Marinated Galbi--solid!
Eunhae H.

Morangak in Garden Grove is the OG location, famous for their galbi, beef dishes, and cold noodles. You know this place is legit when you see tables full of elderly Korean patrons--even waiting in line! My go-to order here is always the Marinated Galbi and cold noodles (nengmyun). The staff grills all the meat for you, and they cook everything to perfection--serious veterans here! You can tell they know exactly what they're doing when it comes to grilling the meat. I've also tried their Wagyu Brisket, which was melt-in-your-mouth good! And they now offer rice paper, which is always a plus for wrapping up that deliciously grilled meat. The cold noodles come with white vinegar and hot mustard (gyuja) on the side, so you can add as much tang and kick as you like. Their spicy cold noodles are also delicious and, despite the name, really aren't that spicy. They also have a location in Fullerton, and I've found the quality of the food to be just as good there. But there's something about the Garden Grove location--especially the longtime staff and the expertise they bring to grilling the meat--that makes this one a little more appealing to me. I'm always coming back for their Marinated Galbi and nengmyun. Such a classic Korean combo, and Morangak does it right!

Just as phenomenal as the first time I've been to these restaurants. Staff are exceptional and so quick and helpful. Everything is so delicious. I can't rave enough about the experience dining here. Note: We were short on time on the last visit and outdoor seating was available more quickly but know there is no outside grill available. We could order most of the menu except for any grilled bbq meats. Whatever we ordered had to be fully prepared in the kitchen and then brought out to the table. Love it here and will continue to bring friends and family here for their savory and flavorful dishes.

We came on a Wednesday evening and the place was pretty crowded, but parking was easy both in the plaza and nearby. The ambiance was inviting and traditional, and the service was attentive. We decided to skip BBQ this time and focus on entrees. We had the Dongtac Maewoontang, which is a pollock soup, and the Dol Pan Nakji, spicy octopus. I was a little underwhelmed by the octopus. It was chewy, and the dish felt like it was missing some balance and tanginess. The soup was okay. I get the feeling they are probably better known for their BBQ, so we'll likely come back and try that next time.

We were in the area and my friend recommended this spot for KBBQ and the cold noodle. I didn't expect the cold noodle to slap so hard though! Each cold noodle comes with a mini version too, so we got the bibim naengmyeon and tried out the mini pyeongyang mul naengmyeon. I preferred the bibim naengmyeon because it was sweet and spicy, while my friends preferred the other since it was refreshing. The meats here are great quality too! We ordered the beef tongue and beef short rib a la carte since we weren't as interested as the combo meats. Mo Ran Gak has to be my favorite KBBQ in OC and probably even replaces my go-to in LA Ktown. Now I don't have to go so far to get quality KBBQ.

The staff here is so friendly. We came on a non busy Friday afternoon and ordered the non marinated beef combo for 3 for $155 and the cold noodle add on for $12. They brought us an extra serving of the spicy cold noodle to try as well! Also got seafood pancake. All the food was delicious and meat was great quality and flavorful. All of the staff was constantly attentive, refilling everything we needed and paced the cooking well! My favorite kbbq chain There's a small parking lot which is nice. Gets packed during busy times though.

Mo Ran Gak is a favorite pretty much amongst all my friends, both Koreans and non Koreans so you know it's good! Came here starving after a long tournament day with another family. We ordered two set menus and two bowls of cold noodles. Service is always great! The thinly sliced beef is so thin and delicious. The thinly sliced pork belly was a first for me and it was also incredible. I wasn't impressed with the Galbi this timed maybe it was because we were already so so full as it was the last meat to be cooked. We ordered two cold noodles one spicy and one plain. Both were tasty but i was about to vomit at that point. One of the best things about Mo Ran Gak is the accompanying rice noodle sheets they provide. My family loves them! The only thing I would harp on was they only gave us one bottle of water to share with 7 people. We kept running out immediately since the bottle was half filled with ice. They just kept refilling. Finally I just asked for another bottle of water for the table. This was all a little silly to me... but to their than that, they cook your meats at your tables for you, they were attentive and they refilled any side dishes happily upon request.

Not that any of us are expecting 5 star service at this business, but the male server in our area on Tuesday, July 21, was disrespectful, belligerent and spoke to us with violence in his eyes and voice. Absolutely unacceptable. I informed the manager (female at the register) and she minimized it and laughed it off. She basically said don't let his behavior bother you. Didn't you enjoy the food? That is not the correct response to give to a customer in this scenario. I regret inviting my friend here for her birthday dinner. I do not recommend this location. If you like their food, visit the other location in Fullerton. Shame on these two. This is not representative of true Korean culture and hospitality.

