Nerves of steel, hands of might.. the chicken had no chance
    David W.

Driving down Vermont street, there are feelings of nostalgia that start to bubble up within me. There are memories from the first decade of my life, filled with youthful curiosity and innocence. Then there are the following decades of my relationship with K-town that are filled with cock-eyed naivete and black-out fun. In the heyday of K-town (the 90's - early 2000's) people loved this town and its somewhat sovereign existence in the center of a horizontal metropolis. The best part of it was that only those who knew, knew about this paradise, filled with good times, pure or hedonistic. Ask those who came through and they'll all have different pieces to the question, "What's your favorite part about Koreatown?" Some will say the karaoke bars & girls, some will talk about the clubs, booking or otherwise and some will talk about the best part of the night. The beginning & end of the night. That's when you go to the "Sool Jib," loosely translated to the 'drinking house.' You start the night here with a pre-party of drinks and tapas and then you end the night here with the night cap and munchies. There were and are many great ones in K-town, including OB Bear and Prince but you'd be surprised to find out that there is one in Buena Park that is better than most if not all of the ones in K-town. I know, it sounds crazy and maybe it is. But Cafe Gunul is pound for pound the best Sool Jib in Southern California, if you're judging based on food, service and ambiance, as long as your type of ambiance is chill. But what do I know? To be honest, not much. So again, it is up to you to go and find out for yourself. Stay strong and independent minded my friends....

There was no recent pic of the menu so I did you all a favor~ As of Nov 2025, this is the menu items and their prices! Enjoy! Their food is so bomb! Every single one of them!

Light on top of table so nasty look at the dust
    Eunice K.

This place they need to clean the bathroom and the table with the light that's on top of the table because it's so nasty too much dust. I lost my appetite after I saw this. I bet you all this dust Go inside the food and people just eat it don't realize it . I will never come back here unless they clean it all up really good...

Sea snail salad with noodles Green apple soda soju pitcher

My partner went here a handful of years ago and has been telling me about the green apple soda since... we have been looking for it for almost a year and FINALLY accidentally stumbled upon jt! And after having tried it I would say definitely worth the journey! Green apple soda is delicious, green apple soda soju pitcher is even more fun... We also had the sea snails with noodles, huge portion and absolutely amazing (pictured) Tried the disco chicken as well, I would also recommend this! (I also love this frog... ) Service was timely, staff is friendly, ambiance is clean and dark and private.

Great place for drinks and Korean pub food! We come here often for a casual girls night or date night. Their garlic chicken wings are chef's kiss amazing and they make the best teokbokki in town. Pair it with an ice cold beer and you're all set! Service is ok and they have buttons at each table to call the server when needed.

This spot is perfect to visit, especially on a rainy day. The ambiance of this location is so relaxing and laid back. We went to try the Kimchi pasta, the So-dduk-so-dduk, and the Fish cake soup. Everything was served beautifully and in significant portions. The staff was amiable and helpful. The place is tidy and well-maintained. - Kimchi pasta is scrumptiously creamy, and the kimchi goes well with the flavor. The crispy bacon balances the overall taste of the dish. - So-dduk-so-dduk was very flavorful, and its coated sauce was highly delicious. - Fish cake soup was served super hot, which is a plus, especially on a rainy day. It's loaded with a tremendous amount of fish cake and eggs.

Sea snail salad.. Korean comfort food
    Ed K.

Ordered the kimchi pasta on this visit. It is foods you crave to eat that gives you comfort. The pasta tasted like a Mac and cheese, and then as you started to go deeper, you could see shrimp and bits of kimchi. Overall, it was good. It is hard to incorporate kimchi into dishes since kimchi can either help or hurt a dish. If you've cooked with it, made it. You get me. Korean fried chicken and sea snail salad a match made in heaven. Don't think it's bizarre foods, just a canned cook shellfish. This is made into a vinegary, spicy salad that goes really well with the chicken. The sauce comes on the side of the chicken to not ruin the crispiness and juiciness of the chicken. It is elegance by itself. Mostly asians eat here, which means only one thing. It has got to be good. I want to try the chicken gizzard and garlic which has been a lont8me favorite.

JUN GI TONG DAK!!! One of very few places who serves this in CA. Order the large, it's soooooo crispy and the inside is still juicy! They get busy, so go early if you want their chicken. I get their chicken, chicken gizzard, and fries our go to! They also have combo specials with alcohol, perfect pairing with the chicken. The servers are attentive and you have a service bell if you need to get assisted.

I ordered a spicy octopus with noodles to go. There was a very small amount of octopus and most of them were onions. The taste was ok but the portion of the octopus was such wasting money. I don't think I would order again.

    Julie Y.

I always come here for the fried chicken! They are mostly popular for their chicken and beer combo menu. The sea snail noodle salad is another favorite. It's spicy, tangy, and sweet on top of feeds a good serving for 4 people.

