Amazinggg kbbq spot, the service was incredible and so attentive. The workers were so kind and so quick with grabbing waters, changing the grill, etc. I came with a few of my friends and we all had such a great time. The meat quality was so really good! Definitely recommend trying this spottt for your next dinner or lunch!

You get up to 5 items at a time when placed through the pad. You then have to wait 3 minute intervals to place another order which overall is pretty effective. Pictures were clear and the quality was good. Chicken wings were good in flavor but the heater may not have been on as it was somewhat room temp. Recommend LA Galbi, beef belly, Rib finger meat, and pork jowl. Grills do burn quite nicely as only needed 1 grill change from each side. 18% tip (38.00) applied to groups of 6 or more. Be wary of getting double dipped in the tipping section.

Came into town and came here with my kids and wanted to try this place out. It's ok , the marinated meat didnt have much flavor and some of side dishes they weren't filling the tray. They need to keep on filling the trays so people can eat what they want instead of asking for it, theres so many empty trays that's need s be refill and I came around 4:30pm salad, chicken wings etc, looks so empty, think they should always have it filled all the time. That's only 1 thing they can work on. Meat needs to marinate alittle longer for the taste. Service here was ok no complaint as well. They were very nice and attentive. Ambience here was ok. They got some chicken wings, egg rolls, sweet and sour radishes and etc as you enter the door. Overall was ok for me and my kids.

$23 Lunch Special!

This spot has improved significantly under its new ownership. The service model is streamlined with quick tablet ordering, and the food comes out quickly. The staff is energetic and attentive--shoutout to Scott, he was smooth and professional. The only downside is the missing Ajummas in the back, but the new team is doing a fantastic job. Went with the $23 lunch special and had to roll myself out afterwards. Ambience (7/10): It's a kbbq. Looks and smells like one. The Food (8/10): Repeatedly ordered the Prime Brisket, Prime Beef Belly, Garlic Pork Belly, and Teriyaki Chicken. Every cut was fresh, clean, and flavorful with zero complaints. Banchan & Buffet: The self-serve buffet in the middle was fully stocked, spotless, and packed with a huge variety of banchan and hot food options. Value & Service (10/10): You really can't beat the price for what you get. The restaurant was surprisingly busy for a Monday lunch. It's a clear upgrade from the previous management. I'll definitely be back to try the Galbi.

Been meaning to try this Korean BBQ, which also has a location in Koreatown, for a while. It is located in a large strip mall in Garden Grove on a street full of strip malls full of numerous restaurants. Parking is easy enough since the strip malls all have huge lots. Went in and it's a nice enough though nondescript interior. There is huge self-serve buffet bar with cooked foods, ban chans, and rice. I went for lunch, which is a real deal at $22.99. We usually stick to regular brisket and beef belly. I thought the meats were good quality, though this is not like one of those super pricey high-end wagyu places where the meat is exceptional and has the price to match that quality. Still, the meats were good. I was impressed by how clean the grills were, considering every other KBBQ I've ever gone to tends to have filthy grills. Not here, thank God! Service is very nice, with friendly, knowledgable, and attentive staff. The only somewhat humorous moment was the female server kept turning our flame down (due to smoke coming off our meats), and the male server would turn it back up. This went on a couple of times until we said something, and then the back and forth ended, so it was easily solved. As far as the drinks, the only thing missing was sake. I love me some sake with my Asian BBQs. The self-serve bar/buffet had an impressive amount of items. Japchae, cucumber kimchi, carrot kimchi, fried rice, potato salad, macaroni salad, deep fried dumplings, spring rolls, sesame balls, fried chicken... and believe me it had many more items. The best part was they had lettuce wraps (sanchu leaves), which for some reason very few Asian BBQs stock and the ones who do tend to give you one plate for $10, forcing you to keep spending money for lettuce. I don't want rice paper or radish wraps, so seeing lettuce wraps makes me ecstatic. The only problem I had with the huge self-serve bar was that everything was cold and wilted. The cucumbers had no snap or bite and seemed to have been out there a long time. The dumplings, spring rolls, and fried chicken were cold and soggy. I understand the problem. They put out a lot of food and then when its not busy the food just sits. Lunch on a weekday was basically empty, and hence the mushy, cold cooked foods. It's a shame. But it would help to figure out either how to keep the food warm with burners or heat lights or to put less stuff out and change it after a certain amount of time. Otherwise, the dipping sauce was good in my opinion. My co-diner didn't like the sauce, but it tasted like every other KBBQ sauce to me. It looked like it might've been slightly congealed but I think the sauce was just thicker than usual compared to other places. The sauce was not congealed. Will I be back. Maybe. The biggest problem for me is that I live an hour plus away without rush hour traffic. I wish there was a branch closer like in Diamond Bar or Rowland Heights. Heck, one in Temple City or Monterey Park or Arcadia would be nice. So if I'm not a regular, it is just because of distance. For anyone closer, I recommend trying it and taking advantage of their completely reasonable lunch and dinner prices. Try it!

