Found this place spontaneously and came here for dinner on a weekday around 7:30pm. It wasn't busy at first but it got busier as time goes by. They are open until 1am so it's a great spot to have a drink and enjoy Korean food until late. The staff is a couple and they are very kind with their quick and generous service. They really hustle for everything you need and move fast. Great suggestions, they don't try to oversell anything and suggested portion was spot on. The meat quality to the broth to kimchi was all spot on. Our entire group was pleasantly surprised. Provided extra broth for our table and those services really go a long way. The assorted ($50) came with broth and it's good for 3 people. Katsu was $20.99 and the individual soup was around $18.99 I believe. Beef soup with brisket was delicious! Highly recommend for a cold day or anytime. Soup with a lot of meat, noodles and a bowl of rice. Season your soup with salt and the green onions provided, so good. The soup was piping hot and flavored perfectly after adding the salt and green onion. They have 3 kinds of banchan, which includes fish cake, kimchi and radish and each banchan was perfectly seasoned! We couldn't stop eating the banchan and asked for multiple refills hehe and they were was so kind and happy to bring a refill each time! We went on a Saturday night and service was great but there was only 1 person working the front at the time. Stopped by for a bite before hitting the bars and wow, this place is legit. We got the bossam (steamed pork) and the potato pancakes. Both were giant portions and delicious. The banchan was super fresh and delicious. Was enough food to feed 4-5 people. Wish we lived closer, would be here all the time to try other menu items. read more

First time here! My and my friend got wayyy too much food but we wanted to try everything it was so worth it though.... Food was 10/10 honestly the best korean food we both had in a while. Date night w/ the BF. We were in the mood for Korean food. Went on good Old yelp and came across this place. Its a quiet little mum and pop shop. Has amazing food and service. I got the the beef soup w/ brisket, the bf got kimchee stew, and we got the seafood pancake. Everything was delicious. Will definitely come back to try their bossam and mackerel. Walked in at 8:30pm on a Saturday night with only a few bar seats left. Was greeted and told "sorry, full". Never offered to put our names down for any type of waitlist, but they close at 1am?? A gem. This was my 2nd time visiting Mapo Korean, and it was absolutely amazing! The Kimchi stew with poke ribs was gigantic and delicious with so much kimchi and pork ribs. The 6 of us barely finished half of it. Bossam was awesome as well. Service was great and so was the price. This will be our go to Korean restaurant when we crave Bossam and Kimchi Stew with Port ribs and no to mention Soju! read more

The owners are some of the nicest people I've encountered. They are genuinely good to customers and I appreciate that very much. On top of that, the food is amazing yet not expensive. I got the beef brisket soup to-go and it was flavorful, and just delicious. My kids absolutely love it--the brisket was super tender. The banchan that come with the meal are all so good. The kimchi was especially amazing. We'll definitely be going back often, and I'm excited to try more dishes next time. read more

Went out with family on a week night. Thought that they served seafood but it's mostly a Korean soup place. No worries - we ordered some bossam, Osam bulgogi, and kimchi jjigge. Restaurant wasn't crowded so had the chance to chat with the manager. First of all, ridiculous portions! The quality was excellent and everything we tried was delicious. They didn't have a lot of side dishes but they were all good. It's what you would expect from a Korean soup place. We happened to come by during the Korea vs. Mexico game, and understandably, the place gets packed, with a line forming outside. We somehow beat the rush by about 30 minutes and were seated at a table as soon as we entered. We also realized then that they didn't have the all-you-can-eat option, so we ended up ordering the chicken wings, their version of loaded fries, and steamed rice. We also placed the order via the QR code. We had our drinks delivered to our table shortly afterward. The food, however, was taking a long time to get to our table. It may have been a combination of the FIFA World Cup and a staff shortage, but when we were there, there was only 1 kitchen staff member and 1 wait staff member. The lady on the wait staff did everything from serving food to accepting new customers and topping off water for all the tables. A wall separates the restaurant; there is a front room and an inside room, and both rooms had televisions broadcasting the game. The food itself was decent for the price that they charge. The chicken wings came out piping hot, crispy on the outside, and juicy inside. They have some options for different wing flavors. The fries were also delicious and well-fried. I hope the restaurant invests in more wait staff because there were times we needed something from the wait staff. Seeing how busy she was, or sometimes she's just in the front room, we haven't seen her in a while to get whatever we needed. Overall, it was a good experience. The food was good, and the atmosphere is very unique; it's definitely a nice place to get some Korean street food when you're in the area. The only things to note are that parking is limited, food will take a while to cook as it is made fresh, and there will be some waiting to be done if you need wait staff. Last thing to note: I love that they had some Korean Fusion dishes, and I wish I had a bigger stomach to try these as well during our visit, perhaps another time!

After I placed my order, she gave me the total and simply yelled, "One tteokbokki!" to the kitchen. I ended up waiting about 20 minutes for my food. During that time, nobody checked on me or gave me an update on the status of my order. Had I known the tteokbokki would take that long, I probably would have skipped it and just ordered kimbap. While waiting, I observed her interact with several other customers, including an older woman who had a few questions about the menu. Unfortunately, the staff member--who appeared to be the owner's daughter--seemed irritated and impatient. The interaction was uncomfortable enough that another customer stepped in to help the woman understand the menu. Customer service was definitely lacking. As for the food, I ordered three kimbap rolls and one tteokbokki, totaling around $40. The kimbap was fresh and tasted great. The tteokbokki had good flavor, but the portion was surprisingly small. It came with only about eight rice cakes, a few pieces of fish cake, and one egg. The rice cakes were also overcooked and lacked the chewy texture I was expecting. Overall, they offer a good variety of kimbap options, ranging from about $5 to $11, and the food itself was decent. However, the unwelcoming atmosphere really affected the experience. Maybe the staff member was having a rough day, but customers shouldn't feel the impact of that. I might give it a second chance, but I'm definitely on the fence.
