The beer pour isn't just a glass, it's larger-sized schooner. Specialty beers on tap are an extra $2. The burger doesn't come with a side, but a tasty burger and a large beer for under $11 is a great deal. The following week, I came back for the Tuesday night BBQ special. Their BBQ chicken and ribs dinners are 30% off, and come with two sides and a fresh dinner roll. I got the full slab of ribs which was only $21 after discount. They definitely do not skimp on the ribs, as the plate came with two large half slabs stacked on top of each other. The ribs were cooked well, and the BBQ sauce had a good mix of tang and sweetness. I had coleslaw and fries for my sides. The other options for sides are Beckett's beans, potato salad, macaroni salad, and pasta salad. A half slab and the fries filled me up, and I took the other half and the coleslaw home. This is also a great deal for only $21. Other special days include Wednesday $3.50 schooner night from 5pm to 7pm, Friday night $10.95 fish taco plate, and Saturday and Sunday breakfast specials from 10am to noon. They have a pool table, darts, and many TVs with various sports playing. Service was timely and friendly.

I am local to the area and I've been to the Shady Nook countless times - last night was the first time I've had an experience like the one I did. I came with a cousin from out of town and my boyfriend. I came in with an expired ID that I accidentally grabbed on my way out and they asked me to leave which is fine, understandable. I went home, which is 6 mins away, to grab my valid ID, and to go back because it was already late and we wanted a drink. We went back and one of the bartenders seemed bothered by that. Both her and the bouncer began questioning me and my ID, holding it to the light and putting it up to my face (as if I would come to the same bar if I was trying to be sneaky?) Three different people looked at my ID. Of course I was bothered, it was very unwelcoming and when the bartender began questioning what my star sign is, I handed them my expired ID, which I still had on me, to please them and show them it's really me. After the bouncer verified my ID's, they could see that I was annoyed. He said "Next time just bring your valid ID." and when I responded "I did." he rudely replied, "THE FIRST TIME." The bartender walked away at this point and said something to him and he asked us to speak outside. We walked out and he said that she didn't like my attitude so they were not going to serve us tonight. Extremely poor customer service and just completely ignorant. The lack of awareness from staff was actually baffling. In response to the owner's reply, there was no doubt around my age after verifying both my ID's. The bartender wasn't going to serve us because she was being childish. Also, I'm 28 years old and the youngest I could possibly look is about 24 or 25. Make it make sense. read more

Extremely racist. DO NOT GO HERE. Have never been to this bar before this. Not once, and this has been the worse experience I have had! Do not come here. I understand this is a dive bar, but they are extremely racist! I came here with a group of co-workers and I am the only one who didn't drink. Unfortunately, I am also the only African American who was there in our group. Yet for some reason I was told I couldn't drink because I was drunk? My coworker was 4 drinks in but I just got there and I can't drink? I'll never come back. This place is horrible! read more

Best dive bar in town. It may be the only one as of now but its still amazing. Nice pitcher deals and friendly bartenders. Crowd is a little older but everyones nice and generally a quiet, drama free place. My favorite place to go when its a lowkey night. Not much food but barsnacks and pizza, can always bring your own here or order a delivert to the bar. Also a great place to catch the games come football season. read more

They're pretty attentive at the tables and there's plenty of tables to be seated at. I would say one of the better locations around if you're looking to catch a game and have a cold one with some friends.
