A friend of mine took me to Young Dong Restaurant and I was fully impressed. To start, we were a bit late and yet we were greeting by a very hospitable host. The dish of the evening was what my buddy wanted me to try. Seolleongtang with beef cheek. My friend was not kidding when he said you'll like this. Adding black pepper, bit of salt and lots of green onion, provided a flavor that was so comforting. The beef cheek was dipped in a sauce with jalapeños, a form of horseradish and soy, to complement the tender/melt in your mouth experience. The broth was excellent as well. Their sides of kimchi and kkakdugi (radish kimchi) were tasty as well. This is one place I could see myself going back again, and especially on a cold evening. It was like a warm bowl of comfort food, that I didn't know about, but definitely would crave. Enjoy, cheers!!!

I came and had their sul lung tang and it was pretty good. The broth was good and meat was soft. Everything was seasoned so well. I really liked how they gave a dipping sauce with jalapeños. Definitely added some more flavor to the dish. They have spacious seats inside. I took off one star because of the service. Our server was pretty rude and I felt like she was rushing us when no one was even there. I felt like they can really improve on their customer service.

First time having korean food and it was really good. Taste very clean and sides makes it better. I would come back again.

Came here on the Monday after New Years as most restaurants were closed for the holidays and Young Dong was still open. The waitress brought over our warm barley teas right after we sat down. It was perfect for the cold weather. Loved how the menu was short and simple and straight to the point. I was extremely excited to see that gomtang was on the menu because I don't really see restaurants that make and sell gomtang. The broth was very clean and delicious as well. Their kimchi's were very good. The seasoning was perfect and it was perfectly fermented as well. Their jjangachi (pickled veggie) sauce was mixed with some gyeoja (korean hot mustard) and it added the perfect kick to dip the meat from your soup. Definitely will come back again soon!

My second time here, and it was just as satisfying. This place is #1 on my list of places in OC for sullungtang (Korean beef bone soup). Exceptional service. Quiet spot with Korean TV on in the background. Will definitely return soon.

I like Young Dongs & I cannot lie...haha Seriously, first time here. I'm typing this right after eating, that's how much my mind is blown. I love when restaurants have small menus (looking right at you, Cheesecake Factory. SMH). You know they do what they do well. Yelp, thank you for screwing up. I searched for soon tofu, and this place doesn't serve it. I opted for the spicy brisket veggie soup. Kinda like yukaejang minus the noodles. I am a foodie, so I LOVE that they give you the option to "have it your way". I added lots of green onions, a lil coarse salt, pepper. Then midway through I cut up my kimchee & put that in. At the end I added the spicy sauce. It was like different bites each time! I love soups, period, so this place is HEAVEN!

Young Dong Restaurant (영동 설렁탕) is what we consider as the best Korean Soup (tang/guk) place we've tried way back when and still is to this day. We always come here after our long drive from Las Vegas, their soup dishes are absolute comfort food and warms the soul. Our usual server recognises us by now and she's always glad to see us back and is very attentive and accommodating with our requests. Sitting is easy for us as we usually drop in during weekdays and late in the morning after the breakfast crowd has left. We usually rotate our order choices from beef+tripe (Young Dong Special), beef cheek soup (meoli gogi seolleongtang), to mixed beef soup (섞어수육). But my all-time favorite is the ox knee soup with its generous cuts of tendon with the entire ox knee left in the wonderful broth! The broths doesn't need any additional seasoning but you can also garnish the soups with green onions, pepper flakes, sea salt and kimchi juice to your heart's content. Young Dong is a gem in Buena Park and we still haven't found an equivalent restaurant in our Vegas home town so long drives it is.

Everything was so delicious! Even my friend who doesn't eat spicy food ended up devouring the kimchi.

There was no taste, like rice for the ox soup. There is another place I was recommended to go to. I should've went there instead.

The meal starts off with lighter dishes like porridge, salad, and water kimchi to warm up your stomach. After that, a variety of starters come out including spicy beef tartare, pan-fried sliced beef, glass noodles, and a beautiful platter of nine delicacies. Everything was thoughtfully presented and flavorful. The highlight of the meal was definitely the assorted premium wagyu cuts, which are grilled to perfection over charcoal. The meat was incredibly tender, rich, and packed with flavor. Pairing it with naengmyun and soybean paste soup made the whole experience even better. What surprised me most was how many courses kept coming out throughout the meal. Even after the wagyu, they brought fried dishes, seasonal items, tricolor pancake, and dessert to finish everything off. Overall, the course felt very complete and satisfying, and the quality of the ingredients really stood out. If you're looking for a more elevated Korean BBQ experience in OC, this is definitely a spot worth checking out.

I had tried their weekday lunch special before on November 11th, 2025 and remembered it was really delicious. This time, my brother was curious about the lunch special and wanted to try it, so we decided to visit again. The weekday lunch special is $39 per person + tax + tip and includes braised short ribs (galbijjim), gujeolpan, bibimbap, and doenjang jjigae. The galbijjim was so tender and flavorful, and both the bibimbap and doenjang jjigae were also very delicious. However, the gujeolpan portion was noticeably smaller compared to our visit last November. Back then, there was enough for each person to have about two servings, but yesterday it was only enough for one small serving per person. The staff are usually very friendly, which I really appreciate, but yesterday it seemed very busy. They didn't check on our table and even when we asked for water, it took a while to arrive. However, the food is consistently good, and the staff are generally kind, so this is still one of my favorite Korean traditional (hanjeongsik) restaurants. cf 1) After the meal, they serve sujeonggwa as dessert, which I also enjoyed. cf 2) However, there was one issue. Before the food was served, one of the waiters (I'm not sure who) apparently placed My Mom's cell phone on top of the small plate used for sharing side dishes. I didn't see it myself because I had stepped out to use the restroom, but my Mom told me about it when I came back. Placing a cellphone on a plate meant for food is unsanitary and inappropriate. My Mom asked for the plate to be replaced, and it was changed very quickly.

Food: I ordered the beef gyugatsu. When you order (on the tablet) it will give you a choice if you want the full set or just the meat only. Of course I had to try the full set. It came with 2 sauces, salad, edamame, radish, rice, and a bowl of miso soup. It was delicious! Meat also came with a little grill for u to cook on and wasabi on the side. My partner ordered the curry pork cutlet. Pork cutlet was a tad bit dry, nothing crazy but the sauces that came with it made it better! It also came with miso soup, salad, radish, edamame, and a bowl of rice. Since my partner ordered the curry cutlet, ofc it came with a bowl of curry and katsu sauce on the side. Both meals were delicious! 8/10 rating for food! Ambiance: cute, clean, nice and small! You order on the tablet. They close around 830pm keep in mind! Overall I will come back to try their other food items on the menu!

We came the last hour of closing and there was still a couple of tables eating inside still. We were greeted upon arrival and we didn't need them to tell us how to order as the only thing on the table was the ordering tablet (self-explanatory). We ended up ordering the premium gyu katsu set along with the curry pork cutlet set that comes with rice and sides along with some beer. The drinks and food came out fairly quick and were steaming hot. I like that the curry came on the side so the pork cutlet wouldn't get soggy and you could pour over as much as you want over the cutlets. The veggie sides were a nice touch and complemented the meal well. The gyu katsu didn't taste like Japan to us, but it was still good especially with the wasabi and sweet soy sauce that came with it. If I came back here, I would give the beef tongue a try along with the creamy udon because those also seemed like a favorite for customers. Service here was friendly and we were checked up on multiple times without having to flag someone down.
