The Mango Tango Salad which has romaine tomato, onion, mangos, sesame seeds, wonton crisp, mango vinaigrette, in a tostada bowl. Very refreshing and delicious! My family and I were looking for a place to eat in Downtown Brea. We were really hungry and most places in the area were full with long waits. Although we may not have initially been heading to Macallans Public House, my husband ended up enjoying the experience, food, and service! We came in on a warm and beautiful day, so we opted to stay outside in their patio area. Macallans Public House is located in Downtown Brea. They offer a wide selection of alcoholic beverages and their food menu offers several options for various palettes. Our order consisted of - Bruschetta - Pear and Prosciutto Flatbread - Bacon and Brie Burger Everything was tasty.The bruschetta had amazing flavor and the Pear and Prosciutto flatbread was unique in all of the best ways. To be honest, the Bacon and Brie burger was also really good. I love Brie, so putting it on a burger was heavenly. The only thing that left a bad impression was my napkin; it smelled of the stench of wet dog. The whole napkin and every inch of it. I noticed immediately wiping my mouth with it! I thought I may be crazy, but my husband gave it a sniff all around and agreed. It smelled awful and made me question the cleanliness of the spot. I am surprised that I have never done a review here. They are located in the heart of downtown Brea with plenty of parking available at the parking structure. For me this is a perfect spot to have a beer while I charge my car at the supercharger. The ambience is that of a pub so a darker feel and the wooden decor. They also have outdoor seating that is pet friendly. This can be a family friendly environment, but it is mostly a pub. The sitting here works as first come first serve you sit yourself. They have a large bar area that you can sit or the tables. They offer a wide variety of bourbons and malts. I personally like that they offer Guinness on tap and it's always perfect. They have a lot of Hardy British food such as fish and chips and shepherds pie. My boyfriend has gotten to Shepherd pie in the past and it was good just a little bit different than we expected. The pastry was crispy and the sauce was creamier. The fish and chips were delicious. They tend to have different types of entertainments throughout the week. I'm not sure of what day is what but I have seen a magician going around the tables and entertaining families or just groups of friends. I know one night is karaoke night another night they have live music and I am not sure what other types of entertainment they offer. This is a very casual restaurant to come enjoy a good time. I also came here for a few of the World Cup matches and it was a lot of fun! We went for lunch. I got the Pear Kiwi salad. It had a lot of different items on it including pears, pecans, mint, goat cheese. It also had a nice kiwi vinaigrette dressing. The atmosphere is what you come for here. A real Irish pub, the food is not bad, my friend had the shepherd pie and loved it, I had the chicken pot pie which was good as well as it was deconstructed which allows you to eat it and the crust not get soggy. Came to celebrate my daughter and I birthday and happen to come on trivia night which was a load of fun!! They have a spot next door as well that is more intimate with music trivia and snacks. Unfortunately the food was bland, mashed potatoes had huge chunks of potatoes in it and it was extremely greasy. No topping as stated on the menu. I couldn't even eat it. Update: I'm editing my review after a comment from what I assume is the manager....CORRECTION-they are located in Brea, not Downey (which is very clear on the location in Yelp. I've never been to either town so I got them confused, so so sorry.) And the drinks are not $18, they were $14 or $15, which sorry, I still think is a tad expensive for happy hour. Here is my original review: Really cute Irish pub in Downey. They have a happy hour menu, however it was still pretty pricey for drinks, at around $18 each. There is free parking in the lot and the bathrooms were cute and clean. Very cut ambiance inside giving genuine Irish pub vibes. We sat at a huge round table that accommodated our large work group, so that was nice as well. The service was really great. Our server was super friendly, attentive and just overall very nice and refilled our water often and checked on us often and we really liked him. I had the yummy lychee martini and overall the cocktails were all really good however they were very pricey even on happy hour so that was a bit surprising especially since I paid the bill for the group! We ordered guacamole and chips and it was really really good and I highly recommend. Some places sit in the back of your mind for years. I first came to Macallan Public House more than a decade ago on a date and always intended to return. Life happened, years passed, and somehow I never made it back. Fast forward to today: I was driving my Tesla, jokingly asked Grok to take me somewhere for a beer, and it pointed me right back here. Walking in felt like revisiting a place that had been quietly