Exceptional service, great food and nice clean location. This is my go to for good Korean BBQ. The lunch special is a great deal!

Just had dinner here and it was so good! The quality of meat was amazing and a lot better compared to other places. The service here was amazing, always asking if we wanted to order more meat, and was very attentive when we needed help.

I've eaten in this same Garden Grove KBBQ space across different versions, so Chung Dam wasn't just some random stop for me. Way back, I remember eating here during the New Seoul Garden days. Then came a management change, a closure, Chung Dam opening and what feels like another one or two changes after that. At this point, this space has had more resets than some video games. The current setup has been renovated, with updated seating and ordering tablets at the table. The space felt clean, and service was stellar and easily the best part of the meal. The staff was attentive, cordial and locked in the whole time. You could feel the fight in them, like they actually cared about keeping the floor moving and making sure people were taken care of. This was for lunch, which was $22.99, with 5 meats per order and a 3-minute cooldown. They do have more expansive premium AYCE options, so I'm only judging the lunch set I had. The lunch set had some positives, but the meat quality was inconsistent. The regular pork belly had a decent fat-to-meat ratio, but the smell while cooking was hard to ignore. Not light porkiness. Not normal grill smell. Just enough to make the bite less enjoyable before it even hit the plate. The beef belly looked promising at first, but also leaned chewy. Slight char, extra char, same result. At some point, the grill is no longer the suspect. The spicy pork belly was buried in gochujang-based marinade, but still came out chewy. There was so much sauce that the meat had to steam and reduce before it could really sear. Gochujang all over the grill. Tenderness nowhere. The garlic pork belly was one of the better meats, mostly because it didn't have that same pork smell. Not much garlic flavor and it cooked about the same, but at least the bite was easier to trust. The garlic chicken was the weakest meat. Came out in a bowl of oil and garlic, mostly salty, barely garlicky. Easy skip for me. The tofu soup came out already looking defeated. The copper pot was only about a quarter full, with smashed tofu, zucchini and mostly salt. No real jjigae comfort, just a salty side soup. The self-serve area has changed again too. Banchan and hot foods are still right next to each other, but the whole section feels smaller than before. They used to have these diamond-scored pork belly slices that were top-tier tender. Gone. Raw meats disappeared from that area roughly two summers ago when it got too hot, which made sense at the time, but it looks like they never came back. What's left was hit or miss. Pickled radish didn't taste fresh, napa kimchi was extremely sour and tteokbokki was okay at best. Japchae and stir-fried fish cakes were the bright spots. The fried veggie mix used to have battered sweet potato and potato crescents with onion rings all together in one tray. Today it's mostly battered broccoli and breadcrumb-coated onion rings. The wings were old and shriveled. Even the sesame balls looked one shade away from burnt and already deflated. Those were my favorite. Pain. No longer any fruit either. If you want something sweet, there's paid ice cream in a padlocked freezer. That freezer still made me laugh. Overall, Chung Dam has some good things going for it: clean renovated space, easy parking, smooth tablet ordering and genuinely great service. But for KBBQ, the lunch meats and self-serve section need to be stronger. Smaller selections should mean tighter quality and better execution. Instead, this felt like less variety without the upgrade. I'm rooting for them because this space has been a Garden Grove KBBQ staple for a long time. I'd rather see it get better than keep sliding. Great service. Clean room. Inconsistent food. That's where I landed.

If you see this sign, that is the sign to go there for a really good KBBQ experience.
Rangie T.

