matcha mont blanc ($9.2) - this is just a low quality diluted matcha mont blanc that doesn't taste satisfying nor does it taste like what it should be - the matcha isn't strong but too milky and light - mont blanc also wasn't thick enough with the flavor - super expensive for such a small cup and low quality - below average and would not recommend rating: 2/5 - this was below average with everything tasting diluted and low quality - ambiance is noisy and casual since it is located inside a supermarket IG: @nom.noms.only

This place used to be called Matcha REN. Now it's called United Matcha. I approached the counter and it's a self service order kiosk. I didn't see any workers and thought that was weird. I ordered then waited 5 mins. I saw no one coming so I walked around to double check. I see the young girl worker crouched down in the corner (of the round stand alone booth) on her phone. I had missed seeing her because the first time I walked around because she was crouched down. I said hello!!I I ordered! She jumped up and said oh! And made my matcha soft serve in 2 seconds. No sorry. And they dared asked me for a tip on the automated kiosk! matcha soft serve was ok I've had better.

Soft Noodles on top was a bit too sweet but I did like the matcha soft serve very creamy & intense matcha taste. Service was quick especially on a weekend it was packed on this food court. Be sure to keep an eye out on the table where they put the orders that are done, they come out fast.

Originally my party and I went as they sent us a coupon to redeem. However, upon trying to type it in, it didn't work. And in asking a staff member, he explained that they've been trying to tell the company to stop sending out discounts as the store doesn't accept any. So that was a little disappointing. We just order a regular matcha ice cream and we felt that it was a little stronger in matcha in the past - not sure if recipe changed.

I tried mochi , matcha shake, and Mont Blanc soft serve. I like both matcha cream mochi and matcha ice cream mochi. For the reason that match flavor was strong there. For the shake and Mont Blanc. They are also good, but could be better. Matcha flavor was not that strong.

There's been a rebrand! New name is United Matcha and the menu has slightly changed. No more hokkaido milk ice cream or their pints :(

I love matcha soft serves and was excited that this was near where I was hanging out. However, the soft serve was disappointing as it did not have too strong of a matcha taste and the soft serve texture was not what I normally expect. It was about $7 or so for the soft serve. I came at the tail end of the night so maybe that was a factor. Don't think I would be coming back though.

We came to Matcha Ren after having dinner nearby in Costa Mesa. Matcha Ren is located inside Mitsuwa Marketplace's food court. I was skeptical to try it at first since the rating was not high, definitely trust the reviews. As a matcha connoisseur, I thought that Matcha Ren fell short of my expectations. -- Matcha Mont Blanc Soft Serve [3/5]: The matcha taste was not strong enough and too milky for our liking. We shared the matcha mont blanc soft serve, but we ended up not finishing it. Having tried many other matcha soft serve places, Matcha Ren was not worth the price.

This spot has the best matcha and mochi I've had since Japan -- no exaggeration. The mochi is unbelievably soft, light, and just melts perfectly with every bite. And the matcha!!! So good. It's rich, earthy, and actually tastes authentic, the kind that immediately transports you back to a quiet café in Kyoto. Their mochi ice cream is a must, their matcha green tea is flawless, and the Mont Blanc ice cream is straight-up dreamy. Honestly, everything I've tried from here has been top-notch, delicious, amazing, and just superb all around. If you're craving a little taste of Japan, this is the place to go. Highly recommend!

I got the mochi ice cream and while the mochi was delicious, the quality of the matcha ice cream inside was pretty average. I did also get a strawberry matcha daifuku, which was enjoyable! The worker was very friendly. The place itself is in the Mitsuwa food court, so it's quite busy (depending on the time). I would need to come back to try more of the menu, which I am happy to do in the future.

This is a dessert spot in Mitsuwa with various dessert options. I tried the hojicha soft serve and it was just ok. The hojicha flavor wasn't very strong which I was a bit disappointed about. The hokkaido soft serve also wasn't as creamy as I anticipated -- it had an icy feel more than a milky feel.

