Really straight forward. Pick from a menu... they're katsu are pretty good. I mean the meat is tender and the flavor straight on. You get to grind the sesame seeds while you wait. Ingot the pizza version... it's actually a bit too much. Should have went with a classic. Having it as a combo is a good way of getting super full. But i got to say, the soba noodles were spot on. Not bad! Good service first of all. I would skip the fish katsu and soba, and would definitely go for the udon if getting a katsu + noodle combo. The regular pork katsu is reallllly good though, and so is the sauce. If we come back, will definitely stick with the classic. read more

I usually get take out from here and love their chicken curry katsu. My usual order used to be just the chicken katsu but the curry adds on an additional level. I was in Buena Park for a hair appointment and was recommended this place, so I ended up ordering to-go: one pork katsu and tteokbokki combo along with two pork katsu sets. It's pretty difficult to impress my parents with outside Korean food, but even they were surprised with the quality and quantity of food provided. They were especially in love with the tteokboki, which was not too sweet and had great rice cake texture. The katsu was pretty typical but I loved the corn potage (or potato?) they provided on the side. I highly recommend Joon Katsu. Absolutely delicious katsu options at very reasonable prices. Excellent staff. Interior is a bit tight when it gets busy but the staff is very efficient. Portions are definitely on the generous side so come hungry. Delicious side dishes too. Shares the parking with Zion supermarket plaza so parking was a breeze as well. Afterwards, you can check out a dessert spot nearby and get some grocery shopping done too! Recently opened is Joon Katsu and their Katsu was life changing (seriously!) I ordered the Spicy Rice Cake + Tonkatsu Combination and that along can feed two. The Katsu was perfectly fried, super crispy, yet retaining the juicy and tender interior. I really enjoyed the sides of curry they provided to dip the Katsu into. Between the spicy mayo sauce and curry, I preferred the curry :) We didn't even get to really dig into the rice cake because the portions were just HUGE! The rice cakes were pretty spicy and savory, the rice cakes nice and chewy. HOWEVER, the standout was most definitely the sweet potato Katsu. Ive never had the sweet potato spread across the top of the Katsu, but the blend of umami pork and sweet potato was perfection 12/10. The inside of the store is very humble and feels like ones home. I went here wanting to try another donkatsu restaurant in Buena Park. I ordered the donkatsu and soba combination. The combination adds the option of ordering either soba or udon. The portions are large, so I'd recommend coming here especially hungry. Aside from complementary banchan and a creamy soup, we also ordered steamed dumplings and crispy shumai as appetizers. These were all decent, and the steamed dumplings' filling included meat and japchae. The donkatsu, cut into thick yet tender slices, tasted delicious. Its portion was just right and came with a sweet and tangy dipping sauce. The dish also came with a shredded cabbage salad with a bottle of Japanese-style dressing already placed on our table. I wish that it came with more rice, though. It was my first time eating soba noodles, and I enjoyed it. There was a dipping sauce that tasted like a lighter and sweeter variant of soy sauce. From reading more about this sauce online, I believe this was mentsuyu. There was also a small bowl of relishes, including wasabi, grated daikon, and chopped scallions. By itself, the soba had a nutty flavor. I decided to pour the sauce and relishes into the soba, which made it refreshing with a delicious blend of savory and sweet flavors. Service was good, and the staff was really nice. The restaurant wasn't busy when we ate here. The ambience was relaxed and casual. Drove a couple miles to Buena Park on a whim for lunch. Was craving some variant of fried chicken and found this establishment right next to Zion supermarket. Parking is quite abundant since Joon Katsu shares the same parking lot as the grocery store, so no problems there. It's a smaller shop so the interior is a bit cramped with less seating (although very clean) as it gets moderately busy during lunch hours, but that's what adds to the charm I'd say. The staff was amazing; got me seated right away with some banchan to stave off my hunger. Even better, they got my order out in under 10 minutes. Super efficient service definitely brightened my mood a good bit! The banchan included some cucumber kimchi, radish cubes, jalapeno slices, bean sprouts, and some soup (not too sure what type it was but I enjoyed it). I honestly wasn't expecting any banchan to come out to begin with, so I was just happy to have something to snack on. Not much to say except the vegetables had a great crisp, so I was more than satisfied. Again, props to the staff for getting that out so quickly. I decided to order the classic chicken katsu, which came with some warm katsu sauce, a cabbage salad, and a scoop of white rice. The katsu breading was perfectly crisp, even with the sauce poured over it. Of course, the meat was sufficiently moist. Keeping the sauce warm was a great idea so the chicken didn't get cold so quickly. The salad was fine, nothing to write home about but it tasted fresh. My only note would be that I would have preferred a larger standard portion of rice, but that is variably subjective for most people anyways. Pricewise, it came to around 20ish dollars including tax. Given the quality service and the size of the katsu, I think it was well justified. If you live around the area, I definitely recommend checking it out. read more

