The High Horse Saloon is a western themed restaurant and bar in downtown Fullerton. Parking in downtown Fullerton can often be a challenge. There is a small parking lot behind the restaurant which is often full. We usually park in the free multi-story parking garage just east of Harbor and Wilshire. It is a short one block walk to High Horse from there. As the name suggests, the décor is very western themed with lots of wood, cowboy hats and boots, wagon wheels, lassos, saddles, taxidermy, etc. Seating options include booths, high top tables, and at the bar. They have happy hour Monday through Friday from 3pm to 6pm with food and drink specials. We started out with the pickle fries ($12) which were excellent. The pickle slice thickness to batter ratio was perfect, and they were served with a side of ranch. My first cocktail was The Smoking Gun (bacon washed Elijah Craig bourbon, maple syrup, angostura bitters, orange bitters, $18). It is smoked tableside and was a healthy pour. The bacon and maple flavor was very light, but it was very smooth. Her first cocktail was What Would Dolly Do? (Hornitos plata tequila, Los Sundays jalapeno tequila, Del Maguey peubla mezcal, simple syrup, lime, pineapple, grapefruit, $16). It was balanced with good jalapeno flavor and pineapple below with a light smokiness. For my entrée, I had the half slab of baby back rips ribs ($28) with coleslaw and fries. The plate arrived steaming hot and I was impressed with the portion of ribs. There were seven meaty ribs that were very flavorful and the BBQ sauce was good. The fries were crisp and seasoned, and the coleslaw was good too. She had the Up The Creek spice rubbed cedar-plank salmon ($26) with asparagus and mashed potatoes. The portion of salmon was good and it was flavorful. The asparagus was cooked well, but they were over salted. She also enjoyed the potatoes. My second cocktail was the Skinny Dipper (Tito's vodka, St. Germain, aloe vera water, watermelon, lime, $15). This drink was light and refreshing, with floral notes, and watermelon and lime standing out. It also had a great looking color. Her second cocktail was Ladies Love Outlaws (rose petal infused Ketel One vodka, St. Germain, simple syrup, grapefruit, lemon, rose wine, $16). This was also light with floral notes, and had good grapefruit flavor. It was very lively at 6:30pm on a Thursday evening. We left a little after 8pm, and the place was packed as they have line dancing. There was a big crowd of at least twenty people dancing in front of the restaurant and having a great time. The service was good, and our server was very friendly. The food and drinks were great, and I think they were a pretty good value for the price. read more

We have been here a handful of times this year and have always enjoyed their food and service. Unfortunately, when we went this weekend the service was a total 180 from previous visits. We got there right when they opened and got seated at a booth. They had football running on all the tv's, except the large one above the back entrance was playing the Dodgers game. We were stoked! Within a few minutes the manager was pointing a remote up at the TV to switch to football. My husband politely went up and asked him if he could leave it on the Dodgers game. The manager just said "no." When my husband clarified if there was a way to keep it on the game, the manager again just said "no". This was a very rude way to answer someone just asking a question. He could have at least given a slight apology, or a quick explanation as to why he had to put all tvs on football, but he chose to just keep looking up at the TV and just say "no". We asked the waitress also and she said something like "we have to have all the tvs on football" or something. This was nuts considering there were a few other people in there,,and trust me, they weren't glued to one of the 5 tvs watching football. We were hoping they could just change one of the tvs by our booth. The food was great, as we love their wings and their fountain drinks. It wasn't a dealer breaker that we couldn't watch baseball, but it WAS a dealer breaker that we had such a rude interaction with the manager guy. read more

I liked coming here with my girls on the weekend, but I had an encounter with management for the first time. Management was unhelpful and rude. I had tried taking a photo booth picture with my friend and on our last photo a drunk man had fallen onto us ruining the photo completely by it picturing only a black curtain. I appreciated a security guard calling a manager over immediately, but we were not assisted properly. The manager had came over to us in a defensive manner. He approached us by asking what's going on. We explained the situation and were told he cannot do anything for us. I was wanting any form of compensation for wasting my money on a photo booth in their bar. He continued to tell us that he doesn't own this photo booth machine, so he can't do anything for us. Yet, he can have his bouncers allow a man, who is clearly blacked out, into their bar. Then proceed to let that man roam around the bar as if he didn't just fall onto us. I brought up this point to the manger and he told me I was disrespecting him. We did not receive any form compensation nor an apology. I don't care what type of setting we were in, a manager needs to have some sort of customer service skills. Very clear management did not care about our safety. read more

