I've been to a few other Gen locations, and this one was fine (or mid, as folks younger than me would say!). Our waiter told us when we started ordering, that for a party of six, we could not order two plates of the same thing without manager approval, but then somehow he was able to do this without it being an issue. This restaurant is kind of dark inside, and when our friend who hadn't been to the table yet was trying to find us from the bathroom location, it was hard for her to find us. I don't know if they need more lighting or what. They really do need more ventilation over the burners. That's probably my major complaint on this location, since the smoke seemed to just blow right into our faces throughout the meal. Also the table was cluttered with a bunch of display bottles of products they sell. We moved them but it was a bit of an effort. The food was really good, though not always consistent. Some of the cuts like the short ribs were a bit fatty. Also we ordered carne asada twice, and the first batch was well-marinated and tasty, and the second batch was not.

Our server was the absolute best!!! The ambiance was super chill and laid back. Love the variety of protein choices and the sides.

We had not been here in many years, but decided to come here before going to the movies at the AMC. The prices have gone up from last time in the menu has significantly changed. We came here during a time that was too late for being lunch and too early for being dinner so we had no issues being seated on a weekend. The ambience remains the same with very modern dark and neon colors inside. Our server was super friendly and helpful, guiding us through the new menu items. They no longer place everything on the table as they used to you have to order what you actually want. They still don't have the fish cakes back, but they have other options. The portions are big, but you can ask for half portions. Our grill had an issue where it would heat up too much and it became a fire hazard. This also made it so that the grill had to be replaced more frequently which they did. Overall, we had a really good experience and my boyfriend really love the Al pastor tacos. They also have multiple rise options that they used to not have. Comparing A prices to other Korean barbecues. They are still on the lower part of the range and I think it's a good value for what you get. We will most likely be back when we go back to the movies.

This place is consistent with all the locations I've been too. Really good marinated meats. I got like 8 orders of marinated steak. service was good and everyone enjoyed the food.

Tucked away with an inviting warmth, Gen offers an experience that feels less like dining out and more like being welcomed into a well-run, thoughtful home. From the moment you arrive, the staff sets the tone with genuine hospitality--guiding guests through the menu with care, clarity, and an impressive attention to detail. What stands out most is their attentiveness to individual preferences. Dietary restrictions, allergies, and personal tastes are not treated as afterthoughts, but as essential elements of the experience. The team demonstrates a clear commitment to tailoring each dish, ensuring that every guest enjoys a meal suited precisely to them. The space itself is impeccably maintained, creating a comfortable and relaxed environment ideal for lingering over good conversation and even better food. For those seeking a dining experience that combines cleanliness, customization, and heartfelt service, Gen is well worth the visit--your palate will thank you. Cheers The Dutchman

Before it got too hot

I came here for dinner today, and it was a very disappointing experience. There was no sign posted, and none of the staff informed us that the air conditioning wasn't working before we were seated. The restaurant felt like it was around 90°F inside. It was extremely hot, smoky, and the air felt greasy from the kitchen, making it very uncomfortable to eat. Unfortunately, we weren't able to enjoy our dinner because of the conditions. I understand that equipment can fail, but customers should be informed before being seated so they can decide whether they want to stay.

The Long Rib Bone was SO WORTH IT! Next time having earlier because cooking time. Our server warned us, but we had other meats ordered.

My friends and I will always hit up GEN in Fullerton, because it rarely ever lets us down and our visit with our server - Meorar, was one of the best dinners that we ever had! From the beginning, she hyped up our party mood and even made ordering such a breeze. Her fun and easy-going personality really added to our experience with the Premium Menu, suggesting we try the skirt steak and long rib bone. We only got Shirley Temples but when she offered the different options for soju, I was sad that I had to resist. Definitely planning on visiting and hoping to sit in her section again! 10/10 would recommend to family and friends!

This was the best Gen BBQ house I've ever been to. Our server Aldo was A+++ amazing server. The air conditioner was great. Food was brought in fast and I had a great time. Will definitely return to this place in the future.

Lychee soju cocktail- fantastic!

I finally used a gift card I got for Christmas. This place usually has a huge line outside, which is why I avoid it. My husband and I stopped in at 3pm last Friday and there was no line. The service was quick. The prices are reasonable for all you can eat. I especially loved the fried fish appetizer, the bulgogi beef, and the brisket. I enjoyed the potato salad, but my husband was not a fan. The salad was good, but not necessary. Id rather enjoy everything else haha. What stole the show was the lychee soju cocktail! So good! My husband and I shared a pitcher and were blown alway with how tasty it was. We will be back again during mellow hours.

Third or fourth time here at this particular location might go to location is Alhambra. I do like this location though just for a different scenery for dinner on a Saturday night around 8 o'clock there was no wait time, which was great and surprising. Service was good. Food was delicious as always not much to say because I love gen kbbq it's always satisfying

Josh H.

I've been coming here for YEARS This place a couple years ago was headed downwards and was becoming below average; however, with all of the changes, for the price this is honestly one of the best kbbq places you can get. The meats are very good, they give a good quantity and staff are very attentive. I've had $150/person kbbq places and this still beats it, I would highly recommend to come if you have not been within the past year.

