So I came here for the first time a couple days ago and unfortunately, everything was quite forgettable. We ordered a variety of skewers, sushi, and hand rolls and nothing really stood out enough to make me want to come back to try again. The quality of the fish was decent but not great, and the beef yaki-tori's we got were all overcooked, tough and dry. The chicken yaki tori skewers were mediocre as well. The 2 hand rolls we ordered (spicy tuna and yellowtail) had a lot of fish in it which we appreciated but as I mentioned, the taste just wasn't there. On a positive note, it was quite slow when we came around 730pm on a weekday. So the service was great as the servers were very attentive to all of our needs and requests. The restaurant is clean, organized, and spacious. The ambiance is also cool and relaxed, so I could see how people would love to come to drink and chill. I would come back for drinks and maybe a few small bites but if you're coming here exclusively looking for some good Japanese izakaya cuisine, you could be disappointed. read more

I don't know why this place has so many good reviews. The service sucks and the food was mid. We saw our waitress maybe 2 times and always had to flag someone for things like water refills, wasabi, napkins, putting in orders, etc. There was also this algae looking substance in one of our water cups. The food itself was okay, but nothing mind-blowing. I don't think there was one bite that night that I thought, "wow". Some of the yakitori tasted like straight up propane. Cooked well medium rare with a good base. Beef Ribeye: Seemed overcooked and nothing special. Bacon Asparagus: Bacon lightly cooked, but overall it was just one string of Asparagus. Came here on a Thursday around 5pm (they have Happy Hour from 5-6pm on select days). Parking was easy but you can't see the entrance of the place from the parking lot, so that was slightly confusing. The entrance is basically on the street/sidewalk. We ordered the following from the Happy Hour menu: the seaweed salad ($3), house salad ($4), potato croquettes ($7), and a large cold sake ($6). We also ordered a chicken katsu curry ($16-$17) from the regular menu. Seaweed salad is what you'd expect (portion is pretty small though). House salad (with house dressing) was larger than I expected and was very tasty! Next time, I'd ask them to go light on the dressing and to provide more dressing on the side (if needed). The potato croquettes (comes with 4) were the best dish that we tried. I really enjoyed them. The chicken katsu curry was not very good. The chicken was very hard/dry, and the curry tasted different and was much more liquid-y than other places. I would not order the chicken katsu curry again. The large sake was enough for at least 6 shots, so that was a pleasant surprise since it was only $6. Our bill with tax and tip included was $42. Not bad (minus the chicken katsu curry). A nice Japanese restaurant with many options for everyone. It was pretty expensive for some of the items. It wasn't anything to rave about but it wasn't bad either. I'd recommend skipping the skewers as you get a small stick of food for $3-4. We thought that we would be able to share but unfortunately it's just a toothpick with 2-3 pieces on it. The king oyster mushroom was $4.25 and you'd think they'd just give us the whole mushroom instead of just half. You're better off with one of their plates than skewers. I'd recommend going during happy hour to get the best bang for your buck. We went around 5/5:30pm and the restaurant was empty except for one other table. The music was crazy loud so we asked for them to turn it down since we had our 1 year old. Downside was that it would be turned down for a minute then someone else turned it back up. We asked 2 more times and it kept happening. Eventually we just asked to be moved to a different section where the music wasn't very loud. Service was good and the food came out fast. Really enjoyed our experience at MORI Izakaya in Anaheim! The restaurant has a good amount of indoor seating, and they also have a private room that's perfect for parties or group gatherings, which is a great option if you're celebrating a special occasion. The yakitori and grilled skewers were definitely the highlight. Everything was flavorful and cooked really well. The scallop and chicken liver skewers were some of my favorites! For appetizers, the ankimo (monkfish liver) was also absolutely delicious and definitely one of my must-order dishes. Overall, a great izakaya for both casual dinners and group gatherings. Ordered some agadashi tofu, sushi and yakitori. The tofu was fine, but the sushi and yakitori were literally pretty tough to swallow. The toro nigiri was pretty fishy and the tuna nigiri was very cut improperly or something - it had ligaments / tendons in the pieces and I honestly couldn't chew it properly to eat. Stopped by Mori Izakaya for dinner and enjoyed the cozy atmosphere and friendly service. We ordered a variety of dishes including sushi, grilled skewers, takoyaki, fried squid legs, and okonomiyaki. The sushi was fresh but fairly average compared to other sushi spots in OC. The takoyaki and fried squid legs were easily the standout dishes of the night. Both were packed with flavor and paired perfectly with a cold beer. Most of the grilled meats were cooked well and had a nice char. The okonomiyaki looked amazing when it arrived at the table, but unfortunately it was undercooked in the center and not what I expected. Good izakaya with yakitori and many other dishes. We came here for my sisters graduation around 5:30 PM. Interior is like a Japanese yatai with lots of table seating. Overall everything was delicious. My favorite and most unique item was the lamb chop. It was so cute and tiny, which made it perfect for photos. The only critique I have is that one of the beef orders was a little tough to chew, I think it was the beef short rib. Other than that, everything was great and I would definitely come here again. Note: One thing about this spot that I'm not a fan of is the hosting situation. If there's a wait and you put your name down, the host won't give you a time frame of when a table will be ready. It's insanely inconvenient because how are you supposed to know if you're even willing to wait that long? It's also misleading because there are always so many open tables, but they don't seat people in those spots. It was a quiet cozy night and not as busy, I came 2 1/2 hours til closing time but the food and service was still great. I was finally wanting to try the udon Mentaiko cream, but they said since they weren't as busy, they were going to close the kitchen early so they only had the happy hour menu available which was a bummer. Came here for the second time last Friday night after work and it was just alright. The first time was good enough to consider coming back, but unfortunately I don't see myself coming back again. I