Sure you can drink at home, drink on a plane or drink while you drive but sometimes you just want a change of scenery. However, you don't always want to feel like you're trying too hard to change your scenery, bumping you too far out of your comfort zone. The answer my friends, is the good old classic American dive bar. Now, many places like to call themselves a dive bar just because they never clean a single inch of their establishment and have seedy patrons that love to play the more than occasional 80's songs on the jukebox but don't be mistaken, a good dive bar is hard to find. Well, I happen to have found one and it's in Fullerton of all places. That's right, Fullerton, not Los Angeles, nor Hollywood nor some pop-culturally over-hyped city. What makes The Blue Door a good dive bar? First, there's earned consistency & routine. The drinks won't always be made well, or the bartender won't always be attentive but if you come a few times, you'll soon know at what time and day the drinks are made properly by knowing the schedules of the bartenders. Secondly, the drinks are stiff, the service is friendly and nobody bothers you unless you bother them. The atmosphere goes from lively and loud to quiet and solitary, again depending upon when you visit. Lastly, they're open from 6:00AM-2:00AM. They're not just there when the hipsters are around, they're there for you whenever you make the bad decision of using alcohol as an anesthetic. I was here for a softball tournament for my grand daughter and wanted to go have a drink and play a game of pool I read other reviews and it sounded like a place I might enjoy this was July 31 2026 . My sister and I walk in head to the bar and see the bartenders there making some cocktails my sister asked me what they were making so I asked the bartender politely what the drink was she was making she quietly mumbled something never even looking at me which is fine she as busy but I leaned forward slightly and said I'm sorry sweetheart I didn't hear you she ignored me completely while the other bartender gave me some side eye roll . Rude and terrible bartenders or waitresses whatever they were they were rude and I won't be going back or recommending anyone go there . Sorry to the owner I heard he is a nice person but your help no so much . Seemed like a good crowd though . read more

Stopped by late Christmas afternoon with some friends and family. What a great dive bar, the outside looks like a trashcan, the inside is reasonably clean, and the patrons and bartenders are great. They have a few fried foods on the menu, which is awesome, and a reasonable selection of drinks, would definitely come back. Also veteran owned, awesome local bar. read more

KILLER dive bar. Everything you want in a bartender and more. Served by Becky today and she was as pleasant and welcoming as a bartender could be. Decent prices, cheap but good bar snacks, pool, darts, jukebox, and fun, all found here. The 6am opening time doesn't hurt either. I'll be stopping by every time I pass through this town. read more

Very fun bar!! The tables are in great condition!! They are diamonds! Also love all the dart games. The prices are good and the drinks are definitely strong! Definitely super hot in there for how small it is, but they always keep the door open, letting it in the fresh air as well as having fans blowing which helped it so much! The bartenders are super friendly. They always go out of the away to talk to you even if it's really quickly while you ordered your drink. I will say, every single time I have been there, I seen at least one fight somewhere so keep that in mind, you might have to move out of the way but hey nothing abnormal for a dive bar with cheap drinks ! 10/10 read more

it's so cool there the pool tables are very nice the bartenders are very professional and nice and they take good care of the ppl they serve. The owner is super cool and funny and he is there a lot of times and always takes care of his customers in a friendly manner and the drink selection is amazing and gives good servings for drinks and the pretzels are very yummy. The bar is great to chill w your buds and just have a good time and it is very nice. 5 stars will come again and I recommend this to everybody because it's so amazingly amazing. read more

