We stopped in here Sunday for a late lunch. The place looks the same as last time. The service here is good but the server was stretched as he was the only one taking care of the place. The food was good. The sweet potato fry's were great. I did not like the 3% added to the check for no reason. This kind of added cost needs to be shown when you first come in not when you get the check. Prices should include any costs ASSOCATED with your purchase. Hiding it until you get your bill sucks.

I felt that the drinks were a tad pricey for happy hour, although they were good.

Update: I'm editing my review after a comment from what I assume is the manager....CORRECTION-they are located in Brea, not Downey (which is very clear on the location in Yelp. I've never been to either town so I got them confused, so so sorry.) And the drinks are not $18, they were $14 or $15, which sorry, I still think is a tad expensive for happy hour. (Just in my opinion! Sorry!) I'm also removing a star because after the reply I won't be going back and don't love being made to feel or look stupid when I wrote a pretty rave review the first time! Here is my original review: Really cute Irish pub in Downey. They have a happy hour menu, however it was still pretty pricey for drinks, at around $18 each. There is free parking in the lot and the bathrooms were cute and clean. Very cut ambiance inside giving genuine Irish pub vibes. We sat at a huge round table that accommodated our large work group, so that was nice as well. The service was really great. Our server was super friendly, attentive and just overall very nice and refilled our water often and checked on us often and we really liked him. I had the yummy lychee martini and overall the cocktails were all really good however they were very pricey even on happy hour so that was a bit surprising especially since I paid the bill for the group! We ordered guacamole and chips and it was really really good and I highly recommend. Other than the price point this was a really cute spot and I would probably go back for sure and I want to try their food because the menu had a bunch of Irish dishes that looked really, really good so I'll be going back!

Macallans Public House is located in downtown Brea at the end of Birch Street. We ate dinner nearby and decided to stop by for a few cocktails afterwards. The interior has brick walls, great light fixtures, and a warm cozy feel. We originally sat in the lounge area on the left when you enter, but some of the seats are showing a little wear. The main dining area has two seat booths and tables, but we ended up sitting at the bar since the booths were all occupied. They also have outside seating along the front of the building. They have the largest menu of whiskey and scotch I have ever seen with many brands, styles, and different years of each. If you fancy whiskey and scotch, this is the place to go. My first drink was the Banana Bread martini (brown butter bourbon, banana liqueur, lemon, allspice, cane, $15). This was an amazing and delicious drink, perfectly balanced with all flavors present. It was literally like drinking a liquefied slice of banana bread with a light spice. This cocktail is probably in my top three of all the new drinks I've tried this year. Her first drink was the Pink Lady (coconut rum, lime, peach, dragon fruit, $15). It was also balanced with a nice level of sweetness. It comes with a tajin rim, and the peach and dragon fruit give it a good, distinct flavor. She liked it so much, she ordered a second one. I should have followed her lead and got a second banana bread martini, but instead thought I'd try the Dreamsicle (vodka, lime, orange juice, coconut cream, cane, $15). It was a nice creamy coconut forward balanced drink with orange juice in the background. It was good, but it nowhere as good as my first drink. After our first round, we were still a little hungry so we ordered the chips and salsa. There was a good serving size of the chips and they were very good. The guacamole was very fresh, and the salsa verde had good flavor. I wish the serving size of both were a little larger, but no complaints. We happened to visit on a Monday night, and discovered that they have trivia on Mondays. We also do trivia at a few other places on other nights, so it was a pleasant surprise to have some entertainment with our cocktails. Every place does their trivia a little different, and we really enjoyed their format. JC was our bartender, and he was very friendly and attentive. We had several questions about the drinks and he was happy to talk about them. We will definitely return, most likely on a Monday for some more trivia.

A great spot to socialize! I came here with some friends while waiting to be off the waitlist for our dinner reservations nearby. This pub is spacious with outdoor seating, which has lights and covers at the top in case in rains! As well as several couches, booths, and bar seating inside. We got seated right away at 7pm on a weekday, and everyone was watching the game on the tv. Service was quick, too! Nachos: 5/10, pretty standard, hard guac, cheese, and salsa, but not something I would get again. Mainly got it to hold us off until dinner Green Tea + Whiskey shot: 7/10! Very good, tastes exactly like green tea and you can't tell there's alcohol in it. Seems dangerous if you keep getting it! A great try. There also seems to be a VIP speakeasy near the bathrooms! It was really cool walking there, I wasn't expecting to see such decor through the bathroom hallways. Overall, a great spot to watch sports and socialize!

