Since it's so close to Knotts Berry Farm, it was a perfect time for a girlfriend and myself to go visit this all-you-can-eat restaurant. It was definitely very very popular as there were at least 75% of the tables already full. The server was very nice and very prompt seating us and getting us our drinks. Everything is ordered on a iPad, but you can order only six items at a time. But once you send one order and you can go ahead and immediately order another six items. There is a strict 90 minute eating time, but they did let us sit a little bit longer since we were no longer eating. Some of the items were extra three dollars or so and some of the items you can only order one time which I thought was a little bit disappointing. Overall, a good experience they don't use too much rice and the fish seemed pretty fresh for a Sunday lunch! I really was disappointed that desserts were not included. The restaurant has definitely seen better days. I could use a little updating in some parts. The front door was hard to find since they used it as a outdoor patio dining area. Came for AYCE Sushi with the Sashimi upgrade. Food and service good. But the restaurant felt very cold, and moved to another table that was not directly under the vent. Ordering is via an iPad at the table and the kitchen have it out after a nominal wait time. The only thing the iPad does not show is what orders placed have come out already. Also near the restrooms is a photo wall of past victors and unsuccessful challengers for their 100 pieces sushi in under 30 minutes challenge. The famous Raina was victorious here. Fish quality is good. The sashimi tasted and looked fresh. My brother did most of the ordering for the table and I didn't have any complaints. The standout for me is the quality of the tempura items that were served. Who ever made them in the kitchen is a pro, since the batter is not excessively thick and the tail of the shrimp tempura has that distinctive sign of a seasoned craftsman. I also ordered the Donkotsu Ramen towards the end of the meal, it was decent for a restaurant that does not specialize in ramen (but omitting bean sprouts or cutting back on the portion would have made it better). Salmon Oyako, Hamachi Jalapeno and Soft Shell Crab Tempura were the highlight of the meal. Truffle Unagi Sashimi tasted good, but the prevention was different from the photo on the menu (no separation at all between the pieces). Not sure how my brother found this restaurant, but I have a feeling it was Raina's eating challenge on Instagram that pop Aburi Sushi up on his radar. 5/5 read more

I presented here last night for dinner and enjoyed my meal for the most part. However, the ordering system has changed from a simple sheet of paper and pencil to a tablet you use yourself. I was a little disappointed with the electronic vs. paper approach, and my orders kept coming out differently in appearance than what the menu featured. In my opinion, part of the dining experience is being catered to, which includes having a server come to take your order--not taking the order yourself. Additionally, I paid slightly over $110 for two all-you-can-eat meals. This price was driven up by an extra $11 charge per person, which included the restaurant's premium and sashimi options. However, even after paying the additional $11 per person, not every item on the menu was included. There were still a few items that required an additional charge. I would have thought that if I'm paying over $50 per person, I would have access to the entire menu. A few final thoughts that left me a little disappointed this time around compared to prior visits: 1. You're only allowed 90 minutes for your visit. This includes the time it takes to bring out each round of food. 2. After you place your order, you're temporarily locked out from ordering additional items. So, be sure you get everything you want with each round of food. 3. Be prepared to pay additional fees for premium and sashimi options, and keep in mind that the upgrade still doesn't include desserts or certain other menu items. 4. If you leave the screen stagnant for too long without adding additional items or placing your order, the tablet will erase your entire selection, and you'll have to start all over again. I would have left a 5 star review prior to this visit, and I really think the food here is phenomenal. It's just the change in the ordering system, the timed dining experience, and the archaic tablet left me with a poorer taste in my mouth. Food: We chose the Sashimi Premium AYCE option, which was about $46 pp on the weekend. I found the price quite affordable considering how much sashimi we ate. Some of our favorites were the fatty cuts (salmon, tuna, and yellowtail belly), the halibut, jumbo scallops, uni, soft-shell crab tempura, and the unique truffle unagi sashimi combo. As always, the experience here was good. If you come during dinner time, you may experience