waiting in the background of my story. The centerpiece is still the incredible bar. Shelves stacked floor to ceiling with whiskey bottles, glowing green tile behind the taps, warm lighting, and enough character that you can spend half your time simply looking around. It's the kind of room that feels both energetic and comfortable at the same time. I grabbed a seat at the bar, watched a soccer match on the TVs, and ordered an Old Fashioned. It arrived exactly the way I hoped it would: large clear ice cube, generous orange peel, balanced and smooth without trying too hard. Just a well-made classic cocktail. What stood out most was the atmosphere. These days I'm much more likely to be exploring hiking trails, photographing wildflowers, or driving mountain roads than spending time in bars. Twelve years ago, places like this were a much more regular part of my life. Coming back reminded me why I enjoyed them in the first place. Good conversation, a comfortable seat, a quality drink, and no rush to be anywhere else. The beer taps looked extensive, the whiskey selection seemed endless, and the entire place struck a balance between neighborhood pub and whiskey destination. Macallans Public House is located in downtown Brea at the end of Birch Street. We ate dinner nearby and decided to stop by for a few cocktails afterwards. The interior has brick walls, great light fixtures, and a warm cozy feel. We originally sat in the lounge area on the left when you enter, but some of the seats are showing a little wear. The main dining area has two seat booths and tables, but we ended up sitting at the bar since the booths were all occupied. They also have outside seating along the front of the building. They have the largest menu of whiskey and scotch I have ever seen with many brands, styles, and different years of each. If you fancy whiskey and scotch, this is the place to go. My first drink was the Banana Bread martini (brown butter bourbon, banana liqueur, lemon, allspice, cane, $15). This was an amazing and delicious drink, perfectly balanced with all flavors present. It was literally like drinking a liquefied slice of banana bread with a light spice. This cocktail is probably in my top three of all the new drinks I've tried this year. Her first drink was the Pink Lady (coconut rum, lime, peach, dragon fruit, $15). It was also balanced with a nice level of sweetness. It comes with a tajin rim, and the peach and dragon fruit give it a good, distinct flavor. She liked it so much, she ordered a second one. I should have followed her lead and got a second banana bread martini, but instead thought I'd try the Dreamsicle (vodka, lime, orange juice, coconut cream, cane, $15). It was a nice creamy coconut forward balanced drink with orange juice in the background. It was good, but it nowhere as good as my first drink. After our first round, we were still a little hungry so we ordered the chips and salsa. There was a good serving size of the chips and they were very good. The guacamole was very fresh, and the salsa verde had good flavor. I wish the serving size of both were a little larger, but no complaints. We happened to visit on a Monday night, and discovered that they have trivia on Mondays. We also do trivia at a few other places on other nights, so it was a pleasant surprise to have some entertainment with our cocktails. Every place does their trivia a little different, and we really enjoyed their format. JC was our bartender, and he was very friendly and attentive. We had several questions about the drinks and he was happy to talk about them. We will definitely return, most likely on a Monday for some more trivia. read more

A great spot to socialize! I came here with some friends while waiting to be off the waitlist for our dinner reservations nearby. This pub is spacious with outdoor seating, which has lights and covers at the top in case in rains! As well as several couches, booths, and bar seating inside. We got seated right away at 7pm on a weekday, and everyone was watching the game on the tv. Service was quick, too! Nachos: 5/10, pretty standard, hard guac, cheese, and salsa, but not something I would get again. Mainly got it to hold us off until dinner Green Tea + Whiskey shot: 7/10! Very good, tastes exactly like green tea and you can't tell there's alcohol in it. Seems dangerous if you keep getting it! A great try. There also seems to be a VIP speakeasy near the bathrooms! Every day I cry about how much I miss Dublin, its pubs, and its people. Finally, I've found my Guinness-serving third space. Not quite the walkable pub with good city views I had hoped for, but the vibes, the food, and the people more than make up for it. I've been coming here for the last six months, and I have yet to be disappointed in the slightest. The food here is SO good. Like crazy good. Their wagyu burger is to die for. Short rib is delicious. Bread pudding makes me roll me eyes back into my skull. I've tried many of their menu items; every single one slaps. They rotate menu items too, which tells me the chefs are always hard at work experimenting with different unique dishes. The most important thing is, they pour a decent pint of Guinness. The most