In my opinion, it would be nice if they had a complimentary water dispenser like other cafes. We didn't see it when we went and were hoping to get water after eating dessert. They offer a variety of flavors and offer a signature Matcha Strawberry French Mousse cake. It was a Sunday afternoon and no one was around so the service was quick. The little cafe has ample seating and is clean and nice with velvet chairs. If you choose not to eat in their facility, there are chairs outside across the way. The cake was a short bread crust with a frozen strawberry within the mousse pearl. It wasn't overly sweet but you also couldn't taste the matcha. It's worth a try. read more

This is my first time trying Yu's cake after hearing the brand for a while. I believe this location is brand new opening since it's very empty. It's also a challenge to find the store since it located in a deep inside the busy mall of South Coast Plaza. When we came, there were lots of missing items. I was excited to try their boba drinks but ended up disappointed right after. Even though we did mention to add boba in the drink, somehow the cashier didn't catch it and I ended up with a boba-less drink. However, I still didn't bother about it since I don't want to cause a scene for a drink but the taste of my order is bad... I ordered matcha milk and believe me when I say, the drink tasted exactly like Horizon Organic Milk in a form of a green cup. However, again, I tried to fool myself with the mindset that: "Hey, it's a cake brand, let's just focus on the cakes!" We did mention dine-in when completing the order but still they boxed our cake... I came to the counter politely ask if you guys have any plate I could use to put my dessert out and dine in? The staff said sorry we ran out of plates... I mean, there is no one besides us at the store and the guys said that they ran out of plates and utensils? We ended up finishing our order at home since there is no welcoming spirit at the store. On the bright side, their cake stands for their reputation! Very beautiful both outside and tasted inside! Lol. I actually enjoyed -like really, really -enjoyed- the strawberry matcha mousse cake from here. And so did my 85 year old papa. Perfectly sweet with the most delightful flavors. As a baker myself, I was impressed with this dessert. $10.75 for that mousse cake but I'd purchase again. There were so many beautiful looking cakes that I can't wait to come back and try them all. Durian. Taro. Blueberry. Cheesecakes. Chocolate cakes. I might just go crazy and splurge. Who needs to pay electricity bills. Also ordered a taro milk drink + latte. My wife and I visited here while we were at South Coast Plaza. First, the positives. It's a very classy looking store with comfortable seating both inside and outside. The gentleman who served me behind the counter was very friendly and prompt. The array of cakes is impressive and visually appealing. It has sort of Lady M vibe. I had the mango mousse tart and the price was very high --- I suppose not surprising for such a high end mall. However, the pastry didn't live up to the price. The mango mousse wasn't all that creamy or incredibly tasty: high end pastries should melt in your mouth. This one didn't. The chocolate that surrounded the mousse it was so hard it couldn't be cut with a fork. My wife and I had to break the chocolate with our hands to eat it. Finally, the biscuit the pastry sat on was hard: again we had to use our hands to break the biscuit. The mango jelly at the center of the pastry tasted good but wasn't particularly special. My friend and I were in South Coast Plaza and then we heard that Yu Cake opened near Sak's Fifth Avenue so we were excited to try it. Since it's located in the mall, there's a lot of parking available with their multiple lots and their garage. Inside of the cafe there's a lot of seating available inside as well as some tables set up outside. They had a lot of options from slices of crepe cakes to box cakes and even drinks. There were two ways ordering -- self service kiosk and with a cashier. Even though they're known for their crepe cakes, my friend and I were excited to try their box rose oolong cheese cake because the flavor seemed so good! But to be honest, it was a little disappointing. I felt like there was a lot of cream cheese frosting and very little cake, which gave it a strong tart flavor. I did like how on the bottom of it there were lychee bits though! I also could taste a prominent rose flavor but not the oolong. An awesome new dessert place in South Coast plaza located right next to Sam's Fifth Avenue. The selection of single slice cakes is very impressive and there are even some pretty original options such as the matcha berry and durian. Honestly it's hard to choose just one slice to get. There is also a refrigerator on the side with a bunch of other interesting options such as chewy cubes and mochi jars. The place itself is nicely decorated and quite stylish- no surprise for a place at SCP. While I was browsing the place I was asked if I needed help which is always appreciated. The slices are about $10 each, with some being over $11. So a bit pricy overall but these fancy cake places tend to be like this. I am definitely going to be returning here so I can try out more flavors soon! read more