Go for the KBBQ but make sure to try their cold noodle soup! Came here for dinner with a couple friends. They used to eat cold noodle soup at a restaurant that's gone now so we were craving it. There's a small parking lot and a long line to get in so just be aware of that, but it's well worth the wait. Typical old school KBBQ vibes inside with a ton of staff running around. They were all very friendly and helpful, always on top of things. We got a nice big combo set for the KBBQ portion as well as a couple cold noodle soups. The banchan was very good and fresh, the meat quality is excellent, and the cold noodle soup hit the spot on a hot day. Brisket was melt in your mouth tender and the pork belly was the perfect thickness to get that crispy meaty flavor. Come early to put your name on the waitlist and prepare to wait. You'll be glad you did!

Super delicious naengmyeon spot for a hot day! We ordered the standard cold noodles (with broth, non-spicy) and love how it comes with a smaller portion of the spicy mixed cold noodles so that we could try both. The broth was super refreshing and the noodles were perfectly chewy. The mustard and vinegar on the side were great to change up the flavor. The spicy cold noodles were slightly sweet and not too spicy. The sides here are also flavorful! We waited about 20 minutes on a weekday lunch. Would definitely come back!

Mo Ran Gak has been on my list for a while, and I'm so excited to finally check it off with a few friends. Parking in the plaza is often full, and they have a lot across the street, too. Street parking is also fairly easy since it's residential if you don't mind walking a few minutes. Once there, there's often a short waitlist (~ 15 min). Our party had the Prime Non-Marinated Korean BBQ Combination for four and added a Boneless Short Rib. The first thing I noticed? Definitely the charcoal grill - my favorite! The staff cooked all the meats for us, and each was cooked well. There were a few time where the meats were lightly charred, though that was on us for eating a little too slow. Can't blame us though, we had good chats and shots. The sauces for the meat were all tasty as were the sides, which I devoured multiple rounds of, but if there's one I don't recommend it's the boneless short ribs... why had I not read that it was marinated? The marinate was way too sweet, an I'm sad that this was our last order to come out. It was by far a chore to eat and not the best way to end our evening. I highly recommend the Prime Non-Marinated Korean BBQ Combination, though!

Omg I love this place so much I could literally eat here everyday. We got the combo c which feeds 3-4 and it was about $180. Meat is so tender and delicious, and every single side dish is amazing. I was so excited to keep eating the pancake but apparently that is the only side that is not free refill :( The egg is the fluffiest steamed egg I've ever seen and the japchae is addicting. We also got the beef tartar and cold noodles. The tartar wrapped in perilla leaf has a sharpness to it and the sweet pear(or apple?) helps with the richness of the beef. I could eat the cold noodles forever, so easy to eat and refreshing.

Every time I come here there's always a line out the door so you know it's good. I visit pretty often for their mul naengmyeon and I love that it comes with a smaller portion of bibim naengmyeon on the side. The mul naengmyeon is easily my favorite. The broth is icy, slushy, and packed with flavor, while the noodles have the perfect chewy and bouncy texture. My only complaint is that I wish it came with a little more meat. I've tried cold noodles at a lot of places but this is still my favorite spot for naengmyeon. The side dishes are always delicious too, especially the mung bean pancakes. The service is quick, straightforward, and efficient, even when the restaurant is busy. The ambiance is a bit dated but that's easy to overlook when the food is this good.

Umm so I just found out about this place even though I've been living in Orange County for what seems like forever. LOL. Parking here can get tricky but luckily, there are some residential areas and a lot across the street for the overflow. The place gets pretty crowded but luckily, we got there before the lunch crowd took over. The inside is a bit dated but I didn't mind as long as the food slaps, and it definitely did. My friends and I ordered the prime non marinated kBBQ combo for two people. Even though there were three of us, it was still a good amount of food for us plus we ordered the naengmyun too both the spicy and non-spicy. My favorite is the brisket, that's always been my go to meat. The short ribs were also very tender and delicious. Actually, everything was pretty damn good but the brisket stood out the most for me. They are generous with their banchans and service was excellent. I really prefer having the workers cook the meat for us so that my friends and I can spend time talking instead of cooking.