Finding a good Korean bbq in the Garden Grove area is like a needle in a haystack because there is an abundance of KBBQ restaurants in the area. Doing the appropriate Yelp research can sometimes land you a diamond in the rough find. Since I knew we would be in this area, Chung Dam looked interesting because they have a happy hour special which at first I was not clear how it worked, but when we arrived, the one woman team explained how it worked, and we right away selected our meats and off on our own to the well stocked and great variety self served Ban Chan buffet. Honestly, just that alone, you can get full and be satisfied with it, but you go to a KBBQ for the meats. With the HH menu, there's a limited selection of meats, but our go to are Brisket, beef belly and pork belly. As I mentioned the one woman team for the front of house staff, service was excellent. She single handedly took care of all tables bringing out meat orders, clearing tables and cashing people out, she honestly did better than some other restaurants we've been too with more staff. I definitely would come back here, but again only if I'll be in the area and it has to be during the Happy Hour time block

Big parking lot. We experienced friendly, attentive customer service, didn't even need to use the call button. Nice ambiance, although a casual atmosphere, I love the booth seating. Had such a wonderful dinner w the hubby! We were craving brisket, and opted for the lower tier menu price. Good price and quality. Dipping sauce is addicting. Self serve, all you can eat banchan. The banchan and kimchi soup, corn cheese, pretty solid! My favorite of the self serve fried appetizers were the fried spring rolls. We will definitely be returning here ! More pix next time! Sorry phone was left in the car :D

We celebrated our anniversary the only way true food lovers should: by aggressively grilling meat at Chung Dam Korean BBQ and calling it romance!! *Pro tip: checked in on Yelp, strutted in like VIPs, and only waited five minutes. Five!! That's basically winning the KBBQ lottery. *Parking is plenty, as the restaurant shares a huge lot with other stores. There are 4 menu tiers: Silver: $26.99 Gold: $36.99 Diamond: $58.99 Happy Hour: $21.99 We went Gold because we're loyal to our ride-or-die cuts: kalbi, finger ribs, brisket, and bulgogi. The meat quality? Absolutely fire!!!! The ribs were so tender and juicy every bite was oxytocin high!!! The brisket disappeared at an alarming speed. No regrets!! There's also a self-serve island of sides and garnishes, which is dangerous for someone like me who believes in "just one more scoop." The Korean fried chicken wings were tasty, crispy, criminally good!!! The japchae? Flavorful, slurpable perfection!! We left stuffed, glowing, and completely sated!! Plot twist: we loved it so much we came back the next day because apparently one anniversary dinner wasn't enough. Ryan, our server, remembered us (iconic behavior), welcomed us back, gave solid recs, and actually chatted with us like we were regulars already. Friendly service + elite meat = main character energy for the whole weekend. Would celebrate love & brisket here again!!! Definitely recommend if you're looking for good quality Kbbq in this area!!

This is one of my go-to KBBQ places! I always get the gold menu because I feel like it's the most bang for your buck, but there's three tiers and a happy hour menu to choose from. All of the workers are welcoming and very attentive. I like how there are all the sides in the middle for us to grab ourselves. The only complaint I have about the interior is that circulation isn't that great, especially on a hot day. I don't know if they even have AC because the last time I went there, it was so hot that my whole family was sweating and they had a bunch of fans that seemed to be the only things keeping the temperature slightly down. For food, all the meats are delicious and high quality! My personal favorites are the beef belly, beef tongue, pork jowl, raw king ribs, and rib finger. There's a huge variety of sides, but minor complaint is that they charge extra for certain sides such as steamed egg. Other than that, all the hot sides are great, I love their cheese corn, and I also think the veggies are really fresh! I'll definitely be back because it's a solid spot and there usually is never a wait!

Ask the Community - BBQ Chung Dam

Can you eat alone?

Sorry, but we kindly ask for a minimum of two guests per table.

Are reservations necessary?

How much would it roughly be for a party of 7? I have a birthday dinner coming up and want to make sure it accommodates everyone, especially since we usually split the bill…

Roughly $330-$360 for middle option with tips included.

Will you bring back solo diners? I want to try this place but no one to go with 😩

Sadly I don't think so..better off going to gens or I can BBQ or Mr BBQ as they allow solo diners

I have 2 kids: 2 years old and 9 years old. How much is the price for them?

