Shik Do Rak is a really solid Korean BBQ spot with consistently delicious food. Everything we ordered was on point--fresh meats, great flavor, and overall a very satisfying meal. The only reason I'm giving 4 stars instead of 5 is because it can get very busy, and service slows down a bit during rush times. When I came with a friend, we had to flag the host a few times for refills and extras, and when you're really hungry, the wait can feel longer than it should. That said, once the food arrives, it absolutely delivers. Quality is great, portions are good, and it's a place I'd still come back to--just ideally during a less crowded time. We came in as a large group in the middle of a Friday and it unfortunately happened to be at the same time as another large group. There was plenty of seating, but definitely understaffed during this time (around 3PM). We waited about 20-25 minutes before being seated so they could open up the 2nd half of the space. It's AYCE as well. The waitress seemed overwhelmed and some items took a long time like water or sides of rice, but after she got some more assistance, seemed in a better mood! You're able to order 3 meats at a time and then any of the sides. All the meat quality was pretty good! Decent marbling and it's a cook it yourself spot. We really liked the brisket, rib fingers, and the pork neck the best. We have been coming here for a couple of decades and love it here. Always top service, VIP treatment until our fav server no longer works there. We'll give it a few more tries since they are adjusting to a new crew. They have a small parking lot but there's always a parking attendant if you need to leave your keys for stack parking. They have great options for their AYCE menus, but we stick to our regulars having been a regular here for years. They have a great variety of side dishes. Love their marinated galbi, thin pork belly and brisket meats. We usually order their tofu soup & steamed eggs (the best)! Steamed rice is also always perfectly made. We get an order of their onions & mushroom, fresh garlic slices & jalapeño, we add brisket sauce and lemon to their salt/pepper sesame oil dipping sauce. Ambience is nice, open space. Showed up around 10:45 pm and last call was at 11:30. We were able to get seated immediately for a party of 7 and began ordering right away. The menu we chose was AYCE for $26 and this had all the standard choices of cuts I enjoy eating. Our table rotated between brisket, beef belly, thinly sliced pork belly, and fresh/thick cut pork belly. Towards the end of our meal, we only ordered thick cut pork belly and beef belly as this was our favorite. Considering that staff and management kept reminding us that we only had until 11:30 to order, the service was quite slow. We ordered several plates of each dish at a time and only a single plate of eat cut would arrive. Before last call, we ordered 4 plates of specific cuts and only one showed up for each cut. I'm not sure how to improve communication but it left us feeling unsatisfied by the end of the night because we could have eaten more. It was quite upsetting because we thought we specified plate number to receive that amount, and even had to ask the server if they could make an exception after last call. Luckily they were able to compensate with 2 plates but it still didn't feel quite enough. Bonchon was served and this was able to get refilled whenever someone was available to come round with the cart. There was good selections to choose from and had good flavor. It was unfortunate because we got seated pretty far in the back of the restaurant which also contributed to slow service. The grill also felt unstable at times and because the grill does not directly have a 'slot' to fit into, it can slide around and leaves open gaps for the heat to seep out from. Caution leaving metal plates and bowels close to the edge as it can heat up fast! As the night came to a close, it felt very rushed again as they were trying to close the register and kick everyone out ASAP. They also kept coming around to remind us that we only had X amount of time before they closed and to finish all meat to avoid a charge. Considering that the service was slow, we didn't get enough to eat, and they kept rushing us, it was not a great dining experience. Before leaving, you can get some blueberry ice cream on the way out. This reminds me of a tart frozen yogurt that is blueberry flavor and was a good way to end the night. Overall, I'd come again but would request to sit a bit closer, come earlier if possible, and be WAY more specific when ordering with staff. First time visit on March 14, 2026 This is a very solid AYCE KBBQ spot where the sides were plentiful and our meat orders came out quickly. The establishment itself is comfortable with a good vibe and they offer free valet (which was really amazing as well. The guy was really nice and helpful). The main reason for 5 stars though (I wish I could give more) was due to our server, Darren(Darin?). He was amazing! He was friendly, engaging, quick, patient...... and best of all he checked in on us often enough that we weren't running out of food but also not too often where it disrupted our feeding frenzy. This used to be my favorite restaurant during the mid to late '90's. I can't count the number of times I used to come here with my family. But, that's all in the past. I couldn't believe all the stickers on the door of the entranceway. Luckily when I stepped inside, it was clean. The interior was not how I remembered. It's obviously been renovated and updated since I last remember. My group was the first to arrive. They had just opened at 11:30 AM. There were three young employees. They have a process where they lay out all the side dishes before they seat people at the table. We ordered a combination. It came with an egg dish; tofu soup; white rice; and variety of meats, mostly beef, but some pork. There was quite a bit of fat on the beef that we cut off and discarded. We also ordered a plate of Japchae and seafood pancake. The food was still as delicious as I remembered, it was the fact that we had to keep requesting service that this restaurant gets three stars. We had to request bowls of lettuce; hot barley water; another pair of scissors to cut our meat because the first ones were dull; a new grill because the first one was all black and burnt; more rice wraps; etc. The restaurant is large, but there were maybe 5 separate groups here during the week, at lunch. If you get here a little before opening the parking isn't open to the left of the restaurant