I've walked by Jang Mo Jip so many times and haven't gone in because the lack of english in the store was just a little intimidating. However, my friend and I chose to stop by one chilly day, and the seollongtang really hit the spot. My friend's number 1 order had only beef slices why my number 2 had lots of tripe. So yummy. I love that they let you season the soup with salt and green onions, and choose whether you want clear noodles or wheat noodles in the soup. Price wise, this place is super reasonable, and I'll probably be back before long. read more

I can tell Jang Mo Jip has been feeding the community for decades. Interior is typical of a homey Korean restaurant with a small menu. I came with my wife since she had fond memories of coming here. Service was great, the waitresses made sure to keep our banchan full. As for the stews, they were average to me but it does the job. Nothing spectacular but also nothing wrong. Lemme put these stars into context: this is legit, old school, homemade taste Korean food before the frills and sugar and excessive spices came in because everyone became obsessed with kpop and kdramas and Korean food started transforming to suit other palates. This is the closest thing you can get in this area to a legit traditional Korean hangover soup spot from old school Seoul. That means some things might be a little plainer and require you to know how to stir in the right amount of salt / spices / green onion from the table. Everyone in this area talks about Han Yang being "better" - Han Yang's cool and all and probably where you'd go to take your non-Korean friends for Korean food, when they need that Americanized burst of extra salt and sugar. And that's what THAT place is for - THIS place is not for that. It's for when you are sick or feeling down and need soup and you want it clean and hot and simple, and when half your fam wants seollungtang and the other half wants yukgaejang and you're all too tired to cook it yourself. The service is probably not amazing. That's how you know you're in a legit old school spot. Could they do better with the service? Sure. Will they ever read these reviews and switch up their game? Don't count on it. Know what you're going in for and get that gukbab or seollungtang and be glad there are still establishments making this for when ya feelin under the weather. It is a go-to place for anyone craving a boiling hot Korean beef soup. This place has been in the business over 20 years. We had enjoyed almost all in their menu. My personal favorite is the dumpling soup; very huge homemade ones. But they are known for Sul lung Tang. Beef broth is very rich with thinly sliced briskets. Jang Mo Jib (장모집), which translates to "the house of the mother-in-law," has consistently exceeded my expectations. Their Kimchi and 깍두기 (radish kimchi) are consistently fresh and delicious. In Korea, there's a saying that the quality of Kimchi determines the overall quality of the food, and I've always enjoyed the consistently delicious taste of Kimchi prepared by Jang Mo Jib. On this visit, I opted for the ox knee and tendon soup (도가니탕) for health reasons, while my sister ordered the chicken noodle soup (닭칼국수) along with a dumpling plate (만두 접시). This classic flavor is the epitome of Seolleongtang ( or sul lung tang, however you want to spell it). It obviously is not 100% like the OG original in Garden Grove but it so similar you could easily mistake it for the original. I always regret ordering it at any other restaurant. I've been going to this place for over ten years. They are consistently great and it's one of the best beef bone soups around this area (not counting ktown of course). If you're new to this place, try their Seolleongtang (ox bone soup). The soup comes unseasoned so you can add the salt and spring onions to your taste. I love this because I don't like to see too salty. The chicken ginseng soup is great when you're feeling like you're under the weather or hungover. And the Bosam platter is SO good but you definitely need a few people to share with. I read some reviews that this is not great for English speakers. Some friends, my husband, and I visited Jang Mo Jip on Sun, 4/10 at around 7:00 PM. The restaurant seemed like a store straight out of Korea lol. Nothing frilly. The updated menus were primarily in Korean, but they had one photo that was translated into English so I was able to base my food choice on that (coming from someone who doesn't read or speak KR lol). The worker(s) also primarily speak Korean with very limited English as well but fortunately, one of our friends is Korean so she helped us all order! Jang Mo Jip is known for their sul rung tang - sliced beef, in boiled ox bone marrow soup, served with scallions, rice and kimchi so we decided to order 4 of those. The bone broth was rich and of course, not salty (you are supposed to add your own salt). I actually added some of the kimchi juices (lol don't come at me people) and it was overall so delicious. The banchan is mainly radish and kimchi and it was unlimited. I've always appreciated a banchan refill hehe. I enjoy radish kimchi and it wasn't too sour and had just enough flavor. Menu - Prices increased from the previous menu (prob due to inflation). New prices range from $14(+) -$30, which I feel are still reasonable given the quality of the item. Parking - Plenty of parking available in the lot! Not sure if it was because we came later on a Sunday, but we had no trouble at all. All in all, I'd come back. Don't come to dine, just order take out! This place used to have exceptional service but i don't know what happened. Came in to eat with my mom for dinner. I get that they get busy but why did it take 30min for my mom's 콩국수 to come out even after the multiple times we waved down the servers. All that the server lady said was, "it takes a long time to make the noodle dish". Mind you, I finished my beef soup even before my mom received her noodles. Do try them. The skin was so chewy and delicious. CONS: - Could be a bit of a wait during peak hours or during colder weather. - No menus in English. So non-Korean speakers beware. Just pull up yelp and point to what you want. FINAL THOUGHTS: - This place was great, but for non english speakers, it could be a bit challenging to communicate with the workers there or navigate the menu. Had Summer special menu - cold bean noodle and yeolmu bibimbap. Noodle was good and the yeolmu bibibap was excellent. I would come again and again for them. Kimchi we're great as they should be for a restaurant known for beef soups. One disappointment was the mandu. It was not very flavorful. I will skip the mandu next time. read more
