Okidoki has been on my to-try list for a while. I finally dropped in for lunch recently and had a pleasant experience. There's an on-site waitlist and a Yelp waitlist. Lunch wasn't too bad a wait, but I hear dinner is busy. The menu offers plenty of classic Japanese dishes along with seasonal specials. The udon noodles are made fresh in-house daily. Plenty of care is taken to ensure the quality of all the food. The combos also offer good value and generous portions. My most recent order was the shabu shabu beef udon and assorted tempura. I enjoyed both these dishes. The udon broth was clean and flavorful with nicely cooked udon noodles. The beef was a bit chewy but had good flavor, especially when dipped in the ponzu sauce. I would upgrade to spicy if I ordered this entrée again. The assorted tempura was cooked fresh, had a nice, crispy texture, and didn't feel greasy. The drink menu offers sake, shochu, local and Japanese beers, sodas, lemonade, tea, and more. The happy hour menu looks great, too. I had a great lunch experience overall. The staff was kind and attentive. I didn't have to wait long for a table. The prices are fair for the quality and quantity they offer. The dining area was clean and fairly spacious. I can't wait to dine in again.

Always excellent food and service! Delicious Authentic Japanese selections. A smaller comfortable restaurant.

Must try the spicy beef udon! This place has been on my to-go list for a long time. I've been to Meiji Seimen which is a sister restaurant and this place gives a similar ambiance. The menu and pricing is the same too. The service was great, they were attentive and provided relevant recommendations. The highlight of this experience was definitely the entree: spicy beef udon (level 3 spice). I love a hot and spicy dish so would highly recommend it to anyone with a similar palette. They also provide a small portion of rice to absorb the soup flavoring when you've finished your udon.

Yummy noodle spot! I ordered the shabu shabu udon but subbed the udon for soba. The soba is amazing so I was happy they accomodated for the substitution. The broth was flavorful and the beef was plentiful and tender. The staff here are friendly and the food came out relatively quickly as well. Great spot for udon and soba!

Decided to stop by since we were in the mood for Meiji but near Tustin. Happy that their menu was similar to their Costa Mesa location. There's definitely a shorter wait here and it's a bit more spacious which is nice. As for the food, I tried their spicy beef udon since it was a cold day. It is pretty pricy for what it is - "spicy" soupy udon with a few shavings of beef. If you want it to have enough spiciness to feel it, you'll have to pay an extra $1.5. It came with a crispy rice ball with a bit of cheese inside to eat with your leftover soup. The taste of everything was really good! I was especially surprised at how much I enjoyed the rice ball. Is it worth the price? Considering it's mostly carbs, soup, and a very disappointing amount of beef, I would say it's a bit overpriced. But again, it was really yummy! Service was good when we could grab someone's attention. Otherwise, since we were sitting in a corner that was easily hidden behind the small wall at the front, it was hard to tag anyone down.

Been awhile since my last visit, looks like it's now a udon and soba specialty restaurant. Decent food for a casual lunch. Service is friendly. Blue crab roll is hefty sized but there's not much blue crab flavor. A bit disappointing on the kimchi nabe udon (a seasonal dish)... it tastes a bit more sweet than spicy/savory, udon is overcooked. Zaru soba and gyoza are standard.

I've been to Meiji Semen, the original location, and the only difference between the two is the Okidoki has spacious seatings and has sashimi/sushi rolls on their menu. The quality of their udon and soba is still the same. We got there pretty early, but it got crowded quick. I ordered the spicy beef udon and it comes in a hot pot style. It's very delicious and is my go to udon. We tried their fried pork katsu rice bowl and it was pretty basic; nothing special. The guy who served us was okay. The salmon was good and its skin was crispy. It was a good side dish.

Delicious food, reasonable prices, and excellent customer service! The staff are super friendly. I ordered the cold spicy tsuke soba, which is a unique menu item--it was delicious, and I really loved the combination of tororo and spicy broth. The soba noodles had a great texture. The negi toro don was fresh and delicious as well. My daughter ordered the egg tororo udon, which was very flavorful. We both grew up in Japan and were so happy to find this place in OC. We'll definitely be back soon!

I don't really crave Japanese soups, but my friend suggested eating here. I ordered the shabu shabu soba, which was not on the menu, but I was torn between beef curry soba and wanting shabu as the meat and the server offered a shabu shabu and soba combination. This was surprisingly filling and came in super hot. I got to try my friend's udon and that was just as good. If you like soba or udon, either hot or cold, here you go. Most noodle dishes were under $20. I saw that they had a crab udon on Tuesdays and Wednesdays only for dinner for $28, and looking at that photo made me salivate, so I may just come back for that alone. Service was good and parking was free and easy.