Every day I cry about how much I miss Dublin, its pubs, and its people. Finally, I've found my Guinness-serving third space. Not quite the walkable pub with good city views I had hoped for, but the vibes, the food, and the people more than make up for it. I've been coming here for the last six months, and I have yet to be disappointed in the slightest. The food here is SO good. Like crazy good. Their wagyu burger is to die for. Short rib is delicious. Bread pudding makes me roll me eyes back into my skull. I've tried many of their menu items; every single one slaps. They rotate menu items too, which tells me the chefs are always hard at work experimenting with different unique dishes. The most important thing is, they pour a decent pint of Guinness. The most most important thing is, the people here are awesome. Much love to Bernie; he's awesome. They have things scheduled every day of the week. A fiddler, who thankfully knows most of the Irish classics, dating nights, magic performers, and more. There's a digital jukebox in the back of the pub that takes dollar bills. I certify this pub to be in the spirit of Ireland for all jolly scallywags.

My hot take - I think Macallans does steak better than most steak houses. The last 3 times I was here I had the fillet special and it was a perfect, I mean a perfect medium rare, great pub food as well, and no frills/ straight forward bar tending in the best sense of the word. Open mic karaoke, sometimes they just give out free shots of Baileys, just a local gem of a bar I really love this place. 5 stars

Went to Macallans for Valentine's Day. They had a fixed menu but you can also order off the regular menu. You got a class of champagne, got to select 1 of 2 small appetizers, 1 of 3 main dishes (you could add a lobster tail for an additional charge) and 1 of 3 desserts. The food was fantastic and the atmosphere was neat. Sara was sweet and helpful with all our questions. Thank you for the experience.

Love this spot. Macallan's Public House in Brea nails that sweet spot between upscale and casual. It's in a really nice little area with other restaurants and shops, so it already feels like a great night-out destination--and once you're inside, the vibe just gets better. When I went, they had a live performer singing and playing violin, mixing Irish music with some rock and country, and it was genuinely entertaining without being overwhelming. I came specifically for the Beef Wellington, and wow--worth it. Perfectly cooked, flaky pastry, tender beef, and rich, comforting flavors. It felt like a true "treat yourself" dish. We also started with the marmalade baked brie, which was fantastic--creamy, sweet-savory, and perfect with the toasted bread. They've got a full bar with a great selection of beers and whiskeys, plus a wide menu if you're in the mood for burgers or other pub classics. Service really stood out too--shoutout to Bernie for the friendly, attentive service and great recommendations. Made the whole experience feel relaxed and welcoming. Overall: great food, great drinks, fun live music, and a cozy but lively atmosphere. If you're in Brea and want something that feels a little special without being stuffy, Macallan's Public House is an easy yes.

Came here to drink after a stressful day at work. Everybody here is friendly and you can't go wrong with any of the whiskey cocktails here. The fish n chips are fire as well

This is a awesome little pub/bar area located in Brea. The fish & chips and brussels sprouts were good choices. Also the drinks here are very well made and tasty. The staff here was very nice and friendly. The food came out relatively fast. This place is a bit pricey

Macallans Public House is located in Downtown Brea and it's the #1 WHISKEY BAR IN ORANGE COUNTY, with largest selection of scotch and over 400 different whiskeys, including some of the rarest and hardest to find. With a lively Irish Pub ambience and satisfying Irish comfort foods with a contemporary spin, I can see why this place is so popular! Their Reuben Sandwich had tender corned beef, kraut, Havarti cheese, Mac sauce with marble rye bread and crispy onion rings. Classics like their Fish-n-Chips was crispy and flaky cod with crispy thick fries. Both so hearty, flavorful and delicious!! I was surprised to find out that they have a Hidden Speakeasy so of course I had to check it out! The charm and cozy atmosphere where Members and non-Members can enjoy is one of the reasons why this pub is a favorite! Their Nine Social Wine Bar is next door and it is simply gorgeous!! They have weekly events like Pub Trivia, Magic of Mike O'Brien, Whiskey Dinner Pairings, Whiskey Class and more. Make sure to make reservations. Jess had the most gracious and wonderful customer service!! Thank you to Aaron for giving me a tour of the Speakeasy and their Nine Social Wine Bar next door!

Seen this place in passing and finally decided to pull the trigger for brunch. Not too many people when we came in but the bartender and waiters definitely made this place have a nice, intimate vibe. We were quickly seated and our waiter gave us drink recommendations and told us to not pass on their Brussel sprouts so we ordered and got our food and drinks within 20 minutes. Though the viking drink was a little too flowery tasting in my opinion, their old fashioned hit the spot! The Grilled cheese was nice and melty and the short rib was super tender. Their cheeseburger also did not disappoint but the potato chips were definitely the highlight of the plate. Last but not least, their brussel sprouts, not too crispy but the sauce and the combinations of flavors with each bite was an experience I won't forget. All in all, I'm glad that we stopped by and I'd definitely like to return and check the place out during the night time and try more dishes!