How much is the 2 meat meal and the 4meat meal? Does the 4 meat meal feed two people?

Good Morning Russell, Hope this message finds you well.…

On Fridays do they only have dinner available ? Or is lunch price also available

All day is dinner price.

If you arrive there after 3pm, you will pay dinner price.

Is there fountain drinks?

Just Coca Cola products (boo 👎🏽)

Do they allow outside food for small kids that are not eating kbbq?

Someone had said that there is no outside food allowed unfortunately

Is it still $30.00 for dinner time on weekdays?

no its a39

How do I join the waiting list?

There is no waiting list

Do you offer gift cards?

Yes

Do they allow Solo Diners?

Yes

No outside food

Can I make reservations?

No, you can use the Yelp app and check in but all your party must be present.

Do you have check in by yelp?

Yes you can check in

Did they get rid of the online check in option?

Food: We ordered the Galbi-Tang and Sul-Long-Tang, and our food came out pretty quickly. Both soups were really flavorful and comforting, and the broth was definitely the most memorable part of the meal. The banchan on the side was a little weaker compared to some other Korean spots I've been to, but the soups more than made up for it. Parking: They have their own parking lot, which made parking easy when we visited. I really enjoyed the food here and would definitely come back, especially when I'm craving a comforting bowl of soup.

You come here for Korean comfort food, metal dishes of banchan, enormous bowls of soup and stone pots hot enough to continue cooking your dinner while you eat it. And that stone pot is where I'd start. The gondre dolsot bibimbap was fantastic. Gondre is Korean thistle and here it gets worked through the rice with the egg, seaweed and everything else until the whole thing becomes earthy, savory and deeply satisfying. But the best part comes underneath. Leave it alone long enough and the rice against the stone develops that beautiful scorched crust, nurungji, which you eventually scrape loose and mix back through everything. That combination of the greens, sesame, egg and crispy rice is ridiculously good. There are dishes you finish because you're hungry and dishes where you keep digging around the bottom of the bowl because you're convinced there must be another good piece hiding somewhere. This was the latter. The galbitang was more complicated for me. The beef itself was excellent. Generous pieces, tender, falling easily from the bone and soft enough that our kids loved it. Plenty of green onion, too. My issue was the broth. I prefer galbitang on the restrained side so I can decide where it goes from there. Same reason I like seolleongtang arriving almost defiantly plain, give me the broth and let me dress it up myself with salt, saeujeot or whatever else I want. Han Yang has already made those decisions for you. The galbitang broth was noticeably sweet and salty and eventually it became a little much for me. That's preference as much as criticism, plenty of people will probably love it exactly as it arrives. I just wanted the volume turned down. The banchan was similarly mixed but mostly good. The napa kimchi was solid and nicely balanced. The kkakdugi was particularly good. The mustard greens, however, were ferociously sour. I like fermented food. These had me physically wincing. The dipping sauce for the galbi was excellent, though and I kept going back to it. Rice was average and a little dry. It did its job. Service was good and the whole experience was easy. The room itself has some age on it, tables are fairly close together and depending on where you're seated you may find yourself with a commanding view of the bathroom door. Nobody has ever requested the chef's table at the restroom, but here we are. Somehow I don't particularly mind any of it. Han Yang feels like a restaurant that knows what it is. It isn't polished into anonymity. People are here eating giant bowls of soup, mixing rice in scorching stone pots and getting on with their lives. And when a restaurant can put something as good as that gondre bibimbap in front of me, I can forgive a dry bowl of rice and a bathroom with excellent sightlines. Absolutely coming back. And next time, I'm getting that bibimbap again.

The mix of flavors and textures with the lime, cashews and strawberries worked well together. I could have eaten this whole appetizer by myself. We found it odd it wasn't served with any sort of chips or bread or anything but it was really good regardless. Jjamppong pasta: had just the right amount of spice, though the bottom of the bowl was super spicy. Tomato based soup with mussels, squid and shrimp. Shared between two people. OC Galbi American: marinated short rib comes with fries, corn, coleslaw and dinner rolls. The short rib was marinated and cooked so soft and tender and just right! We opted for the American version because it came with fries and those were fried so good - crispy around the outside/edges but the middle was warm and just the right texture. The corn was prepared kinda like esquite. This entree was also shared between two people but depending on how much a person eats could easily be shared between 2-4 people. We were kinda struggling to finish it all haha There is a server assigned to your table and you can place your order with them or use the tablet on the table. The tablet includes photos for the menu items, which was helpful. Alcohol beverages have to be ordered with the server. Food comes out on a robot cart. We were seated where we could see them line up and prep to deliver food. It was kinda cool to see. The server follows them to the table to actually serve the plates. Random detail: I like that their "chopsticks" are more like thin tongs. It makes it easier for those that have difficulty with traditional chopsticks. They do also have forks if you ask.

Sometimes, simple flavors done well are all you need. Overall, the food tasted fresh and hearty, and the portions were huge. I couldn't finish my meal and had to take the rest home, but thankfully, the leftovers still tasted great. Always a plus when the food holds up well the next day.