The blue door is the best bar in town. All of the bar tenders are amazing to say the least. The beers are always chilled to perfection and the cocktails will not let you down. Well, this is a very disappointing situation- the owner has chosen to ignore my review on Google and not even make things right. ANOTHER reason of why I WILL NOT be going back to this bar. So, here we are.....I also have went through most of the reviews, and it all makes sense now. Alright, where should I start? Thursday's (6/5/25-6/6/25)experiences needs a serious review... Let's make this very clear I would give ZERO stars. However, I would give 5stars to the bartender. She managed everything like a pro, her level of patience and tolerance for dealing with inappropriate behavior and individuals. She was incredibly kind, provided outstanding service, and even went out of her way to return the extra cash I had accidentally left behind. I ended up telling her to keep it as a gesture of appreciation for her honesty something you don't often see with many bartenders! Clear she took pleasure in her work, with care and efficiency without taking too much time. More bartenders like her are needed in bars. This was my first visit to the bar, and I can say with certainty that I won't be returning. I visited this bar for a first date, as it was a fair midway point between us, and it had received quite good reviews. There are some poor ones, but never judgment. It goes without saying that this is a NEGATIVE review, from the behavior of the so-called "frequent flyers," as others around me referred to them. The first incident that caught my attention was when a man approached the bartender, asking for the owner's #because he claimed he hadn't consumed all those drinks. I was present and had noticed the previous bartender pouring roughly the same #of drinks he was denying. The bartender said, she can't give out his # but you're welcome to look up our bar's #online and call him tomorrow. Then, a guy came along and said, Here's his number, just text him. I'm not aware of any bar in my area that freely gives out the owner's #, especially so late at night. A cause for disaster. This bar could really use a bar rescue... or perhaps the owner needs it. My date arrived, we ordered another drink, and wrapped things up. At 1:30 am, the bartender announced "last call." She then moved around the bar, serving their final drinks and closing out tabs.. We were getting ready to leave when, at 1:50 a.m., a guy approached to ask for a drink, and she said sorry I stopped serving a few minutes ago. She then announced to everyone, thanking them and It's 150. You have 8 more minutes to finish your drinks. See you all tomorrow. Certainly expressed better than many who turn bitter and consumed by rage. Everyone was wrapping things up. As we stepped outside, we could hear a man shouting at the bartender from our car. The bartender then yells, GET OUT, no drinking allowed after two. It's 2:02! She had calmly informed everyone three to four times that there would be no more drinks as it was past 1:58, yet the man kept shouting at her. He insulted her with derogatory names, at one point referring to her as the C word and the B word, belittled her, claimed she was insignificant, and hurled every offensive term imaginable at her. That's when you notice others stepping in to support her and trying to lead him out. Meanwhile, the man refuses to leave and continues shouting at the bartender. At one point, he shouts, You have no right to tell me to leave. I go whenever I choose. Wow, I was truly astonished when I heard that. He then shouts, "I'm calling James." But who is James?! At this moment, I assume he must be the owner. My date inquired and, sure enough, the so-called mystery man named James turned out to be the owner. This man would not stop yelling at the bartender, insulting her, challenging her to a one-on-one fight, and belittling her by saying she was a nobody and couldn't do anything to him. It completely shocked me! What surprised my date and me even further was hearing some regular attendees mention that these individuals always behave this way. I truly couldn't believe what was occurring. Such a tense and unfriendly atmosphere to endure. The petite and stout bartender shouldn't have to handle such altercations or deal with intoxicated individuals. However, she did handle it at her best, better than most, definitely better than I have ever handled things in my past of being behind a bar. I can already picture what it's like on a weekend night. read more

This is dive bar with a bit of better ambiance, although it was a tad dark, but that is kinda on par for a dive bar. The bartenders were birth awesome, super friendly and quick as can be. I really enjoyed myself. Melody is an angel. I will be back soon I hope. read more

It's always a pleasure to come and say 'HI' to my favorite bartender Kandis!!! She's an amazing bartender. Great service all the time! The place is clean and they have a taco guy outside too. Always great vibes and they have plenty of screen tvs to watch sports while having your drink or if you rather listen to music well they do have a juke box. Went last night for the first time to the Blue Door Bar I live blocks away from this place and I've always wanted to try it! The bartenders were nice and friendly yes, friendly, Jennifer and Bri! Lots of pool tables the dart machines were very popular. Pretty big with lots of tables. The music was very good. Nice friendly people everywhere very nice dive bar. I felt comfortable enough to go back even by myself next time. I'm hoping this can be my new watering hole being so close to home it would be nice. read more

First time here...it's a mix of old bar flies and young college kids. I have always been a fan of dive bars. A place where everyone is welcomed and comfort is a must. T-shirt, shorts and flip flops Is what I call my uniform. After serving in the US Army, I had a chance to run my own dive bar. The Blue Door is my vision of the classic dive bar. I welcome you to stop by to say Hi and grab a beer. Play some darts, shoot some pool and play your favorite music on our internet jukebox. This is a place that you can relax by yourself or with a group.