ordered 4 pieces of yakitori to go along with a beer; just a little pit stop before going home to grab a bite and unwind for a bit. Unfortunately the yakitori took a long time to come out. I kinda wanted to nibble on something while drinking some beer, but it took so long I just decided to finish the beer instead. When it did come out, it was also a bit disappointing as well. The last time I came here the yakitori was much better. This time around it was dry and offensively under seasoned. Listen, I eat a lot of chicken breast for da gainz, so I fully expected the chicken tenderloin to be dry, but more wasabi absolutely would've helped. Even my favorite meatball with cheese was a letdown. Anyway, service was fine. The hostess was friendly and had a positive vibe about her. Came here for dinner. The place is popular on weekends on expect a long wait. Parking lot is spacious. Place is clean and decorations are lovely. Our server wasn't very friendly and acted a little inconvenienced when we would ask for things. The pacing with how items came out was a little off. We ordered rice to go with our skewers and it came right away, but the skewers took a long time to come out so the rice was cold by the time everything else started getting to our table. The table next to us was complaining about the service too. They took a while with the check when we asked for it, and the server just plopped it on the table and walked away wordlessly which was kinda rude. It took another 20 mins for someone to pick up our credit cards, and more time to give it back so we were just sitting awkwardly. Drinks- My mango highball was sweet and refreshing. It has a good amount of alcohol. Food- The chicken heart was dry, possibly overcooked. The garlic butter scallops were tender and juicy with a good garlic flavor. The beef rib eye overcooked and tough. Pork belly was juicy. Chicken skin was crispy and my favorite. Asparagus and shitake mushrooms were fresh. Meatballs with cheese tasted like cheeseburger, very juicy and flavorful. They were out of a lot of things on the menu. Experience was not good overall. Parking was weird with the front doors on the side by the busy road which threw us off at first. We were quickly seated but at a table directly under a speaker. My boyfriend and I went to MORI Izakaya for dinner after leaving Disneyland, and it was our first time visiting. I came here with my parents on a Tuesday during Happy Hour. We were pleasantly surprised by the gentle atmosphere. At least on a weekday evening, the music and waiters were very calm and relaxing. My mom's favorite dishes were the Potato Salad and the Mentaiko Hand Roll. My dad's favorite dishes were the Mirinboshi and the Sansai Udon. A new favorite Japanese restaurant in Anaheim. Parking is plentiful. When entering the restaurant the setting is clean and inviting. It has a modern feel with nostalgic Japan. The menu has plenty of selection from Sushi, Yakitori, cooked food, beverage and spirits. It was incredible that each dish we order, it was good. We came here for dinner with my sister's family and overall had a great experience. The food was good, and the other staff members we interacted with were extremely friendly and welcoming. The place and food were also family friendly. Unfortunately, our experience at the end of the night was really disappointing because of the way the hostess handled a billing issue. My husband was treating my sister's family to dinner and went up to pay the bill. When he came back, he told me the bill was only $127. Based on everything we had ordered, I immediately knew something was wrong because our bill should have been way higher. Instead of taking advantage of the mistake, we went back together to the hostess because we wanted to make sure the restaurant received the correct payment. The actually bill was supposed to be around $450. The hostess corrected the bill, but the way she spoke to us was completely unnecessary. She was rolling her eyes, glaring at us, and giving us a very rude and accusatory attitude. She even said, "That's why I told him to look at the bill and confirm," as if we had done something wrong by bringing the incorrect bill to her attention. There were maybe at most 7 tables dining, she couldn't even remember where she, herself had sat us, expected us to verify the table for her, and printed the incorrect receipt. But realistically, my husband does not work at the restaurant. How is he supposed to remember every single item our entire table ordered? The menu isn't extremely extensive, and with multiple tables ordering similar dishes, there is obviously going to be some overlap in what different tables have ordered. We could have easily paid the $127 and walked out, but we chose to be honest and make sure the restaurant received the approximately $450 that we actually owed. We weren't trying to dispute the bill or get anything for free. We were literally trying to make sure they got paid correctly. Eventually, another employee came over and offered to call the manager if we wanted to speak with him. We did, and the manager was very understanding. He agreed with our concerns, apologized, and thanked us for being honest/ not just walking away without paying the remaining ~$300 amount. The issue wasn't the billing mistake, mistakes happen. What was disappointing was the attitude we received when we were actively trying to correct the mistake in the restaurant's favor. A simple "Oh, I'm sorry, let me get the correct bill for you" would have been completely appropriate. We really enjoyed the rest of our experience and thought the other staff members were great. We also appreciated the manager taking the time to listen and address our concerns. Hopefully this feedback is taken constructively, because the situation could have been handled much more professionally. read more

If you are here for yakitori, it is excellent. I enjoyed the skewers as it hit the spot. If you are here for the sushi, it is OK, pretty standard for what it is, but if you're looking for premium grade sushi, I would skip. The prices are fair for yakitori but on the higher end for sushi. I love the interior decor of this restaurant, it is well set up, with plenty of parking and lower chances of having to wait. The service is pretty good, I have no complaints. Not sure how this place has such good reviews. All the skewers were extremely overcooked, chewy & bland. I had to spit out the squid & chicken thigh as it was not edible. Garlic butter scallop was so sad. Looked like it was a baby scallop cut in half, overly cooked as well. What was disappointing was the uni. I work at a sushi restaurant so I asked about where their uni was from. Was told it's Santa Barbara uni so I went ahead and ordered one nigiri order. Once it came out I could tell the color was dull and not as vibrant & it tasted like a wet rag. Def lower quality uni, more like uni that is served at ayce places.
