Absolutely loved this place! Everything we ordered was seriously SO good. We got the mul-naengmyeon and bibim-naengmyeon with galbi combos, the spicy octopus dolsot, and the gopchang dolsot -- and honestly, every single dish was amazing. The naengmyeon with galbi was such a perfect combination, and both dolsot dishes were packed with flavor. And DO NOT skip the haemul pajeon (seafood pancake)! Crispy on the outside, loaded with seafood, and easily one of the highlights of the meal. We're already talking about coming back with a bigger group next time so we can order even more dishes and grill some meat at the table. We ordered the combo for 3, which was a little over $100, so I was expecting some solid Korean BBQ. Unfortunately, the meat was a huge disappointment. The side dishes were good, but once they started grilling the meat, there was basically no char or that smoky KBBQ flavor you expect. The meat tasted more boiled/steamed than grilled. For a meal at this price point, that was really disappointing. We also added the noodles for $11.99, and those were actually delicious and probably the highlight of the meal. I don't mind paying more for quality KBBQ, but I do mind paying more than $100 for meat that tastes boiled. Unfortunately, I don't think I'll be stepping foot in this establishment again. read more

Went there last week and had a terrible experience. I've been to plenty of kbbq places where they cook the meat for you and I haven't ever had a problem with how the meat is cooked. When I came here, the server put the brisket and pork belly on the grill before it was hot and it ended up steaming the meat until it was cooked through. No char or searing on it. When my boyfriend tried to turn the grill back on to get a little more color, the server (Sarah) smacked his hand away from the grill igniter. When we tried explaining we wanted to let it char a little more another server came rushing over and the two rolled their eyes, made faces, and laughed to each other as if we were being ridiculous. They both came back twice to make sure the grill was turned off I don't think what we were asking for was that crazy. If I wanted steamed meat, I would've gone to hotpot but the way they handled everything is what made me upset. The naengmyeon was really good but honestly I will not be back. Mo Ran Gak is the restaurant equivalent of a relationship I refuse to quit: the wait tests me, the bill humbles me, and yet I keep crawling back... usually after working a weekend open house (realtor life), hungry enough to make financially questionable decisions. Their naengmyeon (cold noodles) is hands-down one of my favorites. The noodles have exactly the right chew...springy, satisfying, and never doing rubber-band cosplay. They arrive perfectly arranged in a beautifully balanced, icy-cold broth with Asian pear, thinly sliced radish, cucumber, and egg. Now for the most important public-service announcement in this review: eat the cold noodles with the galbi. It's one of those genius combos Korean people discovered works well. Morangak gives you a complimentary sample bowl so you can taste the spicy noodles or vice versa. The Kalbi /Cold Noodle combo is great! But I splurge and order the saeng galbi (the unmarinated short rib) because its just superior quality. Is it pricey? Yes... is it worth it? YES! The portion usually becomes two meals for me, which means this is technically meal prepping and therefore a responsible financial decision. I'm a frequent customer and often grab seng-galbi to-go after my weekend open houses. The lines can be completely unhinged, so visit during off-hours unless "waiting indefinitely while smelling grilled meat" is one of your favorite hobbies. Come for the excellent Korean BBQ. Mo Ran Gak does have usually a long wait, but personally, think it's really worth it if you're in the mood for neng myun in particular. I've been here about 4-5 times now and think that the restaurant has been super consistent. First off, note that this restaurant at least on weekends will usually have a wait ranging anywhere between 30 minutes to over an hour. You aren't able to make a reservation online or via phone. Instead, you'll have to sign up for the Yelp Wait List in-person. There's a Paris Baguette and a supermarket nearby (as well as a few other restaurants) to chill for a bit. The waiting area does have a couple small umbrellas but nowhere to really sit. You'll get a text once your table is ready. Parking is also a bit tight since this is a very crowded strip mall with a lot of shops. Once you're in though, they are like a well oiled machine here. Tables are cleaned and set usually once you enter. Ordering can also happen pretty quickly if you know what you want. If it's your first time here, the menu can look a