First, it took us forever to find. It's in the backend of a plaza, same one as Somi Somi. You'll hopefully see signs pointing towards a set of dark stairs that take you down to THE CELLAR. My friends and I chose to do New Year's Eve Eve dinner here and it was a blast. We made reservations and upon arriving, it was crowded as most of the seating towards the bar area and to the right of the restaurant were all taken. It wasn't until we were finishing up that we noticed that almost every table was filled. The host, to the servers and helpers were really friendly and made our experience a great one. Our server also gave us good recommendations as we ordered the bone marrow and chateaubriand as she stated and enjoyed it. The chateaubriand was cooked to our liking. The filet was juicy and flavorful along with the red wine demi-glace & béarnaise sauce really kicked the flavors up a notch. The mashed potatoes were so thick and creamy and the most perfectly seasoned carrots I've ever eaten at a restaurant. Another highlighting dish was the lobster bisque. Hands down, the best lobster bisque any of us girls have ever tried. It was creamy, rich, flavorful, lobstery without tasting like the ocean if that makes sense. We also tried the French onion soup, Caesar salad, beet salad, mushroom ravioli, Mac and cheese, and Brussel sprouts. The French onion soup was one of the better ones I've tried, but I think it's also because there was filet mignon in it. The Caesar salad was interesting as it was served with corn. Honestly I wasn't a fan of the paired flavors of the sweet and tangy Caesar. The beef salad was a better salad option. The mushroom ravioli had an amazing flavor and consistency in the filling but fell short as it was paired with an acidic tomato sauce. I would have loved it in a white sauce and maybe a little bit of truffle. Unfortunately, the Mac and cheese as well as Brussel sprouts were nothing special. We finished off the night with a salted caramel soufflé, creme brûlée and sticky toffee pudding. I was quite full and only tried the creme brûlée and it was a good way to end the night. The ambiance was cozy and romantic. It's dark chic while others might describe it as a little goth. The staff is friendly and attentive while the chef in the back knows exactly how to cook your stake perfectly! They had good drinks as well as a few non alcoholic beverages that were just as yummy. What a fun experience in the area! We came to this spot for an anniversary dinner and were pleasantly surprised. There's a good amount of parking in the designated lot. When walking into the restaurant you need to descend a flight of stairs so be wary of that. The restaurant is dark and moody but feels romantic and intimate. We got there a bit earlier than our scheduled time, but we're seated right away. This place is cool. You enter by going down a flight of stairs. Its like you're really in a wine cellar. Our server took our drink order, since we knew what we wanted to eat, we ordered food too. From each course we ordered something different so we could try different things. Course one Mary had the French onion Tartlet. I had lobster croquet. Course two Mary had squash soup, I had the salad. Course three Mary had Filet Mignon. I went with the pan seared halibut. For dessert Mary ordered apple tart, I had chocolate mousse We shared everything except the tart because I don't like apple. The food was amazing and the service too. Second visit, and The Cellar continues to deliver a consistently excellent experience. We had a 6:00pm reservation but arrived right at 5:00pm when they opened. Instead of waiting, we decided to start at the bar and learned they offer happy hour daily and yes, even on weekends! The bar itself is intimate and fills up fast, so we snagged one of the nearby cocktail tables instead. Lilly was our server during HH and she was wonderful. I ordered the Night Train- a spirit-forward cocktail that was bold, sophisticated, and perfectly on brand for this elegant, speakeasy-like space. The chocolate garnish on top was a nice touch. I also enjoyed a glass of Cab from the HH menu. My boyfriend went with a classic Manhattan, which felt like the perfect fit for the moody, old-world vibe of the bar. We hadn't eaten all day, which led to some questionable (but delicious) decisions. Watching what the couple next to us ordered off the HH menu didn't help either. We ordered the bread and the HH mac and let me tell you what a big mistake that was! This is how you ruin your appetite, people!!! Once we moved into the dining room, Caden took over as our server. He was friendly, fast, and efficient. We ordered everything at once, and he expertly coursed it out for us. What we ordered: Grilled Spanish Octopus Skewers - Delicious overall, though the octopus was just a tad dry. Still enjoyable and not a deal breaker. Came here for dinner on a weekday and under reservations, we were immediately seated. The hostess also called us to make sure we were still on the way as we were running late due to parking (there's parking at the bank) Location was a bit hard to find but it is through the garden plaza by somi somi and then down the stairs. It gave cellar and speakeasy vibes - which played into their name and I very much enjoy themed restaurants. Service was great overall, however the only thing that bothered me was that we were not given dinner menus with the initial drink menus. When I asked the waiter, they said the menus will come out after placing our drink orders. I'm not sure the reasoning for this method but it only seems to prolong the amount of time we wait for our food. Drinks: we ordered 2 mocktails, river of dreams and another seasonal drink