This used to be Chomp, which I'd frequent 15-20 years ago because it was my favorite Fullerton restaurant. I could tell by viewing the menu this would be a memorable experience. Elisa was friendly and delivered good service. The service was kind of slow, but the dishes were very delicious. The fish was fresh and I saw the chef filleting a whole fish, which I don't think I've seen in Southern California before. Maybe because I don't typically sit at or near the bar. The Yellowtail Jalapeño was perfectly spicy and had the umami I appreciate. The micro greens and tomato were nice additions to the plate. The Coconut Shrimp Roll had coconut shrimp, coconut mayo, and shaved coconut. This was a surprisingly delightful combination. The Lemon Salmon Roll was very good, but could've benefited from a sauce. The Caliente and Golden Tiger Rolls were also tasty. I would return for more rolls, cold signature plates, and their Uni Pasta. They offer BOGO deals on certain rolls and have an attractive selection of liquors & cocktails. This is a classy location for celebrating. read more

The family came here for dinner on our bonus day in the LA area. Inside is well decorated with Japanese Village vibes. Menu has a lot of upscale items but there are some deals to be had that helps your pocket book. Place was packed on this particular day but we managed to snag one of the last tables. We tried the Chirashi bowl. Salmon Avocado roll, Honeymoon roll, Super Dragon roll, and Tempura Udon. Food was good and the atmosphere felt like we were in a village which the family thought added to the ambience. Came in for lunch with my family and received horrible service. At one point, we had to get up from our seat to grab our own utensils and wave down servers. Mind you, the restaurant was at maybe 30% capacity so it wasn't even busy. We had a few kids with us too who were hungry so that didn't make the experience better. I will say, the food came out quickly but that was it's only saving grace. After finishing our meal, we were left at our table for 15 minutes with no one checking up on us. Dirty plates were stacked high. When I went to find our server, he was drinking alcohol with his customers. Of course. That's why we got horrible service. Checked out Enraku after seeing all the great reviews. Overall great service, food came out super fast, and ambiance was great. Tons of seats so did not have to wait. They currently have tons of special (some only for the weekday) and buy one roll and get the second 50% off. Their menu is massive! Tons of things to get if you aren't into sushi or want something cooked. Parking is definitely a challenge though. Now my 2nd time trying this new sushi joint for dinner. Got similar things both times. The first time we had it, we got the Gurume premium and we were won over. It was so good for the price! We were there around 8pm so I especially appreciated how fresh the fish and good the sushi rice was. This most recent time, we were there around 8:30pm and the sushi rice was definitely disappointing. It was stale and the texture was super off which took away from the sushi. We also tried the seasonal truffle eel and were super disappointed by how small and measly the portion size was for the price. The smallest pieces of eel.. If the rating menu says "slightly sweet", it's going to be very sweet. I would order sake on the dryer side and it may help your taste buds dramatically. The "sweet" sake we ordered was Kubota Junmai Daiginjo. The "dry" Kiushu Junmai Daiginjo was much better for us. The diamonds on rough item was the Bluefin Toastada. Bluefin was incredible with cotija cheese on a crisp tortilla. We ordered the bluefin nigori & sashimi and quality wasn't as good as bluefin on Tostada. I'm currently enjoying a low carb diet and ordered Ex-Girlfriend Roll. There's no rice, but crabmeat with soy paper. This roll was incredible. Very Very filling and a definite order. The other rolls were good, but standard and generic. Nothing else was Great or memorable. 