a bit of a wait since the waitlist can get pretty long. I did notice that they now have an option to join the waitlist ahead of time instead of having to waitlist in person, which might be more convenient and even cut down the wait time. We always get the Sashimi Premium AYCE, and they still have the iPad/tablet ordering system. There were a few times when some of our orders were missed, but if that happens, you can always call a server over to help, especially if it's a premium item. The sashimi was delicious--nice and thick-cut, fresh-tasting, and had a good chew to it. Our favorite cuts were definitely the belly cuts, as it is a little fattier. I also noticed that they seem to rotate through some of their appetizers and rolls, as the appetizer section has changed compared to the last few times I've been here. It was nice to see some different options this time around. One of my favorite AYCE sushi spots! There is a great selection of dishes even doing the non-sashimi and I would heavily recommend maxing out your premium sushi dishes like the salmon belly and yellowtail belly. Their ratio of fish to rice was really good, however, there were some rounds where the rice seemed undercooked so it didn't bind together well. Some non-premium dishes that were good were the shishito peppers, seared salmon nigiri, and crispy rice spicy salmon. Service was somewhat busy on the weekends so I would definitely order your dishes 15-20 min beforehand to keep a good pace. read more

I came with my friend on a sunday around 4pm & was seated shortly after as it wasn't that busy inside. The restaurant has plenty of tables but some tables seemed too close. For example, a worker had to squeeze in between the middle tables almost fell over & I had to squeeze to get out when I went to restroom. They have cool wall art all over the restaurant and nice air conditioning inside which was nice on a hot day! I like how everything's on the ipad where you can order drinks to all foods except sauces you'll need to ask your server which ours was barely around at all. I got spicy mayo & eel sauce on the side as well as sriracha that was the guy accidentally poured into the bowl. I love their ginger & all of their nigiri but wish they give you more on the premium nigiri. You get 2 pieces max for those which sucks. We were checked on once & no one came to refill our waters until we were almost done which I found funny because I saw a few servers refilling other tables near us. In the last 40 minutes of our meal, I ordered 1 salmon lover roll to finish off but the restaurant filled up almost full so I had to wait almost the whole time for it after I asked a server who said it's on the next ticket but then I saw 3 other tables get their food who came long after us so I asked again to get it checked & it came 10 minutes later. They were quick to give us the bill to pay out though but expected better service overall with the amount of workers they had. Overall, quality was good rating 7.8/10 for the food. We were seated outside on the patio, and the service was incredibly bizarre and frustrating. The servers were super quiet, and we constantly kept getting the incorrect orders brought out to us, and lots of missing orders. When we brought this up, one server mentioned that the staff is supposed to be telling us the names of the dishes as they place them at our table--but not a single server actually did this. To make matters worse, one girl serving us sounded completely high and spoke so softly we couldn't hear a word she said, while another male server angrily grabbed the patio door and flung it open right next to us. Worst of all, the hygiene here is a major concern. We found hair on our sushi rolls. Between the completely checked-out, aggressive service and the hair in our food, this was a terrible experience. My family and I have been going to Aburi sushi for more than a year now every time we craved sushi. We love their small portion size which allowed us to try more varieties before getting full. We also really love their carpaccio and limited order premium sushi. However, we noticed their nigiris were more filled with rice now and the staff doesn't seem as welcoming as before. The waiting time for appetizer also took a lot longer than usual to come out. Furthermore, while we can not pinpoint exactly if Aburi was the reason, but my mom and my sister did end up getting really painful stomachache two hours after eating sushi here up until the next morning. Came here Sunday evening for dinner and there was no wait. You order everything off the tablet for AYCE so it's nice to order whatever you want whenever. The food was delicious. We were not disappointed with any of the rolls. The capo roll was better than expected. They even have no rice options but the imitation crab is still pretty filling. I wish the food came out a little faster especially because I feel like I get full waiting for food