The food is delicious and I love the cozy feel and detailed theme of the entire restaurant. I arrived before my friend and asked if we could be seated in the dining room. Carrie hesitated and tried to talk me into the bar area. She said the dining room is usually for large parties. That is NOT true. I've been there with just my husband many times, as well as a small group (4). ALWAYS in the dining room, not the bar. She reluctantly seated me in the dining room and there were 2 booths that had only 2 people!!j Throughout our dinner, she commented "You guys are still here?!" "You guys have been here forever!" It was NOT busy or full and not near closing time. There were no "large parties". After I left for a few minutes, my friend told me that Carrie commented AGAIN about how long we were there (we had appetizers, dinner, dessert and tea!) And said it was slow that night but if it was busy as it normally is, she "would have had to kick us out"!!!! And she "just wanted us to know that". I had a good experience at The Olde Ship (Fullerton). I ordered the Clam Chowder Bowl ($12) and Fish and Chips ($28 - One Piece of Haddock). The food is clean, fresh, and filling. I arrived at The Olde Ship (Fullerton) on Saturday (around 1:43PM). Parking is not the most convenient. The primary parking is street parking; sign says, "2 Hour Parking - 8AM to 4PM - except Sat & Sun." There's also a very small rear lot, but it's difficult to use. Staff is well-rehearsed and professional. Staff (Chris) is also helpful and hardworking. Chris politely answered all our questions. The Clam Chowder Bowl was ready within three minutes and 30 seconds. And all the food arrived in 16 minutes. Decent pace. As mentioned, I ordered the Clam Chowder Bowl ($12) and Fish and Chips ($28 - One Piece of Haddock). Personally, I enjoyed the Clam Chowder much more than the battered fish. The Clam Chowder is very creamy, generously seasoned, and filled with fresh ingredients. The clams are thick and plump; the potatoes, carrots, and celery are so soft that it melts apart in your mouth; and this hearty soup had a smooth, thick consistency. Its accompanying bread softens as it hungrily absorbs this piping hot chowder. YUM! The Fish and Chips ($28 - One Piece of Haddock) is fairly bland. The breaded fish gets mushy very quickly, and some moments tasted like mouthfuls of dough. The Haddock had a clean flavor, and I appreciated its springy thickness. Surprisingly, the chips (aka: fries) stole the show with its golden skin and generous thickness. These big fries had an attractive "CRUNCH!" as I but into them; its primary flavor is fresh potatoes. Regarding ambiance, The Olde Ship (Fullerton) is gorgeous! It's decorated lovingly, and the decor makes the guest feel charmed and comfortable. The location is also very clean and family friendly (ex: There's a stack of high chairs for kids). There's also two gender neutral restrooms. The late 80s music is also catchy. Surprisingly, there's no television screens; however, I did notice an unused projector on the ceiling. Overall, I had a good experience at The Olde Ship (Fullerton). Celebrating Christmas Eve at The Olde Ship has definitely been a family tradition for many years for us! They decorate it up so beautifully and it has the best vibrant and festive atmosphere anywhere! They have fabulous British food and the best clam chowder around daily. It's been 15 years since my one and only visit to The Olde Ship! Definitely an upgrade. Why did I go back? My husband has been wanting to try a Traditional British Breakfast, and they have one. The not so pleasant smell is still there, but after being seated a few minutes, we didn't notice it. I don't know what it is, but it's definitely not an inviting aroma. Hubby ordered what we came for, the Traditional British Breakfast, and added a side of Black Pudding. It's a large platter of food with baked beans, tomatoes, mushrooms, two fried eggs, fried bread, a banger, English bacon, and of course, his side of Black Pudding. The meal was served with a container of really tasty mustard, and our server highly recommended the "brown sauce" instead of ketchup, which is HP Sauce. I have to agree with her, the HP sauce was really good! Kind of like ketchup with worcestershire. I sampled everything on his plate and it was definitely interesting, considering I had never tried many of those items. The veggies/beans were great, and I loved the banger. English bacon sort of reminded us of thinly sliced ham, it was pretty good. The Black Pudding actually had a better flavor than I was expecting, kind of earthy with a warm spice, like allspice. Texturally though, I couldn't handle more than one bite. I didn't try the bread because he said it was just too greasy to really enjoy. I had their Fish & Chips, ordered two pieces of cod. Oh my! One piece would have been plenty, as they are HUGE. I brought the other one home. It was served piping hot, the batter was CRISPY and the fish was super flakey and delicious. The fries were fine, and you get loads of them. Their tartar sauce is really good! Our