My friends LOVED this place and I couldn't agree more! Ample parking + seating + friendly service + reasonable prices + huge food portions. We split a jajangmyeon and sweet & sour pork between three people and still had leftovers. I would recommend trying this place if you never have before, there's a reason why they're a staple here!

It has been a while since I visited Peking Gourmet, but I was craving their black bean noodle so bad. Hands down still the best black noodle spot! There was so much meat in the sauce and the noodles are perfect texture. I also love their walnut shrimps! The portion is huge as always! Also tried their salt pepper squid for the first time and It was bomb! They def get their batter down for their fried stuffs. Service is nice as always. I happy to see that the restaurant is booked and busy. Please don't ever move away!

Back again and still tasty! Still loved the walnut shrimp and the black bean noodles! We got the Mongolian Beef also The server helped us and gave us recommendations on how to eat the noodles. Love this place. Such an interesting restaurant of mixture of Chinese and Korean!

This is one of the better Korean-Chinese restaurants in OC. Can't go wrong here. Definitely order the jjajangmyeon. Share it so that you can save room to enjoy the other dishes on the menu like the fried shrimp or fried rice. It was not busy at all when I came.

I came with friends who were very familiar with the restaurant. Followed all their recommendations and everything was delicious and each dish had a unique flavor. It's as authentically Chinese/Korean flavors as I ever crave and it'll be a regular stop for me as often as I can. I can't wait to take my dad here for dinner because it has our favorite Sizzling Rice Soup the way we enjoyed it when I was growing up. pan fried dumplings- excellent, perfect oily crispy goodness and the filling was the best I've enjoyed in a long while sizzling rice soup- must have for comfort food walnut shrimp- generous portions all around- perfectly fried and candy glazed sweet and sour chicken- crispy goodness!! jjangmyeon (sp??) another crowd favorite!! fried rice- a favorite Mongolian beef- flavorful too Note to try their egg rolls next time so I can hopefully enjoy another favorite appetizer of mine. Service was very quick and helpful. They were so kind on our visit and attentive to clearing our plates. Despite some of the reviews below, my first visit here went very well. We were celebrating two friends' birthdays and it was such a delicious get together.

We came for a late weekday lunch and there were many older Koreans enjoying their meal here, that's how you know it's good. We ordered two dishes: large Black Bean noodles & Sweet and Sour Pork. It was perfect shared amongst the 3 of us. The food was prepared very fast after ordering and the workers are really nice. The restaurant was bigger than I expected with lots of indoor seating. ig: @cravingswithcat

I came here with a large party (29 people with 3 tables) and had such a good experience. First of all the staff is super nice and food came out so fast after ordering. You can call to make ressies! The best parts: - free kimchi - water taste soo good - honey walnut shrimp was such a big portion - very well priced and accommodating highly recommend if you are looking for a place for a large party! They dont charge a minimum per table but they do automatically include the tip which is more than fair since we were such a large group. Still was the cheapest option for a group of our size.

This place has been in the community for decades and they're well known for Korean owner but great, very decent reasonable prices and the black ink noodles. I had been to this place over 3 decades. Used to go here with my kid and/or with his friends & cousins. I also had through family Christmas for a group of 70 people. The place is big and can handle over 250 people easily with private rooms and common area. Parking is easy since they do have a good size of parking lot. Clean and simple but Chinese vibe for sure. The staff here are very nice, attentive, helpful and only guys (have not seen a woman beside the cashier or owner at the front desk). The menu has plenty & simple of typical Chinese or American/Chinese dishes. Don't get me wrong, I like it and reminded me of the early years. Easy and fast turn around for sure. Tasty and nice portion, it's not the best nor the worst but worth it for the price and yummy. This place used to be Packed all the time during lunch time or weekends & holiday. But it easy less these days. Took my kid and went here for late late lunch or very early dinner so just 3-4 tables but same taste, consistency and nice, warm service. So glad I stopped by, been a long time since I was here.

Walnut Shrimp, Beef Fried Rice and Sweet and Sour Pork! Yummmm!

For my early birthday lunch, my family finally checked out this place in Garden Grove around 12pm. We were greeted and sat immediately in their larger party area (place is perfect for big dining groups or parties) Looking through the menu, they have really affordable lunch specials but we opted to do dinner portions. We went the honey walnut shrimp, sweet and sour pork, beef fried rice, and chicken chow mein. For an appetizer we also got the sizzling rice soup. Our server was talking to our nephew entertaining him and everything which was very thoughtful! Food came out pretty quick. Our server brought the soup out with the crispy rice and poured it on there before serving it to us. The soup was light and delicious! Next all our main courses came out! One thing I have to say is even though we ate a lot of it and it filled us up, everything tastes light! The sweet and sour pork was very crispy! The walnut shrimp was delicious and crunchy as well! The chow mein was great but my favorite had to be the beef fried rice. It was packed with beef and tasted amazing! We paid around $100 plus tip and for how much food was left over, I think it was a great value! The hostess at the front was really appreciative of the tip we left, asked how everything tasted, and invited us to come back again. Overall, this place is awesome! From the friendly service and to the amazing food and value, I would I highly recommend getting your Chinese food fix here! Definitely will be coming back soon!

Jjajangmyeon is one of my favorite Korean dishes so I'm picky but this was sooo good. The noodles were chubbier than I'm used to but I still liked it and the flavor and sauciness level were on point. I also like that you can order a half portion here to try more dishes. The tangsuyuk is almost never my pick at Korean-Chinese restaurants but wow it was so crispy and fresh here so did not regret ordering. This place was also full of locals that seemed to know the servers and workers here which was nice to see. My new favorite Korean-Chinese fusion in the area!

    David W.