little intimidating. We usually only order one of three items - the mul neng myun (the more soup-y cold noodles); the bi bim neng myun (the spicy cold noodles); or the galbi combo that comes with either of these items. When we order at this location in particular, we usually are able to get a regular sized neng myun and a smaller one with one order, great for those that want to try different ones out. I'm personally a bi bim neng myun fan and think this one is wonderful. It includes some skate fish and is saucy. I don't think it's overly spicy (although your mileage may vary) and is just so flavorful. I usually am not the biggest mul neng myun fan but think the one here is also strong and flavorful. Love the amount and includes the sides of mustard/vinegar as well. The banchan here is also strong. Love that it comes with seafood pajeon (the seafood Korean pancake) and that is easily shareable amongst the group. And the combo galbi as a heads-up is cooked in the kitchen, not at the table. They do have a lot of meat options as well in addition to ordering extra pajeon. We recently also tried the mackerel here too which wasn't bad but definitely not the highlight And they have both hot tea and cold tea available as well. And think the pricing is strong here as well. All-in-all, would highly recommend Mo Ran Gak! Just come early/be prepared for the wait. read more

We went this past Sunday to celebrate a friends birthday. Placed our names on the waitlist around 4:40pm and got seated at 5pm. We ordered the Large Wagyu Combo with a small cold noodles. They don't seat you unless your entire group is at the restaurant, regardless if you are at the front of the line. If your entire group is not here, the wait can be another hour wait. Our group of seven was waiting for one person. They seated us because we told them she was in the parking lot, and she was. The restaurant was packed. It's not that large a restaurant either. We ordered Combination C. They delivered the side dishes first, along with canned sodas. Staff remain at your table, cooking your meat selection for you on the grill. Delicious, tender, high quality meat. After all the meat is cooked, we each received a noodle dish. I ordered the cold noodles. So good. Haven't eaten that in decades. Each visit, once we ordered, our servers did EVERYTHING, so if you're new to this type of dining. Just bring your appetite, great company if you can, or just enjoy their amazing feast all your own. Located in a shopping center with ample parking, whether by the market or by Paris Baguette, it's convenient. Expect a wait as they're usually busy anytime I've been here for dinner with a group of 6 of us. The wait most times for us have been no more than 15 min. Took a friend here on Monday for his birthday lunch. Put my name on waitlist at 10:50AM, way before they opened at 11AM, but already saw 11 parties ahead of us. So I waited. Then I kept seeing Korean folks who came after me and just walked in and got seated, so I went inside to ask the host and he simply just directed me to a table (I was probably still party #8 or 9 on waitlist). It was my first time here to celebrate two friends' bdays for dinner. I arrived early to put my name on the waitlist at 4:45pm on a Saturday. It was busy, but not too crazy. We were 12th in the queue and got seated before 5:30pm. We were a party of 4 and ordered the beef combo for 3 with an order of thin-sliced beef tongue. I have to say their banchan spread was very good and generous. They even had this marinated beef thing, pancake, konjac salad, fresh kimchi, and all the other usual ones that were very tasty. The tofu soup that came with the combo was amazing as the tofu had a lot of flavor IN THE TOFU. Normally, you can tell it's an afterthought soup where they would throw in piece of tofu in there, which doesn't have any flavor. The beef combo was super tasty. All cuts of the beef were high quality, tasty, and tender. We had one cut that was the marinated boneless short rib and that was surprisingly good. The marinade wasn't too sweet. The servers cooked our meats, and they didn't rush us through every cut like some places. We wanted to enjoy so we politely asked them if we can slow down, which they did. The venue was clean, servers were awesome and the food is TASTY. It's definitely better than my usual Baekjeong. I like BJ because it's a pretty standard KBBQ place and loved it when it was Kang Ho Dong Baekjeong. However, with its expansion and greater accessibility, the quality is decent. MRQ is definitely a few notches above BJ, and I will now hit this place up if I'm not in a rush. Also, they serve a lot of other dishes (cold noodles, bulgogi, etc.), which I thought was pretty awesome, but we stuck with BBQ because they are known for it.