to come out and if I'm doing AYCE, I'm trying to eat as much as I can. I think it might be good to stagger your order because it seemed like if we ordered multiple rolls at once, they didn't come out until they were all prepared so that could have delayed it. But if we ordered 1 or 2 smaller dishes, they came out quicker. I didn't even take any pictures of the food because I wanted to eat it right away after all the waiting. The fish is fresh and flavorful...you can tell the different fish types apart. There wasn't too much rice either. We loved nearly everything. The hostess was very sweet communicating with us to let us know about the wait times. The servers checked in on us regularly and were also very nice as well. The cuts were uneven and some still cold with an icy texture, which ig makes sense since it was the end of the night. The thing that really bothered us though was how long it took for our food to come out. We did about 2 rounds of AYCE and we didn't even order a lot, but in total it took us 2 hours to be finished. Not because we eat slow (each roll only had 4 sushi in there), but it just took forever for them to bring it out. They didn't even bring us all that we ordered. Each round we had an order missing. Trying out a new all you can eat sushi bar because it had some good reviews and a lot of options, including no rice options and an upgraded ayce sashimi for $11 more. The service was 50/50. Some of the pop working were super helpful and friendly and others, it felt like when they brought you food they practically tossed it on the table or didn't ask if you needed anything else. I'm not sure if it's because everything is ordered from a machine table side. I did appreciate the waiter going over the menu and the limitations on certain items. The appetizers on the menu that I tried were a miss. I had the shumai dumplings and they were horrible. They did not taste like shumai and were mushy. The chicken thigh yakitori was nicely grilled and the sauce had great flavor, but it was greasy. The garlic shrimp was good but it was a total catfish because they looked nothing like the menu I really enjoyed the carpaccio options they had but without the upgraded ayce you're limited to two orders of two pieces only. The fish was fresh and I loved the sauces and garnish they added to the overall flavor. The salmon belly and yellowtail belly nigiri were amazing and I loved that they don't give you a huge chunk of rice with it. I was able to taste the fish. I had a variety of their no rice rolls but in my opinion, a lot of them are one dimensional. I didn't care much for the crab mixture they use in their rolls. It was too sweet and was lacking texture. Even the veggie roll was a let down. It was far from a veggie roll with crunchy fresh veggies, instead it had a glop of avacado, soggy cucumber, and a single soggy piece of asparagus. The ambiance is chill. They have music playing in the background and it's a vibe. There's table, booth, bar, and outdoor seating. They can definitely accommodate a large crowd but I would call ahead to ensure you don't have a crazy wait. This place got pretty crowded as the night went on. Overall, it was an ok experience and I don't think I'd consider eating here again because it took over 10min to get the check and over 20min to get the last roll requested. Unfortunately, our experience at Aburi Sushi was by far the worst AYCE sushi experience any of the six of us have ever had. We came in very hungry, but quickly lost our appetite. The salmon tasted extremely fishy and had a strong odor similar to spoiled food. The yellowtail was incredibly chewy--almost like chewing gum. Overall, the texture of nearly every piece of sushi was slimy, fishy, and very difficult to eat. As a group, we were genuinely afraid to keep eating because we were worried about getting sick or food poisoning. Despite barely being able to eat, we still had to pay full price and left the restaurant hungry, which made the experience feel like a complete waste of money. To make matters worse, we had placed orders for about 20 pieces of sushi that never came out. When we checked with the server, we were told there were no pending orders. We then placed additional orders--but shortly afterward, all the sushi came out at once. We were left with an overwhelming amount of food that tasted very bad. We tried switching to non-sushi items just to fill our stomachs. Unfortunately, the ramen broth tasted old, and the smell of the pork chashu was so strong it was inedible. The takoyaki was dry and also tasted old. Overall, this was a very disappointing experience. I would not return, as I would be scared of getting sick. The restaurant seriously needs better quality control and order management--or it may need to reconsider operating at all. read more

