The iced bittersweet chocolate is delicious & perfect consistency - thicker than your typical sweet chocolate, but not as thick & heavy as European hot chocolate. Fun place to grab dessert. I usually ask for no sugar since their choux pastry dough is just right- specially when you get the churros with the español coco- perfect nice thick dipping hot cocoa with the right amount of bitterness and sweet. One word: YUM! Love coming to Northgate, and it's even better with a sweet treat in hand. El Moro is my go to spot if I'm looking for churros when I'm in South OC. Their stand is across from the bakery within the Northgate but they also have their own entrance if you don't want to walk through the hustle and bustle of the market. Decorated almost entirely with small tiles, it is a really cute place that's slinging out great churros. All you gotta do is order at a window where a cashier will take down your order and then wait in the side for your freshly made churros. I'm always down for a classic churro hot chocolate combo (French is my preference for the richness) but if you're trying to beat the heat, you can't go wrong with condensed milk either. I will say it does air on the sweet side but I view it as a small indulgence every now and again. Every crispy bite makes it worth it! read more

We had a churro with white chocolate sugar and dipped it into caramel, chocolate, and condensed milk. These churro is nothing special and took way too long to make. I waited about 15 mins for this. They're not frying enough churros in the oil and the employees seem either new or really slow. There was a crowd waiting and some even had their orders messed up. The only way to have a churro is a fresh churro, so if you're not getting these churros fresh out of the fryer, are you even living? There's usually a line for these, which means they're constantly churning them out so you're basically guaranteed a hot, crispy churro the moment you order. They are decently sized too, well over a foot long, though they have minis available if you're feeling modest (no judgment). The dipping sauces are a great addition to the churros. The dark chocolate has this unexpected blueberry-ish, fruity vibe that sounds weird but somehow pairs *perfectly* with the sweetness of the churro. They also have condensed milk, caramelized milk, and caramel if chocolate isn't your thing (thought I highly recommend the chocolate!) Bonus points for the tables if waiting until you get home to enjoy the churros may be too difficult: after all, the point of these is to have them as fresh as they come. They also have hot chocolate and other treats, but the churros is what I came for. I am sure I will make a return trip though and if the dipping chocolate is any indicaiton of how the hot choclate is, it may be something I'll need to try on my return visit! read more

I got a trio of dipping sauces to try: Cajeta (not for me), chocolate (a classic), and guava (also not for me with churros). Next time I will skip the sauces and just enjoy the churros alone. Located inside the Northgate Mercado on the left. Its modern and minimalistic design drew our attention, reminiscent of Disneyland even to their open kitchen concept where you can see through the glass panes what they're doing. We had to try a churro. We got their seasonal flavor which is a gingerbread flavor for $3.50. IT WAS SO GOOD. Light and fluffy churro, not hefty, not dense, not rich. I see why you can pair it with a dip. We're not sure how to describe the exact notes and flavor of the gingerbread because it isn't what we expected when we heard "gingerbread" but the flavor was gooood. Would 10/10 get again. When I first heard Churrería El Moro came straight from Mexico City, I was excited. The anticipation was real. As someone who has spent years going to the churro truck on Lorena and Whittier in Boyle Heights, I was eager to see how it compared. Unfortunately, I left extremely disappointed. The churro itself was bland and lacked the flavor and warmth that make a great churro memorable. While I understand the vegan approach, the churro, being the star seemed to rely entirely on the dipping sauces for flavor. The star of the experience should be the churro itself...not the dip. The traditional cinnamon and sugar flavor that most people associate with an authentic churro was simply missing. The recipe may come from tradition, but the execution falls short of delivering the authentic experience it promises. In my opinion, the restaurant's popularity is driven more by the appeal of its Mexico City roots and prime location than by the quality of the churros themselves. I wanted to love it. It can be a few bucks if you just want a single churro or a little bit more if you want a bunch of mini churros which isn't too bad. I think mine was a tiny bit overcooked but it didn't ruin it. My favorite churros! I was so excited this was opening in Costa Mesa as I've been to the original in Mexico City. It's located inside Northgate Market and if you walk in on the left entrance. There can be a line since it's a popular spot but things move quickly. You can also order ahead online but I always just order in person since I go during off peak hours. I order 4 churros and that's a good amount for myself and another person to enjoy. I've tried the hot chocolate and it's very rich and creamy. I've also had the chocolate dipping sauce which is good and not too sweet but I enjoy the churros by itself. They always come out super fresh and dipped on cinnamon sugar. It's located inside the Northgate Market so it's always fun walking around and checking things out. There are tables inside as well as outside on the patio to eat. The service here is a 3 stars for me but the churros are good. The guy working the counter was kind of rude. No hello or anything. Just awkward silence. I got the combo, which consists of 4 churros, a hot chocolate and dipping sauce. I'm not sure if I'm allowed to choose the type of hot chocolate but he didn't ask. There's no labels or signs at all and I blindly chose what I assumed to be the cajeta- caramel but it didn't taste like caramel. They make it how it's done in Spain and Mexico, and dare I say better than most places in California. They're crispy, light, airy, and they're served with the right dips. They're made fresh.