It was my first time at Okidoki and the spicy beef udon was quite tasty! I loved the texture of the udon which was chewy and not too soft. Flavor of the broth was good too. Food came out relatively quick. I can't wait to come back to try the other (udon) dishes.

Food: Spicy Beef Udon (8.3/10) - It comes with a crispy rice cheese ball that I was told by a staff that you eat with the broth after finishing the udon. The rice ball was definitely crispy and tasted good dipped in the broth, but it did not have much cheese so I would give it a 6/10. Still a fun and unique addition. The spicy beef udon itself felt like eating hotpot since it stayed warm the entire time with a flame underneath. The broth had a nice flavor with a mild level of spice. If you want it spicier or a larger bowl, that unfortunately does cost extra. There was a decent amount of beef that was flavorful along with a few vegetables. Service: The staff were kind and helpful and checked in on us occasionally. I went on a Friday and there was a waitlist, which we joined using the tablet outside. Some people also joined ahead of time through Yelp and I'd prefer to do that next time. Ambiance: Clean, bright, and cozy spot with a small window that looks into the kitchen and a bar seating area. The space is average sized and very casual. It was a nice place to be on a rainy day like when I went.

Saw this place on social media and decided to give it a try. We ordered the viral spicy beef udon, and since I like spicy food, I upgraded to extra spicy (there is a $1 upcharge). The flavor was great--rich broth, a good amount of beef, and a generous portion of udon. It wasn't spicy to me personally, but it was still very enjoyable and didn't taste artificial at all. The udon also comes with a cheese ball on the side. After you finish the noodles, you're supposed to drop the cheese ball into the remaining soup and let it cook down into a risotto-like texture. Honestly, I enjoyed the cheese ball "risotto" even more than the udon itself--it was so good. We also ordered the chicken karaage as an appetizer and absolutely loved it. It was super crispy and cooked perfectly. Service really stood out. The servers checked in on us regularly, and I appreciated that our server took the time to explain how to eat the cheese ball. If she hadn't explained it, we probably would've just eaten it on the side and missed out. Attention to detail and being polite truly makes a difference. Overall, I really enjoyed the ambience, the service, and the food. Will definitely be coming back.

    Katsu Curry Udon
    Truc T.

Loved my experience! After having some Japan withdrawals & craving something savory & crispy, the Katsu Curry Udon definitely hit the spot. Udon was cooked to the perfect tenderness, chicken was juicy/crunchy, & most importantly, the curry tasted like home cooked meal with love. The waiters suggested to take home the curry & pair with rice, which was amazing! Since rich naturally has starch, it made the curry udon a bit thicker consistency, it was a great take home meal. Great place for a quick date, dinner, or family meal.

Does the inside have central air conditioning (HVAC) and/or air purifier(s) to filter indoor air?

The place does have central air conditioning. No air purifiers though.

How many ounces of beef are served in the spicy beef udon, or in an order of extra beef?

Thank you so much for asking us question. Spicy Beef Udon has 2.5oz of beef and we have additional option for Extra Beef.

Is the place really closed for lunch Monday -Friday??? That's too bad. Been wanting to come here for lunch since we work near by.

Yes, they only open for lunch on Saturdays and Sundays

Do they still have bento boxes?

    Unfortunately no more

Last time we were here, we ordered the shishito peppers, but they were really spicy - almost at the level of Serrano peppers. Are these really shishito?

Yes it is. With shishito peppers, it's a hit and miss. From my experience, 1 out of 10 will be spicy. If you experience 7 out of 10, you just got bad luck..... :((((

What protein provides the base liquid for the beef udon, pork or beef? what is the base liquid for…

The spicy beef udon is made with pork bone broth, and the ramen are made with chicken broth.

Is the don don noodle still available?

Yes it is and it's delicious!

From the outside it definitely does not look like much, and the area is kind of sketch but it is def worth a visit!

One thing to note is that the karaage comes on top of a small salad with dressing? It should come in a separate plate bc after I had the karaage I was left with warm salad. Great place otherwise though ! Would come back

Everything is a bit expensive for what it is, but overall taste wise, everything was amazing regardless! We got the assorted tempura, filet katsu don, and cold soba flight sampler. The assorted tempura was good, they had a lot of variety and I enjoyed the mushroom, asparagus, and potato! The shrimp tempura portion is very generous in size and was good. A little overpriced for what it is, but if you love this assortment of fried tempura, it is overall good to try! The filet katsu don was amazing, and I like that it came with a small bowl of miso soup! It's always nice to have that as a complimentary side dish. The katsu was crispy and complimented well by the sauce! I'd highly recommend this dish! And now for the star of the show... the soba flight! This was so fun to go through and I highly recommend it just for the experience! My personal favorite was the one that included enoki mushroom on the topping. Definitely would recommend trying Tanakaya if you haven't already! I'd definitely come back.