The restaurant is pretty huge but it gets super loud! The screens are always playing kpop groups with music playing and its always fun to watch. For food, I've tried a lot of their menu and everything is so good and shareable. The korean fried chicken is crispy, not dry, and seasoned so well! A favorite amongst the group was the beef intestine, which I've never had before and was pretty impressed by. It was super juicy and paired well with the scallions and sauce. Another favorite of the group was the corn cheese. It was like a pizza but corn cheese. My absolute tried and true is the pork belly. It is soo good, especially with the kimchi, peppers, and roasted garlic cloves. It definitely is my personal favorite on their menu! I can definitely see why this place is so popular!

They have a ridiculous policy that seems to switch from table to table. We wanted to order a pitcher of beer but since one person in our party wasn't 21 they wouldn't allow. Said policy was "everyone had to be 21". Ok perfect makes sense. BUT THEN!! a table next to us sat down and had about 6 soju bottles and SHOCKER they had kids at their table, but I thought the policy was that everyone had to be 21??? We asked about it and then they said it's because we might distribute it to our friend, yea no. They literally told us "becuase we were all around the same age they couldn't". We were not. And how do they know the parents wouldn't give alcohol to their kids? Are they just deciding when this so called "policy" takes effect? Ruined our entire night, we came just to watch the game and have a beer. Would not return.

The kimchi, kkakdugi (radish kimchi), and gat kimchi are absolutely delicious. I heard that the owner makes everything in-house, and you can really tell how much care and skill go into the food. The staff are also incredibly kind and welcoming every time I visit. Galbitang (Beef Short Rib Soup) - This is honestly the best galbitang I've had in both OC and LA. The broth is rich and flavorful, and the beef is always fresh and tender. Whenever I'm craving galbitang in the OC/LA area, this is the only place I go. Yukgaejang (Spicy Beef Soup) - The amount of ingredients they give you is amazing. I've had it both dining in and as takeout, and it's consistently delicious every single time. It's perfectly seasoned, and has just the right level of spice. As much as I love the galbitang, I think I actually enjoy the yukgaejang even more. Pork Cutlet (Donkatsu) - This place is known for its galbitang and seolleongtang, so I wasn't expecting much from the donkatsu... but why is it this good? The cabbage salad dressing that comes on the side is seriously addictive. The portion size is huge, there's no way I could finish it by myself. It has the crispy texture of Japanese katsu, while still having a great pork flavor of its own. I honestly think this could be considered one of their signature dishes. If you're looking for authentic Korean comfort food with generous portions and warm service, I highly recommend giving this place a try. I'll definitely keep coming back!

The interior is clean, newly built, and has a modern Korean hanok-style look. The servers were also friendly both times, so I didn't have any issues with the service or atmosphere. Unfortunately, the main problem for me was the food. I've eaten at the LA location before and never really thought the food tasted bad there, but at this Buena Park location, both visits gave me the impression that the food didn't taste as fresh as it should. On my most recent visit, I ordered the soondae gukbap, and the soondae had an unpleasant off smell and didn't taste very fresh. It almost tasted like it had been sitting for a while. On my first visit, I tried the regular pork gukbap, and the pork flavor was also stronger than I personally prefer. I do tend to like cleaner-tasting gukbap, but this stood out to me because I don't remember having the same issue at the LA location. After the first visit, I thought maybe it was just an off day since the restaurant was still new. But after having a similar impression on my second visit, I'm not sure if this location is consistent yet. The space is nice and the service was good, but for a gukbap restaurant, the food has to be the main reason to come back. Based on my two visits, this location was disappointing for me.

But since I moved out of LA, it's so inconvenient to get to. Enter Kyung Bok Kung -- what a find. I can get a fine dining korean bbq experience conveniently. I've been here a number of times, and this review reflects the few times I've been there. It's become the goto spot to take people from out of town who are visiting and want a Kbbq experience. Things I immediately noticed - lots of white and grey teslas in the parking lot during lunch - you know what that means? Golf Koreans. Yup. Go inside and you'll see incredibly well dressed older retired people with their buddies chatting up in private cubicles. Beautiful decor. It's like the background setting of a korean drama where there's a close-up of the guy and the girl - they're about to say something really serious to each other. The camera does a wide angle shot of them - and this is the restaurant it's shot in. Price points - this place isn't cheap, but they have incredibly good deals on a weekday lunch (cold noodles and meat set). Their dinner set course meals are priced around what you would expect from a quality steak house. This place is not as pricey as AB steak or Cote, but you're getting just as quality. Food - I've had the lunch set meals, the bbq grilled course, and ordered à la carte. One thing is for sure - they don't miss. I never had a 9 budda plate until I came here, but apparently it's like a thing that royals ate during the monarchy days. It was like a korean vegetarian taco. Very intricate (and slightly annoying) to put together but delicious - and a great test of your chopstick skills. Their braised beef (galbijjim) from their lunch set intersects savory, sweet, and tenderness in a way that only Korean grandmas do. I'm not a huge fan of Wagyu beef (just too rich and can never feel after eating it), but I have never felt that way coming out of here. Go here at night if you want to impress someone or celebrate something. Go here during lunch if you want a fantastic meal and want to see what the best korean food can taste like but don't want to break the bank.
