I hadn't been here in years because there's always an issue, but like a fool, I gave it another shot. Walked in on a dead weekday--bar to myself, cool bartender, ordered two well vodka sodas. The pours were weak as mentioned in another recent review, but all was good, finally, no issues ... until the check. $12 each. For well vodka! This isn't oceanfront dining. Other than a Roll Em Up Taquitos and an out of business Pizza Press across the street, there is no view. Just $12 for a 1 ounce pour of well vodka. I could get a better drink at the airport for less. Add tax and the annoying 3% card fee (just add it in already), and the tab hit $26.58. Tipped $5, walked out $31.58 poorer for two well drinks. No wonder the place was empty at 2pm. The bartender apologized for the price gouging and said at 3pm when it's happy hour their well drinks come down to $6 a drink. So if you do choose to go here, go after 3pm when they aren't bending you over. And yeah, I know Brady or Doug will clap back with some nonsense about "award-winning service" or "Michelin-worthy food" or "our highly trained mixologists." Spare me. For once just admit you're way over charging. Your empty restaurant during lunch confirms that. In the meantime, I'll be at every other restaurant in the area saving $4 to $5 a drink. read more

Casual Irish pub with some decent happy hour dishes and beer selection. Went to watch the U.S. / Canada hockey game with a few friends. Wasn't too busy, was served drinks very quickly. Started off with an old fashioned and then had their beer (I chose Guinness) + Irish whiskey deal. Also had some food - some tri-tip sliders and chips+salsa+guac. Pretty good, maybe a little pricey for it being pub food. The environment was like your normal Irish pub - but a little cleaner which is nice. Would come back! read more

We really enjoyed our meal here! We ordered the bangers and mash, shepherd's pie, and a pint of Guinness -- all of which were hearty, flavorful, and had that comforting, home-cooked feel. Our server was so kind and patient, even as we asked lots of questions about the menu. My only small critiques are that the restaurant still cooks with canola oil, and the atmosphere felt a little flat without music (just the TV playing in the background). Also, many of the main dish photos on Yelp seem to be missing, which makes it harder to preview what's offered. Overall though, the food was delicious, and we left happy and satisfied. read more

A- for main dishes, D- for dessert. Main dishes (shepherd's pie; salmon) were quite good. We should have stopped there. Banana maple bacon bread pudding sounded appealing, so it was ordered to go. At home, we found it to be very burned (no indication it was supposed to be Basque style, if that's even a thing for bread pudding) and very dry... so really just hugely overbaked. There also was no evidence of banana flavor we could detect. We wonder if the kitchen used the to-go status as a way to get rid of a mistake that couldn't be sent back. Went for the brunch and bottomless mimosas with a group of friends. The fish and chips were delicious and the batter was to my satisfaction 10/10. I split a plate with my loved one and the portion was perfect for 2 people. I also tried the pretzel with cheese and was 10/10 for me for the softness of the pretzel and fresh taste. The restaurant was clean and great to watch sports with a great view of the TVs from anywhere u sit on the restaurant. LOVE this place! I work down the street so have ended up here numerous times with various friends, and they have all loved it as well. The meatloaf (which I normally am not a fan of anywhere else) is fantastic, and they had a watermelon salad during the warmer months that I got hooked on. Great bourbon and scotch. Excellent service. I've been to Macallans many times & service has usually been really great, but last night at dinner, we did ask to be seated outside but we were seated in the far back table by the exit door/fringe curtain. That's not a problem, but my issue is that we felt the service was subpar. Almost as if the server forgot about us. Difficult to get the attention of someone when there wasn't anyone around for long periods of time. I enjoy Macallans, I wish the service would've been better- as the person I was with had never been there. read more

We used a Groupon deal to try out a new local restaurant and by surprise was not as busy as I thought. Then like 30 min later people started to come in the food was absolutely delicious and of course our champagne and orange juice that came with it was amazing. The champagne is better than the name brands so I would recommend people to try it out. It was not traditional food that I expected but was very flavorful and tasteful we will be back soon. This is a great afternoon drink type of place. Came here after brunch and it did not disappoint. Plenty of choices if you like whisky or beer. Our server was quick to attend to us and very friendly. Met up with friends for Sunday lunch at 12:00 noon. Glad we had reservations as it was packed and very noisy inside. Service was just ok. Our server had no personality but he was efficient, however never checked on us after the food was served. Food was actually good!! Not sure why people were giving negative feedback. My sister and I had the fish and chips and it was big. I asked for more malt vinegar and never got it, hence the service issue. Others in my group had the brisket grilled cheese and soup (it was just ok she said), the omelette, burger, and a salad. My boyfriend wanted Bangers and Mash but unfortunately no deviation from the brunch menu. I was able to get him 2 bangers on the side (a la carte). No substitutions on food the menu said. Brunch is good until 2:00. I really liked my fish and chips, and Stephen liked his bangers. Next time we will try to go during dinner time when the menu is more extensive. 4 stars for the food but not the service. read more

