Ate it with great joy & delight. So delicious, so delectable. One thing I don't get is how there's over 8k photos here when the sign clearly says no photography and no video, but lots of people still love to take photos. I have to go back to cream pan whenever I'm in socal. Everything still tastes great and they still have all the pastries I enjoy. During my recent trip here, I got cream Puffs (my favorite) and the strawberry croissant. There was a short line but it moved quickly. Customer service was average, and they keep the line moving. I would've ordered more, but was flying back to sac in a few hours so had to limit what I ordered to bring back. This location is the original and it is crowded inside since they sell goods also. The self service, pre-made lunch bentos, sandos and sushi area is fine, but once you need assistance from a worker, it starts getting ridic. How so? You speak to whomever is attempting to assist you OVER and UNDER a twenty-four year old counter area that holds the pastries and/or through a tiny hole in the cabinets. You can hardly make eye contact with the person, because all the pastry is in between where you are standing and where they are standing. Some people are tall, some short, but regardless, there is NO WAY to have a conversation with them. They are trying to see what exactly you are possibly pointing to in the case, but as noted, you're talking thru a case of pastry. This is also true at the Fountain Valley location, where they only have a very small counter to check out with many people standing in line trying to have someone collect their order from the back. Maybe also ask WHY there is never any KINAKO donuts? I was there at 11 am and I got THE LAST ONE! If these are so popular, why don't you make enough to sell throughout the day? Every other time I've been here, you were already SOLD OUT! SMH HAS ANYONE HERE SEEN THE SELF SERVICE process at 85 degrees? All their pastry is individually wrapped and you calmly walk through the SELF SERVICE pastry area with a tray and tongs to help yourself. If you'd like to pass the person in front of you, it's easy and doable because there is plenty of room and it doesn't make anyone feel like you are taking "cuts". Once you get to the end, the cashier totals up your tray and puts it in a bag or box for you. Done & Done. Let me reiterate that your pastry and food are all above par and I know you've been in business since 2002 and let me commend you for 24 years of service, but it's time to CHANGE IT UP to a more user friendly process. We have made pit stops at this OG branch of Cream Pan in Tustin over the years. The location of this well-known Japanese/French bakery was unusual in that it's isolated in a corner of the El Camino Plaza. I had expected the business to be in a more high volume area, however a benefit of their corner spot was that the parking lot had plenty of spaces. There's no indoor seating, but outdoor tables were set up along the north and east perimeters of the building. I was by myself at this latest visit, and it was close to the end of the day so the inventory was quite depleted. There was no line at all which was not a surprise. The famous Strawberry Croissants and prepackaged items were on refrigerated display to the left when you walked in. As the service counter rounded a corner, there were more fresh baked goods on display before you reached a register. Across from the registers were shelves containing bags of fresh bread products. I bought a Strawberry Croissant, a Sticky Bun, a Ham and Cheese Croissant, and an Apple Croissant. The quality of the pastry dough was very good, and I could see why the Strawberry Croissant was a favorite with the customers. The croissants were light and flakey, and the powdered sugar added a delicate topping to the strawberry version. If I were to rate on just the Strawberry Croissant, then it would be five stars. My overall rating was downgraded because of the customer traffic flow. The lines can be optimized so that if you wanted to buy a six-pack of the Strawberry Croissants and/or anything prepackaged, then a separate queue should be arranged for those customers. The cafeteria trays were of limited use if you were not getting a large number of items. As you advanced in the queue, other products had to be requested from a worker behind the counter and then those were not placed on the tray. There was a short line out the door but it moved quickly, just make sure you don't leave the door open. If the line inside is full keep the door closed till it gets shorter then go inside. The have both sweet and savory pastries. The sweet ones are out front as you pass the case facing the door. The savory selections are featured after you turn the corner of the counter. They also have sandwiches as well as a Karaage and musubi combo which I want to try. I got the iconic strawberry croissant which was flakey and had a bit of custard and a few slices of strawberry inside. It's 2 maybe 3 bites. It was delicious but I think I prefer the azuki cream pan. The azuki cream pan was filled with azuki bean and had a light sweet cream filling too. The combination of the 2 made for a delightful taste and texture. The process is easy, stand in line, order the items as you see them. So sweet items first then savory. If you want a bunch of sandwiches or musubi then grab a tray. I've been buying their cakes and strawberry croissants for the past year for birthdays and other celebrations. The fruit tarts, strawberry shortcake, and chocolate cakes have just the right amount of sweetness and they're fresh and consistently good. If you need to buy large cakes, I recommend going when they open. Otherwise, I've had no issues going a few hours after open and still being able to get single cakes. Service: Removed a star because the flow of the store is awful and it's chaotic to order because you can barely see over the counter. I've been a customer since the 90's. But with my blood sugar climbing, my doctor suggested I tone down my consumption of carbs. So I am not here so much anymore but still love this place and buy a box full when I have company. Everything I've ever had has been good to great, except for one bakery item - the donut - and the coffee. Not a fan of those two items. My favorite item is their blueberry croissant. The open face pastry with blueberries on a light bed of custard. especially when warmed in an air fryer for a few minutes is perfect. Most love their custard and strawberry filled croissant, not very big but just enough as a sweet after a nice meal. Their almond croissant is great, chock full of almonds on top and almond paste inside. The blueberry scones are great with coffee - flakey and moist blueberries. Apple croissant and b utter croissant are buttery and tasty. Again best warmed up in a conventional oven or air fryer. Microwaving (which only rotates the water molecules inside a baked good) kills the crisp texture. I have not tried pork bun, sandwiches, or other newer items I wish they would make eclairs or cream puffs. They also have some cake slices and a beautiful and delicious but pricey tiny fruit tart. There are tables outside. But i don't like their coffee so I always end up taking my purchased items home. One warning - during busy times, the line is out the door and they will sometimes run out. One of my favorite items is the tuna butter roll, but it wasn't available. I was hovering over the sandwich aisle when I asked a BOH lady if there was any tuna sandwiches left. She said no and left to drop off some pastries she was holding; to my surprise, she came back holding a few pieces of bread and asked how many tuna butter rolls I wanted. I answered two and she went to the back to start making them. At this point, I was shocked and highly appreciative of the hospitality she displayed. Sure, some workers are pretty rude (especially if you come during the busy hours) but this interaction warmed my heart. I was so grateful for the small gesture. AMBIENCE: (4/5) - Very small space for how busy it is. - Everything seems overall very clean. - They are constantly restocking their baked goods but a lot of things were already out by the time we got there at around 2PM so be sure to go early! SERVICE: (4/5) - Very long line but it moves fast. - Very quick that you have to decide what you want or else you'll hold up the line! FOOD/DRINKS: (5/5) - Strawberry Croissant (5/5): Omg so so light and flaky and yet sweet but just the right amount that you won't feel sick after. One of the best versions that I've ever tasted before. No wonder we saw people leaving out with literal platters of these things out the door. OVERVIEW: (5/5) - We came here to try the Cream Pan but missed it since they were already sold out. However we found ourselves another gem in the strawberry croissants.