that had apple lemon and ginger in it. I preferred the seasonal drink as it wasn't as sweet as the river one but the ginger can be a bit overwhelming (3/5) Appetizer - Bone Marrow (2/5) This was a seasonal twist that flavored it with jam making the dish much sweeter like a dessert. I prefer my bone marrow to be more savory and because of this, I was not fond of it. Soup - French Onion (5/5) I loved this! The fact that we only ordered 1 to split, the waiter had it pre served into 2 bowls and it was the perfect amount for each person. The soup was also prepared with chucks of filet mignon that combined so well with the cheese and onions. It was the perfect soup during a fall night. Entree - Classic Chateaubriand for Two (5/5) The 20oz filet mignon is intended for 2 people to share but honestly, this could have fed 3 or 4 people with how big it was. It came rolling out in a cart and then cut and plated at side table. We asked for medium rare and it was cooked to perfection. I had no issues cutting through it and every bite just melted in my mouth. Eating meats that are this delectable, are reasons why I can never give up meat. Side - Mac & Cheese (3/5) This was good, but not great. Nothing really stood out from any other mac&cheese. I would probably skip this next time as everything else will begin to fill you up. It reminds me of a speakeasy where you have to go down the stairs to end the restaurant. Once there, it has a dark and mysterious vibe. We had reservations for 5 pm and were promptly sat. Our server was an absolutely gem and she kindly took the time to explain the drink and the food menu. It was a hard choice since everything sounded so delicious but I ended up ordering the lamb chops. My lamb chops entree was hands down the best lam chops I ever had in my life. When my glass became half empty, the waiter was right there to refill it. The way that they serve the appetizers, entrees and desserts was truly unique. Parking is located in a garage, an adjacent lot, and on evenings in the bank lot. We sat at the bar as our table was being prepared. It's cozy down here... so be prepared if you are claustrophobic. Cocktails were fabulous! My Lobster Bisque was on the salty side, and it had less than a 1/3 of an ounce of actual Lobster in the center of the bowl before they poured the bisque in. The Charcuterie board was dazzling - the meats, cheeses, and crackers were delicious and beautifully presented. I didn't care for the Burrata as much... I've had better-tasting Burrata before. We all ordered the Chateaubriand, it was heavy (as to be expected), but the meat was melt-in-your-mouth divine. What an absolutely perfect destination for a celebration dinner: old-school elegance and charm; sophisticated, dimly lit, underground atmosphere; professional, comfortably attentive, and unrushed service; and delectable dishes. This was my first time having dinner at The Cellar, and it lived up to its reputation for intimate, elevated dining. I've visited before for drinks and their steak tartare, but sitting down for a full meal really showcased what this place is all about. The interior is very elegant with a cool sense of being underground, befitting of their name. First timer but not a last timer! I really enjoyed this restaurant from the story behind its design, the history of famous visitors, the mysterious vibe, and delicious food. From start to finish all of it was awesome. Was there to celebrate a bday and my order consisted of a savory onion soup, perfectly seasoned lamb chops, and a very satisfying pumpkin spice old fashioned. Not sure what to say or how to express it.......This place is frickin OUTSTANDING! The service is 200%. The food is 2000%. The drinks/wine list is on spot. The ambience is like no other. Steak Tartare was like what?!?! Absolutely FANTASTIC! Came here for anniversary. They catered to us. Super cool! The chateaubriand was melt in your mouth deliciousness. You could cut it with a spoon. Mashed potatoes and veggies were out of this world. They brought out a sorbet for our anniversary which was amazing. This place is my favorite. Food was very good however my least favorite was the seafood bouillabaisse it was underwhelming. The steak was cooked perfect and the octopus had a really nice citrus flavor. We have dined at The Cellar several times, but for this visit we just felt like a drink at the bar and an appetizer or two. I recommend using OpenTable to make a reservation. Even with an early 5pm reservation for the bar, we got the last two seats. They have a happy hour from 4pm to 6pm seven days a week with some pretty good deals on a few food items and several drinks. We ordered two bowls of lobster bisque which is normally $20 each but it is only $12 during happy hour. It was good and on par with a lobster bisque at any nice restaurant. It had several clumps of lobster, wasn't overly salty, and the cognac wasn't overly strong so no issues there. For drinks, we went off the regular cocktail menu. I had the Scorpion which is served in a tiki style mug. For a drink with both rum and brandy, it was balanced very well as brandy has a way of overpowering everything. But not with this drink and I enjoyed it. She had the seasonal Crimson & Clover which was good also. We were still a little hungry so we ordered the crab cake. It's served on a bed of tartar sauce with some greens on top. It was good but not great and I wouldn't order it again for $25. Some of my pictures look very bright but the restaurant is actually lit on the dimmer side and has a nice cozy feel. Parking in downtown Fullerton is always a challenge. There are a dozen or so parking spots right behind the restaurant and we got lucky and got one of those. Service was good and we were thanked on the way out. The Cellar is definitely on the pricey side. We usually only come here when it's a special occasion or they have something on their seasonal menu like venison which is often hard to find. 4.5 stars rounded up to 5. read more

