For $25 you get a huge chicken katsu with curry pairing. The katsu was crispy, hot, and fresh when it came out. Very tasty! The curry itself is good, but doesn't have the same punch of flavor as other curry katsu places. Still good though! This dish could definitely feed 2 people. We also opted for the Ddeokbokki. This dish had great flavor and the rice cakes were cooked perfectly! Just as a heads up, if you are used to Ddeokbokki having extra's like fish cake and cheese, this does not come with it unless added. Overall, for value and flavor this is great! PARKING: Parking is tight in the complex and I would recommend getting there early just in case there's none available. WAIT/AMBIANCE: This place was packed when we arrived with a clear waitlist of 5+ parties. Try to get on the Yelp waitlist ahead of time to make sure you get seated in a timely manner. This is an interesting take on Korean food. They seem to take classic Korean dishes with a little twist. The donkatsu was very good. The crust was very crispy while the pork was still tender. The gravy was nice as well. And the dish is huge. The braised beef is like the classic galbijjim (braised short ribs) but with other cuts of meat included. It was good, but I think the standard galbijjim would have been better ... I'm not sure the other cuts of meat were as good. Ttokboki was just ok. Came here for dinner on a Friday night and the wait was around 20 mins for a party of 4. The restaurant is relatively small, but did not feel crowded and the service here was quick. We ordered 3 dishes and the portion sizes were huge (we even had leftovers). Fire!! Dawa is and has been my go to safe restaurant since I found it. There was a month where I dined literally once every week. I love the food. The Army Ramen, although basic, always hits the right spot I have no idea why. The Spicy Pork Rice is also top top. At this point I've tried almost everything on the menu and those two are the must tries. Service is always great! I always seat with this one server with the glasses to the point where he knows I'm coming and he knows exactly what I ask for! Super cool guy and amazing service. Everything is delicious but two notes I'd like to add is that there is a $3 up charge to add bulgogi to the bibimbap. I'm happy to pay the charge but the amount is very small and you end up not tasting the meat throughout the dish. My second note is that there is hardly any service, even as a sit down restaurant. Came here for the GIANT katsu! I went to Dawa Kitchen on a Friday evening and didn't have any trouble finding parking in the shopping plaza lot. We were seated immediately upon arriving and directed to scan the QR code on the wall to view the menu. You can get their giant katsu in either pork or chicken, with or without curry. We ended up deciding on the Curry Chicken Katsu. The handmade panko fried chicken comes on top of a stone pot of rice and sizzling curry! They even provide you with scissors so that you can easily cut the katsu into smaller pieces. The outside was perfectly crispy, and it was so yummy dipping into the curry sauce. They also offer a spicy curry for $1 extra. We also got a Bibimbap and added on bulgogi. It comes in a hot stone pot with assorted vegetables (bean sprouts, kimchi, shiitake, carrots, spinach, nori, and green onions), rice, and gochujang on the side so you can add as little or as much as you want. Since it comes in a stone pot, you get that nice crispy rice at the bottom, and the bibimbap stays hot the entire meal! They also have great banchan! I really liked their kimchi! The army ramen reminded me of college/grad school, nostalgic, comforting and warms the belly. I'm a big fan of Korean pancakes so the seafood pancake did not disappoint. Weather's gettin cold so I got the Beef soup. It was very hearty, rounded, and a reminder that even humblest of menu items can satisfy us. The bon chon is the milder side, whereas I like mine a lil punchier but thats just a preference no big deal. The restaurant is nice, dark, and had some cool wooden booths. I came at quiet hours but want to try coming back for drinks n see how it comes alive at night. Service was standard. They mostly left me alone to eat which also is not a big deal since I had no glaring issues w my meal. I'd say maybe one or two check-ups to see if the customer needs anything is always good. I wish the restaurant would lemme take home the bonchon though they only have to-go containers for the soups or entrees. read more

Came back to Dawa Kitchen because the first visit was so good, and once again it didn't disappoint! This time we tried: garlic Suk Yu, beef pancake, spicy tofu soup, pork katsu with curry, and of course our favorite, the bibimbap. Every dish came out fresh, flavorful, and full of that comforting homestyle Korean taste. The garlic Suk Yu just melt in your mouth , the beef pancake was crispy and paired well with the dipping sauce and topped with flavorful beef. The spicy tofu soup could have been spicier though. The pork katsu with curry was golden and crunchy, paired so well with the tasty curry sauce. And as always, the bibimbap stole the show, hearty, colorful, and just the right mix of textures. Service was excellent: friendly, personable, and attentive throughout, and portions are generous for the price. Definitely one of our go-to spots in Garden Grove when craving good Korean food! read more

We ate during friday night and the waitlist line is above normal. It was a little busy but the servers were accommodating and nice. We had the Curry Pork katsu and Garlic su yuk They gave 4 kinds of side dishes. The Curry Pork Katsu portion is big and came with 2 pieces. The coating is crispy and seasoned well, the meat is easy to cut and chew. The rice is under the meat and since it's in a claypot, the bottom part became crispy which I like. We had the sauce spicy and spiciness level is around medium. For the Garlic Su Yuk, the meat is very tender and it has a rich flavor in itself. My boyfriend liked this a lot. Spread a little garlic paste and spicy sauce on top and pair with rice. The green onions should be added to the broth while it's still simmering. Bonus points for their restrooms being clean and tidy. read more

Easy parking + short wait time at night. Ordered the chicken curry katsu ($25) and bulgogi stone pot rice ($24). Katsu is HUGE and delicious. Worth the price. Bulgogi was okay, I would skip next time. read more