Two year old is complimentary and we charge full price over 9 year old.

Is there a senior discount?

There is no senior discount at the moment

Can someone go by themselves or do you require at least two people to eat there?

We used to take solo diners however as of 11/1/2024 we are no longer accepting solo diners. We apologize in advance and thank you for understanding.

Do they have a corkage fee?

As of now, we are not taking outside alcoholic beverages.

Pricing for children?

Kids between 3-8 Diamond $38.99, Gold $24.99, Silver $19.99

Can 1 person do all you can eat option, or do you require 2 people minimum in a party?

We do take one person as well! $10 extra.

Do they have lunch specials?

It's $5 off from the regular price!

Is there room for party of 10+?

Although we do not have private rooms, we do have very spacious dining spaces than can cover more than 20 guests.

Is this an AYCE KBBQ restaurant?

yes!

Anyways, I've been coming to this place for many years and I do believe they do a great job when it comes to the food. However on my last visit, they gave me the wrong order. I ordered pork belly but received rib belly from another customer. The middle aged man and grumpy was the one that MADE the mistake. I didn't realized I have gotten the wrong order until driving home. I call them saying I got the wrong order and if I can get a refund or dispute because I am not going to pay for something I did not want. Upon calling, they asked if I can drive back and return it but I'm already an hour away on the freeway. They took down my name and number and said they'll redeem the same order in my next visit. Here I am visiting today, and I told them the situation and the same worker talked to me. He started lecturing me that I should've returned the food. "Food is food. If you don't like don't eat"... He continued to talk loudly and making a statement in front of this whole team and all of them looking like I was in the wrong. Excuse you? Did I ask for a box of bones? Weren't YOU the one that made the mistake? How RUDE and DISRESPECTFUL you are to the people helping your business. Please grow up and deal with situations more professionally. Hold yourself accountable for mistakes you made. Your customers are what keeps you in business Uncle. With that being said... I will never come back to this place ever again.

First time here, and this joint did not disappoint! I was craving something warm on a random rainy…read moreday and landed here. Service was quick, and I like how they cook the meats for you. Kind of reminded me of Baekjeong. Got the combo A that came with either a choice of pork belly or pork collar + beef brisket + choice of stew + cheese. Opted for the pork belly and soybean paste stew with seafood. I usually don't like pork belly, but the pork belly here was exceptional. The fat and juiciness was not like any other kbbq spot where you get tired of eating the meat. It was a plus that they had instructions of how to pair the meat with salt, cheese, or their other sides that they provided. The salt really enhanced the pork belly flavor and the cheese paired perfectly with the meat too. The soybean paste stew didn't really have much seafood in it that I noticed. Overall, plenty of seating and great customer service. I also like the set up of their grills here. Would definitely come back when in the area!

Ordered Combo C- with pork & Kim chee stew as our stew choice. Banchan of: Kimchee (very good, not too spicey, garlicky full of umami), bread & butter type pickle slices, cabbage & red pickled beet combo, mustard green(?), and pickled white radish/daikon. Interesting unexpected banchan. Staff sets up and cooks/cuts the meat for you. Much like Mo Rak Do up the street does. Combo C has a variety of pork pieces. Excited to try pork jowl for the first time. Ample portions. All fresh with the added bonus of aging sticker info for the pork belly. All the meats were VERY good. The belly had a nice distribution of fat to meat ratio. The jowl had high fat content with a slightly firmer bite to it. Great choice. We selected the pork & kimchee stew. Also very good. A side thinly sliced green onion salad also served. The dipping ingredients: course sea salt, wasabi, sweetened shoyu with garlic/green onion bits, & a samjang mixture. All very tasty. Course salt is a nice upgrade. Beautifully presented. Plenty of staff to attend to your table. Menu also has add'l meats to add for a larger group (table of 6 to our right). Honestly I was glad it was my female cousin & I. Too much competition to grab our meat portions if the 2 piglets had to share. A definite return in the near future. Yes, these aren't all you can eat prices. Because it's above AYCE quality meats. This place is a winner all around for service, food quality, adequate venting, parking isn't bad (strip mall). One thing noticed. I never did get my one bowl of rice. Gotta have meat & rice right? Well...miss piggy didn't miss it.