Ever since a coworker recommended this place, I've come here whenever the opportunity presents itself, finally doing a review though. This most recent time I came with my parents who are really trying to cut down on rice, so the AYCE sashimi really works out. Similar to other reviews, the quality of the food is great, every time the food came out we would demolish it. The problem was the in between waiting periods. When we ordered the premium stuff, it came out right away, but the sashimi and other normal rolls literally took more than 10 minutes. The place itself was crowded though we didn't actually need to wait for a table, all the tables were definitely filled up while we waited for our food. It also seemed like we were all waiting together. The service was really slow, though yes they did eventually get to everyone. My parents mentioned they have been up-charged before from lunch time to dinner time despite showing up early enough, but showing up on a Saturday afternoon was a full dinner weekend charge regardless. Located at the Buena Park Mall. Restaurant does not take reservations but the waiting list is informative once you sign into the iPad located to the right of the front counter. It lets you know how many parties are ahead of you and how long everyone's been waiting. Customer service was 10/10! Every person from host/hostess to servers were very friendly and helpful. We never needed to wait long for anything. Everyone was available to assist and I thought it was very efficient. AYCE sushi was amazing. You can independently order at your own pace on the table's iPad. The only thing you can't order are drinks but you can call a server on the iPad and they can take your order. The portions are listed by quantity on the menu so there's no confusion about what you're getting. The premium sashimi menu is worth it. The pieces are cut thick. Prices are decent. read more

It was very cold inside, so bring a light jacket if you get cold easily. Their fish tasted fresher than X Izakaya, but the ordering process is a little weird and you're limited for some choices. Some other menu items come at an additional charge so be careful when ordering. The food is just alright taste wise, so if you're not a big eater, AYCE probably isn't the best option for you and besides the sushi it is mostly fried foods. Our waiter was nice and attentive to us and made sure our tables were cleared in timely manner. I ordered a wide variety of fresh rolls such as the Angry tail roll to their no rice rolls like albacore rollin and salmon poke nachos which comes on a fried wonton i believe which is unique and good! And i usually dont like baked rolls or anything with mayo but i did order the tempura roll called black widow roll which i highly recommend. I had an amazing experience at Aburi Sushi! The food was absolutely delicious and very fairly priced--exactly what I was hoping for when I need to get my money's worth, and it did not disappoint. Parking was extremely easy, which was a huge plus. The staff was super chill and friendly, and they walked us through how to order from the iPad with no stress at all. As soon as we placed our order, the food came out literally right away. Everything we tried was fresh and tasty, and the menu has almost no limits--there's so much to choose from. The environment was enjoyable too. It's not upscale, but it has a relaxed, welcoming vibe that definitely caters to everyone. Overall, I'm really happy I found Aburi Sushi. I've been going to Aburi since 2019 and their menu has improved so much throughout the years! It's one of my favorite AYCE sushi spots because of how affordable it is while also being high quality. Their fish to rice ratio is perfect and I love that they have so many options for sushi, rolls, and even appetizers/hot food. The service has been consistently good even when it's crowded. Sometimes I'll wonder when a food item is coming and as I'm wondering, the server will bring it out. It's a pretty wide and spacious restaurant with many tables and offers outside seating on a cute patio. I love that they have a lot of premium items to order despite the lower price tag compared to a lot of AYCE sushi spots! Some of my favorite nigiri items are the salmon and yellowtail belly, halibut, sweet shrimp, and jumbo scallop. I also enjoy the soft shell crab and chicken and leek yakitori from the premium items. Overall, Aburi is a solid sushi spot that I would highly recommend to anyone who likes a lot of variety when they go to AYCE places. The restaurant is very nice decorated and the staff are friendly and fast with orders. If you do AYCE sushi, highly recommended you order all dishes right away and refill or order more within 10-15 minutes. We were there on Friday night and some plates took 20-30 minutes. Our favorites were fresh sashimi, bake mussels, brussel sprouts , soft shel crabs, and squid legs. They were all fresh and flavorful. It's nice that the restaurant is in the shopping center. We always shop around after we eat to burn these buffet calories :) read more