Mo Ran Gak Restaurant Reviews in Other Languages

Ask the Community - Mo Ran Gak Restaurant

This place is marked as having outdoor seating. Is it still available this year?

Yes

Can you call and make reservations ahead of time?

Only if you have a large party. If I can remember correctly, I think a party larger than 9. Otherwise, they now offer an option where you can request to be on a waiting list via Yelp, if you're about 1-2 miles away from the restaurant. As a note,…

Last time I came they dont have the raw beef (yukhoe)? Do they get rid of it for good or they have it now?

They always had it when I've went. We order it every time we go. Maybe it was just that day they were out...?

Do you still have outdoor dining?

The last time I was there, the outdoor dining was under a tent, adjacent to the parking lot and restaurant building.

Hello do u have all u can eat today and how much per person thank you?

No they do not have an all you can eat. Meats, soups, noodles, etc are ordered off the menu, ala carte.

Do they have a lunch menu or is it the same as the dinner menu?

Are you guys open today 25th? If so are we able to make a reservation?

Yes we are open! I’m sorry we do not take any reservations anymore. We are now doing first come first serve basis. Thank you!

Are they open on Christmas day?

Yes, only closes every Mondays!

Do they offer takeout?

Yes they do!

Do they still have outdoor seating where we can sit with our dog?

Yes they do

Is it all you can eat?

No, it's by portion

Are dogs allowed for outdoor dining?

Yes! Pets are welcome for outdoor seating

Can you order the marinated meat combos for takeout raw? I wanted to have bbq night at home but mo ran gak has the best meat!!

Thank you! Yes! You can take any of the combos or a la carte raw! It includes all the sides, rice paper, rice, sauce and salad

Do they still give the sipping broth?

Yes

Is indoor dining open and are they grilling at the tables yet? Last time I went (last month) we were still sitting under tents and they were just bringing food to the table.

Yes indoor opened and feel safe and yea grill at table!!! Go early and sign up before restaurant opens and limited parking!

I have been trying to call for a week but no-one pick up? Are you guys still in business and open for inside dining?

Yes It is open for inside and outside dining. Are you getting the right number? 714-638-1177 its closed every monday

Are they open for indoor dining?

Yes

Do you currently take outdoor diners? Need to know if reservations are needed for this Saturday 7 people (4 adults 2 kids 1 baby)

They don't take reservations.

Is this place open now?

Yes it offers outside seating.

How is the dinner wait like for 6 people? What time would you recommend to beat the crowd?

Check in doesn't work. If you get there before 11 you will be seated right away (everyone must be there) but if you get there around noon, waiting can be from 15 minutes or more

Kind of reminded me of Baekjeong. Got the combo A that came with either a choice of pork belly or pork collar + beef brisket + choice of stew + cheese. Opted for the pork belly and soybean paste stew with seafood. I usually don't like pork belly, but the pork belly here was exceptional. The fat and juiciness was not like any other kbbq spot where you get tired of eating the meat. It was a plus that they had instructions of how to pair the meat with salt, cheese, or their other sides that they provided. The salt really enhanced the pork belly flavor and the cheese paired perfectly with the meat too. The soybean paste stew didn't really have much seafood in it that I noticed. Overall, plenty of seating and great customer service. I also like the set up of their grills here. Would definitely come back when in the area!

Ordered Combo C- with pork & Kim chee stew as our stew choice. Banchan of: Kimchee (very good, not too spicey, garlicky full of umami), bread & butter type pickle slices, cabbage & red pickled beet combo, mustard green(?), and pickled white radish/daikon. Interesting unexpected banchan. Staff sets up and cooks/cuts the meat for you. Much like Mo Rak Do up the street does. Combo C has a variety of pork pieces. Excited to try pork jowl for the first time. Ample portions. All fresh with the added bonus of aging sticker info for the pork belly. All the meats were VERY good. The belly had a nice distribution of fat to meat ratio. The jowl had high fat content with a slightly firmer bite to it. Great choice. We selected the pork & kimchee stew. Also very good. A side thinly sliced green onion salad also served. The dipping ingredients: course sea salt, wasabi, sweetened shoyu with garlic/green onion bits, & a samjang mixture. All very tasty. Course salt is a nice upgrade. Beautifully presented. Plenty of staff to attend to your table. Menu also has add'l meats to add for a larger group (table of 6 to our right). Honestly I was glad it was my female cousin & I. Too much competition to grab our meat portions if the 2 piglets had to share. A definite return in the near future. Yes, these aren't all you can eat prices. Because it's above AYCE quality meats. This place is a winner all around for service, food quality, adequate venting, parking isn't bad (strip mall). One thing noticed. I never did get my one bowl of rice. Gotta have meat & rice right? Well...miss piggy didn't miss it.