entrance. You can still get to the parking by driving down Galway St and then making a left into the parking behind the restaurant. We were one of the first people to be seated when they opened at 11:30 on a Sunday. The servers were really nice. They were never too far so we could easily request for things we needed. One of them also cut one of them eats we ordered. They were quick to jump in and replace the grill before we noticed it was getting too burnt. The portions are quite big so we were good with the smaller serving combo for two people. The marinated meat was delicious. It had great flavor. I would have also been happy eating brisket only. It had a fresh taste. The side dishes were alright. We split the egg soup between two people. I wish they had the mashed potato side dish that's in the shape of an ice cream scoop. We've had multiple visits now where there's barely any service, even though there are plenty of employees around. On top of that, orders come out wrong or items are missing altogether. More than half the employees look lost or hates their job. After almost two decades of coming here, it's disappointing to see it at its lowest point. For a last minute thing, this was a good choice. Not only it was open pretty late for a Korean bbq place. There's a lot out back for parking. I'm sure you could also find street parking as well. Checking in was not bad. Said it was a five minute wait list but it was pretty quiet as it was around 9 pm. It was basically to set up for us. Also, the good thing with this place. They have a good selections of side dishes compared to a few others with only a few selections offered. Price wise was good for your classic and then an additional for the premium. It wasn't much different but affordable. Meat didn't take long to arrive which is nice when you're hungry. The selections and quality of meat were nice, seasoned well. The soups also did the trick and flavored and season well. They do change the grill like most places do. I've visited this location before, but my experience on 2/14/26 night was completely unacceptable due to terrible management and a lack of basic communication. Our group of 4 arrived at 11:15 PM and was seated immediately. Despite the slow service for our first two rounds of meat, we were told "last call" at 11:45 PM. We specifically asked if we could order a double round of meat; the server agreed and brought it out a few minutes later along with the check. We paid immediately, assuming we'd have time to actually eat what we just bought. Then at around 12:05 AM, a female host came to our table and told us, "Just so you know, we are closed now and you guys have a few minutes to eat." This was incredibly shocking considering we hadn't even had the chance to put the last round of meat on the grill yet. At 12:15 AM--barely an hour after we arrived--the server returned and told us, "Sorry, we are closed now and you guys need to go." We stood our ground, pointing out that we had just paid for all these meat, so we must eat them. "Well if you want, you can talk to our owner" --" Sure tell him to come see us", in which the server left and came back saying the owner "granted" us 15 more minutes. By that point, the atmosphere was ruined. We felt harassed and disturbed while trying to shove down food we had rightfully paid for. There was zero heads-up about a strict time limit when they accepted our last-call order. If a restaurant isn't going to let customers finish the food they just paid for, they shouldn't accept orders 15 minutes before closing. They made sure we paid and tipped before kicking us out with no valid reason. This was a display of horrible management and unfriendly dining environment. There is a smaller parking lot behind the restaraunt with a decent amount of parking spots. Typically, wait times are not usually that long here but there is an option to put your name down on the waitlist. Inside, they have a pretty spacious interior with a good amount of seating. I stopped by with the big back homies for dinner around 7pm and we were seated right away. I already knew the food was going to hit after the long day I had at work. We opted for the $33.99 per person AYCE menu and everything was delicious. My favorites were the Beef Belly and the Marinated Finger Ribs. Overall, I enjoyed the authentic flavors and the laid back ambiance of the restaurant. All of the staff here are very friendly and welcoming. Shik Do Rak does not get enough praise as one of OC's most underrated KBBQ spots! I went here with a group of friends recently and it was not busy at all on a Wednesday night. The restaurant's parking situation is kind of weird LOL -- even finding the entrance was confusing at first. I will say though that Shik Do Rak has such a nice interior and my group and I really liked how the tables were arranged in a circular table instead of the usual rectangular ones! It made it much more intimate and all the tables are kind of bordered off, so you won't feel like you're sitting so close to other people LOL. The servers were super friendly and attentive! They were ready to take our orders and assist us with whatever we needed. We of course ordered ALLL the meats, including brisket, pork belly, and beef tongue just to name a few. The spicy tofu was so comforting and the entire meal in general left me and my group feeling so satisfied! Also really appreciated how they offer ice cream at the end, matcha will always be my go-to flavor! Tried this place for the first time over the weekend - had no expectations going in aside from it's a friend's favorite kbbq spot. We got the middle of three AYCE options since we wanted beef tongue. Seating is spacious, service is great, our server had banchan constantly refilled. The cucumbers, kimchi, rice paper, and radish were top tier. The price point is great for the amount of options you get. All the meats we got were delicious, they made sure we were decked out with the three sauces (brisket, oil/salt, hot sauce) at all times. The ventilation hoods above the table operate well. The wait staff provided very good service, including periodic change out of the grid iron (grill). Our server rarely checked on us and when we tried to order another round he responded rudely by saying it will take him a while because he has to fill other orders for other tables which is understandable however why did he feel the need to respond that way, also the restaurant was hardly full. They also had their last call 45 minutes before they closed and did not inform us that the last call included sides, rice paper, and sauces.