2 orders of Gyoza were also good. Total Bill was reasonable for a couple with drinks on a sushi date. Don't expect service to be the same waiter/waitress. They appear to all work together. Holding out and waiting for one person will have you waiting for a long time. Came here in a busy Saturday night, but we were seated within like 20 minutes. They have a huge menu where there's something for everyone so I can see why there's so many large groups and families flocking here. We ordered 2 rolls, an appetizer (fried corn), 2 glasses of wine, 1 sashimi special, and chicken Katsu udon (pictured below)...and with tip it came about $50 for two people. The sushi roll deal for buy one get 50% off the other is something to take advantage of. I can't remember the rolls my friend got, but she enjoyed both. They don't tell you this, but your food will come out in the order it's made. So my friend was done with both her rolls by the time my katsu was served so heads up! It wasn't a big deal for us, but might be a little awkward if you're on a first date or something hahaha. Overall the food is solid and if you can take advantage of the deals/happy hour, it'll stretch the dollar amount of how worth it the place is to you. The atmosphere is fun and the restaurant is huge so it's teeming with patrons. Service is great as everyone is super helpful. Overall enjoyable and I can see myself coming back if I was in the area. Started out as 5 star then slowly things went south. We went on a Saturday evening around 6:45pm. Parking lot was crowded so we parked across the street in the free parking structure. We waited about 15 min to be seated. Large restaurant with good ambience. We ordered right away as we were hungry. We got the baked salmon roll, the ex-girlfriend roll and the udon with the chicken katsu. 5/5 the salmon roll was delicious. Came about 15 min after we ordered. About 10 min later our second roll came out which was also good. 3/5 the server only checked in on us once. After waiting about 36 min I waved him down to ask about my udon. He said he would check in on it and that the kitchen was backed up. I wish he had told us that earlier. 45 min after ordering, he brought out the udon and katsu. I was ready to cancel the order. 2/5 the Chicken katsu was cold even though the server said that it had just come out. The Udon broth was watered down and had no flavor. 4/5 service recovery. The server did apologize and gave me a price adjustment on the Udon. Otherwise this review would have been a 3 star. Will probably never dine in on a Saturday evening again, will only order rolls for take out and never order their udon. read more

TL;DR Delicious eel. Good motsunabe. Beautiful plating, good decor, good service. Food I got the unagi, scallop uni, and motsunabe. The unagi was my favorite. It was so soft and had a charred flavor from the grill. The truffle flavor complimented the eel so well. It was on top of a crisped rice, that mimicked a unagi rice bowl. The scallop was lightly torched and the uni was fresh. The broth of the motsunabe was deep, but a little salty. I wish there was rice or noodles at the end. The presentation was interesting. The small intestine was soft, and the large intestine was creamy. I tried their uni pasta, but I couldn't taste the uni in the sauce. I also wished the noodles were round pasta noodles, but they tasted like kalguksu noodles (korean noodles). Service and Ambiance The service was good. The service was also great since the servers would continuously check up on us despite us being seated on a corner seat. Food: Seafood udon 9/10: this was surprisingly so delicious. Uni scallop 9/10: I'm always a fan of scallop and this dish did not disappoint. However the scallop was a bit over torched for my taste but the dish was still amazing. Snow White roll 5/10: this dish was really basic and it lacked flavor. It was just rice and fish. I would've expected some type of yuzu or citrus sauce to go with it. On the bright side the fish inside the roll was fresh. Truffle hunter 10/10! Wow this was one of the best roll I've tried! It wasn't too fresh either. The two rolls came out after and then the appetizer. The pork katsu curry came out last and I had to call a server to ask about my dish. They had told me kitchen orders usually take longer but I wish I was informed of this in advance so I could have ordered something else instead of waiting. The taste was mediocre at best. I'm a little backed up on writing reviews, but I had to post this one because we had such a great night here. I'll start by saying the rolls were amazing. Plus, they currently have a promo where you order one roll and get the second at 50% off. Not AYCE but I was sooooooo satisfied. We ordered the premium sashimi and shared it among a party of 4. I was especially happy with the tuna and uni because both were incredibly fresh, and I have pretty high standards when it comes to those two. They definitely did not disappoint. One of the highlights of the night was the scallop uni. Everyone at the table was in awe. I usually find scallops a bit bland, but this dish had the perfect balance with a light citrusy flavor and fresh uni on top. Everything else we ordered was a hit as well. We ended the night with soup, and even one friend