The ladies working here are kind and on top of things. My friend and I got the army stew to split. It was a TON of food. It was quite deceptive when it came out. When your order is brought out, they place a table top burner in your table first. Then the banchans come out. We got the Seolleongtang and soondae platter which was plenty to share between two people. We ended up taking half of the soondae platter home and enjoying it for breakfast the day after. For those not familiar with Seolleongtang, the soup comes out very basic. You're given a bucket of scallions, a little pot of salt, and shaker of ground pepper to season the broth as you please. I recommend adding a few spoonfuls of the radish kimchi sauce. Speaking of the banchan, Jong Ro prepares some of the freshest and most flavorful banchans on the street. I wish they offered a menu option that was just a bowl of rice and bottomless banchan. The soondae was perfectly springy, paired with a salted shrimp sauce and flavored salt dip. The platter also came with boiled (or steamed?) pork belly, pig ear, and other pork innards that were nicely cooked. I love restaurants like this because they are simply good at what they do. Nothing is over-the-top. There is always a constant stream of customers. The times I've gone have been during your typical slow hours and the place was always 60% full. I imagine the house is full during dinner time or on weekends and rightfully so. Definitely stop by if you're looking for a heartwarming and belly filling comfort meal.

I thought either the outside would be too mushy or the inside undercooked, but I was pleasantly surprised that the texture was consistent all the way through. We got the rose tteokbokki and the sauce had a good cream ratio. The spice is solid, a good kick at the medium level. I don't think the spiciest level would be overkill, and I will be ordering that when I come back by myself. We also order the fishcake soup which was wonderful. I recommend starting with the soup to warm up the palette and stomach. And something about a nice hot soup is so satisfying. The fish cake skewers were so fun to eat. We did leave one to soak in the broth and it absorbed so nicely without getting mushy and breaking apart. Also got the chicken. I always get the dumpling tofu soup (#17) with mild spice, and it's so consistently good every time. They also really pack in the amount of tofu in the soup compared to other places I've been to, so you can definitely get your money's worth. One thing they've introduced recently compared to the last time I was here was the addition of ordering from a tablet at the table. The service has always been quick regardless though. I'd recommend always checking their Yelp page ahead of time to join the waitlist before arriving just in case. Sometimes, they have people on the Yelp waitlist but they don't have staff actively checking it, so it's best to sign up and then arrive at the restaurant to let them know you're there. Overall, love coming to Kaju and I will always come back when I'm craving tofu soup!

Today, I witnessed an unpleasant interaction between Gina and another server. Didn't appreciate her dismissiveness towards him. Hopefully staff interactions will be more respectful in the future, especially when literally in front of customers who would like more professional conduct from restaurant staff.

This place is fireeeeeee Classic, delicious and sexy ass…read moreKorean Chinese food!! The tangsuyuk here is FOCKEN FIRE The batter is perfectly crispy and cronchy and the meat inside is so juicy and yummy. The sauce is so good, it's tangy, sweet, sour just MUAH! I ate tf out this dish.. we had to order rice bc it was so addicting... I dream about the tangsuyuk bro I usually order the jjamppong but I think the soup lacks some flavor and spice even tho I added a gang load of chili powder. They do pack that bih was hella seafood tho, like plump ass shrimps, squid, octopus and mussels. I think the jajangmyun is bomb!! It's so yummy, the sauce is perfect. I'll be getting this all the time now~ The Kung pao chicken is yummy too. Lots of chicken and I lovelovelove the spiciness in it. The peanuts add the perfect lil cronch as well The service here is great, servers are attentive and very informative when we asked a million questions This place is awesome!! Highly highly recommend for anyone looking for some dank ass Korean Chinese food

Disappointed!!!…read more Service (0) - our server displayed quite an attitude from the beginning as if we were bothering him. The owners should training him or he probably shouldn't be working in food industry or any kind of customer service related business. The way he handled the empty plates, carried/delivered food, and how he spoke to customers is very disappointing for an establishment like Peking Gourmet. Ambiance (1) - needs to update or modernize this place. Too gloomy and dark.