We originally intended to dine in some other katsu restaurant but it was closed that day. Desperately looking for another place quickly we found this one nearby n just went for it without looking at any reviews. The menu was fairly simple which I liked. We all got katsu: chicken n pork. Prices were reasonable. Service was good. The server (could b the owner, i dunno) was friendly n always smiled when talking to us. The pork katsu was tender n juicy (rare to see, especially for $16). We also got the spicy version n the kick was there but not overwhelming so it was nice. We added curry sauce to try but the curry had carrots n other vegetables in it so if u r not a fan of that style then don't get it. Maybe that was why it was $2 extra. All katsu came w its own dipping sauce which was delicious already. Surprisingly the chicken katsu cost $1 more. But it was equally good. Bcos this was a Korean restaurant you got their side dishes n they were pretty flavorful but the jalapeños was quite spicy. That almost killed my tongue. We went on a Thursday night so it wasn't crowded. My bf ordered the katsu with curry and I ordered the combo with katsu and soba noodles. The katsu was super crispy and airy. It didn't feel dense although it was deep fried. The soba noodles was refreshing. Noodles were al dente. They even brought out an extra dipping sauce for my bf. The banchans were all delicious. They were several different types of pickled veggies. The radish kimchi was my fave!! The best part was the service. I've been wanting to try this place but wasn't sure. When we entered, there were three tables filled with used dishes and only one worker so I was a little bit nervous. However, she was very friendly and we ordered and then she cleaned up all the tables and suddenly, it felt like it was going to be a good experience. I ordered spicy pork Katsu and I really thought the Katsu was nice. It was crunchy on the exterior and moist on the interior and did not have a lot of fat or gristle or anything so I was very pleased with the Katsu. Plus, it was a pretty decent large size. However , the "spicy curry" was on the side and really tasted more of like a hot barbecue sauce kind of thing. I was pretty disappointed, but not because it didn't taste good but just because it wasn't what I was craving. The shop is small the decor is simple and clean like a classic mom and pop shop. Probably seats about 20 people. The katsu is really good, especially the pork katsu the spicy pork katsu has just the right amount of heat. The meat is tender and the breading is crisp. It comes with some pickled vegetables a small dolap of rice and some cabbage salad with a thousand island type dressing. I've had it with the curry also but it's more of a Korean curry and not a Japanese curry so not really my thing. I've also had the soba which is a buckwheat soba. Banchan was excellent, a great selection, and it was all fresh and plentiful. Dinner was awesome, I'm very memorable occasion. I've searched around the City of Buena Park in depth to locate a new katsu spot, but unfortunately I could not so I decided to go to Joon Katsu once more after a few years and thankfully they still are one of the more modest katsu spots! **** [What did We Order]- Party of 2 1x Combination - Donkatsu and Udon -Opted in for the Tenderloin Total: $30.00~ with Tip ---- The Service: 5/5 Upon entering the restaurant, you are greeted with a small yet cozy seating arrangement. In Feng Shui terms, 'the money goes in and gets spread through out the room' because when you enter, the counter is the first thing you see- which is nice because this allows the Staff to see who comes in and out. The 이모( imo/auntie), staff who were working the counter, had a kind smile and offered us seating right away. There was no pressure to order since she was busy catering to other guests, and when we were ready to order- she was quick and informative to the questions we had. When the food was served, napkins, banchan, and waters were refilled accordingly. The uniquely crafted Katsu sauce that accompanied the piece of katsu had hints of pear and cinnamon, a proper and nice spin on the Japanese-based sauce. The Udon that came along with the combination was filling and nicely made, but the noodles themselves were a bit underdone, kind of a flourier taste to the finished product. Regardless, the entirety of the combination created a satisfying experience, leaving me still hungry for more! **** Overall : 4/5 I've only ever had the more original katsu variations here, so I can't speak on their special takes on katsu(pizza katsu, sweet potato katsu). I've also never had the Hamburg steak here as well- which gives me all the more reason to come back to this restaurant to try even more!