Stopped by with a few friends to catch up during the week. Right when we walked in, we were greeted right away and the vibe definitely matched the name -- rustic saloon feel with a live band playing, which really tied it all together. We grabbed a booth and our server, Alexander, was on point the whole night -- super helpful and checked in often without being overbearing. Big props to him for the great service. For food, I went with the wings, seasoned fries, and an IPA. The ranch wasn't my favorite, but swapping it out for another sauce did the trick. Everything else was well-balanced with solid portion sizes for appetizers. Overall, good spot for hanging out, catching some live music, and grabbing solid bar bites. I highly recommended with the buffalo sauce The potato skins were delicious when you eat them right away while hot and fresh, I would recommend. Both burgers were very very good, a well cooked and tender patty with nice and thick cheese. The French fries had a nice crunch and seasoning. I would recommend any burger here. the "manager" of this place is a joke and needs to be replaced, preferably by someone who's able to pass kindergarten and can actually see/differentiate different shapes and colors. i was drinking a monster on the walk over and i threw it away in the trashcan near the entrance when out of nowhere i heard a voice telling the bouncer that was checking id's to not let me in because i was drinking a beatbox??? i told the man that i was drinking a "mango loco" monster and i literally pulled the can out of the trash and showed it to him but he was like "no that's not yours i saw you with a beatbox." tell me, what are the chances that i name a specific flavor of a monster and just happen to pull out that exact flavor from the trash? i pointed to the label to show him the flavor that i named before i even reached in the trash to show him. idk if he was embarrassed, legally blind, genuinely schizophrenic, or just plain stupid but he refused to admit he was wrong. i tried going in through the entrance on the side of the street but apparently he warned the whole place about me and the bouncer there told me that their MANAGER said not to let me in. my jaw was on the floor when i learned HE was the manager of this place because all he was doing all night was walking back and forth between the two entrances with a pink vape in his mouth. although i was never let in after trying to explain the situation, the other employees had no attitude and were actually respectful. i never tried to argue with any of them as i understand they were just doing their job and it was the entitled "manager" who chose to go on a power trip against a 22 year old girl drinking an energy drink. read more

If you like strong cocktails, this is the place. I had the Dusk Til Dawn. My husband had the Boy Named Sue. We both got slightly tipsy after just one drink! Its worth the $15. I was meeting some friends here for a birthday party and had never been - figured the food was gonna be okay but it was actually really good! The Nashville sammie was crunchy and tender inside - could've used a smidge more heat but it was good. Also LOVED the brussel sprouts - cooked perfectly. My friends and I came to line dance on Thursday and were really looking forward to it, as we've been coming regularly for the past 6 months. We love the environment and community at High Horse and had never had an issue before. I've also brought countless friends and family members to this location to eat and dance. We saw that the age requirement for line dancing had changed, so we found a family member who was 21+ to accompany us, as instructed on the flyer. The flyer specifically states, "Guests under 21 are welcome when accompanied by an adult 21+." However, when we arrived, we were denied access because our 21-year-old family member was not considered a "legal adult guardian." The flyer does not state that a legal guardian is required. I understand that High Horse has the right to have a 21+ age requirement, but I was disappointed that the flyer did not clearly state that bringing someone 21 didn't count as a guardian. We followed the instructions that were given to us and still weren't allowed in because of an additional requirement that wasn't communicated. As someone who is over 18 but under 21, I personally feel that an 18+ requirement would be a more reasonable option for line dancing. I completely understand wanting to have age restrictions, but I hope High Horse will consider either offering an 18+ option or making the requirements on the flyers more clear and accurate so people know what to expect before arriving. Overall, I'm disappointed by the experience because we genuinely enjoy the country line dancing community here and would love to continue being a part of. read more