This was my third visit to Macalkans Public House in Brea, and I have to say--it won me over. On my previous visits, I gave them four stars, mainly because I felt their meat selection wasn't impressive (funny enough, I hadn't actually tried any of their steaks). Well, that changed this time. We ordered the Ribeye Steak 24oz 2 whole pounds, and wow--what a surprise. It was incredible! Generous in size (easily enough for three people), perfectly balanced, and served bone-in. I would honestly go back just to have it again--it was that good. Also, a big shoutout to our server, Jamie D, who handled our party of six with patience and great energy. She made the evening even better. Congrats to the team at McAllan's. Got the bone in Rib-eye and ordered early to give them time to prepare it. It was cooked to perfection. Thin asparagus cooked exactly the way I like it, properly. The gentlemen that waited on our take was really good and kept everyone's drinks full and was sure to remove the credit card fee when we paid cash. The service here is not very good- there are probably two servers that are really good and the others are consistently not. The food and drinks are fine, but so are all the other drinks and food in that area. The cigar smell can vary and something to take into consideration, as that cannot be for everyone. The responses from the management on the reviews also kind of reflects why the service is the way it is.. hopefully it improves, cheers! read more

I had a light fruity drink called the hollaback girl. Dont judge me, once i start a liquior i drink i dont switch it up to be cool, im too old to have an ego to mess up my night. The pub had plenty of charm with all sorts Irish decor. They also have a speakeasy-like private cigar club that you enter in thru the phone booth. Now for the drinkable items... the names of the drinks and the drink mixes are a bit eclectic for the cocktails. However, if whiskey and scotch is your thing, almost everything on their menu with those are great. We ordered some of the most commonly ordered items like the fish and chips and their short rib. The fish was flakey and hot in the center while remaining crunchy on the outside. The batter was light and was well seasoned. The fries were also well seasoned. The short rib was very tender but the mash was a little underseasoned in comparison to everything else. Will definitely return to try something else. read more

We walked in on an early Saturday morning for the Mimosa hour... You got it, we went in for drinks not food! lmfao!! We ended up ordering breakfast and a few other drinks. Everything came out pretty quick and our drinks were made very strong! The service did some what lack as we had to keep calling our sever over for more ice, drinks, etc etc. Not his fault as it was a bit busy, but it would of been nice had we not had to flag down different waiters to tend to us. The big breakfast was really good and the corn beef and hash is really real cornbeef LOL! We enjoyed ourselves and hope we can come back and try more drinks and food! The bill was extremely affordable and the was worth it all. I really like the fact that they have alcohol everywhere, even in the walls of the establishment! hahahaha... Its a great touch!! We were here around 9pm yesterday after the improv show. The hostess said there were no inside tables available so she took down our info and we got a text confirming. And then we never heard back. So I don't know what happened but the hostess really messed up especially since it didn't seem really busy. I did not leave the wrong number as we got the confirmation text that we were on the wait-list as stated above. This is absolutely a reason to give a bad review as stated above you did not look that busy. Thankfully we found Bruxie so we ate delicious regardless. read more

This is a little late as I wasn't as active on Yelp back in June. Went here for my 35th Birthday (and previously had been here for the end of the night recap of my 31st Birthday) and had a BLAST! They've grown a bit since I had last been there but same fun environment! Some locations had dress codes and the only thing I wanted for my group of friends was to be able to wear bright wigs for fun and we were all to dress just casual cute. The bar was super excited when I mentioned this and absolutely welcomed it! They easily accommodated the group number and even adjusted when we had some people last minute not be able to go. Day of, we were running late due to our LA plans running behind and we let them know and they were super flexible and still able to work with us and keep our reservation (we were thinking about 30 mins late but ended up being closer to 45-50 mins late). Once there, our waiter was AMAZING and so friendly and social. He recommended some good food and drink items. We were here for a few hours and just enjoyed the food, drinks, company and overall environment! We stopped by in the middle of the week recently looking for a new favorite semi-local spot. It was quite loud, but that's totally expected for a pub. Especially on a night with live music! There was a fairly decent jazz band playing. I appreciated that our server gave us the heads up as soon as we came in so we could chose to sit further away from the band. It's definitely got a nice look to the place, and is more of a bar than a restaurant. I can't speak to the bar/ drinks because we went with sodas and water that night..but they did keep them coming. As for the food, the spinach dip was good but our chips were kind of hard, almost stale. I'm normally all in in the chips, but I couldn't eat these. My friend enjoyed her Sheppard's Pie well enough, but mentioned the lamb was a bit forward in the flavor. She was surprised that she really loved the crispy parsnips on the top! Great addition. But overall she said it wasn't very flavorful. My other half had the fish and chips, and while he said it was tasty, it was a pretty small portion. It's under the plates on the menu like an entre but kind of seemed more like an appetizer or small plate size. My brisket grilled cheese was a star! Wonderful flavor and lots of brisket in it. The tomato soup was underwhelming. Not bad exactly, but not much flavor to it at all. Pro-tip, parking by the grocery store around the corner made it a bit easier than trying to park on in the structure on the other end of the street. read more

Well, I went two evenings in a row, so that says a lot! Friday night with a friend- we both had the fish and chips and it was delicious! We also had the pretzel sticks- perfect texture and so buttery. (We're not beer cheese fans, so no comment on that). For dessert we had the maple bacon bread pudding- amazing! The service was wonderful Bernie was so helpful in Friday and patient with all our questions! It was the first night of the fall menu. I went back with my mom Saturday evening to see the Irish Fiddler. Loved his singing and fiddling (he uses background music to enhance his performance and it's so fun to listen to). Jess served us and again the service was wonderful. We had the grilled cheese on Texas toast, tomato soup, plus onion rings (those were to die for). The bread pudding again, but with ice cream in top. The music got more fun as the night progressed, so I just had to dance my way out! I will definitely be back! read more