most important thing is, the people here are awesome. Much love to Bernie; he's awesome. They have things scheduled every day of the week. A fiddler, who thankfully knows most of the Irish classics, dating nights, magic performers, and more. There's a digital jukebox in the back of the pub that takes dollar bills. When decided to order, she informed me the kitchen was closed. No mention when she brought me the water that the kitchen would be closing in 15 minutes. My hot take - I think Macallans does steak better than most steak houses. The last 3 times I was here I had the fillet special and it was a perfect, I mean a perfect medium rare, great pub food as well, and no frills/ straight forward bar tending in the best sense of the word. We stumbled upon Macallans due to other places being packed on a Friday night. But we were super glad that we did. The noise level can get a bit loud since they turn on all genres of music throughout the night. However, it's cozy and beautiful inside. It gives bar vibes combined with higher-scale restaurant feel. Service? Top notch! No complaints, as they were super attentive and accommodating. We ordered the Mussels and the Lobster Ravioli. Both dishes were really good. They gave you a hefty amount of mussels, which were steamed with chorizo and a garlic type of base. They also paired it with two large pieces of toasted bread. The mussels were a decent size and the chorizo was great. However, the base was a bit salty (which made sense for the pieces of bread). The lobster ravioli was good too. We particularly liked the sauce. The amount of ravioli they gave wasn't much, but for the price, I'm not complaining. They also have great selection of beers/drinks, so always keep that in mind. Parking is not too bad. The have parking garages in different parts of Downtown Brea, so you'll always find somewhere to park, although it can get pretty full during the weekends. They automatically asked for 20% for a party or 6+ even if service wasn't provided to 6 ppl. Seen this place in passing and finally decided to pull the trigger for brunch. Not too many people when we came in but the bartender and waiters definitely made this place have a nice, intimate vibe. We were quickly seated and our waiter gave us drink recommendations and told us to not pass on their Brussel sprouts so we ordered and got our food and drinks within 20 minutes. Though the viking drink was a little too flowery tasting in my opinion, their old fashioned hit the spot! The Grilled cheese was nice and melty and the short rib was super tender. Their cheeseburger also did not disappoint but the potato chips were definitely the highlight of the plate. Last but not least, their brussel sprouts, not too crispy but the sauce and the combinations of flavors with each bite was an experience I won't forget. Been here 3 times the past 2 months, during different times of the day. The drinks are pretty tasty and the food is as well, so this next part bums me out. All 3 times I've been there, whether it was 2:00 p.m. or 8:00 p.m., it STINKS of cigarette or cigar smoke in there. It doesn't matter where in the restaurant you sit, you can get wafts of it anywhere. It was only during this third visit that we realize they have a case of cigars tucked in the small hallway and there's a VIP room where I assume you can smoke inside? If you are sensitive to smoke smells, like I am, I don't recommend coming here. Before, I just assumed some random employee had a really strong scent of cigarette smoke stuck on their clothes. Unfortunately, because of the smell, I will I'll be coming back here. It's too much of a discomfort and it seems to be there all the time. read more

This is where we ate for dinner in Downtown Brea close by. Omgosh I love this place it's so fun and the inside is beautiful and the food is delicious wow. Then another friend showed up he also ordered those delicious Poutine Wedge fries. Mrs. and I had a cozy lunch here last week. We had never dined at this establishment before. As such, we did not know what to expect. We were pleasantly surprised with the flavor profile. The sandwich was delicious (A tad bit cheesy though). Onion Rings were filling. Shepherds pie was unique. I had never had this dish outside of a baked bowl. There was a hint of spice in the gravy. It's known for their variety of some amazing drinks. So many to choose from. Last night, I came here for food and drink, along with watching the Dodgers game. Here's what I ordered while watching the game. Drink: French Martini (Vodka, black raspberry, pineapple, lemon, and cane). Very refreshing drink to have after a stressful day at work. Concept of this drink is spot on. Tasty drink I'll order everytime. Food: Chicken Sandwich (topped with drummy) with fries. As soon it came to me... that's probably the biggest chicken sandwich I've ever seen, especially with that drummy on top. Even without a side, it's more than enough to eat. Tastes really good. Macallans Public House has all the browns you could possibly wish for. One of the most extensive whisky menus around! We had brunch here with friends and really enjoyed not only the atmosphere, but the service was fantastic too.