They say MSG is bad for you but what kind of life would it be if you didn't have it? And why, oh why does it taste so good? The prime example would be Chinese food. More specifically Chinese fusion food. Even more specifically Chinese-Korean fusion food. Garden Grove used to be littered with places like Peking Gourmet before the vast majority of Koreans migrated to Fullerton & Buena Park. Peking Gourmet, however, stands strong in a city that has South East Asian food as its dominant cuisine. Thanks to them Garden Grove serves as a destination for people looking for a filling bowl of Chachiang Mein or a Spicy Seafood Soup for those in need of a hangover cure. You add on some salt and pepper squid, string beans and or sweet and sour pork to complete the start of a perfect Sunday. Sometimes it's the simple things in life, like MSG filled food that really matter and bring you joy. Stay being grateful for the little things that are actually the big things my friends.....

Came as a party of 3 at 1 PM on a Saturday. The place was busy, but there was no wait. Parking can be difficult depending on the time of day, you may have to drive around the plaza to find a spot. We ordered the fried shrimp with hot garlic sauce, jajangmyeon, and tangsuyuk. Standard service, huge portions and great bang for your buck. If you were to only get one dish, I highly recommend the fried shrimp! It was crispy and delicious. The sauce was amazing! You can't go wrong with the jajangmyeon either. I would pass on the tangsuyuk, it was a little dry and you can find better at other restaurants. I cannot recommend this restaurant enough!

Whenever I'm in Garden Grove, Korean and Vietnamese cuisine will always take precedence. However,…read moremy most recent trip pivoted from the norm, and Noodle Star became the destination. The end result? Reasonable prices, warm service, and very tasty food. Like so many Chinese restaurants, the name and theme is inherently confusing. Up until last year, the place was Harbor Garden and it's rebranded to Noodle Star ever since. The Chinese name ("川粵" aka "Chuan Yue") would imply there is a Sichuan + Cantonese component to the offerings, despite the words "teppanyaki" and handmade noodles (手工麵) noted on the exterior as well as on signs on the interior. Typically any restaurant that dabbles in multiple regional Chinese variations (Sichuan, Cantonese, Shanghainese, Lanzhou, etc.) is a huge flight risk. Surprisingly, it all worked out. All of my orders were from different regions of the country, starting with a Cantonese beef chow fun (乾炒牛河) that was delightfully smokey from the wok hei (#1) and the noodles and beef were silky and smooth. While the noodles aren't as wide as I would have liked, they were still 100% workable in the dish. The Taiwanese style popcorn chicken (鹽酥雞) was wonderfully fried and the chicken was still juicy on the inside. Their napa cabbage + shrimp + pork steamed dumplings (白菜豬肉蝦水餃) were pillowy soft and steamed perfectly. They were plump and not too doughy; which is very appropo for a northern Chinese dish. The biggest surprise may have come from the soup dumplings (小籠包), which had just the right amount of soup and a very delicate dumpling skin that was downright excellent. The service was kind, attentive, and very bilingual with Mandarin and English. Prices might feel high to non-Cali folks, but the spectrum is very much on the Socal average. (#2). Bathrooms were mostly clean and the seating options were plentiful; solid for large and small group action. Parking can be tough on the weekends since it's a strip mall. I already know that I'll be back. If I was able to order 4 regions and they all came out excellent (#3), I can only imagine how excellent the rest of the house special group of dishes will be. __________ (#1) "Essence of the wok" -- it's a thing. This helped us get a table much faster than we would have than if we had just shown up and waited. We ordered the large family meal, and there were 12 of us. We also ordered the Newport Lobster, fish fillet with black bean sauce, and an extra shrimp fried rice. Overall, I think the food was good, and the prices are reasonable (except the lobster, which was pricey, as you might expect from anything listed as "market price"). Most of us in the group thought the fish fillet with black bean sauce was the best. I thought it was very good, but not necessarily fantastic. (There are other Chinese restaurants that do it a little better.) The sauce was very good, but the fish wasn't quite as tender as it can be. Definitely a solid 4 stars. Other dishes were good. I think the scallop soup could have been great for some people, but my wife and I both hate cilantro, and there was a ton of cilantro. The pork was also good, and my friends thought the clams were also really good. I found the fried rice a bit bland. And for both the lobster and the crab, they could have made them a little easier to eat by cracking the shells a bit more for us. I hate fighting with my food ... And there was a fair amount of fighting on these 2 dishes. The lobster cost almost much as all the other dishes combined. It certainly looked amazing. And the sauce was very good. But I found most of it a bit overcooked. Maybe it was our fault for asking for a big one. Maybe a smaller lobster might have been cooked a little less. The great sauce (along with the fighting with the shell) might have covered up the fact that the meat was actually a bit tough and rubbery. I don't think I'd order this again. The service was very friendly and pretty fast. And, again, other than the lobster, the pieces were pretty reasonable.

Our servers were attentive and friendly. I think it helped that my friend was a familiar customer. We came on a Monday afternoon around 11:30 and It was early enough where parking was still available. We ordered the classic dishes, including salt and pepper fried pork chopsand salt and pepper fried shrimp, but the taste this time around left a lot to be desired. These two dishes lacked the crunchiness and flavors that these fried entrees are supposed to showcase. We found the pork chops to be dry and tough, as if it was prepared a while ago and sitting out for some time before it made its way to our table. The shrimp was not impressive either. At least the shaking beef or bo luc lac was good. The beef chunks were tender, and the flavors were on point. Bonus points for the broth that is complimentary during lunch. Also the complimentary orange slices were a nice touch to end our meal. We'd still return for the lobster and noodle when the occasion comes up.

It makes the place feel welcoming for the diverse, multicultural families that gather here. If you're looking for a solid spot for a family-style Chinese dinner, this place has stood the test of time for us.