Second time visiting HHS and the food quality is amazing!! Friendly staffs and very clean. I feel like I'm dining in one of the restaurant in Texas. For the dishes, I've try Southwestern Chicken Salad and fish and chips before (it was very delicious). Today, I had a fish and chips again with Corn Bread Skillet which FnC was amazing and the CBS was surprisingly delicious!!! Must try!! So HHS is my go to place now!! Came in for a birthday dinner. We were in early, at approximately 4:45 PM. Although it was not crowded, it took a while to have our drink order taken. We ordered drinks and a few appetizers. When the appetizers were delivered, we did not have utensils or napkins, so we had to find our server to get some. We also informed our server we wanted to order dinner, but it took some time for our server to return to take our dinner order. We found this odd as the place was not crowded at all at this point. The brussel sprouts were OK, but the pretzel we ordered was great. Served nice and hot. We ordered a patty melt and a couple of burgers. Patty melt had good flavor as did the burgers. Super fun spot! Had a small GNO and this place was it! In middle of Downtown Fullerton with parking available almost every corner we had a blast. We enjoyed our beer in a huge Milk jug (super fun). Service here is perfect, our server knew exactly what we wanted and catered to our needs! I have been in a few times both times on a Sunday. Our waitress Lennon was wonderful. Our favorites have been the pickle fries, the onion rings and the burger. The only miss we have had is sometimes the martinis are not as dirty as I like them (I love a filthy martini - I know personal preference but I let them know) and the wings were okay. This place is a great bar. Never ordered food here but I have gone at night for only the bar aspect of the place. They have a fun ring toss. The location is big but it can get crowded at times. The bar is huge that wraps around inside. There are about 4-5 bartenders but even then it can take a while to get a drink at times but I never remember waiting too long. Worth the price, can be shared amongst 2-3 people, nice appetizer before the course, however, the actual potato skin itself was not as crispy as I had hoped. Overall, a good option if unsure of what appetizer to order. - On the Range Burger: $18 - The burger was cooked to medium like I requested, bun was soft and fluffy, bacon was crispy and flavorful and there was a great portion of onion to breading regarding the onion rings. One of the better burgers I've had at restaurants. I would have no problem ordering it again. Fries had a nice seasoning, good portion, nothing special about the fries but I enjoyed them as a side. This entree was worth the price. - Summary: I came here around 2pm on a Saturday for a late lunch after golfing in the morning, walked in, was seated within 2 minutes, there was live music however shortly after we were seated, the band stopped playing. Customer service was great, my friends and I did not have to wait long to order our drinks and food, we were often checked on to make sure we didn't need anything and they were able to give good advice on drinks they recommend. This is the old Florentine's! IYKYK! I love what high horse did with the place. So country, so cowboy, so inviting. We visited on a Thursday at 5:30pm. I made reservations through Yelp but honestly, you don't need them. There's plenty of tables open. The bar is the main attraction. It's big and beautifully made. Thanks to our waitress, she gave us the heads up about it being happy hour still. Ended up ordering from the happy hour menu which is about 6-9 bucks cheaper than the regular menu. I ordered the Nashville chicken sandwich with fries. It had a little kick and was so good! My friend ordered the outlaw burger with tater tots. She claimed it was delicious. For a starter we ordered the deviled eggs and they were some of the best I've had. There were Halloween themed drinks so we tried Beetlejuice and poison apple. SO GOOD and so fun! Such a chill spot. Came here from Mickeys. When I went to the restroom I noticed there was another place on the back. My brother and I decided to come over to check it out. Similar to Mickeys but the environment a bit different. They had music and some people were dancing. We sat at the bar and quickly got a drink. This side felt more of a party than the other side, the one downside is the restroom. The restroom closer to the high horse saloon is very small. You can still go to the other side though. read more

We came here for appetizers before dinner. I love the ambience and the vibes. Its giving yee haw. Its giving deliciousness. Server was attentive. The layout is kind of confusing. We originally walked through from the street and realized the check in for a table was in the back which was a little odd. We did not want to hover and wait for people to leave so we left and luckily went next door to the High Horse Saloon. What a great find for us! Popped in for an afternoon ball game, sat in the bar and had a sall bite along with a drink or two. They share a kitchen with the spot next door, so if you like one menu and you ask nicely, they can serve it at the other spot, even if it isn't on their menu. Lots of whiskeys with some high end American options. Western/cowboy themed, with even a couple of saddle barstools, which are both more and less comfortable than you might expect. read more
