tried the pork katsu, cheese katsu, and curry at 88Katsu, and everything was excellent. The pork was noticeably thicker than most other katsu places, yet still incredibly tender and juicy. The texture was especially impressive -- crispy on the outside, but soft and flavorful inside. Overall, it was one of the best katsu experiences I've had. This might be the best katsu spot in my neighborhood.

I was intrigued by 88 Katsu when I came across it on Yelp - located in Amerige Heights Town Center. Parking right in front is a bit limited, but there's plenty available in the larger shared plaza with stores like Barnes & Noble and Target nearby. We came in with a party of 8 around noon on a Sunday and were seated pretty quickly after adding our name to the waitlist on the tablet up front. Each table also has a tablet for ordering, which made the process super easy. I tried the 88 Tonkatsu ($16.88), Spicy Tonkatsu ($18.88), and Fishcake Udon ($13.88). Portions were generous across the board, but the pork was unfortunately a bit dry. The spicy tonkatsu dipping sauce stood out as it had great flavor with a nice kick. The udon was just okay; the noodles were thick and chewy, but it only came with a couple pieces of fish cake. Each katsu set came nicely presented with sauce, cabbage salad, miso soup, white rice, pickled jalapeño, and kimchi radish. There's a decent amount of indoor seating with an open layout. The place seems to turn tables over quickly, so even when it gets busy the wait doesn't seem too bad.

The katsu here was very good. Generous portion and has variety of it. My daughter got the curry katsu and I got the spicy katsu. I would love to try the jumbo katsu next time. The curry was just OK. My daughter and I prefer the curry from our local restaurant instead. The spicy sauce was some gojuchang mix and it was very spicy for me. I enjoyed the spicy sauce even though I kept drinking the water.

Delicious Katsu eatery in Fullerton - modern, elegant interior. Pleasant dining experience. SERVICE: 5/5 ~ I came on a Wednesday evening with a friend. We were greeted and sat right away. There's digital menus at every table and your order gets sent straight to the kitchen. I thought this was convenient. Our server would check in with us and also made sure we had water throughout our meal. Friendly and helpful staff. Accommodated us as we shared our whole meal. FOOD: 5/5 ~ Cheese Tonkatsu: 5/5 I loved the cheese pull, it's like a mozzarella chicken tender. It was so crispy and flavorful. I loved the way the food is plated and served. We also got a small bowl of curry and it was a great decision because I loved it as a dipping sauce on the side. I also liked the original katsu sauce it comes with. Zaru Noodle: 5/5 I don't have a picture of this but I was craving soba noodles and this hit the spot. It was a really hot day too so I'm glad this is what we decided to eat for early dinner. The sauce is on the sweeter side but I like that. The noodles were cooked great and I honestly enjoyed eating these noodles alongside the cheese tonkatsu. Great combo. Overall, I loved eating here and I would definitely come back.

Finally stopped by 88 Katsu for dinner. Outside, the plaza conveniently offers plenty of parking, and inside feels like a sterile and modern cafeteria with a good amount of close-quarters seating. Place your order via the tablet on your table and wait for your stuff to come out! The style of breading here is large and thick, almost reminiscent of crushed cornflakes, and it is more crunchy than crispy. SPICY KATSU: 4/5. The spice is not like typical Korean spice, it almost had a roasted red pepper flavor and it was reminiscent of a spicy pasta sauce. The spice definitely blooms over time. CHEESE KATSU: 4/5. Good, but decadent. While I did find the breading a little hard to bite through here, the cheese was so good, melty and mild.

First time here, I decided to check it out after hearing so many good things. I'm happy to report it's not just hype. Everything we ordered was absolutely delicious. Our family got the 88 Tonkatsu, 88 Jumbo Tonkatsu, Cheese Tonkatsu, and two Fish Cake Udon. Honestly, all of them were amazing, but if I had to rank the tonkatsu, I'd put the Cheese Tonkatsu first, the 88 Tonkatsu second, and the Jumbo third. The Jumbo was still tasty, but it was a bit too saucy for me. I love a good crunch, and the extra sauce took away from that crispiness. If you're all about that perfectly crispy bite, I'd recommend going with the 88 Tonkatsu. The udon was SO good, comforting and flavor is amazing. Service was simple and convenient since you order through a device and just request anything you need along the way. The ambiance was nice and spacious with plenty of seating. We'll definitely be back. Hot take: THIS PLACE IS BETTER THAN YOKO...

Wow, thick and large pork cutlet, can't beat the juicy pork bites. Bit different than the typical Korean katsu I enjoy. Sauce is more liquid making me use more of it, then feeling kinda salty from dipping more:) Cleaner salad dressing, pretty good. Radish a bit bland maybe. The star of the meal is the big thick pork, you will leave full. Like Arby's says, We Have The Meats! Had Suntory Premium, a beer I've been seeking since having a pitcher of it maybe 6 years ago. Definitely great beer, but a bit pricey for a skinny glass. Wish it was a big honking mug, or a pitcher, lol.