Very, very little sesame coating (NOT ground paste) on my soft serve that barely has the taste or texture of sesame.

I really wanted to like Matcha Ren (located near the entrance of Mitsuwa Marketplace's food court), but the experience was disappointing overall -- especially given the high prices. I should had "consulted" with recent Yelp reviews so I could lower my expectations. :((( First off, the ordering process felt impersonal. There were staff available (not busy with other orders), yet I still had to use a self-serve kiosk since I had a question if there's a cone upgrade. When there's no crowd why not just take the order directly? I ordered the Hokkaido milk sesame soft serve, and it fell short. It wasn't creamy at all, and they were very stingy with the black sesame topping (see photo). The sesame was more of artificial dip-coating NOT grounded paste. The coating only covers the top with nothing at the bottom so the remaining portion was literally vanilla. For $7, the portion was small and definitely not worth the price. The one saving grace was the friendly server who handed me the drink -- they were kind and polite. But unfortunately, good service alone couldn't make up for the underwhelming soft serve and overpriced for small portions. I very rarely regret trying desserts so this is the first. Probably not worth coming back.

After shopping at Mistuwa Marketplace I ordered me a Matcha Ice-cream on a cone $7.43. You place your order on their kiosk (card only). The Matcha Ice-cream was pretty tasty. You can definitely taste the matcha.

Anyway, it was worth seeking out. Our party of 5 swamped the poor guy working there. We ordered a lot of food, like a double brunch, because we were hitting the road for a long drive back to Northern California. So this one French guy (Yes, he really is French. He moved to Orange County from Paris, hence the name.) This French guy had to make us a couple of sandwiches, an omlette, and about 7 crepes. I felt sorry for him when I found out he was making the crepes one at a time and bringing them out as soon as each one was ready. I think he said his help has Mondays off. These crepes are like the best ever. We didn't want to tell him to stop because every one he brought out was absolutely fabulous. I'm pretty sure it was 7 crepes because we started with 4, and then my daughters and niece asked him to make 3 more. It was a good thing we weren't rushed for time. This is one spot we will definitely return to. We also learned that he is available and does crepes for corporate events. He brings his equipment and sets up in whatever location you want. That would make for a fun company event.

It is a unique concept and the place has a following. The dining area is small, but cozy and has a bistro feel, pictures of Paris adorn the walls (the restroom too) and there is French music to blend well with the simple ambiance. We ordered several items. First my Americano coffee (made with Italian espresso), was only good for a few sips, just too sweet for me. Second, the Quiche Maison (traditional French recipe, eggs, tomato, spinach, cheddar cheese). While this pie slice was soft and tasty, it was thin and could have easily passed off for pizza. What it lacked was the usual thickness one sees in a quiche slice, gives it body and also embeds the rich flavor of eggs and cream. Then came the crepes. The tomato and bacon was well received, as was the strawberry crepe. In this department, the crown goes to Crepe Suzette (orange syrup, orange zest, creme anglaise and whipped cream). It had optimum softness, the right amount of sweetness, chew and yes, butter. Truly a heavenly treat for the taste buds. Service is very slow, but rewarding. So if you are not in a hurry and are in the mood for fresh French brunch items, give this place a visit.

He even took the time to show them how the food was prepared, which they loved! We enjoyed sitting outside and taking in the evening air. While the market itself doesn't really have the best aesthetic or ambiance, they have enough seating to fit large crowds. My go-to order is the cheesecake crepe with strawberries and blueberries. No other place does it like they do because they use actual slices of real cheesecake inside instead of just a cream cheese/cheesecake spread. As long as they keep that the same, I'll be a customer for life. My only 'complaint' (or more so just a wish) is that I really miss the late-night street stand days. Now that they've focused on the 4th St Market shop, the hours are a bit shorter, which makes it harder to stop by after work. I feel like late night is when the cravings hit. I'd love to see those late-night hours come back, but either way, the place is still 10/10. I haven't tried other of their new or updated menu items but I'm sure they're all great.