My family and I decided to visit for the first time for British cuisine. It's not a far departure…read morefrom foods of other cultures around the locality, but you'll notice differences between British and American English, for example. Many of their dishes include chips, which during my visit, resembled steak fries due to their thickness. You'll also see that curry is a signature dish in the menu, which reflects how Anglo-Indian cuisine has maintained popular influence in the United Kingdom. I ordered Cutty Sark's curry with chicken, rice, and chips at medium spice. The name is derived from a British merchant vessel that operated during the late 1800s. The curry had a mix of savory and sweet flavors, which reminded me of both Japanese and Indian cuisines at the same time. I couldn't say with certainty that the curry fit into just one cuisine. Packed with some heat and bold in spice, it's a delightful and large dish if you desire a lot of flavor. Where the curry went a little off course was the addition of celery. The petiole is strongly flavored and distracts from the curry in my perhaps controversial opinion. Curry seems to better mix with potatoes and carrots. I tried some of the bacon sarnie as well. The word "sarnie" is an affectionate diminutive for "sandwich." American bacon usually comes from pork belly, which provides a flavorful yet oily crispiness. However, the British variant usually comes from the loin, which is meatier and leaner. I thought of the bacon here as similar to a savory ham. The sarnie bread is fried in fat to emphasize buttery flavor. The restaurant, filled with English decorations, has the style of a cozy and dim pub. There's a good amount of small wooden booths with cracked leather seating. Our server was really nice and made sure we got everything we needed despite the busyness of the restaurant. For example, my curry came with a chutney, and I had asked for a lid to take it home. While I forgot to take the chutney home, she went outside as she noticed that we took the back exit to look at their double-decker bus. She even offered to take a picture of us. The service deserves a lot of kudos, and we were grateful for her consideration.

The Olde Ship used to be my favorite restaurant and I would celebrate my birthday and Father's Day…read morethere every year. However, after our experience last weekend, I don't know if I'll be returning any time soon. We went to celebrate Father's Day and my birthday and we're seated quickly. While the restaurant wasn't terribly crowded, the service was awful. The blonde waitress with the British accent was very rude and yelled at my son's (15, 18, and 21) which they later said made then feel uncomfortable and unwelcome. The service was very slow and we only had one water refill, despite asking repeatedly, in almost 3 hours. They were also out of multiple items including scotch eggs, sausage rolls, steak and ale pies, and sticky coffee pudding (they only had two). We never received our scotch eggs and sausage rolls and it wasn't until I asked about them after the entrees came that I was told they had run out. And we were never told that the beef wellington, which we ordered in place of the steak and ale pies that they had run out of, was almost $20 more than the steak and ale pies. Then, the bill came and the scotch eggs and sausage rolls were still on the bill, which I failed to notice at the time, so we had to return and ask for a credit for those two items. This was the worst experience we've had at this restaurant. We've had the blonde waitress before and she can be abrupt but this time, she crossed the line into being downright rude and we all felt unwelcome as a result. And to receive the treatment and have this many issues while celebrating special family events was disappointing. I'm not sure if and when I'll be back after the poor treatment we received which is a shame because I do love their food.

Had reservations for a party of four (made via online) and was seated right away. Ambiance is dark and intimate but seating was enough to feel like you had room. Drinks were delicious and strong and service was great and quick. You are limited to eating and drinking within a certain time frame but it's not bad as the servers are on it. Drinks 10/10 and food 10/10. I'm still craving their burger, one of the best ones I have had, I can't even compare it to anywhere else. Bathrooms are located outside of the speakeasy.

Not sure if reservations are required, but this speakeasy is pretty tiny so I can't imagine it can accommodate walk ins. We had a reservation for 8pm on a Friday night. The door is very well hidden, I thought it'd be in a basement around the corner or something. The space is really small, so big groups are not advised. I had the niña fresa, a strawberries and creme type drink. Delicious! If you like sweet drinks, otherwise do not get it. I had the Saturn afterwards. Still a little sweet, but mostly sour. The server came by to say that we only had 25 min left, so we hurriedly ordered a last drink. But when he delivered it, it magically became 5 min! I chugged my drink and was ushered out the door. Overall it was pretty nice but I didn't enjoy having to rush at the very end.

The place is smaller than i thought and there only one restroom per gender. The service was great and the staff was really nice. They also have happy later in the night which awesome. The only thing was that table were messy and there are no trash cans. The tables were littered with bottles, glasses, and pizza boxes. We had to move aside pizza boxes and bottles to get a table. The staff didn't bother coming by to clear up the table at any point through the night which was really weird. The parking lot is pretty big but then again at night only the bar and liquor store are open in that shopping center.

We originally wanted to visit Shady Nook for an hour of karaoke, but we ended up just chatting, having soft drinks, and munching on complimentary popcorn! We didn't want to disturb the other customers with our singing... haha! We could have played pinball or billiards, but we just wanted to hang out together and enjoy the calm, air-conditioned environment at opening time. We didn't have a reservation. We were the first customers of the day. Diane was our friendly server/bartender. She was cheerful and made us feel welcomed. I admired her for opening up the shop, taking our orders, paying attention to each patron, serving everyone, and cleaning up after us! She's amazing! I think we should return on karaoke night... then we can blend in... haha! We also would take another photo at the Photo Booth... and get our picture via email!
