We dined here and ordered one of the marinated wagyu beef belly dish. Before cooking, we noticed the marinade had an unusually thick, stringy texture, which seemed off but we assumed it was just part of the sauce. This was the only meal I had that day. Within a few hours of eating, both of us became extremely ill with severe nausea, repeated vomiting, abdominal pain, and significant weakness. It was a very distressing experience and raised serious concerns about food freshness and handling. It included these premium meats 1: Ribeye 2: LaGalbi 3: Jumullok 4: FIB Finger 5: Spicy Rib Finger 6: Marinated Rib Finger I ordered Pho and the noddles came over cooked but the broth did have a wonderful flavor. The meats tasted fresh and well preserved. We also tried the Spicy Baby Octopus, these are delicious, beautiful texture and as fresh as you can get from a restaurant thats not seated next to the ocean. I have visited this location twice since it opened. We chose it for it's Yelp reviews even though it was still fairly new at the time. I have left so happy and full both times. The servers are attentive and friendly and stop by frequently to ask if everyone is ok. The vibe is fun, with upbeat music cool enough for all ages to enjoy. We have always ordered from the Premium menu and are never disappointed. The wagyu sushi is melt in your mouth delicious. Can't go wrong with LA Galbi and anything marinated. The sides are great. I really wanted to love this place. It was our first time trying Korean BBQ and I brought my kids because we love experiencing new cultures and trying new things together. After seeing so many TikToks of people enjoying Korean BBQ and hearing how fun the experience is, this felt like a must try. I also saw the grand opening sign and love supporting local businesses, especially new ones in the neighborhood. The restaurant itself was clean, the food came out fast, and the ambiance was nice. The kimchi was delicious and the brisket ended up being our favorite. What really upset me was how I felt during the experience. I'm a young Armenian woman with an accent and this was completely new to me. When I walked in I asked simple questions like how it worked and whether we seated ourselves because I genuinely didn't know. I had to repeat myself multiple times and the hostess chuckled while I was asking. I also asked if they had plastic utensils because I have a medical condition that requires me to use plastic for my own safety, and again I had to repeat myself several times and felt like I was being looked at strangely. Once seated, we had one very kind male waiter who was wonderful and made me feel comfortable. I wish I had gotten his name because he was the only person who was genuinely warm to us. I purchased the premium buffet package for myself and the kids because I wanted the full experience. I asked another server how everything worked and even asked things like how to prepare the meat the "best" way, if we season it beforehand, cooking tips, etc. I was excited and wanted the experience to be special for my children and me since it was our first time. Instead I got odd looks and was laughed at. I understand now that the preparation may simply be different than what I expected, but I don't think asking questions as a first time guest should make someone feel embarrassed. The worst moment was when the fire became very high while cooking. I asked if it was normal because honestly it scared me a little and I wanted to make sure it was safe around my kids. I was laughed at again and even got an eye roll. Maybe these questions sound silly to people who eat Korean BBQ regularly, but they weren't silly to me. I walked in excited, curious, and open to trying something new. I walked out embarrassed, judged, and honestly ashamed for asking questions. The food was okay overall. The wagyu ribeye was a little chewy for us, the brisket was definitely the highlight, but unfortunately the experience with the staff is why we won't be returning. We came to the restaurant for the first time they had a sign outside saying grand opening. We walked in and had a very rustic modern look. There was nobody there yet as the restaurant wasn't too busy. We ordered our food through their digital screen on the tables. They are friendly user if it's not your first time going. This was our first time and I did make two mistakes on ordering through there. I feel like they just need to walk people a little bit better through them. The food portions were large, and I suggest ordering one plate of what you desired to get an idea of how much food it is. This isn't like another Korean barbecue spot where they make small plates purposely. This place definitely gives you a bang for your buck. So that you do not over order again I highly suggest that you order one plate, and go from there. The service overall was wonderful they were very attentive even after they started to get busy. After a couple visits to 356, I'm concluding that it's nice to finally have a proper KBBQ in north OC. The quality of the meats here are good- in fact they fresh slice most of the meats including the brisket cha-dohl. Service improved greatly since the first visit and the servers promptly refilled meats and panchan. With any of the 3 AYCE choices, they include Korean soups like kimchi or egg, but I do wish they will include spicy bean paste soup (daenjang) in the future. As for the meats, the rib finger cuts (marinated and non) are my favorites followed by different large steaks like 356. The grills are slanted which is a little different also the grills are really small. There was not much room even for just two people. First time going to a Korean bbq where you get to cook your own food. It was very good! Lots of choices on 3 different menus. We chose the middle priced menu! Plenty of good meat choices, fish, chicken and pork. Veggies, and other sides. The sauces are very good. Be mindful that you eat everything you order or there is a fee. Although I think if you don like something they make an exception. We had green tea pork belly that we didn't like. It's powder tea and it dried out the meat and just burned. Other than that all the choices we tried were excellent. The spicy beef was my favorite. They automatically serve a tasty green fresh salad. The portion sizes are big and the meat cooks fast on the grills that they change out periodically. The service was good and the ambiance smells so good! You will get your clothes smokey. The only thing we think we be a great add is dessert. When did go back a second time and they were serving dippin dots but that didn't sound good. We went to their soft opening but it was clear that they still have a lot to work on. Pro: - Plenty of parking. Located in the Brea shopping plaza next to On the Hook. - Walked straight in for a Thursday night dinner at 6:15pm with no wait - Friendly service - Extensive menu. There's only one menu but it basically has everything from meats to seafood to sides, including fries, pho, corn cheese, etc. - Aesthetic modern interior, doesn't look like your typical KBBQ restaurant. Though, seats were concrete blocks that couldn't be moved so we were curious about those with shorter legs Cons: - Meats were nicely presented but quality was only decent, nothing special - No dessert options - Bathrooms were one-stall per gender - Service was slow and it seemed like they focused more on the look of the place than training their servers to be thorough in explaining the menu or be on the same page. The worker who seated us didn't even know there was a 10% off soft opening promotion that's going on until the end of the month. They forgot to discount the 10% off on our bill too. - We either kept getting meats that we didn't order and had to send back, or we would have to order the meats we wanted 2-3x before we actually got it. - Different grill tops are used for different cuts of meat. This was inconvenient and obviously not everyone is going to notice that on the menu. We didn't know this until the owner noticed and came to our table and told us we were cooking our beef belly using the wrong grill. The servers who gave us the meat did not tell us. It made sense because there were so many holes and the flames got really big. The covered grill that's used for a majority of the meats was sufficient for us to cook everything. - The rice paper was like a rock stack. It was hard and one of the workers told us to put it on the grill to soften it but it only made it crispy/harder. All in all, I'm glad a KBBQ place opened up here but we will probably not be back, at least not for a while until they work out their kinks. read more

Servers are still super kind and friendly as always, but have become much more prompt. The restaurant itself is always clean and well organized. And we've really figured out our order rotation to optimize our meal. The marinated boneless beef short rib, beef belly and brisket, marinate pork belly, and rib fingers are our favs. The salad is always fresh and delicious. And there is always plenty of rice paper, garlic/jalapeno, corn cheese, and glass noodles on the side. Don't forget to try their kimchi stew as well! The perfect way to wash the meat down. Having a kbbq in close proximity is great, but having a high quality AYCE, with prompt service (especially when you have littles) is a game changer, and 356 has changed the game for Brea! read more