server, Rusty, was so sweet and friendly, she made us feel very welcome there. Long overdue review. Authentic and quaint British pub nestled in Fullerton. Great selection of beers and excellent food options, particularly Cutty Sark's curry. Make sure you add the naan for proper dipping and scooping up of the lingering curry sauce. The spice level options are nice to tailor to different palates. The medium was still nice and spicy (peppery not chili). We always enjoy a proper pint (plus a few more) and love the outdoor seating. We recently brought our pup with us and the waitstaff doted on him just wonderfully. Their lunch portions are perfect if you're looking to have a few extra pints and not fill up on a whole entree. I've been coming here since the late nineties. I wanted something different for Lent. Fish and Chips I have had nearly every item in the menu, over the years. I miss the Santa Ana location. I love the atmosphere and the people. My favorite server will ALWAYS be Rusty (Miss Susan. My favorite used to be the Fisherman's Platter or the Full English Breakfast with blood sausage! Delish. I can't eat as much, nowadays, so I'm fully devoted to the Bacon Sarnie. I add tomato and fried egg (by Rusty's suggestion) and it is DEVINE. I've always wanted to try this place, being that I always pass by when driving up and down Harbor, and the entire visit was... adequate. I will say, the food was really good. My issues are really the price and service. Had no idea they'd charge us a fee for splitting our plate. Had me and my guest known tho we would've just ate off of one plate. Also, the portions don't really seem to match the price point. It all seems a bit much for the amount of food we got. I have no complaints about the taste of the food itself. It's all really good. Me and my friends love coming to the olde ship! We've been here a ton especially during the holidays. It's festive, great food, great service, and always a vibe. Highly recommend! Was craving for fish & chips so we went here since we're in the neighborhood. Great place & great pub to hangout they have the bar side, the dinning side and the back outdoor yard. A neighborhood pub that one might find in Milton Keynes - not ancient, but quality. Appropriate decor, but not too kitschy. The beer is fresh and poured at the right temp and served in the right glass. They have all the good English, Scottish, and Irish beers. A deep selection of scotch at the bar. The food is great. Fresh and yummy. I will say that the Scotch eggs used to be yummier they are still good but they have been surpassed by the ones at The Olde King's Head in Santa Monica (worth a visit as well). The Olde Ship is looking every one of its 33 years that the signage celebrates. The fixtures have not been replaced or rehabbed in far too long. The finish on the tables and menus are tacky to the touch from over use and lack of care. The staff no longer cares. Multiple excuses about being sooo busy at the start of the evening when there were still multiple empty tables. Un-bussed tables, things carelessly stacked in the public view. No one came to the table for at least 15 minutes. No water was offered. When they finally arrived, the server rushed through our order. Then, they didn't return to our table to check if we needed anything until we were basically done. The food came out promptly and was hot which always a win in my book. Shrinkflation is real - the portions have definitely shrunk while the costs have risen. The good news is that everything still tastes great. The Olde Ship used to be on our regular rotation. We love the pissy bossy little blondie bartender Service today at 2:30 -4:51 pm was horrid & Carrie our server - who said she was training another server - finally gave us a little table at 3:30 and there were seriously minimal customers at the pub restaurant ! We finally got served around 4, food was great, we asked another guy for sticky toffee pudding and at 4:40 we just asked for the bill without the pudding. Carrie got a bit pissy and said "oh it's Christmas!" We love the olde ship & planned on celebrating Christmas again here with our big family but we just can't risk this type of service for 8-10 people. Too sad! This was a delightful place to have a business lunch early on a Thursday. Whatever hazy they had on tap was delicious. More importantly, all the food was excellent. The mushroom appetizer! The menu says the fish of the fish and chips dish is award-winning. It was indeed top-tier, but still not the best I've had here in the South land. When I first arrived, I was confused and turned around because I had only been to the Santa Ana location, sad to learn that location has closed, but I will say the decor and vibe is so similar. It's like you're having some type of déjà vu if you've been to the other location, but not this one. If I could give this 0 stars I would. This was the worst experience we have had here. We were told a 30 minute wait and waited over an hour. Once we were sat we waited another 30 minutes before any waiter approached the table. The food okay.