who normally doesn't like tripe ended up loving it. Service was quick and efficient despite the restaurant being busy. The space is very roomy with plenty of booths, making it a great spot to dine without too much background noise. Parking was also easy and convenient. Despite arriving just after they opened on a Friday, I noticed a mix of solo diners, small groups, and even a big table of people in suits, which tells me this spot is definitely popular with locals and nearby businesses. *Lunch Chirashi Special: This lunch special was delicious! It comes with a warm cup of miso soup, and the fish was fresh and high quality. The bowl included shrimp, tuna, salmon, octopus, and a few white fish varieties, plus tamago, kelp, and what I think were pickled shallots. For me, this dish was so filling and a great size for a lunch chirashi bowl. I left very full and satisfied. A few details I appreciated: the seafood was cold while the sushi rice was still warm, as it should be. They also sprinkled furikake over the rice, which added great flavor. And my personal favorite: it came in a cute oval bento-style bowl. While eating, I saw lots of rolls coming out, and the plating was consistently beautiful. I also think I overheard the large group talking about a happy hour and great deals for the drinks. The waiter was Japanese so I think they are actually Japanese owned/ran, which is always a plus. Their menu was big too, and the photos are great. They had a special in one of the inserts that was buy 1 roll, get another roll for 50% off. Nice! We ordered a couple of rolls and they were good. Really tasty and not too much rice. Since we've both had uni pasta before, we decided to order the mentaiko (pollock roe) pasta and it was perfectly creamy, rich and flavorful. It might not look big in the photo but it's a big portion! I came here for two things and two things only, their uni and uni pasta that was one of their popular dishes: The uni sushi was delicious, it tasted super fresh and it was beautiful (they only charge 2 dollars for fresh wasabi or kizami, which other places literally charge 4, which is amazing!!) I'd come back just to get that, on the side note I did end up ordering green beans with soy sauce marinade or something too, also very yum. BUT, let's get to the uni pasta part. I am not a hater, I have to admit it was very very creamy but the uni was not as fresh as the sushi one, it was brittle and kind of sad. The carbonara (or whatever the sauce was) overpowered the uni like crazy you can't taste the uni even if you individually took the mashed up piece and ate it. I've had great uni pasta before that was balanced enough where you can taste that umami flavor of the uni that should not be hidden behind the carbonara (or again, whatever the sauce was) flavor. Well, anyway, I'm sure their rolls and other dishes are amazing but that one wasn't up to par with my tastebuds. I might be a little bias because I've had others. When I asked about their food, the waitress said, "sorry, the kitchen is backed up." Then it finally came out a few minutes after I asked. Watching paint dry was fasting than getting our food at Enraku. They really need to improve that. It's horrible to have half of the party eating, while the other just sit there hungry. Some kind of modern-day torture if you ask me. They recently opened. So, I'm trying not to burn them too hard, and give some grace. The dining chairs are very uncomfortable. Still, hard, not comfortable. Opt for a booth if you can. We gave the booth to the older ones in our party. Just to be courteous. The food was alright. Subpar and very mediocre. Love the newly renovated space and the fact that this place now serves high grade sushi is even more the reason Fullerton is THE spot for fantastic foods and vibes. This place is super spacious and the decor not only cater to a very intimate date night vibe, but also has plenty of room for large parties or families. Big groups can be chaotic, but our server Daniel handled us like a pro -- super attentive without being overbearing. He must have noticed I was obsessed with ginger because brought a mountain of it as a refill (elite service tbh). Parking is always tough in Downtown Fullerton, but it helps that they have their own private lot. Basically you can take advantage of free parking if you get there early enough. So far, I've tried their cut rolls, handrolls, sashimi, spicy seafood udon, and mentaiko udon. All were 10/10 bangers, but I usually don't order the same dishes again just so I can try new ones the next time I visit. Except for their otoro handroll -- that one is a repeat order for sure.