The other one, I think people call her Dee, she is always either drunk off her ass, high as fuck or both. Screws up people's drink orders and takes forever to serve you. Either of them act like they cannot handle the job on such busy nights. I remember the bartender Ellie from weekend nights before. She was so awesome. So friendly, sweet, quick, attentive, etc. Not sure why they got rid of her but she did 10 times a better job by herself than the 2 chicks there now put together. ZERO STARS!!!!! WOMEN ARE UNSAFE HERE! 2:05am In the woman's bathroom trying to relieve myself before my Uber arrives. I wasn't even able to wipe myself clean before the "barback" (who claimed to be the owner, that was only there to help his "WIFE") banged on the door multiple times and threatened to unlock the door and pull me out by my hair if I didn't get out immediately and leave the premises. I told him to back off and to allow me to finish my business and I would leave, but he continue to threaten and harass me. I came to this establishment because I thought it would be SAFE... this is the most unsafe I ever have ever felt in my 41 years. (It was also my birthday by the way, which is why I came here to celebrate.. and it was ruined by some ruthless "barback" who tried to threaten a woman 1/2 his size, and unlike him had all of her original teeth with a sorry excuse for a beard... I realize that description may feel uncalled for, but I just need to make you know who I am talking about) I will NEVER come back here again and will go out of my way to make sure no other woman I come in contact with comes to your "establishment" Very disappointed and disgusted! awwwful experience a couple of months ago i traveled to Cali to visit my parents, well before i headed back home i needed a couple of tires!! so i went to america tires to get right they told me it would take a while so i asked about the bar across the street and they told me it was open, got there ordered a few drinks watching TV when the bar tender started on a rant about who knows what started cussing and the cussing i was OK with but she started being VERY racist (witch is wrong )it really bugged me But the worst part i was waiting so long for my drink and then when i asked her (angelica ) she got frustrated with me and said in these words "IF YOUR LIL BITCH ASS WOULD SPEAK UP" smh that was a red flag for me asked for my credit card and she refused to handed it to me to make a long story short i had to threaten her with the cops before she billed me out, I ADVISE ANYONE TO NOT GO THERE!!!! Yelp led The Bar Exam right through the Blue Door and into dive bar bliss! The crowd was friendly and everyone quick with a story. James told us the history behind the place and why he is so happy to be the grease on the hinges of The Blue Door. The fact that this place has subtle nods to law enforcement and the military helps me tack on that #5 star. Additionally, the bartenders were great, and you can tell they like what they do! The bloody mary held up to the hype..so thank you Tatum! Drink pricing is appropriate for the smaller dive bar atmosphere, but nothing is lost on the quality or selection. Ice cold beer and top tier liquor drinks to go around(also, ask about their drink specials!) We played pool, threw darts, and shared drinks with several regulars...many without sleeves...my kind of people. Good for men/women/couples alike. And if they add a jar of pickled eggs behind that bar and put my name on it, we'll be back! Thanks for the party Blue Door and crew! read more

HORRIBLE SERVICE. Angelica is the worst bartender I've ever seen. She copied down our card number and charged us for drinks we did not drink as well as chasing us down once we were in the car leaving to scream racial slurs at us AS WELL AS PULLING DOWN HER PANTS AND SHOWING US HER UGLY ASS! She did all of this because she was not satisfied with her tip. Very very sad and disgusting experience Horrible staff and even worse owner. DO NOT COME HERE IF YOU HAVE ANY CHOICE ID RATHER DIE THAN COME BACK Also we will be filing a report to the police for sexual harassment and hate speech against my middle eastern friend who was attacked by the bartender. All of this is on camera so if the owner is going to say this is a lie then he should post the footage which shows I am telling the truth. read more

I can't give this less than 1... the bartender was great but this bar should be called the Blue Door BIGOT Bar... this group of people was sitting at the bar when we first arrived and the one guy went on an extremely loud political AND racial rant ... he HAILED HITLER numerous times and said that the Jews run the USA... he SHOUTED that 90% of the population here are all stupid idiots... this went on for over an hour and we chose to leave. Unbelievable AND deplorable!!!! Most of the patrons chose to ignore this display of disrespectful, offensive verbiage. I REFUSE to return and STRONGLY advise you against fraternizing here unless you are a NAZI!!! read more

Definitely one of the best dives in the area. It has a laid back atmosphere/ vibe. My friends and I really enjoyed just talking and hanging out for hours. The Kamikaze shots were great, not too pricey either (although I cant remember how much it cost because I wasn't the one paying for anything that night). The bartender was pretty friendly too. Shes a great conversationalist. I guess you'd have to be having this kind of job / being forced to talk to people you don't know hours on end, but you'd be surprised how many un-friendly bartenders there are in this basically customer service position. read more

When I first arrived they were so busy filing beer orders of all types and varieties it took about ten minutes to get my order. My go to is simple rum and coke. The amazing part was the burger I ordered took ten to fifteen minutes to make it came out hot. And the cook personally brought the food to me. They have pride in there work here and to me that's more than worth the visit. read more

Been to the Blue Door several times in the afternoon. I don't go at night because that's what I call "amutuer's hours". I have thoroughly enjoyed myself. It was SO hot and uncomfortable that we honestly couldn't even enjoy ourselves, which was really disappointing considering we came out specifically to celebrate her birthday. It was also pretty dead when we got there, but to be fair, we did go a little earlier so I can't really judge the atmosphere too much based on that. The biggest issue was definitely the temperature. When it's over 100° outside, the last thing you want is to walk into a place expecting to cool down and still feel like you're sitting in the heat. We ended up leaving and going somewhere else because none of us wanted to stay. I really wanted to like this place and maybe I'd give it another chance on a different day, but based on this experience it was definitely disappointing, especially for a birthday celebration.