Our whole experience was outstanding. The host was gracious and friendly. Our food was delicious and perfectly prepared steak and salmon entrees. Dessert of sticky pudding was perfection. Most important of all was the outstanding and professional service exhibited by Shannon. She was the consummate waitperson. Kind, gracious, knowledgeable, and absolutely engaging, we were very impressed with her and appreciated her entree, appetizer and dessert suggestions. Perfect evening for a birthday dinner for 6! Service was attentive, helpful and very friendly. Everyone enjoyed their cocktails with the charcuterie board and house bread. Enjoyed this place last night. First time here. Decided to try it out for my friends birthday. We had reservations at 6:30pm and I arrived at 5:30 so I could have a cocktail at the bar. The bar area is small, maybe 9 seats around the bar. I got there early so there was plenty of open seating. I asked the bartender if they had any cocktails with coconut cream and she said she could make me something. I didn't ask what was in it but it was great. I ended up chatting with the gentleman that sat next to me at the bar then my friend arrived. We ordered her a glass of wine and I ordered another random cocktail that the bartender made me. Unexpectedly, the gentleman at the bar paid for our round! Great way to start the night!! :) The hostess came and got us and took us to this private booth. The vibe and decor here is great! Our server was Heather and she was really nice. We both ordered soup. My friend had the lobster bisque and I had the French onion soup. OMG, it's SO good! It has some tender pieces of beef in it, the perfect level of saltiness with the melted cheese.....my mouth is watering! lol Then we shared the "classic Chateaubriand for two". It's 10oz of filet each with mashed potatoes and they give you plenty unlike the wooden pearl that I was at recently. It comes with a soft cooked onion and vegetables. It was perfect!! We ordered it medium and it was cooked to perfection! I probably would have added salt to mine if there was salt on the table but the two sauces gave it enough extra flavor. It's served with béarnaise sauce and a red-wine sauce. I preferred the béarnaise sauce. And we were stuffed but since we were celebrating my friends birthday, I ordered the petite chocolate soufflé with salted Carmel sauce and the sticky toffee pudding. They also brought her a birthday dessert which was a sorbet. My friend liked the soufflé and I preferred the warm sticky toffee pudding with vanilla ice cream. I highly recommend that one! It was great! It's a little pricey but I think everything is pricey nowadays! I spent $380 with tips including our drinks at the bar. (Actually $340 since the gentleman at the bar kindly paid for a round) I'm glad I got to experience it. It's decorated for Halloween right now. It's a cute place, nice and dark. Oh if I have to make one complaint, it was too hot in there. We were both uncomfortable at our booth because it was so warm. read more

100% would recommend this place. Our server Jazmine was awesome! She was very attentive and patient. It was our first time here and she gave us a thorough explanation of the items on the menu. She also never let our water go empty, she was always refilling them which I really appreciated. The mock-tail I got was very creamy, I forgot the name of it but it was very refreshing. The complementary bread was delicious with the butter. Me and my friend ordered the steak tartare. I personally didn't like it but my friend enjoyed it. I got the basil fettuccine which was really good, solid 7/10. My friend got the caesar salad. In total it was about 109$. Next time I'd definitely try some of the smaller bits and got for the drinks! read more

We came here for my bfs bday. We were lucky to be able to park right behind it so a close walk. We were sat to the right in a table for 2. The staff were very friendly and took us to our table. We brought wine (corkage $40) and the sommelier came to help open the bottle of wine since the server wanted to ensure the best experience with the wax seal on the top. Our favorite appetizer here was the steak tartare. To our surprise, the presentation has changed. It tasted good, but we preferred the previous presentation with the egg yolk on the top and thin crostinis vs served as a tapa. I felt like the bread to tartare balance wasn't as good as before because the bread is thicker. The complimentary bread basket was delicious! The onion bread was really tasty and all of them tasted fresh off the oven with their butter being very creamy. We decided to order the chateaubriand for 2 and the presentation didn't disappoint. I ordered it medium rare closer to the rare, but it came medium to medium well. I was not going to send it back so we accepted it like that. The flavour was delicious and the 2 sauces tasted good with it. It would've been better at the proper temperature. The carrots were perfectly cooked and the broccolette was very crunchy. The mashed potatoes were also good with a large portion. The server mentioned that he would get a complimentary crème brulee for his bday, but if we wanted another dessert we should let her know. The crème brulee was really good. Overall, we had another great experience here and would probably not get the shareable chateaubriand next time and try something else or the single portions. read more