There's something about walking into 88 Katsu that immediately shifts your mood. It's not loud or flashy -- it's calm, warm, and quietly confident. The kind of place that doesn't need to overcompensate because the food speaks fluently for itself.   88 Tonkatsu (4.5/5). This wasn't just "good katsu." This was that perfectly timed crunch when your fork hits the crust -- a golden, shattering crisp that gives way to a ridiculously juicy pork tenderloin. The meat wasn't dry (which is my biggest katsu fear), but tender and flavorful on its own. And then comes the sauce situation. We got curry on the side. Whether you're drizzling it over or dipping into the curry, it elevates everything -- rich, savory, slightly sweet, and deeply satisfying. Every bite had that balance of texture and flavor that makes you slow down without realizing it.   Kitsune Noodle (4/5)  Felt like a warm reset button. The broth had that gentle, comforting depth. Not heavy, not overly salty, just soothing. The fish cakes were tender and subtly sweet, and the noodles tasted fresh with the perfect chew. It's the kind of bowl you crave when you want something that feels like it's quietly taking care of you.   Service was attentive without hovering. Water refills came before we even noticed they were low, and food arrived hot and well-paced. Nothing felt rushed.    Ambiance strikes that sweet spot between casual and cozy. Clean lines, warm lighting, and an atmosphere that makes you want to linger a little longer than you planned. It works just as well for a low-key dinner as it does for a comfort-food solo date. Highly recommend and would come back for sure.

This is a newer katsu spot that is hyped up for being better than Hako, an Irvine staple. I will say their cheese katsu definitely beats Hako's, but the original is comparable. Still very delicious and has that classic juicy pork, with a crispy panko crust. Make sure to come early since there seems to always be a wait for a table. The restaurant itself is clean and simple.

One of the best katsu I've ever had. The crunch, the size, the flavoring - all on point. Took my mom here for lunch and it was her first time trying katsu and now its all she talks about. We also tried a cold udon dipping dish that looked so simple yet tasted out of this world. Unfortunately I'm horrible with names so I dont remember the name of the girl who helped us out but she was so sweet. You sit down and order off the tablet and you can see them working in the kitchen The decor in this store is very simple and modern, I can't wait to be back

Came here to try 88 Katsu and I'm already planning my next visit. The inside is super clean with plenty of seating, and I loved that you can order directly from a tablet at your table -- so easy and convenient. I got the Jumbo 88 Katsu and wow... it was HUGE. Crispy on the outside, juicy on the inside, and definitely left me stuffed. I also tried the cheese katsu and it was so good -- melty, savory, and perfectly fried. Everything comes out on a tray with a full spread of sides like kimchi, curry, soup, and different sauces, which made the meal feel extra satisfying. The rice + curry combo was honestly a highlight for me. I also ordered the zaru udon, which is a cold udon dish. It was light, refreshing, and really tasty -- a nice contrast to the heavier katsu. That said, the jumbo katsu completely stole the show. Overall, in my opinion, this is the best katsu in OC. Great portions, great quality, and a comfortable dining experience. I'll definitely be back.

We like it here! We saw this place opening up while we were shopping at Target in the same plaza and came here on a weekend afternoon around 4pm to have an early dinner. We came with our baby and toddler and the place wasn't too busy so we had enough room for our stroller. You order through the tablet on the table and they bring the food out when ready. I enjoyed the katsu, portions are pretty generous and our toddler loved the udon! We did have to flag down a server for anything additional (to go boxes, more napkins, the check) but all in all, a pleasant experience. Parking is plentiful and we would come back!

We ordered the jumbo katsu to share between two people and it was more than enough. It came with three separate pieces and we ended up taking a piece home. The menu is very straight forward with a few katsu options and udon/soba noodles. You can order at your table using the tablet. The food came out pretty quick, the workers are very nice. There's indoor seating and the restaurant has a nice ambiance, it was little warm in there on a hot day. ig: @cravingswithcat

We ordered: Jalapeno Poppers -- wasnt spicy at all but it was really packed with spicy tuna, cream cheese, etc. Baked Jen Jen -- this was part of their low carb roll. It was spicy crab and avocado wrapped in baked salmon. It was pretty good. It was just too much crab for my liking. Dynamite Roll -- it had a decent amount on it All that we ordered were flavorful. Something to remember though is to make sure to ask for Wasabi and/or Ginger. They do not automatically serve them when you order rolls because some people just waste them. Makes sense! It is free so ask if you want any. The service was great. I will be back if I am in the area. The price was also comparable to other sushi joint.

We ended up ordering the premium gyu katsu set along with the curry pork cutlet set that comes with rice and sides along with some beer. The drinks and food came out fairly quick and were steaming hot. I like that the curry came on the side so the pork cutlet wouldn't get soggy and you could pour over as much as you want over the cutlets. The veggie sides were a nice touch and complemented the meal well. The gyu katsu didn't taste like Japan to us, but it was still good especially with the wasabi and sweet soy sauce that came with it. If I came back here, I would give the beef tongue a try along with the creamy udon because those also seemed like a favorite for customers. Service here was friendly and we were checked up on multiple times without having to flag someone down.
